Itunes won't sync ipod (error 54)

I installed the new itunes and bought a new ipod and initially I had a problem getting itunes to recognize my device but after going into update driver software it now recognizes the ipod but I still can't sync! It will start to and then I get an error message 54. Any help is appreciated as I am really tired of spending so much time on this one ipod problem.

This is from an old post - it seems to have fixed the problem for some people.
Error -54 is a file permissions issue -
if you open the Start menu & type %userprofile% (including both % symbols) then hit Enter you should see the My Music folder, which is the default location for iTunes music files.
Open My Music, select the iTunes folder
Then, make sure you have sufficient control over the contents of that folder -
right-click on the folder, go to Properties
    Security tab, Advanced..
    Permissions tab, Change Permissions...
click your account name in the list, make sure it says 'Full Control' [if not, reply to that effect & we will need to revise this answer]
check the box underneath for "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object"
click OK. That should recursively give correct permissions right down the folder hierarchy.

  • ITunes 8 on Vista 32; iTunes won't sync iPOD with my Existing Library

After upgrading to iTunes 8, when I try to sync my iPOD, I get a message that the iPOD is sychronized with another library and I get a pop-up box asking if i want to copy purchased music to the new library. I DON'T want to do that. I want my iPOD synchronized with my old music library.
How can I do this? I don't want to lose access to any of the music in my library. It's a mixture of purchased and CD source music.

Hey I get the same error, its an absolute nightmare, everytime i try to sync a new song or cd i have to reload my entire itunes library on my ipod, are there any patches out there that fix the problem?

  • New itunes won't sync ipod touch

Received replacement 1st generation ipod touch yesterday. Downloaded newest version of itunes at the local library, put on thumb drive. (I don't have internet at my residence, stand-alone computer) Itunes recognizes the ipod, but won't let me put any media on it. It keep sgiving me an error message that I'm not connected to the internet.
What should I do? Would reverting to an earlier version of itunes work?

You need internet access to authorize the computer/log into your account in iTunes. After that you shuld not longer need internet access.
    Two solutions:
-- Get internet access at home
-- Copy all you media to a USB drive or similar and go to friend's home with iTunes and internet access and load up your iPod there.

  • Itunes won't sync ipod after initial sync

Running windows XP SP3, Itunes 9.1.1.12, IPod Clasic 80 GB about 3.5 years old.
When I plug in my ipod, itunes starts up and syncs. But any subsequent attempts to sync or turn on disk mode fail with the following error "The iPod PJ's IPod cannot be synced. The required disk could not be found". The ipod back light would usually come back on and the big red "do not disconnect" will usually display, that doesn't happen on the subsequent attempts either. All attempts to Enable disk use fail with this error as well. I can disk connect and re-connect to get Ipod to sync again.
    Anyone with any ideas?

  • Restored 4th Gen Ipod, now itunes won't sync all my songs, what to do?

I was having trouble with my ipod, so I restored. Now all the songs on my itunes won't sync down to my pod. It took like 20 songs out of 2000. How do I fix this?

    replying to aissy55
It comes up with a 1428 error message sometimes, and sometimes it says that I have to restore my iPod. I have restored it many times, but it just keeps going in a circle and will not sync my songs back to the iPod.
hmmmm. if you're relentlessly getting a recovery mode message, then you might be having a Windows drive letter confusion. see the following document for troubleshooting suggestions with that:

  • What can i do if iTunes won't sync my music to my iPod touch / iPhone?

After restoring my HD i installed iTunes again. When i tried to put my music back on my iPod i saw that some of the songs aren't on there anymore because iTunes won't sync it like it should...what can i do?

Sorry if i say this but honestly i'm really disappointed about everyone in this forum here because i was hoping to get help from someone  but i didn't even get any reply to my question so i guess i'm gonna call the Apple support...

  • ITunes won't sync but iPod working...?

I downloaded the most recent iTunes and tried to sync my iPod (an 80 gig with video, fyi). iTunes said it needed to restore, that the iPod was corrupt, etc.; I did as it said and waited for the iPod to restart... just to have iTunes say it needed to restore again. After repeating the process a few times I unplugged the iPod and found that it was asking for a language and that it showed the menu options and the games worked, but because it had been restored there was no music on it. Now iTunes won't sync it but the iPod itself is turning on and doesn't show any music (except for, you know, the lack of music.)
It is important to know, I guess, that my iPod hasn't been working perfectly lately; she's been freezing up, won't play some songs, working sluggishly... Last night she was particularly diifficult and after restarting a few times refused to play more than one or two songs (before freezing.)
I can't think of any time I've dropped her from anymore than a few inches off whatever surface, and every time she was in her case so I doubt that had anything to do with it...
Can anyone help? I thought it might just be a problem with the new iTunes so I don't want to send her in for service just yet, but the sooner she's fixed, the better.
Thank you ver much in advance!

    Hi there,
Have you tried the 5 R's that Apple recommend trying?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303940
It sounds like you could do with going through them - make sure that you have the very latest iTunes software before starting.
    I hope this helps.

  • My iTunes won't sync music to my iphone 4

My iTunes won't sync music on to my iPhone 4. It syncs music on to my ipod 3rd gen, but not my iPhone. All my software is up to date, and all my settings are correct, but nothing seems to work. I've tried, turning my phone off and on, restoring my phone, restarting my computer, unchecking and checking my music, and nothing seems to work. I only have one playist with all the songs I want onto my iPhone, because my whole iTunes library doesnt fit onto it. Another note, it was working perfectly fine yesterday and this morning. But earlier today, my music only showed 3 artists, 2 albums, and 622 songs (which is how much I should have on there), and I tried re-syncing my iPhone, and now there's no music on there at all. Please help, music is the main thing I use my phone for, and its gonna make me go crazy if I dont fix this.

    But.
I too had a similar problem - my thoughts were:
Something to do with update to IOS 7.4
    Corruption
    Itunes software issue
After a LOT of research, I found a simple step that solved this issue for me.
I had been running my sync (pre - IOS 7.4) as automatic - see the options section under the summary tab
I changed my selection to manually manage music and videos and tried another sync
    Wha La!
It began to copy over 700 songs that had not properly synced to my Ipad 2
BONUS: it then started to sync my videos again.
    Hope this helps somebody.
It certainly made my life less frustrating
Downside: I have to MANUALLY manage - but it's better than all the hassles
NB: I don't know why this error occurs and I'm not sure this fix will work for everyone's issues but it can't hurt.

  • IPhone4s won't sync. Error message says I do not have privileges to make changes.

My iPhone4s won't sync. Error message says I do not have privileges to make changes.
Why not?! It synced fine yesterday and I have made no changes. How do I get it to stop giving me the error message and sync?
I have tried shutting everything down. I have tried everything I can think of short of wiping the phone by hitting "Restore" and I really do not want to do that.

    Thank you.
I actually figured it out a while ago.
Turns out it is not an issue with the iPhone or iTunes.
By process of elimination I deduced it could be a permissions issue with the hard drive and/or folder that holds the contents of my Music Library.
For example, if the "Sharing & Permissions" settings (found in the "Get Info" Window) are set to "Read Only" on the internal or external drive that contains your Music Library for iTunes then you can not write to the disk. Therefore, you do not have privelges to make changes to the internal or external drive and you get the error message when you try to sync with the information on that drive.
Here's the kicker and million dollar questions:
How did the "Sharing & Permissions" settings get changed on my Hard Drive without me doing it?
Why did my iPhone sync fine yesterday and suddenly today the Hard Drive is doing this?
I have to set all priveleges to all drives to "Read & Write" and that just doesn't seem very secure to me.
