Itunes won't upgrade on windows XP

I tried to go to icloud but got a message about firmware when I tried to upgrade my iphone software.  Then I tried to update itunes and nothing happened.  It wouldn't even start to upgrade.

Then I tried to update itunes and nothing happened.  It wouldn't even start to upgrade.
With that one, try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that go through any better for you?

    iTunes won't upgrade to10.5. I'm on 10.1.17.
When installing 10.5 it terminates with an error message "There is a problem with the Windows  installer package. Contact the package vendor".

Using PC Win-7 w/IE 7 (should that matter)
    Thanks much

I know there's a million threads like this, but I thought I'd record my experience.  I, too, was having the original poster's error when I tried to update iTunes on Windows XP.  I think I was stuck on 10.
I solved it by un-installing iTunes and every other Apple app.  I discovered that Apple Software Update would not un-install as its MSI file could not be found.  I used the "Windows Install Cleanup" tool from Microsoft to remove Apple Software Update from the list of installed programs.  Google "kb290301" for a Microsoft page that includes a download link for it.  After that, I was able to install a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5.2.
I'm not sure why this app's folder and MSI were missing from my computer.  I had once used Laplink PC Mover to move everything from my old computer to this one, and perhaps it missed a bit.

  • With Windows 7 Home Premium, whenever I start iTunes, I get a message that colors have been reverted to Windows Basic because iTunes won't support my Windows Aero configuration.  Is there a fix for the incompatibility?

With Windows 7 Home Premium, whenever I start iTunes, I get a message that colors have been reverted to Windows Basic because iTunes won't support my Windows Aero configuration.  Is there a fix for the incompatibility?  I don't mind the color changes, but I'm having an external speaker problem that could be related to the incompatibility (at random times--usually several hours after start-up, my external speakers--connected via my Samsung Central Station's wireless docking station and computer-installed dongle--shut off and won't play until I restart.  I've investigated other options, but iTunes may be the problem.)  Thanks.

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • Itunes won't upgrade IOS on device

Using ITunes 10.2, and Mac OS X ver 10.6.7.  I'm trying to update Iphone 4 and IPad to IOS 4.3.3 and ITunes won't upgrade the device. It download the upgrade, backs up the device, but then says, I don't have the authorization to update the device.  Sometimes if I log on as a test user, with admin rights it will allow the change, but then it wipes all the information and files on the device too.
The apple's primary account, with ITunes is what I use to sync and download new apps and stuff, it should also be able to update the IOS, any ideas why it's not letting me?

  • TS1717 iTunes won't open on Windows 7

iTunes won't open on Windows 7.
Error message says MSVCR80.dll is missing.
Re-installing iTunes over the top didn't work, it couldn't get passsed a mobile devices error. Any thoughts anyone?

    Howdy rtih,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after a recent update. I suggest the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • ITunes won't play in Windows 8.1...help!

I just updated my computer from Window's 8 to 8.1 and now iTunes won't play anything at all. I can open up the iTunes store and everything else, but once I click on a song it will show that it is playing but nothing happens. I even tried moving "QTMovieWin.dll" from  c:\program files (x86)\common files\apple\apple application support\  to  c:\program files (x86)\iTunes but nothing happened after I did that. Is there anything else that can be done to fix this problem? Thanks!

I have searched high and low for the right solution for this issue.  I'm on an HP Envy laptop, running iTunes 12, and just upgraded to Windows 8.1.
I tried the settings for bit rate as suggested above and it still didn't work, but I did solve the problem.
In iTunes I went to Preferences > Playback > Play Audio Using ... and changed the setting from "Direct Sound" to "Windows Audio Session"
Now my iTunes on my laptop works!

  • Itunes won't start & Freezes Windows Vista - Please Please Help!!

    Hey Guys,
Ever since I've upgraded to Itunes 10.1.2, my itunes won't even open. I click the icon on my desktop, I get the swirly circle for a bit, and then it stops. In the task manager, itunes.exe is listed as one of the processes, but doesn't seem to be running. I've tried EVERY solution I could find in these forums. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes about 6 times now, and I've even tried older versions. But nothing works. I've ran malware software, disabled my antivirus, and even tried to get the guys at the genius bar to help me (unfortunately they're not as well versed in PCs).
If you have any clues as to what may be going on - PLEASE Please Help me!! I'm a huge music buff, and it's been a MONTH since I last used itunes, and I would really love to have it back!
I will say this - occasionally after I reinstall itunes, a window that shows "checking music library" will pop up, but I'll wait for 45 minutes, and nothing will happen. I thought it might have to do with the fact that I have a good 100 GB of music on my external hd, but everything worked fine before.
Thank you all so SO much for your help, any input is greatly appreciated!

Really? Can no one help me?!

  • ITunes won't run - invisible window where iTunes should be, but it never launches.

I'm running Windows Vista 32 (I know, I should upgrade) and over the last few weeks, I noticed that my podcast wasn't downloading new eps.   Now, iTunes won't run at all.
I've done a full scan of the PC and there are no viruses found.   I'm using Kaspersky.
I've un-installed all Apple apps and rebooted before trying to reload iTunes and it never runs.
Anyone have any idea what might be preventing iTunes from running?
I have a Windows 7 PC on the other desk, connected through the same switch and Cable Modem and iTunes is running fine on it, so it's not network / internet related, as far as I can tell.
    Thank you,
    J

"The feature that you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to another folder containing the installation package iTunes.msi in the box below"
Let's just run through the standard procedures for that one again, just to be sure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Then use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. (Launch CleanUp, find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, and remove those entries.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?
(If any step of this procedure failed to work, explain to us as best you can what the problem was.)

  • My iPhone 4 will no longer back up in iTunes after my upgrade to Windows 7 64bit.

I used to have Windows XP 32bit and everything worked fine.
I upgraded to Windows 7 64bit and installed iTunes 64bit (I've also tried running the installer as administrator [in the compatibility properties]).
iTunes will recognise it with no problems and I can drag and drop anything I want to the iPhone, but I can't back up.
Software versions: iTunes v10.4.0.80, iPhone 4.3.5.
When I try to back up, the loading bar with either:
Have a loading bar with diagonal lines forever or,
it will start moving and freeze.
I've tried leaving the process for hours, but to no avail.
While the back up is being attempted, iTunes still retains full functionality.
I would exit by sliding the bar on my iPhone (iTunes will retain the loading bars as if frozen) and then unplug it. At this point iTunes takes a few seconds to drop the loading bar altogether, and the little screen will reset to normal functionality.
I believe this may be a iTunes-Windows thing as I did the following with my old laptop (Windows XP 32bit):
Installed iTunes for the first time.
Went into preferences and disabled the automatic backup option.
Plugged in the iPhone, right-click "back up".
The back up took less than 5 minutes.
I don't understand why my main PC can't back up my iPhone.
    Can anyone help please?
I've tried researching the same problems and I've ended up doing the following:
    Reinstalling iTunes,
Tried changing the iTunes installation folder to "Program Files" instead of "Program Files (x86)",
Deleting all contents from: "C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup",
Deleting the apps from my phone in case there are corrupt apps (doesn't make sense though as it backed up fine on my old laptop).
    I would appreciate any suggestions!
    Kind regards,
    Will

    Hi there,
I have the same issue. Usually hangs after 10K od sometimes after 18MB of backup file.
    Config: iTunes 10.4., Win 7 64bit, iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.3
I tried all of these without success:
    - deleted backups via iTunes / Preferences
    - deleted backups from sync folder
    - created a new admin user and tried to sync
    - reinstalled iTunes
    - ran all Windows updates, restarted, reinstalled iTunes
    - ran iTunes / Diagnostics (says everything okay, only info which is strange: diag says I am not a admin user, which is not correct)
Nothing helped. Who can help. I hope someone from Apple can take care, as I seem not to be the only one. Actually iTunes is the worst part about iPhone. Hope with iOS 5 and Cloud sync to get rid of iTunes.
    Any hints welcome,
    Cheers,
    Miguel-KA

  • ITunes won't start in Windows

I've used ITunes for many years. Just upgraded to 8 and suddenly ITunes won't open. It throws the error message "the Itunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location is in the ITUNES folder in the My Music folder.
The Library file was there, but it was "changed". I tried to delete that file and replace it with a backup library file in the same directory but that didn't work. I've tried to "repair" the installation and that didn't work. I've tried to remove the app and reinstall. All produce the same error message.
    Please help.

  • ITunes Won't Start In Windows 7 Ultimate

  • ITunes Won't Load on Windows 7

ITunes won't load since the last update.  I tried updating to the new beta version, and it still won't load.  I have lost my contacts on my iPhone and now I can't load iTunes.  I do have another computer running an older version of iTunes and would like to transfer my contacts file to the older computer and then sync my iPhone to that computer.  Can someone please help me with transfering my contacts file to the other computer?  It would be nice if iTunes would load on this computer, the one I use all the time but it seems this problem is not being addressed.  Do Apple personnel only address these problems if you pay them for support, or do they fix their software and help their customers?  Here is the error message I get, and as you can see, iTunes is not loading, just giving the error message:
The following program has performed an action that requires Windows to temporarily change the color scheme to Windows 7 basic.
    Program: iTunes
    Publisher: Apple Inc.
    Process Identifier (PID): 4652
Windows will automatically change the color scheme back to Windows Aero when this program or other programs performing similar actions are no longer running.
iTunes never starts after this message.  I've checked Windows Task Manager to see what programs are running.  I've tried using the iTune comaptibility option but that didn't change anything.  iTunes has always worked, now nothing.  Nothing happens when I plug in my iPhone, or when I start iTunes.  I just want my contacts, that's all!!!  I had always thought I was safe because I always backed up my phone -- boy was i wrong.

It doesn't do anything, and QuickTime doesn't do anything either.
many thanks. In recent times, the error-message-free launch failures of both iTunes and QuickTime have often been indicating that some application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes won't launch in Windows 8

Recently bought a new laptop which came with Windows 8. I cannot get iTunes 11 to launch in Windows 8. Whenever I launch it, I simply get a completely white screen and Windows Task Manager reports it as "Not Responding." I have attempted to "Repair" the installation, uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes multiple times (I've also tried running Apple Software Update as well).
On a somewhat related note, Quicktime won't launch either. I can double-click the icon on the desktop as much as I want, but the program simply won't launch, at all. Windows Task Manager doesn't even display it as an active process.

If you are still having this problem, Sony Singh posted this fix in another conversation, and it worked!  I have the same Windows 8.1 and iTunes version you have and had the same problem.  This totally fixed it.
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
Simple, huh?  Just reboot after youo copy and paste the above file.

  • ITunes won't load after windows update

Just did the latest automatic backup in Windows 7, and noe iTunes won't load. It keeps "checking" my library then I get a Windows message that iTunes is shutting down.

  • ITunes won't load on Windows 7 after the last update

iTunes won't load on my Windows 7 machine after the last update. There is no error, but the window opens and says "Checking iTunes library" for a while, and then pops up iTunes. When it comes up, I can see it but it won't load or let me interact with it. The window I can see is my podcast library and it suggests it's accessing the iTunes Store. Right clicking, alt-tabbing seem to have no effect, and I can only shut it down in Task Manager. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck (...twice). Any other ideas?
