Itunes Won't Start..at all.

I've been through many of the bigger posts here looking for a solution ot my problem but sadly haven't found one.
I had iTunes 4.9 and installed 5.0 ontop of it. When I went to start 5.0 it would not start. At all. I get a hourglass for about half a second and then nothing. No error message. No nothing. I don't run any firewall or antivirus currently. I've tried disabling the bonjour services. I've tried installing quicktime standalone and the bonjour services then installing itunes. I've made sure I have a current version of the dll. I'm not sure what else I am supposed to try. Wondering if I missed any posts that might help me.
Thanks for your time.

well here you have my story
Whenever I use iTunes, it seems to only want to open upon the very first time after installation. It's very irritating - the only way I can get it to work again is to totally uninstall it (repair doesn't work), then reinstall it. Then it works - only for the first time again. Doh!
Everytime I try to open it up, the hourglass/arrow combo cursor appears for about 2 seconds and then nothing happens. In task manager, the iTunes exe appears for that same amount of time and then disappears.
After trying three clean XP installs and re-installing both quicktime and iTunes numerous times, I still can't figure out why it won't start! Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Update 7.43 to 7.6 - iTunes won't start  but have iTunes.exe Task

    Hi There!
I updated my Company-Computer from iTunes 7.4.3 to 7.6 and now iTunes won't start.
All it does is: It shows the waitcursor for a few seconds and I get a Task in the Taskmanager that says iTunes.exe
But it won't show the EULA where I am asked to accept Apples Terms.
I updated my Laptop too and that works fine.
I checked all the Services that where running (on both systems) and they where identical.
What else could prevent the EULA window from appering? And if I acceped the EULA would iTunes start ok?
Has anyone had the same problem and what could I do?
So far I deinstalled iTunes and everything else (AppleLike) and cleaned the registry of all iTunes and Quicktime branches. After a reboot I installed it again - so far it didn't help.
Has anyone an idea what I could try else (reinstalling windows ist out of the question since it is may workplace PC; everything else works fine.
    Thanks in advance

    Hey Everyone,
I am going to add to the long list of outrage. I JUST purchased (like literally...9 hours ago...) an 8GB iPod Touch and after installation I ran into the EXACT same problem. Since I am a new owner this is the first time I have iTunes installed on my computer. So of course I downloaded the most recent version (as instructed). Like everyone else in this thread is saying, you try to open up the iTunes application but the GUI doesn't appear at all. Apparently "something" is running because its process is active in the Task manager but there is nothing on my screen! What's the problem here??? I've done everything short of reinstalling XP (thats actually kind of unnecessary as you shouldn't have to uninstall an entire OS just to get an application to work...update files or clean the registry--sure...uninstall then reinstall--no..). Yes, obviously this is an Apple product so there won't be many (if any) conflicts when connecting to an Apple device (like a Macbook). But seriously guys....seriously???
What is more outrageous to me, besides the fact that this is a widespread problem...is the fact that this is a CURRENT problem that has YET to be even identified or rectified by anyone from Apple. I went on this forum, thinking that this was some known occurrence that happened maybe months ago and could be fixed immediately--but I am viewing messages from this week and even TODAY!
This is absolutely unacceptable. Who needs to be contacted concerning conflict resolution with Apple hardware? Or does Apple wish to have another iPhone-esque debacle like a few months ago?
Not to be rude, but I am not the average user that knows nothing about software and/or hardware (as I'm sure alot of others are knowledgeable). I am not "that person" that doesn't plug in the computer into the outlet then wonders why its not working. I don't mean to come here with an air of anger but this is truly ridiculous...lets get the ball rolling on a fix or start drafting up those $299.99 refunds...

  • ITunes kept freezing and now it won't start at all

It all started when I downloaded an iTune U class that contained a lot of videos and chose to download all old episodes. It turned out there so many that it would take 25 hours. I tried to abort the downloads, but apparently that messed something up.
First iTunes started up normally, tried to download "83 items" and then started to freeze up after a minute. I had to shut it down via the Task Manager.
Then it got worse, and now it won't start at all. After I click on the icon to open iTunes (I have Windows 8) the screen turns white, the blue wheel spins and nothing happens. When I hold the cursor over the iTunes icon in the task bar I can see two preview tiles (one for Download and one for iTunes itself), but both are blank (all white) and nothing happens - the blue wheel will spin forever. What do I do?
I do have the latest version of iTunes. If I uninstall and reinstall iTunes, will that solve the problem? And will the content of my library still be there?  Thanks!

    Hello, J Appleseed.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can try an uninstall and reinstall of iTunes to see if that resolves the issue.  Your iTunes library will not be deleted by doing this.  However, this issue could be a result of multiple issues so an uninstall/reinstall may not resolve this.  Below, I have included the best articles that will help you isolate and possibly correct this issue.  Process each step and test the results after each step processed.

  • Invalid Library File - ITunes won't open - AT ALL!!!

hi, need some help! ITunes won't open, at all. Have followed Apple's advice to recreate library (by locating library.xml and moving it to the desktop, while trashing the ITunes library.itl file)ITunes still doesn't open. Connecting Ipod to laptop does nothing either! Any advice would be great!

    Hey try this out:
Turn Norton 2005's Personal Firewall OFF, (turn it OFF Permanently until your ready to turn it back on) then click CONFIGURE.
Under the PROGRAMS tab remove any reference to Apple iTunes or iTunes or iTunes Helper Module or anything related. and reboot.
After coming back go back to Norton 2005's Personal Firewall, click CONFIGURE. Under the PROGRAMS tab click ADD at the bottom, a SELECT A PROGRAM
window will pop up. Add the following files one at a time, iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, QuickTimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe, QTInfo.exe. The last 3 are found
in your Quicktime folder where that is in your system. Click OK. Turn Norton 2005's Personal Firewall ON, and try starting iTunes again.
This worked for me. It seems the Quicktime files were never automatically entered into my Norton 2005's Personal Firewall allowable programs listing. Adding them
manually should help. I also noticed that from my previous version of iTunes the program listed in the Firewall was named Apple iTunes and not iTunes after I upgraded to 6.
Let me know if this works out.

  • IPod Touch not recognized in Windows & iTunes won't start unknown error -50

I have been trying to fix a connectivity issue with my iPod touch for almost 6 hours now. I've read all over the iPod Touch forums and none of the solutions worked for me. I've installed and uninstalled iTunes multiple times and nothing seems to work.
Also, earlier this evening iTunes was working but it wouldn't recognize my iPod touch although it would charge. Now that iTunes won't start I'm also having problems with charging my iPod and at no time, was my iPod ever recognized in 'My Computer'.
Someone please help! I'm at my wits end without being able to use and update my iPod. All help/insight/suggestions are appreciated and thanks in advance!

  • ITunes won't start up when connecting iPhone

My wife has been having this trouble for awhile, and now I started having the same trouble too. She has an iMac G5 running latest versions of Leopard and iTunes. I have a Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet model) running the latest version of Tiger and iTunes I also have a USB 2.0 PCI card which has already been tested and is operating properly. Both of our iPhones are the original model running iPhone 2.0, but this problem was happening on her setup before the 2.0/MobileMe fiasco.
Basically, iTunes won't start on her machine when she sets her iPhone into the iPhone Dock, even though it does show that it is charging. When she clicks iTunes, it syncs new data from her iMac to her iphone, but new data on her iPhone doesn't transfer to her iMac (remember, this is BEFORE the MobileMe/2.0 update). I've tried different sync cables, plugging it in to different USB ports, and always it's the same- it may work properly when I unplug the cable and plug it back in again, but after I remove the iPhone from its dock and set it back in, it malfunctions the same as I just described. It initiates a sync if iTunes is running, but not if iTunes is shut down. The crazy thing is, her syncing was working perfectly both ways until about two months before the MobileMe/2.0 switch, so I know it has nothing to do with that.
Today, my Power Mac and iPhone started displaying the same symptoms, but with a twist- I put my iPhone into its cradle, and nothing- no charging screen and tone, no syncing startup, nothing. I turn iTunes off, pull the iPhone out of the cradle, and set it back in again- nothing. iTunes won't even start up; and when I start it up myself, it still doesn't recognize the iPhone is there. I plug the iPhone into a wall charger using the same cable I sync with, and it starts charging with no problems. I plug my iPhone cradle back into my external USB hub, connected to one of the USB 1.1 ports, and the syncing/charging works flawlessly. The weird thing is, my 4th Generation iPod Photo is on a different dock with a different cable, plugged into the same USB 2.0 card, and iTunes starts and syncs with no problems with that iPod every time.
I've taken my wife's iMac, her iPhone, and her iPhone dock and cable in to the Apple Store's Genius Bar, but they weren't able to figure out the problem. They tried to redirect the syncing issues by trying to demonstrate iPhone 2.0's wireless push/pull capabilities, but they couldn't get that to work properly, even though all the settings on the imac and the iPhone were correct. All they could suggest was that I must have had a "bad upgrade" when I upgraded to Leopard (6 months ago?!?), and that I should try an "Archive and Install" of Leopard again to see if that sorts out the issue- something I do not really have the time to do (and my wife can't really be without her Mac for that long since she uses it for work).
I see a lot of similar issues on Apple's iPhone support pages with iTunes not recognizing iPhones when they're plugged in, or not charging when plugged in, etc. I've spent a lot of money on our Macs and our iPhones based on the idea (from Apple's own marketing) that Apple's products "just work". And darn it, with all the money I've invested into these products I just want them to WORK- EVERY TIME, without fail! These are the kind of problems I left behind in the Windows world, and I don't want their ugly heads to surface here too.

  • Please help - iTunes won't start anymore: unknown error -69

    Hello out there,
please can anybody help me: all of a sudden my iTunes won't start any more - it only shows a message stating an unknown error -69 and then quits.
I did not change anything on my system before that, so I just don't know what could trigger that...
I am using iTunes 7.0.2 on Windows XP SP2, both German versions.
Before posting this question I searched the archives and tried the following, all to no avail:
    1. disabled "safe mode" in QuickTime audio options -> problem remains
    2. set speakers to "stereo headphones" in Windows sound options -> problem remains
    3. deinstalled iTunes, downloaded the installation file again and reinstalled it -> problem remains
    4. deinstalled iTunes and QuickTime, downloaded QuickTime stand-alone version, installed this and afterwards iTunes again -> problem remains
    5. deinstalled iTunes and QuickTime again, deleted all iTunes and QuickTime data folders, reinstalled everything again -> problem remains
    6. ran a CHKDSK an the drive iTunes is on -> no problems found
It still won't start, always giving this unknown error -69.
Please, does anybody know what to do?
Any hints and help are much appreciated!
    Thanks a lot
    and best regards

  • TS1717 itunes won't start because it says the folder was made in newer version, what should be done?

itunes won't start because it says the folder was made in newer version, what should be done?

If you haven't deliberately tried to downgrade iTunes then it is possible the library is corrupt. This approach should work.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • ITunes won't start after update

    Hi,
I just upgraded my ITunes using the normal Apple update process when I was prompted - and now I-Tunes won't start at all.
I can see the ITunes.exe start in Windows Task Manager....then it just shuts down again.
    Any ideas ?

    I tried another solution :
    1. Un-install I-Tunes
    2. In-install Bonjour
    3. Reboot
    4. Install latest I-Tunes
This seems to have fixed the problem.
So it looks like BONJOUR IS THE PROBLEM.

  • Itunes won't start clicking to open itunes freezes computer

My problem started with the latest version of itunes (11.3 for windows 64 bit). I am running windows 7. The update froze my computer so I uninstalled itunes and downloaded 11.3. It wouldn't complete so i uninstalled again and it took a long time but completed. I clicked on the icon to start and nothing happened EXCEPT it froze my computer! Came to this forum and tried all the fixes (ironically, the fix by apple for this problem want you to start itunes in safe mode.  Hello, it won't start at all (following all procedures) . I have tried everything including deleting all apple out of regedit.  I have tried everything I could find including running 3 different virus programs to see if I have a virus. No virus. Brand new Quicktime. Uninstalled Bonjour. Can someone please help?  Thanks.

I'm replying to my own fix here in case someone else wants to try an easy fix: I uninstalled every mention of apple and itunes from my computer. Installed a previous version (itunes 10.7) for 64 bit. Deleted library.itl since there was nothing in it and it works! after 15 hours of trying all of the suggested fixes, the new install took about 10 minutes.I guess windows 7 just hates itunes 11.3 (or vice versa!) Anyway, i'm happy now.

  • Itunes won't start on vista home premium

I installed Vista Home Premium and did a fresh install of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
iTunes won't start and gives an error (iTunes won't start):
    Eventname: APPCRASH
    Name: iTunes.exe
    Version: 7.1.1.5
    Timestamp:45f8a616
    Name of the errormodule: StackHash_03ef
I can't seem to find the solution in the Forums and internet.
I deinstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times but it still gives the same error.
    Quicktime also won't start.
    Any help is appreciated.

I deinstalled all codecs (including Nero), because windows vista solutions also pointed me in that direction, but no luck yet..
okay. we'd better try swapping out your QuickTime now that the codecs are out of the way.
sometimes with that sort of "error message free" launch failure with QuickTime, Add/Remove doesn't want to get rid of the QuickTime. so we'll try the following technique if that happens:
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Suddenly, iTunes won't start.  HELP!

I recenlty upgraded my MacBook OS to Lion, and now iTunes won't start up.  I got the following message:
The file "iTunes Libarary.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.  Would you like to download iTunes now?"
I then checked to see if there was a new version of iTunes.  There was, and I downloaded it (along with several other downloads for other apps), but I still get the same message.  I rebooted the computer, but that didn't help.
Interestingly, I looked at the installed software section of Software Update and all the packages I downloaded today are listed...except for iTunes.  So, I checked again for software updates, but iTunes doesn't come up as available for download.
The "Get Info" window for the iTunes I currently have installed indicates it's v. 10.3.1, which I'm guessing is not the latest version.  So what happened to the download, and how can I find it to try again?
    Thanks.
    Rich

    UPDATE:
I was able to find out how to download the latest version of iTunes and it's now opening and working fine.  Thanks.
