Itunes won't update nano with new software version

Since the new software update has become available (which I'm hoping might fix my multiples in cover flow issue) I've tried on multiple occasions over a few days to download and install the update on my new nano 4th Gen.
It goes through the licence agreement bit and says it's downloading and will instal when it's done. However after a few minutes it gives an error message that the connection with the itunes server has timed out. It says check your connections and such but all is fine, even itunes own diagnostic connection test is all fine.
I've even tried the restore option but that just dies on it's attempt to get new software too and doesn't get anywhere.
I'm pretty good with computers but this one's now got me stumped.
Anyone got any ideas?

Are you using a dial-up or broadband internet connection? If your using a dial-up connection, that might be your problem. If your using a broadband connectin and your getting this problem, you might just want to contact technical support.

    That's feature 1.
    Some features are not available in iPhone 4 and below and that includes Siri. Things like accessibility options received its update, more accents etc, syncing and being able to use your phone meanwhile, iCloud, newsstand etc

    I just updated my N95 8GB firmware to 30.0.0.18. My previous version was 20.0.016. It sounds like huge step when main number has increased from 20 to 30.
    However in the software update news page, which the main topic in this discussion area "TOP questions about Software Updates - start here" refers to eg. http://europe.nokia.com/A4577225 only has a few sentences about the new features of new firmware version. (and actually only for version 30.0.0.15, see news subtitle "Nokia N95 software version 30.0.015 released " ).
    I'd like to read more about the new features of 30.0.0.18 or 30.0.0.15.
    In general, is there a site, where new features or improventmens of the firmware versions are documented?

  • Won't Update to the new software

    My iTunes says that a newer version of software for my iPhone is available and to click "update" to update it. When I click update however I get a message saying that my iTunes is the current version and that's it. No option for new iPhone software
    Any suggestions?

    Uh, yeah... because iTunes is current and you need to update the iPhone software.
    With the iPhone connected, click on the device in the left pane.
    Then on the Info tab, select Check for Update or Update depending on what is shown.
    Selecting "Check for Updates" from the Help menu in iTunes will ONLY check for iTunes updates.

    iPod touchs (and iPhones and iPads) do not have a disk mode and thus the article you cite does not apply.

  • Just updated to the new software version... and lost all my music.  Anyway to get it back?

    So I went to update, had to clear room on my computer (it told me it needed about 28gig to compete update), it went through the whole update sucessfully, but none of my music, contacts, notes, etc. were put back except for apps.  What happened?  Any solutions?

    - Try restoring the iPod from backup. That should get the app data, contacts and most other stuff back.  Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if the date of the bckup would contain those items. It should be when you started the update process. Make sure that you have auto-syncing on connection (iTunes>Preferences>Devices turned off otherwise you will modify the exisiting backu to reflect the missing stuff.
    - Is the the music in your iTunes library? If not it would not be on the iPod at the end of the update since it is not part of the backup but is synced for the iTunes library at the end of the update.

    If the sign does not go away it has not completed the restore. So you are incorrect when you say it "keeps completing the restore" if that message is still displayed.
    Do you get an error message? If so, what is the error number?

    Same thing happened here ~ tech guy at a local authorized Apple repair store said it had something to do with improper backup from which the restore would be made. Still have a phone that asks to be connected to Itunes but won't do anything else . . . frustrated.

    v10.5.8 is as far as Mac OS X Leopard can be upgraded to.
    To run the latest version of iTunes you will need to upgrade to either v10.7 Lion or v10.8 Mountain Lion.

    Look under your Start Menu for Apple Software Update, but before doing that, check the time and date on your computer that it's correct.
    It's also saying the iTunes Library .XML file in your iTunes Folder file is new, for some reason, but your songs should be still in the iTunes Folder.
    You can move the XML file out and restart iTunes and it shoudl creat another, you lose your playlists and have to import all your music again.

    This is obviously not true.

    I don't understand why iTunes will not update my iPod's software. I don't understand why the iPod didn't come with the 2.1 version already installed. According to the download page, this version was released in 2003.
    Can anyone please explain to me why or more importantly, HOW I can get the ipod software updated when iTunes fails to do it?

    Sorry, but that firmware update is for a different model iPod, which would explain why its release date was from 2003 and not something more recent. The firmware on your 120 GB iPod is actually the most up to date version already.
