ITunes won't update - nothing, absolutely nothing happens

Everytime I bring up ITunes on my computer, it asks me if I want to update to the new version of ITunes (6.0.1 right now). I click yes EVERYTIME. Nothing happens at all. No messages. No installation screen. Nothing. The same thing happens when I go to synch my Ipod. I plug it in, itunes asks me if I want to update to the latest version of IPod software. I click yes. Again, absolutely nothing happens. I've tried disabling my Anti-virus software (McAfee) and that doesn't do anything either.
Anyone?
P.S. I've tried looking throught the different threads but aside from uninstalling and reinstalling the itunes software or (even worse) reinstalling my Windows software, I've seen no solution that makes me comfortable that I'm not going to just create another more serious problem elsewhere.

i notice that you're running McAfee. if you run into an odd problem where you can't see the download controls (there's a blank blue box on the itunes download page, for example), try:
iTunes download button isn't visible on the Download webpage

You could order the Full Retail Version of OS X (Black DVD with a silver X on it). Regarding always starting up in Open Firmware, in this thread a bloke had the same problem until he disconnected his peripherals before restarting. See if the entire thread helps:

Try downloading the apps from your phone
App store > tap updates> tap purchased> tap not on this iphone> click on the cloud with the down arrow for the app you want to download"

AlexCarey, I've been having issues purchasing recently and place a number of calls to the support team. On Oct. 5th, and on my own decision, I went into my itunes profile and re-entered my credit card expiration date and security code. (Notice, it is not displayed for safety measures.) Today, I received an email from Apple support verifying if I made changes made to my account. For the heck of it, I logged back into itunes; click "Buy". There is no iPod Touch 6. The latest generation is iPod Touch 5. Perhaps you mean you have an iPod running iOS 6.1.6. If so, you have a 4th generation iPod which cannot update past 6.1.6. A 5th generation iPod can run iOS 7

I have an ipod touch. I have been really good about keeping my itunes up to date. The last version I updated to was early this year. It keeps telling me I need to update but that it failed to update after download and that I need to manually install.
I plugged my ipod in and it asked me to update the ipod software so I did. Then it tells me that the ipod won't work unless I have the 10.0.1. But when I go to itunes and download itunes 10.0.1 it downloads but won't install and tells me I have an invalid drive F:/. I don't even have a drive F. I can't use my ipod now, I turn it on and I have the picture of the ipod being plugged into itunes. But itunes won't update. Nothing online or in any thread I have found has given me a solution. iTunes won't update or unistall. When I try, it says the installer source doesn't exist. When I tried to just reinstall it fresh, it says the old versions of Bonjour, iTunes and Quicktime can't be removed. Any solution for any of this?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeksare worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select anyiTunes, QuickTime and Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

It sounds like you've already done the things that would fix most iPhones.
You can try restoring your iPhone.
If that doesn't do it, try contacting Apple through Express Lane. They may be able to gather some aditional logs and pinpoint the exact problem.

I install CD on my PC, windows XP and after it finishes nothing happens... No icon. Nothing in program file. Nothing. I enter my serial number and answer the questions but nothing...

OK just forget the CD for now. goto apple.com disable your antivirus then download and install iTUnes from there. Next go here to install the latest iPod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Now if it still does not open scan for malware with ewido http://www.ewido.com then install the stand alone version of quicktime here http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
