  • Mac pro usb ports won't work when ipod is plugged in

I just bought a used Mac Pro (2008). 8 cores, 12 meg 0f ram, all of this so I wouldnt be limited as I was with my 4 meg Imac. I go to plug in my ipod, and none of the other ports work, I can't use the mouse or keyboard. Is there any way around this. I had to plug the ipod directly into the tower (the port wouldnt work) This is frustrating, I get this model to be more than capable for what I need, and something like this pops up...always something. If anyone out there has had this experience, and figured out a work around, please help. Thanks

okay, that doesn't sound usual. Sounds to me like the usb port is drawing too much power. Try doing a repair permission or SMC reset. If you are using it with a USB hub, maybe that needs plugging in to the wall, or maybe it has gone bad. I can't help you a lot, but just a little bit. repairing permissions is through Disk Utility. SMC goes like this:  shut down the Mac pro, unplug the power cord,  wait 15-20 seconds. reattach power cord, wait about 15 seconds, then press power button. you can maybe try resetting the PRAM-shut down Mac, turn on computer, hold down Command, Option,P and R keys before grey screen appears. Hold down until computer restarts again and you hear the 2nd startup sound. Let go of the keys.  You can also check in "About this mac" (more info) to see if there's something wrong with the USB ports themselves.
Other than that, could be logic board battery. Maybe Archive and install. Sorry, the crystal ball has gone dark. I"m sure someone else can enlighten you more than I can.  I always plugged my ipod directly into my tower via the front USB port...

  • HT201263 When I plug my ipod into my computer (since i've downloaded itunes 11) itunes won't acknowledge my ipod is plugged in

It makes an odd sound and then just doesn't acknowledge that my ipod is plugged in!

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
    Then try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • ITunes won't open when iPod is connected

    Hello,
I tried syncing my 3rd Generation Ipod Nano like I always do, via a dock connector and my laptop. But when I plugged it in it at first wasn't being recognized by iTunes (10), so I closed the program to see if a reboot of the program would solve the problem, and now iTunes just won't open while my iPod is plugged in to my laptop! Once I unplug though, iTunes pops back up!!
More information: It looks like my laptop may not be recognizing the USB Port that I plugged my dock connector in to. I don't get that symbol in the Notification Area that something is plugged in to a USB Port. I've tried other ones though, same problem.
I've also had to unplug my iPod from the connector without ejecting it (as iTunes wasn't recognizing the device, so I couldn't) will this damage my iPod?

  • ITunes Won't Open When Ipod Touch is Connected

This issue randomly started happening with iTunes 8 about a week ago. If I connect my iTouch to my computer, iTunes will load in the task manager, but not on my desktop. This also happens if I check "automatically open iTunes when iPod is connected"'
The strange thing is- if I open iTunes BEFORE connecting my ipod, and then connecting it after, everything works fine.
I've confirmed that all the additional programs are running in the task manager (iTuneshelper, exe, etc) when I connected the ipod before opening itunes. I've also tried reinstalling all Apple programs (iTunes, Quicktime, etc), and resetting the settings on my iTouch, but nothing works.
Any ideas, and thanks for your help.

FWIW i get this now and then on my winblows 'puter and just chalk it up to that. I've flushed caches and queues and rebooted and all that who-ha and quite frankly when it locks up it ticks me off to no end ('cuz it SHOULDNT do that) but i have a cold one and figure they have kindergartners doing the system programming nowadays and go from there.

  • ITunes won't launch when iPod/iPad connected

going nuts! My iTunes will not launch when i connect my ipod or ipad. the setting to allow this is greyed out as is the option 'sync only ticked itmes'. I have uninstalled and installed iTunes several times. Changed as many settings as I can and back again. iMatch is on but that is causing me no end of grief too. Tried turning it off but that makes not difference. I can't copy a play list to ipod as it says iMatch is turned on on the iPod - it isn't!

Is the conmpouter authoris for the iTuens account?
Did you sync with this computer the last time?

  • ITunes won't work on iPod Touch.

I'm having troubles accessing iTunes via my iPod Touch. When I select it on the home page, it opens, then loads for 3 or 4 seconds, and then the screen goes black for a second and it returns to the homepage. I've tried restarting the iPod, but it doesn't help at all.
    Any input is most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Assumng that your problem is that iTunes does not see the iPod try:

If that is not the problem please provide additional information.

  • Itunes won't work when i connect my ipod

my itunes works fine, but once my ipod is connected, a popup saying theres an error and then itunes just closes. i tried reformating my ipod and it works, but once i start transfering my itunes library to my ipod the error popups again.

  • ITunes won't open when iPod is docked

Independently, both my iTunes and my iPod work fine. I always leave my iPod docked so it will stay charged, but when I click to open iTunes, the icon in the dock just bounces ; it never opens. If I pull the iPod out of the dock (even though it says Do Not Disconnect), iTunes opens fine. Then, I stick the iPod back in the dock, iTunes sees it, and immediately goes into iPod update. So, not a terrible problem, but how come I can no longer open iTunes while it's docked? I am afraid that one of these days, pulling the iPod out of the dock without unmounting it is gonna crash it.
    Any thoughts??
    Ben

    I have the same issue!!!
I have iTunes 6 and the latest software on my 3G iPod. I thought it was the iPod, so I completely formatted it in Disk Utility then restored it with a fresh copy of the iPod software. Once that was done, I auto-syned back into iTunes.
The same thing still happens. If the iPod is docked for only a minute or two I can update it in iTunes but after that, iTunes looks like it's updating but the thing never mounts. This is also the case when opening iTunes. I pull out the iPod and redocking gets it to work.
There is something going on with the newer versions of iTunes and the 3G iPods.

  • Itunes won't work when I double click on my desk top and it won't update.

I'm having major problems with Itunes. As I stated in my title, I can't open Itunes on the desktop. I get this error message when I try. "This action only valid with products installed." However, it will open up when I connect my IPOD or click on something for it to play. I cannot also go to my files manually on my ipod. It will just sync them up with whatever is new.
When I have tried to update it, or reinstall it, I get this message: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." It tells me to "Click OK to try again, or alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Itunes.msi' in the box below"
I have tried to uninstall ITUNES, but, when I do, I get the error message that I get when I try to update or install itunes.
    Can anybody help me?

My won't either. This started with me when I installed the update. I get the message that the file itunes.msi cannot be found. I have even tried to re-install from my original disc and it still cannot find itunes.msi. I have ran the 'find' procedure and my computer cannot find the file. I don't know how to get the file since I have tried installing from the original disc.

  • ITunes won't work with iPod despite several attempts

    Hello everybody
I have a tricky problem with iTunes. I have used it and iPod nano for couple of years flawlessy, but now iTunes 8.2.1 throws a following error message (when connecting iPod to usb-port):
"The software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly."
    "Please reinstall iTunes."
Then I surfed to Apple-homesite and did as two support article said:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano/
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363
But the same problem still bothers. I have tried even with older iTunes (6 and 7), but same error appears. Could my iPod be broken? It is weird, that Windows XP will found iPod normally and shows it as removable harddisk in My Computer.
The iPod is out of warranty (due to it age), so I quess Apple won't care about problems anymore.

Problem solved. The harddisk was formatted and Windows and iTunes re-installed. Hopefully this problem won't appear very soon.

There is a hardware problem.  Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.

  • Opening iTunes when iPod is plugged in

iTunes won't start when I plug in the iPod nano to the computer. When i go to manualy open iTunes a message appears saying: "another user on this computer is using the iPod softwear, so iTunes is unable to communicate with this iPod. Please ask the other user to log out". I can use iTunes after this message appears but I cannot load songs onto the iPod, the little picture of the iPod isn't there. I'm the only one on this computer who even has an iPod or software open. What can I do to change this from happening?

    Hello carolinous,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There may be something in this article that may help:
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes
Hmmm... maybe you should try this first:
    \Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
Then restart the ipod service under your name.

  • IPod, iTunes won't work with each other

I have spent the last 2 days trying to update my "new" nano. The first few times I synced it up no problem. Now that I've spent a small fortune on new music, the nano and iTunes won't work together at all.
First, I have the most up-to-date version of iTunes. Next, I had the software update 1.1.3 for the nano all ready to go when I plugged it in. I hit the install new software button and dear god, if the nano didn't crap out and iTunes lost it and gave me a 1436 error. I had to disconnect the nano and reconnect. I tried several times, but finally gave up on updating the software.
I went on to try to sync the nano and iTunes so I could at least listen to my music at work, but iTunes now says I'm not authorized to play ANY of my purchased music (recently purchased or stuff I've had on there for years) on my computer so it won't copy it onto my nano. So I deauthorize and reauthorize my computer several times, I've read every possible troubleshooting/solution guide I can find on the site and NOTHING works. I can play all my purchased music in iTunes once I've reauthorized my computer, but as soon as I plug my nano in - forget about it - "You are not authorized to play this music on this computer" crap. And I can't even restore the nano b/c I get that stupid 1436 error - and believe me I tried everything those help pages suggest.
I'm at a loss here and not in the least bit happy with this thing.

Problem solved. The harddisk was formatted and Windows and iTunes re-installed. Hopefully this problem won't appear very soon.
