ITunes won't show my iPhone backup file

I was trying to upgrade my iPhone 4 (GSM) to iOS 5.0 GM, so I updated my iTunes and everything, BLAH BLAH BLAH!
All of a sudden, my backup that I made earlier didn't appear in the Devices tab in iTunes Preferences. It's still in the Mobile Sync folder, everything there, but for some reason iTunes won't recognize it, so I can't restore all of my contacts, photos and such to my iPhone. PLEASE HELP!!!!

did you ever get it resolved, i am having same issue?

  • ITunes won't show my iPhone as a connected device

Had an issue with my phone, when syncing files would appear on my phone but not actually be able to play so i deleted all the files off of my phone and started following trouble shooting steps however now iTunes won't show my device as connected however it is charging and my computer has recognized it as being plugged in. I have also tried syncing over wi-fi but it doesnt give me the option to and the 'sync now' button is greyed out. Any help would be much appreciated as i listen to music about 5 hours a day on my iPhone.

    Hi there mead266,
If I understand correctly your phone is not being seen in iTunes but otherwise your computer does detect that it is plugged in. I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following article to help you get that resolved, named:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Uninstall then Reinstall itunes--Will I lose my iphone backup files?

My "other" capacity on my iphone ballooned to 8.88GB's (a currupt file I guess).
To fix it, I sync'ed my iphone with itunes, restored it to factory setting successfully, and now there seems to be no way to restore to MY previous settings. The iphone works, but the itunes screen will not change when I click on the phone on the left to allow me to sync it or anything now.
If I uninstall/reinstall itunes will it keep all my data and allow me to get to my backup to restore the phone?
Basically, my phone is now restored to my factory settings, and my itunes is not working correctly so I can't access my backup files.
    Any suggestions?

^^^I was also getting and error about "dataclass information from sync services." A few threads about that error lead me to uninstalling all apple software on my PC and then reinstalling itunes.
It worked and now I'm in the process of restoring my phone with minimal lost data I hope!

  • My mac won't recognize my iphone backup file

    Help -
    Here goes -
1 - My Iphone crashed.  Would not reboot.  Took it to Apple store, they told me my only solution was to restore.  The phone was in a crashed state for 4 days.
2 - I restored the phone, and began process of restoring from a backup listed on ITunes.
3 - Just as the process was getting started, My phone started beeping, it was receiving messages - (Since it was crashed for three days, and just restored, all the texts and notifications which were sent during that time began arriving on my phone.) - I realized instantly that if I proceeded with the restore, I would lose all the new data and texts which had just come in, so I halted the restore process.
4 - After reading the texts, I began the restore process again, BUT THE FILE DATE I NEED IS NOT SHOWING UP IN MY ITUNES ANYMORE -
5 - I went to the back up file folder, and it is still there... HOWEVER it is NOW dated today, at the time I started the back up - and the files say they are all modified on the same day and time.
    So my questions are -
A - is there any thing I can do to figure out why ITunes is NOT reading the file any more -
B - Is there a way to manually get the files I need out of the back up and restore them to the phone.
Help me Obie Wan Kenobie.... You are my only hope-
    Thanks, Will

  • Itunes does not show previous day backup file.

    Hi,
Recently i have updated my itunes to 11.0, since than whenever I backup my iphone 4.
for eg. backup date 9th Dec.,2012 another backup date 10th Dec.,2012. On 10th Dec.,2012 i try to restore my phone back to 9th Dec.,2012 but im unable find the backup of 9th Dec.,2012. Please help!!!!

Typically there is only one backup.
Each time the device is connected and backs up, it merely updates the existing backup with what has changed.
The only time a new backup is created is when the device is restored or iOS is updated.
Basically, if the device is backed up five days in a row, there are not five backups, only one.

  • ITunes won't recognize my password to restore my iPhone backup file after upgrading to ios5

iTunes won't recognize my password to restore my iPhone backup file after upgrading to ios5.
Tried every password I've ever used and tried resetting my password.  Nothing works!
    Any advice?

Nope.  You obviously didn't read (or didn't remember) the User Guide.  I will include a link for you.  If you use the iPhone as Apple recommends (so that you do NOT experience data loss), frequent backups are advised, as are synching contacts/calendars with an appropriate cloud service or computer-based contact manager like Outlook.

  • ITunes won't load my iPhone but the colour wheel showed up

I've been syncing my iPhone 5 to my iTunes (I'm using MacBook Pro), but about a month ago after an software update in my iPhone, iTunes won't load my iPhone.
The iTunes recognised my iPhone as the symbol showed up and the colour wheel for loading showed up.
But the colour wheel showed up forever. I've waited for 2 hours and its still there, and I can't click anything in my iTunes although background music is still playing. I had to force quit my iTunes (but my iTunes works normally if there is no phone connected to it)
I've updated my mac to OS X Yosemite, latest, and my iPhone to iOS 8.1.3. I tried resetting network setting on my phone.
PS: I can sync iTunes with my iPod 2nd generation, but not my iPad (same problem).
Please help, I want to sync my phone to iTunes. iPhoto works with my phone!

  • Where do I find my iPhone backup file on my PC's hard drive?

I am trying to use a week-old back up of my PC from a portable hard drive, to restore an older backup file of my iPhone (which is done through iTunes). I want to restore the notes of my iPhone4 that I lost after upgrading to iOS 5. Unfortunately, my last available iPhone backup is the one I did after upgrading, and it does not contain these notes anymore. Does anyone know in which folder of the PC's hard drive would these iPhone backup files be located?
    Thanks.

Where iTunes backups are stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data are stored varies depending on the computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your periodic data-backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • Itunes won't regonize my iphone - running windows 8

itunes won't recognize my iphone - running windows 8

I found this under another post, it works(not stealing credit) just trying to help.  Re: Upgraded to iTunes 11.1 and now it won't recognize my iPhone Sep 18, 2013 2:15 PM (in response to davidsh_seattle) I was able to fix it!  iTunes can now see my iPhone5.    I followed these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538    And re-installed the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".    •     Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver from the shortcut menu.  •     Click "Browse my computer for driver software."  •     Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."  •     Click the Have Disk button. (If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.)  •     In the "Install from Disk" dialog, click the Browse button.  •     Use this window to navigate to the following folder:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.  •     Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).  •     Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog.  •     Click Next and finish the driver-installation steps. Open iTunes to verify that the device is recognized properly.   this worked to sync my iphone 5. not i4 or i3 phones(now ipods) In Device Manager I also noticed I had 3 apple drivers under Portable devices.  I deleted two of them. I updated the remaining driver, now I can sync my i5, i4 and i3.  You may have to View hidden devices.  Open device manager view-show hidden devices portable devices apple iphone "highlight" right click, update device if you have multiple apple iphone under portable devices, delete all but one.

  • How to us iPhone backup file from Time Machine drive to restore iPhone

Stupidly, I deleted my primary account on my iPhone that contained my contacts and calendar. I don't currently subscribe to MobileMe. I took advantage of the free service when I bought my phone, but decided not to subscribe as I synch my iPhone to my computer and back up my computer using a hard drive connected with Time Machine. Unfortunately, when I stopped using MobileMe, a synch to my iTunes wiped out all my contact data in my Address Book on my computer and my calendar. Therefore, all my most current information was on my iPhone.
I went to the Apple store and was told that the iTunes backup file may be used to restore the contacts and calendar information on my iPhone. I synched my iPhone to iTunes and then did the iPhone restore to factory settings. Only then did I realize that the older, correct backup file was not an available option in the dropdown.
So, I'm trying to figure out how to pull an older iPhone backup file and then use it to restore the iPhone. The only thing is that when I go to Time Machine and look at an older Library --> Application Support --> Mobile Sync --> Backup folder, there's a whole bunch of .mdbackup files in there.
How do I select what I need? How do I get the iTunes protocol to run the restore on my iPhone using those files?

Select the folder that contains the .mdbackup files and use Get Info for the folder to check the date the backup was updated. I would forget about trying to extract individual .mdbackup files and transfer the entire folder to the same location on your computer's hard drive - with iTunes quit before doing so.
After doing so, this backup should be available to select when restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup.
If this is successful restoring contact info and calendar events on your iPhone, if the Address Book and iCal on your Mac is empty - it does not contain any data, before syncing your iPhone direct with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book, and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
Does Time Machine include a backup of your Address Book and iCal on your Mac? If so, it will be much easier and faster to restore the Address Book and iCal on your Mac from your Time Machine backup.

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Josh

  • Where can i find my iphone backup files?

where can I find the Iphone backup files?

The following claims the ability to extract Notes from a backup made using iTunes. I haven't used it so can't comment on how well it works. Once extracted the Notes would be readable on your computer but you would still need to get them back to the new phone. http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/ibackupextractor/

  • ITunes asking for password to unlock backup file?

I am upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. I backed up my phone (via iTunes 10.5) and downloaded and installed iOS 5. I am now going through the setup process and it is at the "Restore from iTunes Backup" step. I connect to iTunes and iTunes is prompting me for a password to "unlock your iPhone backup file." No I did not encrypt the iPhone backup, nor is it or was it checked in iTunes. I have tried my iTunes password, my 4 digit unlock code for the iPhone, and several other passwords. When I did the backup an hour ago I was not asked for a password. I am at a loss as to what it is.

Well I finally got through with the correct password. For some reason it was the original iTunes password I had setup when I first got the iPhone 4 and iTunes 17 months ago. I had changed that password soon after creating it and have since changed it several times. Somehow it popped into my head and after trying hundreds (no I'm not kidding) of passwords, success!
It is important to point out:
When I have performed previous upgrades to the iOS I have never been prompted for a password when restoring the data.
I have never checked the box in iTunes to encrypt the iPhone backup.
I still have no idea what made iTunes go back to an ancient password.
Good luck to all if you have to go through this because this has not been a fun few days.
Let me add a suggestion that I have come up with for storing passwords where you can access them from anywhere. Setup a Yahoo or Hotmail account with all fake information (Name, address, b-day, etc.) with a “handle/name/email address” that has nothing to do with you but you can recall. In other words, you are setting up an anonymous email account. In this email account, create an email to the same account and put your passwords in it but do not include the accounts/websites they are for. You could include hints (that only you could recognize/decipher) that would tell you which accounts/websites went with which passwords.
This will just be a list of passwords so at least you have a master list somewhere and not stored on your computer(s)/drive(s). Just an idea I wanted to share.
