ITunes won't sync any music that was not purchased from iTunes onto my iPhones 5S

I have updated to Mavericks on my macbook, and iTunes will no longer sync my iPhone 5S properly. It does not remove any music that has been deleted. My phone will no longer play any music that was not purchased from iTunes. I tried to delete all my music and download it again, but iTunes would not remove it from the phone. Is anyone having a similar problem? Any ideas to get things back to normal? I am restoring from back up as I type, but I doubt it will solve my problem.

I had the exact same problem since upgrading to Mavericks. When I tried to copy the music from iTunes, either wifi or wired, it appeared in 'On this phone' greyed out. Forcing a sync didn't help. I noticed too that iTunes showed odd values for the amount of space available on the phone - around 9GB compared to 27GB on the phone itself.
I solved the problem by turning off iTunes Match, turning it back on again, then reconnecting my iPhone.

This is a problem with home sharing, you are not going to have to re-encode all your CD's.

  • Can I transfer music that is only on my iPad that WAS NOT purchased from iTunes to my iTunes account on new computer?

I've had my iPad 2 for about four years now and I can tell that the interface is being very slow and that the screen does not always react when I tap on it, meaning I may have to get a new one sooner or later.
My biggest problem is that on my iPad, I have all of the Beatles' CDs, some of which are from my own personal copies and some are from my former local public library. Ever Since I copied all these CDs onto my iPad, I've moved to a new state and got a new laptop, thus starting with an iTunes account that only has music I purchased from the iTunes Store on it, and no Beatles. The local libraries where I live now do not offer any CDs for borrowing, so I have no way of getting some of the CDs I don't own for free. I really do not want to purchase a bunch of albums from iTunes, as well.
Is there any way to get the Beatles music that is only on my iPad that was not purchased from iTunes onto my iTunes account without removing it from my iPad? Thanks for your help!

Then the latter part of my first reply which is repeated here:

CAN I CONNECT MY IPOD CLASSIC TO ANY COMPUTER AND UPDATE ANY MUSIC THAT I HAVE PURCHASED FROM ITUNES ON MY IPAD?

Plug the iPod into the new computer.  When it pops up on the left sidebar, right-click on the iPod and select "Transfer Purchases".  Make sure that you Authorize the computer to play content purchased with that account, or else the music will not play.

I have music that was not purchased from I tunes and has somehow ended up on I cloud I think! How do I get this back to my I phone?

Import the music into your iTunes library and sync like any other music.

  • How do I get music that is in my Itunes folder, i.e. my own music that was not purchased from the Itunes store, on to my ipod?

How do i get music that i have put into my itunes folder, i.e. it was not purchased in itunes but from another source, onto my ipod?
I have looked at a number of different discussions and none have given me the solution.
I have recently had to do a restore and all the music that was once on the device was wiped.

Import the music into your iTunes library and sync like any other music.

  • HT1766 Will this backup music on my iphone that was not purchased from itunes?

    will it?

No. Any music on your phone that did not come from iTunes MUST have come from your computer. It should still be there.

  • How do I transfer music that was not purchased on iTunes or iPhone (were from my computer files) onto my iPhone 3gs using iCloud?

I have done all the settings for iCloud on both my PC (Windows 7) and my iPhone 3gs, and I had to research how to get music from my iTunes onto my iPhone through iCloud. I go to store > Purchased > Music > Not on this iPhone, but this only brings up songs I actually purchased on iTunes.
However, I have recently added music from my files on the pc and they do not appear in"Not on this iPhone" to download to my iPhone.
It is very important I find out how to get the other music onto my iPhone as I can no longer plug it into my pc since it blue screens the pc every time (No idea why)

You need a third-party program. See:

  • HT1296 Can i sync my ip4s on to a new pc and not lose music that was not purchased but imported from cd or will it only sync purchased music?

can i sync my iphone to a new pc without losing music that was not purchased but imported from cd? or will it only sync purchased music? thanks x

If you're trying to sync your iphone to a different computer than the one that you used to import your CD's, you can't (anymore).  Now that Apple is selling iTunes Match ($25/yr) you can only access non-iTunes-purchased songs if they are either:
    A) on the exact computer that you used to import them into iTunes
    or
    B) are already synced to your iphone
Now that iTunes Match exists, if you want to move non-iTunes-purchased music that you imported on one computer...to a different computer, you have to buy iTunes Match.  Awesome, huh?

my computer with itunes zapped by lightning.  cannot access itunes files.  how can i transfer my music on my iphone to a new computer.  much of it was not purchased from itunes store

Did you fail to maintain a backup copy?
If so, then you can buy a third party program to extract the music not purchased from itunes.
Itunes purchases can be transferred to your computer:  File>Transfer Purchases.

  • I deleted iTunes from my PC, is there any way i can sync my phone to a newly downloaded iTunes without losing my music that wasn't purchased from iTunes?

    BACK-STORY
I recently was given a new iPhone 4S from the Apple Store, I synced it to my PC when I got home and got everything back.I had to uninstall a download of windows 8.1 back to the original windows 8 in order to install an anti-virus software. The only way to uninstall Windows 8.1 is basically a factory reset, by doing so I lost everything that wasn't saved in cloud or external drive.I downloaded iTunes again, signed in and the only thing I could find was the music that I purchased from iTunes. I don't want to connect my phone to the iTunes I just downloaded, because I think I'm going to lose all the music that's already on there, minus the music I bought from iTunes. It's a lot of albums and it took me a while to collect them all too.
WHAT I WOULD LIKE HELP WITH PLEASE
Can I transfer the music on my phone to some type of storage?
    USB memory drive
Cloud ex. Skydrive, Google Drive, Dropbox etc
Store somewhere on my PC. (I know I can't sync from my iPhone to iTunes.)
If it is at all possible to store the music that's already on my iPhone using another method, such as the ones I've mentioned or haven't,can I then transfer it to iTunes?
If there is no way to save my iPhone's music library, then when I rebuild it is there a way to store it, that if the same thing was to happen I wouldn't have to go through this process?
Also, any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL!!

  • HT204053 if i synch iPOD to iCLOUD and have songs stored in iPOD that were not purchased from iTUNES i assume a synch to the cloud will erase my non iTUNES songs? i tried this last year & this happened already & forced me to reload many songs. any solutio

i have music purchased on my computer that is from rhapsody & napster in addition to what i bought from iTUNES. if i synch to the cloud i assume i will lose my other non iTUNES music if i synch my iPOD and computer to iCLOUD? this already happened to me last year and forced me to reload from CDs my other non iTUNES songs back into my computer! anyone know a way around this dilemma? my computer now has almost 900 songs & i fear if i synch my iPOD to my computer and synch to iCLOUD i will get a repeat of losing my non iTUNES songs once again! i have not turned on my iPOD or synced it to my computer for many months! huge hassle to recopy songs from CD & maybe it is best to sign into iCLOUD to back up my newly purchased songs and then exit iCLOUD and then synch my iPOD to my computer and then synch without going into the iCLOUD scenario? i do not know and really need help on this. please answer in simple terms?

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!
    hope this helps!

  • ITunes won't sync any music to my new iPhone 6

  • Upgraded to ios8 on ipod last night and now it won't play any music I didn't purchase via itunes.

Upgraded to ios 8 on my ipod touch last night.  Today when I've tried to play songs I've had loaded that were not iTunes purchases, the songs will not play.  The screen scrolls through all tracks on the albums quickly and returns to the album screen. All songs now have a red circle with a red square in them.  Repeated selecting of a song results in the same action.
Anyone else experienced a similar problem, any ideas on how to fix... ?  I've got thousands of songs that I loaded into my iTunes library from cds that now don't seem to work on the ipod.

Any suggestions that dealt with 'downloading purchased' really didn't apply since the issue was with songs I imported into my iTunes library and not with content that I'd purchased.  Nothing seemed to resolve the issue completely.  Even went as far as completely wiping out the iPod (I really only use it for storing my music) and reloading as a new iPod.
While that did end up downloading some of the non-purchased content it still didn't download close to 2000 songs.  A friend told me her daughter suggested going into settings/music/show all music and turning option off.  Then sync again.  No idea why but seemed to download all my iTunes library content.
