Itunes won't transfer my music to new phone the way it used to.

I replaced my 4s with a used 4s that was wiped clean when I got it. I restored from cloud to my last backup and it's all working but it didn't include music (not sure if it should have). When I try to manually transfer music by connecting to my itunes on the computer (using usb connecter) it says I need to "erase and sync" because the phone is already associated with an itunes account and list's the same one I'm using I think, the same one used with the old phone. It does say something about that account being on "(my son's) computer" but I belive it's the same since the old phone had been my son's and we have always used the same itunes. Will I loose everything including all the apps and settings I just re-set up by letting it do this? Will it effect the library in Itunes at all? The phone didn't have any music on it at all after setting it up with the last backup restore. But I have noticed that at some point while trying to set it up and move music from itunes a few (and I mean very few) songs were added. I'm not sure when or why and I can't figure out why nothing will transfer now. I don't even seem to be able to transfer ring tones onto the new phone. I'm sorry this is so long and I'm sure basic but I have been looking all over for the answer or something about this "message" and haven't been able to find anything and wanted to include a. I've learned the hard way not to just let itunes take over and start erasing things without knowing what will happen!

My photo's are all copied and backed up I just don't really want to have to go through loading them all back again. The same with my apps. I have never used itunes for apps or pictures or anything other than music. I use the cloud for backups and have a home network drive for all of our document, photo backup and storage. I just want to know before I find out the hard way if by doing this I will have to spend a buch of time getting all of that stuff back on the phone again. Given I just spent time doing this I would probably wait to put music on it if saying yes to itunes request will mean having to do it all over again.
Again the only thing in my itunes is music I don't use it to backup the phone and I just spent a chunk of time loading the apps and settings...along with cleaning some stuff up and loading some photo's and stuff that weren't on the other phone yet. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough about what I was asking or concerned about. I'm new and inexperienced with the iphone and itunes but not stupid...exactly why I'm asking the question, so I don't do something stupid I'm sorry for.

I have a large library of music on my iphone 5s. I have just upgraded to iphone6. I believe I need to have all my music in my itunes library to transfer it to my new phone - however all I can see in my itunes library is music I have purchased recently. This library of music is from years ago. Ho can I get all my music on my new phone ? Thanks

See turingtest2's user tip on Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.  You should, however, maintain your library on your PC and maintain a regular backup of it.  iPhones are neither designed as nor suitable as data storage devices.

  • How do i transfer my music from my phone onto itunes without it being erased?

I would like to transfer my music from my phone onto my iTunes account. The music is from an old computer and is still on the same iTunes account but does not display on my new computer when installing the account.
Any help would be great. Thank you.

    Howdy bronnie27,
Music purchased from the iTunes store that is on your iPhone can be transferred to iTunes on a computer using the methods found in this article -

  • Will apple store transfer my music to new iphone for me

will  the apple store transfer my music to new iphone for me?

    Do this:
Create a separate user account for you. Launch iTunes, then Store>Authorize this Computer. Then:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

  • TS1717 My Itunes won't open and I am getting message "the file "iTunes Library .itl" cannot be ready because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".  Any suggestions?

My iTunes won't open and I am getting message "the file iTunes library .itl"cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.  Anyone have a suggestion?

I don't know why this error occurs, unless you have attempted to downgrade iTunes.
This method should get you up and running again.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Hi, Unfortunately my Laptop has died (which had my iTunes on it). I want to ensure my music on my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air are backed up. Also, I want to sort my music in the way I used to with iTunes. How can I do this with just these two devices, i.e. NO Computer? Can the iCloud help? Why can't I download iTunes (i.e. my library as I saw it on the computer) to these devices? Thanks to anyone who can help me here.

You can change the email address of one's appleID...
I'd recommend changing moms email to yours to get a good backup on the Mac
Then switch mom's back to hers
Then change your account to the same email you used.
I've done something similar when I needed to update my Apple account (one ID changing email addresses and phone)

My iTunes won't open. When I click on the icon nothing happens. It doesn't bounce or anything. When i plug my iPhone into my macbook nothing happens either. I recently updated my operating system to the Yosemite. Everything worked fine until i updated it. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

Program folder? In general backing up and restoring application folders is not going to work. Windows programs should be installed using the appropriate installation programs.

    Restore from the backup!
You password: You have set it! It might be your passcode or you mioght have set it accidentally, so test all of the passwords you normally use. If you cannot get the password you backup is lost, but you can still sync your iTunes content.
