ITunes won't show shared libraries nor will it show iPhone as a device

This is baffling me and I would welcome some assistance. ITunes doesn't show any Shared Libraries/Devices
1. iTunes will not show 2 shared libraries that can be seen by another computer (PC) running iTunes on the same home network
2. Using my iPhone I cannot get the Remote app to work; iTunes doesn't seem to recognise my iPhone, although they are both on the same network (verified)
3. When running 'Bonjour Browser' I can't locate "cciphonethings.tcp" as per the 'Things' support site for iPhone/iMac sync
4. iTunes will sync OK with my iPhone when I place the iPhone in it's cradle
I've followed the advice in Apple support and also followed the checks suggested by the Things support site. I've also reinstalled iTunes. No change.

Thought so. It seems like PowerBooks from about that era (550, 667) are the most likely to have this problem. I've never seen any definitive explanation, though. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's a combination of hardware and software and how iTunes interacts with the CD drive.
One thing you could do is send a bug report to Apple via their online form.

Over the past few years I haven't done much ripping of CDs or using purchased tunes on this particular machine, so iTunes, while largely unused until now, has been updated as the system has been updated and as updates are announced by Apple. I suddenly discovered that I cannot play a music CD in iTunes (version 6.0.4) nor can I rip a music CD with iTunes. Oddly, I have no trouble at all playing music discs (MP3 format) that I have burned from the library on my main Mac desktop. The laptop also has no trouble in playing commercial DVDs, both movie and data. I have gone so far as to restore the preferences file and do a clean install of the system with a followup update of all the applications. Still no change. To be more precise, when I load the music CD, it opens iTunes and when iTunes has searched the database for the data, it displays in a new window. Then, when I try to play or rip the disc, the application freezes (spinning beach ball) and I must use force quit to get out of the program. Ideas?

ITunes 9.1.0.79 No longer shows shared libraries.

Hi all. If you install this version and you no longer see any shared libraries on the network anymore, then do the following.
1. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs
2. Uninstall Bonjour (this seems to be the problem with sharing)
3. Then, if you can get hold of it, install the previous version of Bonjour (the one that came with iTunes 9.0.3)
4. Restart iTunes and your shared libraries should now be showing.
Good luck, this is the only solution I have at this stage.

Hi, just follow the steps above, it should bring it back. Alternatively, after installing this version and rebooting your PC sometime solves this problem.

The latest version of iTunes on a 3-month old Mac Mini (8 gig RAM, OS 10.10.2) does not see any of the shared iTunes libraries on a MacBookPro (MBP) (OS 10.9.5) and a 14-month old Mac Mini (OS 10.9.5). And a network shared drive/media server does not appear as well. I have a Gigabite Ethernet G4 and on it, the MPB and the "old" mini I can see the various shared music libraries and NAS, but not on the new Mini.
The little house with a music note inside it that I see on the upper left corner of the iTunes 12.1 window on my MBP does not appear on iTunes 12.1 on the new Mac Mini. I have gone through all the iTunes preferences and can not find where I can turn on this feature. The new Mac Mini is on the local network and I can reach the internet successfully.
I have been using iTunes since its beginning (still have a PowerTower Pro with a working copy of SoundJam), so I am not a newbie, but this has me baffled.

May I add, that I gave full rights to the user at the Mac Mini to access and change data on the server drive for ITunes Media.

Am I the only fool who clicked on update all when my iPad told me updates were available? Two updates loaded just fine, but the other four never updated and now lie useless and grayed out. I am running Iphoto 09 on Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8 snow leopard recent imported photos in my album cannot be edited nor will they show on slideshow while others in the same album do. if I open the picture from slide show I get a screen displaying a white ! and the show displays a black screen until the next picture moves up. Older imported pictures in other albums play fine in slideshow and can be edited. Is there some hidden settings I need to change to allow me to edit these particular photos and use them in my slideshow?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

This is a determining factor as to whether I will buy an Apple TV.
So far the movie selection is around 150 only with no TV shows available. Having said that the HD playback is flawless!

We're all just fellow users here and as such have no information as to where Apple's negotiations with the HK movie and TV show owners might stand. It's totally up to those owners, and even in the US, the content owners have been reluctant. We'll all just have to wait and see.

Deauthorizing won't delete anything, and all your purchased content is safe. You will just have to reauthorize any of the other computers that get deauthorized along with your computers old machine id.
To get your purchased content back on that computer, just use iTunes to redownload it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US). Of course, music you ripped from CD or got from another source you'll need to copy those files back over.

I am not sure if you really understand the issue at hand. Possibly that you are just scanning, not reading the whole text, or simply that you just want to close a thread with your last words or derail it for whatever strange reason. ITunes not showing shared libraries?

Since coming to my school, I'm not able to share my shared library with the other kids on my floor, and I can't see theirs. I have music sharing enabled (I haven't changed any of the settings since I left home, where I have had no problems sharing and viewing shared libraries there or anywhere else up to this point). Even when I turn my firewall off, it doesn't work. Every now and then I will try to quit iTunes and it will say 1 user is connected to my account, but only rarely and I can never see anyone else's libraries, although when I use my roommates' laptops, both Mac and Windows, I can see that there are plenty of people sharing their libraries.
What other steps can I try? I was able to check out other peoples' playlists when I was here a few years ago and I miss discovering new music/meeting my neighbors (in a way)!

I have a Mac, my husband has a PC. We both use iTunes. We have shared music just fine for years. A few months ago, my iTunes started to act oddly. The shared libraries vanished, and I cannot play to external (or multiple) speakers.
My husband can see my library, but when it is selected, it comes up blank, and then vanishes in a few minutes.
We both have our libraries set to share, we are on the same network and share files, etc, without issues. What can I do?

To anyone who is having problems with Home Sharing an iTunes Library from a Windows PC,
turn off syncing over Wifi for any devices (iPod, iPad, iPhone) that sync with that Library.
I beleive this is causing interference with "Home Sharing" functionality.
FYI,
I also deleted iTunes Configuration files, but am not certain that is a necessary step
