Itunes won't update IPOD after running Updater

I should have known to leave things alone!
Updated Itunes and ran updater. Have a 15gb IPOD m9460ll.
Now everytime I connect the IPOD it runs the wizard asking me to name the ipod and then it looks like it runs and the songs look like they are there, but they are not on the ipod. Update says complete.
I've uninstalled and re-installed itunes, reset the ipod.
Anybody have any ideas?

Figured it out!
The updater had assigned a drive letter that was already in use as a network drive. I went into disk management and re-assigned the IPOD to a different drive letter.
Works now. Hey Apple!, check for an available drive letter before you assign it.

  • ITunes does not see iPod after last updates

It seems that many people have this same problem, but I do not see any solutions. I recently updated my iTunes to the latest version and did the iPod updaters. Since this, my computer at home and work no longer recognizes my iPod. I keep getting something asking me to restore my iPod, but i have a bunch of pictures on it that I do not have saved anywhere else. Doing a restore will erease everything on my iPod.
    please help.
    Jaryn

    Well, that was annoying.
I just went through the same grief being reported by many other users here: I updated my iTunes on Windows XP, and it stopped recognizing my iPod. (Plugging in the iPod would actually kick off iTunes, but after coming up, iTunes refused to see the iPod.)
It's working again, and it did seem to be related to network drives. However, I wasn't very disciplined about trying a single step, seeing if it worked, then proceeding to the next step, so I can't guarantee which specific step(s) below that actually solved the problem.
    But for what it's worth:
    1. I recently (a day or two before updating iTunes) mounted a new network drive, assigned to drive "G:". My iPod has been "F:" since I first installed it.
    2. When iTunes stopped seeing my iPod after updating, I tried resetting the iPod's drive assignment to "H:".
(Unfortunately, I also tried everything else, including restoring the iPod to factory settings...it's now updating something like 1500 tracks.)
    3. Resetting the iPod's drive letter as suggested in another thread didn't seem to do anything by itself, however I ALSO UNMAPPED THE NEWER DRIVE ASSIGNMENT DESCRIBED IN STEP 1.
    4. Now here's the other stuff I did before trying it again, which may or may not have contributed to the fix:
    - I undocked (it's a laptop)
    - I moved the USB cable from the docking station
to one of the laptop ports
    - I rebooted
After doing this, I plugged in the iPod, and ALLELUIA BROTHERS AND SISTERS, it was RECOGNIZED ONCE MORE!
    Give me an AMEN.
Hope this helps somebody else to get going.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod after trying to update to iOS 5?

Today I tried updating to iOS 5, and I had to update to iTunes 10.5, so while the update was downloading, I left my room, when I came back, iTunes said it was finished and I then decided to update my iPod to iOS 5.I had then decided to leave my room and when I came back, iTunes wasn't running anymore and my iPod had the "USB to iTunes" screen, so I tried plug in my iPod to my computer and since I'm on Windows XP, it then gave me the error noise and said that this driver didn't exsist, so I tried updating my drivers and it ended up not working, so then I tried re-installing iTunes 10.5 and then I got another message saying "Bonjour Services failed to install" then it said "Bonjour Services failed to start" then later in the installation it said "Apple Mobile Support failed to Start"
So now my iPod is stuck on that screen and my iTunes won't work.
    *I'm running Windows XP 32-bit
    *I have a iPod Touch 4th Gen 32gb
*I have not tried to jailbreak or do anything except use iTunes to import music

Same here: junk Apple upgrade has stopped me accessing many apps. It appears to have stalled out.
Is this the Steve Jobs legacy?
"The iPod ------- could not be synced because the sync session failed to start."
What sort of error message is that?
It has just been through a complete restore and given the same message!
It has also lost a load of Apps that I have paid for and cannot use, nevermind material bought from the Apple Store.
What sort of rip off artists are these Apple dead beats?
Do I have to pay twice when they upgrade my Ipod?

  • Itunes won't recognize ipod after ipod software update

I have an Ipod Classic.  My laptop is a PC running Windows XP.  I have the latest ITunes software (10.5.2.11)
After updating my Ipod software through Itunes, Itunes no longer reads my Ipod.
When I connect the Ipod through the USB cord, the "Connected" screen appears on the Ipod, then the Ipod instantly goes to the "OK to disconnect" screen with the white disconnect bar, without prompting.  All during this time, Itunes never recognizes my Ipod.
Also on the "My Computer" screen, the Ipod is only recognized for the brief instant that the Ipod "Connected" screen appears.  When the Ipod goes to the "OK to disconnect" screen, the Ipod is no longer recognized on the "My Computer" screen.
I'm assuming restoring my Ipod to factory settings is the best way to fix this.  But how do I restore my Ipod if Itunes will never recognize it?

Itunes still does not recognize my Ipod and disconnects it immediately, even after disabling the firewall and anti-virus protection.
    Any other thoughts?

  • Itunes won't recognize iPod after installing MediaMonkey..

    Hi,
I recently switched from Itunes to MediaMonkey, and I'm very happy. But my girlfriend still uses iTunes. And now her iTunes won't recognize neither her or my iPod when I connect either of them. Windows and MediaMonkey recognizes them perfectly. iTunes just comes up with this error message:
"The software necessary to communicate with iPod isn't correctly installed. Install iTunes again before installing iPod-software."
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes a number of times. I even tried uninstalled MediaMonkey, but nothing works..
PLEASE HELP ME, I'M GOING INSANE HERE =(

Have you tried working through the steps in this article, in the order listed?

  • Updating iPod After Software Update

    Howdy,
Bit of a problem here. All of the software was updated last night and my iPod has been updated, yet it now says I need to plug it in to the standard electricity supply for it to update, but I don't have that plug. So, I can't use my iPod
Anything I can do to stop this or bypass it? I've only got the USB cable still
    Cheers

When updating or restoring the iPod via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see that icon displayed.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
    Or you can try this.
    http://www.bearsdriving.com/blog/archives/2005/10/youripod_tipo.html
I make no claims as to whether this will work, but merely point it out.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod after update

I got a 40G color photo ipod froma friend and had it restored, plugged it in, added my music, unplugged it, and used it just fine. I went to plug it back in to add a few more things and it was not recognized by iTunes. The autoplay window came up and then the iPod installer said I had to restore the iPod- which I did. Then I reinstalled my music, unplugged it, and it worked fine. Then I plugged it back in and the same thing happened. I went to the apple store and they restored it again and ran diagnostics on it. It seems to be just fine. I got it home. plugged it back in to my laptop, added my music, and it worked fine. Then I unplugged it and it messed up again.
You can see the frustrating cycle that I find myself in. Here are the things that I have noticed:
When I stop the update partway through, disconnect and then reconnect, it seems to be fine. Once the update is finished and the iPod is disconnected and reconnected, it seems to never work properly.
Also, it seems that when it is working properly, when I open the safely remove hardware window, the iPod is recognized as an iPod. It reads:
    USB mass storage device
    Apple iPod USB device
When it is not being recognized, I open the safely remove hardware window, and it says:
    USB mass storage device
    Generic volume - (E:)
    Apple iPod USB device
    Could this be the problem?
iPod 40G color photo   Windows XP Pro

B- I plugged in my iPod again this morning and got the same autoplay window- and no recognition. I went in to change the drive letter of the iPod following the instructions on the link you gave me. When I pull up the disk management window, I see 2 disks listed: (C:) and (E:), but it does not say IPOD like the picture does on the help page. Should I change the drive letter anyway? Does this mean that it's not recognized as an iPod? Thanks for your help...
Also, about 3-5 minutes after the autoplay window comes up, I get an "iPod not readable" message that instructs me to open the iPod updater to restore my iPod- which I've done 5 times already.

  • Windows/iTunes won't recognise iPod after update.

So I updated to the latest iTunes the other day and now just yesterday I plugged my iPod in for the first time in a few weeks.
It said something about upgrading to ISO4.0 so I downloaded the update. Everything seemed fine - was working no problem, downloaded and then went onto install. It mentioned something about an error occurring and not being able to back up my files. I didn't want to lose everything so I just cancelled that but it went ahead and did something anyway.
Then it all went a bit fuzzy. The iPod displays this image:
    http://km.support.apple.com/library/APPLE/APPLECAREALLGEOS/HT1808/HT180803.png
Even though it was connected and such. The PC (Dell inspiron 1501 - Service Pack 3 - XP Pro) went on to try installing new hardware for the USB device but fails every time with the message "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."
Now the iPod is stuck at the same screen I mentioned earlier and though I've tried restarting, restoring, recovery etc... Nothing works. It's just stuck like that - I've tried restarting my computer, reinstalling iTunes and the MSCONFIG thing this Apple support recommends. The only thing I can now think of is to try the iPod on someone else's computer.
But I'm unable to do that any time soon so I've come here first - should that actually work and solve my iPod being "stuck", what steps can I take to solve the obvious incompatibility with my own computer now? And should it not work, what do I do about the iPod? Cause I can't see a way of fixing it right now...
    Cheers,
    Jonny

My brother-in-law is having the same issue on his Win XP machine. Hoping to get some help here.

  • ITunes won't start up after recent update.

I recently updated my iTunes software a few days ago, to the current 10.6v (64-bit for Windows), and ever since the update, I haven't been able to open up the program at all. I can double-click the icon numerous times and my cursor will show the timer as if it's about to open, but nothing happens.
I can still plug in my iPod Touch (4th Generation, I believe) and it'll charge just fine. However, sync-up is impossible since the program won't run in the first place.
I have already tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, and so far, there are no results. Program still won't run.

I've done the first few steps successfully, but I run into a problem when I'm required to type in "C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info" into the address bar. When typed in, I recieve an error message that says, "Windows can't find C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info. Check the spelling and try again." I've directly copy and pasted the exact code in from the help page and it won't work.

  • ITunes won't recognize ipod after upgrade

Yesterday my ipod synced fine, then I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and now when I plug the ipod in, it does not show up anywhere. Nice.
I tried re-installing itunes re-booting and resetting the ipod countless times, different usb ports, etc. I'm convinced it is the software upgrade.
When I plug it in, it does not give the "do not disconnect" msg. It does nothing except indicate it is charging (little lightning bolt).
I had this same issue after an upgrade last year, and all the sudden it started working after simply plugging it in a few days later (magic!)
I also find it hilarious that one of the tips Apple suggests for this problem is to re-set your ipod to factory settings....which step 1 to do so is to connect it to your computer and select that in itunes--I can't get it to show up in itunes, so how can I re-format it!!
    Any suggestions?
Are there any other files I should trash when deleting itunes off my mac besides the application?

OK, it is working now. Not exactly sure the cause of problem, but here's what I did in case others have a similar problem:
I did not have a syncservices file Carolyn mentioned.
So I hunted around and found a document suggesting to delete the ipod.plist file and the isync.plist file in the preferences directory.
I did it one at a time, rebooting both my imac and ipod before connecting again.
Deleting the ipod file did not work.
Deleting the isync file DID WORK. Also note that throughout this I had re-named my "iTunes" folder (where all my songs are), so when I opened iTunes, it created a new blank song library. Also, each time I did delete the itunes plist files mentioned previously in this thread.
Once iTunes recognized my iPod I went ahead and restored it, deleting all the iPod data.
I then restored my original song library to itunes, and re-synced the ipod.
Then the moment of truth, disconnecting the ipod and re-connecting to see if iTunes will recognize it. NO LUCK. SAME PROBLEM! %$#@&!
While I'm re-booting the mac, I was playing some videos on my ipod, I had not played in a long time. By pure chance I find that 2 of them appear to be corrupt and did not play correctly...they were very old qt movie of some commercials I had from 10 years ago, that I stuck on my ipod for fun last year.
I also found a video podcast I downloaded from Apple --the day I had these problems--would not even play. It played on iTunes, but locked up my iPod--my iPod has never frozen like that.
So I trashed those corrupt video files before I re-synced my ipod yet again (after restoring it again,etc.).
NOW IT WORKS LIKE A DREAM.
Not sure if a corrupt video file can hose up iPod syncing, but that is what the evidence points to here. Or possibly the older videos combined with the new software upgrade.
    Thanks to Carolyn for suggestions.

  • Itunes won't sync ipod after initial sync

Running windows XP SP3, Itunes 9.1.1.12, IPod Clasic 80 GB about 3.5 years old.
When I plug in my ipod, itunes starts up and syncs. But any subsequent attempts to sync or turn on disk mode fail with the following error "The iPod PJ's IPod cannot be synced. The required disk could not be found". The ipod back light would usually come back on and the big red "do not disconnect" will usually display, that doesn't happen on the subsequent attempts either. All attempts to Enable disk use fail with this error as well. I can disk connect and re-connect to get Ipod to sync again.
    Anyone with any ideas?

  • What is the "other" data on my ipod after i updated my os

what is the "other" data on my ipod after i updated my os? and can i remove it? and how do i pair up devices via bluetooth?

    Hi
First, the "Others" what you see in iTunes when you're iDevice was plugged in, is where the iOS installed. It's the system core of your iDevice.
2nd - That ia hevn't used before, bluetooth pairing. The last time I tested it, I failed.
and now you're not the only one who needs help in bluetooth pairing, LOL...

iPhone 5s won't turn on after this update. Battery was at 98%, tried holding sleep & home button while plugged in, no good. Any ideas?

P.S. I just noticed; when I hold the power and home button at the same time while it's plugged in as if I was going to restart it, my computer acts as if I'd plugged it in again (it makes the USB notification sound, itunes opens up again, I get the same "your iphone is in recovery mode" message, etc.), but that's the only response I've been able to get from pressing anything on the iphone. thanks again.
