ITunes Won't Run - Tried MANY Recommended "Fixes"

I cannot open iTunes. I get a brief hourglass cursor and then nothing (no error message either). I can see iTunes.exe in the processes list. I CAN open quicktime. I have no Norton or MacAffee products installed. I wiped and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime. I followed instructions from apple support and turned off all background programs with MSCONFIG with no result (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856) . I tried to resolve digital signing issues by reregistering the .dll's (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813442)
I CAN open iTunes if I sign in as another user, but I want to resolve this problem rather than switch to a new user.
I recently got an external hard drive and set up another iTunes library there, but have had no problems in the last few days I've been using it.
I've run several antispyware programs and scanned the drive for viruses.
Anyone have any more ideas?

ETA: It now appears that ONE problem is that when I reinstall iTunes it does not install Quicktime (even though I am TOLD both installed correctly). The reason I get this impression is that I get a message that I know is consistent with not having QT installed: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close We are sorry for the inconvenience." When I get the standalone QT installer, this message does not reappear. However, the above problem remains...

good lord. okay, we're in the realms of basic/general principles troubleshooting now.
let's check to see if this is a systemwide thing, or if it is associated with a specific XP user account. (i don't usually associate User-Account-Specific issues with error-message-free launch failures, but we've been coming up negative on all the standard causes of those issues.)
let's try an experiment.
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
does itunes launch properly from inside the new account?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I should add that this has never been Jailbroken. I keep reading that a lot of times this is the case for a jail broken phone.
I have also gone through the not very helpfull steps on apples site to fix this.. It is not a security issue since i dont have an antivirus or any 3rd party software for my computer.

  • Itunes won't run after download

itunes won't run after download. simply asks to acknowledge agreement which I did. help

You appear to be able to backup your contacts without iTunes.  Google "backup iphone contacts without itunes".
The way to avoid having to get a tech person in is to get past the idea that your problem (which you still haven't defined) is "beyond my ability to fix".  ;-)

  • ITunes won't run - invisible window where iTunes should be, but it never launches.

I'm running Windows Vista 32 (I know, I should upgrade) and over the last few weeks, I noticed that my podcast wasn't downloading new eps.   Now, iTunes won't run at all.
I've done a full scan of the PC and there are no viruses found.   I'm using Kaspersky.
I've un-installed all Apple apps and rebooted before trying to reload iTunes and it never runs.
Anyone have any idea what might be preventing iTunes from running?
I have a Windows 7 PC on the other desk, connected through the same switch and Cable Modem and iTunes is running fine on it, so it's not network / internet related, as far as I can tell.
    Thank you,

"The feature that you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to another folder containing the installation package iTunes.msi in the box below"
Let's just run through the standard procedures for that one again, just to be sure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Then use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. (Launch CleanUp, find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, and remove those entries.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?
(If any step of this procedure failed to work, explain to us as best you can what the problem was.)

  • App Builder won't install - have tried all recommended fixes but still fails

    Hi all,
I have read the similar issues others have had installing app builder and tried the suggested fixes, but am still having trouble installing.
I have downloaded the latest version of App Builder (32.4 I believe), and am running Mac OS X 10.7.5. When I try to install i get the error "Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer from the application author."
Just out of interest, I tried installing the same file on another Mac (running OS X 10.10.2) and installed without issue. So the installer file would appear to be fine.
According to the system requirements, my 10.7.5 system should support the install, so I am not sure what else to try.
    Thanks, Louise.

Ok. Please call enterprise support for assistance with this then. You can find contact information by logging into http://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/ and looking in the bottom middle of the screen.

  • ITunes won't run on Windows 7: Quicktime not found. .. But Quicktime works!

Installed latest version of iTunes 10 on a Windows 7 64-bit PC. Occasionally iTunes runs, but usually it gives the error: "Quicktime was not found. Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again".
I have done this about 3 times, making sure to uninstall everything apple (itunes, quicktime, bonjour, etc.) Once I even followed a recommendation to delete all application data and reinstall. Rebooting, etc.
    Quicktime runs absolutely fine.
I even tried repairing quicktime, installing quicktime by itself after iTunes was installed. No luck. Any ideas???

I've downloaded the iTunes installation file and tried to install or repair 3 times but keep getting a message that a required component is not installed (-45075).
Just in case the component being referenced is not part of iTunes but is rather part of one of the other related programs, it might be worth trying a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related componentry, as per the following troubleshooting document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

I have recently updated iTunes to 10.5, and now it won't run/open at all. Gives me an error and doesn't even open it at all. I'd be happy to help you if you're going to help me. :-)

  • ITunes won't run - error message

"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I have tried many suggestions - Turning off Virus protection (McAfee), Running Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and destroy, and even doing a system restore.
Upon trying to do a system restore i noticed that my computer has jumped ahead to the year 2165.
How is this possible? What would cause this?
Also, when i try to update definitions in my spyware programs, the process fails.
I need help. No viruses are detected when i run any programs.

    well done uproom_stares!
apologies for the nosy question, but what viruses did the scan pick up?
i've seen cases of W32.Pinfi/Win32.Parite.A cause people vaguely similar sorts of grief:
    W32.Pinfi
... but it's not particularly easy to diagnose (from our end of things) because the symptoms aren't tremendously consistent. (i think they might end up depending on what particular .exe files get eaten by a particular infection on a particular machine.)

  • HT201210 Itunes update failed to install and now Itunes  won't run

Itunes update failed to install and now Itunes  won't run

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • I updated to the latest iTunes, and now iTunes won't run at all

I downloaded the newest update, and now iTunes won't open at all.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and emptying my "temp" folder, but to no avail.  Any ideas?

Well, I fiddled around with things more, and now it's running.  I think what made it work was by going to All Programs, where I saw Apple Software Update.  I ran that, and it seemed to do the trick.  I hope this helps other people with the same problem.
