"the ipod 'x's ipod' cannot be updated. the disk could not be read from or written to."
hmmm grrrr thanks for trying to help me tho!! any other ideas would be appreciated!

  • Itunes won't sync ipod after initial sync

Running windows XP SP3, Itunes 9.1.1.12, IPod Clasic 80 GB about 3.5 years old.
When I plug in my ipod, itunes starts up and syncs. But any subsequent attempts to sync or turn on disk mode fail with the following error "The iPod PJ's IPod cannot be synced. The required disk could not be found". The ipod back light would usually come back on and the big red "do not disconnect" will usually display, that doesn't happen on the subsequent attempts either. All attempts to Enable disk use fail with this error as well. I can disk connect and re-connect to get Ipod to sync again.
    Anyone with any ideas?

  • I just downloaded the new version of iTunes and my iPod won't sync?

I just downloaded the new version of iTunes and my iPod won't sync?

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Went iTunes 7 to iTunes 6, now iPod can't sync

How do I get around this problem? Can I restore the iPod's firmware without going through iTunes 7 again?
I updated iTunes to 7 (big mistake) and iPod firmware as well earlier today, but now I've gotten rid of the problematic iTunes 7 the iPod won't sync with iTunes 6.

"Can I restore the iPod's firmware without going through iTunes 7 again?"
Not unless you have an older updater stored on your computer somewhere (usually in the applications/utilities folder).
There are no standalone updaters now, the latest is included in iTunes 7.

  • Trouble syncing iPod after initial connection

We just purchased a 5th gen iPod, and we're having some trouble getting it to sync with our Mac mini Core Duo. When we connect it via the included USB cable, it will appear on the desktop, trigger iTunes to start up, and perform a sync. However, the problem arises if we try to manually sync the iPod again after that first sync. When I go into iTunes and right click on the iPod and select "Update iPod", iTunes hangs for a minute with no indication that the iPod is syncing. If I try to right click on the iPod and select "Options", I am able to choose different options, but after clicking "OK", iTunes hangs for a minute and then reports "Preferences were not safed for the iPod "xxxxxx" because it could not be found." Basically, it seems like after that first sync, the iPod disconnects and will not reconnect.
    Additional notes:
    * I have tried the "Five R's", although the "Reinstall" part did not work - when I tried to run the iTunes installer, it told me there was "nothing to install". Presumably because I already have the latest version of everything.
    * I did put the iPod into diagnostic mode, and it passed all tests successfully.
    * Even when the iPod fails to sync, it does continue to charge... so it appears that the connection is at least working somewhat.
    * If I set the iPod into Disk Mode, it seems to work fine. However, to do this, I either have to use the key combination to force it into Disk Mode, or REALLY QUICKLY set up the options to do so while it is performing its initial sync after being connected. As I said before, after the initial sync happens, and the iPod disconnects, I can't save any of the options.
    * When I connect my 4th Gen iPod via the 5th Gen iPod's USB cable, it exhibits the exact same symptoms as the 5th Gen iPod. That leads me to believe the problem is not in the iPod itself, but possibly in the cable, the mini's USB port, or in the software. I have tried plugging in to all four USB ports on the mini with the same results. The 4th Gen iPod works fine when plugged in via FireWire. And of course the 5th Gen doesn't support FireWire, so I can't try that.
    Any suggestions?
Mac mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2gb RAM

You're not alone. I have the exact same problem as
you. I had a 3G iPod before and it worked perfectly.
I'm glad to hear that someone else is having this problem. I'm totally baffled as to what the issue could be. I'm going to list every place I think there could possibly be a problem, and any steps I've taken to rule it out:
    1. Hardware problem inside the 5th gen iPod.
    - I have run all of the self-diagnostics, and they passed with flying colors. The iPod plays back music, photos, and video just fine. Also, I have the same problem with the 4th gen iPod, when it is hooked up via USB2. The 4th gen works fine when hooked up via FireWire.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    2. Hardware problem with my USB cable.
    - I took my iPod to the Apple Store and hooked it up using their USB cable, and experienced the same problem. Also, the iPod charges normally in any case, and it syncs over my USB cable just fine if it's in disk mode.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    3. Hardware problem with a USB port on my Mac mini.
    - As noted in #2, I took my iPod to the Apple Store and hooked it up to one of their Mac minis, and it had the same problem. Also, I plugged the iPod into all of the ports on my Mac mini and got the same results with all of them. All of my other peripherals work fine on all of the USB ports (printer, card reader, camera, mouse, keyboard).
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    4. Hardware problem on my Mac mini other than the USB port.
    - As noted in #3, I had the same problem when I hooked my iPod up to the Mac mini in the Apple Store. Also, I have run the Apple Hardware Diagnostics CD on my Mac mini and it did not come up with any problems.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    5. Problem with the iTunes software on my Mac mini.
    - As noted earlier, I experienced the same problem when hooking up with the Apple Store's Mac mini. Also, my 4th gen iPod works just fine when connected via FireWire.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    6. Problem with the Mac OS X software on my Mac mini.
    - As noted earlier, I had the same problem on the Apple Store's mini.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    7. Problem with the Firmware on my iPod.
    - I had updated my iPod to firmware 1.1.1, but even after downgrading it to 1.1, I had the same problem. And I'm having the problem on my 4th Gen iPod when it is hooked up via USB, and it has a totally different firmware.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
    8. Problem with the iTunes music library on my Mac mini.
    - I reset the iPod using the iPod Updater, wiping out all of its data. I then created a fresh user on Mac OS X, logged in to it, and connected the iPod. That user had no iTunes library at all, so other than the preferences, no data was being synced to the iPod, and I STILL had the same issue.
    - Conclusion: not the problem.
Ok, so all of those are not the problem. So what could the problem be? Well, let's try a few theories:
Theory A. This is a problem that affects all Mac mini Core Duo users who are syncing iPods over USB2.
    - If this was true, wouldn't we be hearing a lot more complaints? I suppose if most of the users had their iPods set to disk mode, then they would never notice the problem.
Theory B. Um... I don't have any other theories.
I've thought about taking the iPod back and swapping it for a new unit, but based on all of the troubleshooting I've done, I don't see how that could make any difference, since I'm experiencing the same problem with my 4th gen iPod.
Anyone want to take a stab at it?

As long as all of the data on the iPod is also in iTunes, see if you can restore the iPod.

  • How to sync additional items after initial sync?

With my new 8GB iPod Touch I synced a few items and now wish to sync more. In order to do this I connected my Touch to my iMac and opened iTunes. According to the Touch User Guide (page 10) I am supposed to select iPod Touch in the sidebar. However, no iPod Touch in a sidebar is apparent anywhere. What gives? Please advise procedure I should follow to resolve this issue and continue on to sync more items that on my iMac to my Touch.
    Bob

    Stedman,
Right on! You are Kee-rect! Right after I made my last post things started to click, and I began to realize that whoever wrote the iPod Touch User Guide should have been more definitive in his instructions! Because of that I was looking for the iPod Touch in the sidebar of the iTunes program on my Touch instead of in the sidebar of the iTunes program on my iMac.
I'll likely run into a few more hurdles before absorbing the contents of this challenging 169 page User's Guide!
Thanks for responding. I'm nominating you to write the next User's Guide!

  • Itunes says 'the ipod cannot be synced A duplicate file name was specified?

it says this - 'the ipod cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified' every time i plug in my ipod, i have not downloaded a new itunes recently, nor do I have a new ipod, this came from completely out of the blue.

The solution i found to this problem is have windows hard drive recovery tool scan and repair the hard drive on you ipod. To do this, you need to configure itunes so it does not open when you plug in you ipod. Next, plug in your ipod, for windows 7 user a pop up should come up asking to scan and fix device. click yes and give it some time. after the tool in complete unplug you ipod, open itunes, plug your ipod in. if you still get the message, click restore, and start this process on more time. If you do not have windows seven or this pop-up does not appear manually go to you hard recover tool and have it scan your ipod. then follow the rest of the process.

What is status of the iPod?
If it recognized the iPod before try:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes and my iPod are not syncing

I'm having a few problems with iTunes and my iPod right now. I have the Classic 160GB if that makes any difference.
The laptop my original iTunes library was on died. I tried transferring all the songs off my iPod to the new computer. When I transferred only the purchased songs are showing in the library. The songs I uploaded from CDs are only showing on my iPod.
       2.  I purchased several songs about 2 weeks ago and they will not sync to my iPod; they are only showing in the library. Which leads me into my 3rd problem.
       3.  For some reason, the sync songs manually option is checked, and when I uncheck it I get a message that says if I continue the contents on my iPod will           be replaced with the current contents of the library. (I don't not want this to happen.) Also, when I go to the summary of my iPod and click the music tab             and try to sync that way, I get the same message about replacing contents with current library.
Thanks to anyone that can provide any help!

is your other computer still operational?if it is,do you have a wirless internet connection,or just a modem?

  • Outlook 2010 will not sync with iCloud after initial sync

Hi guys, the basic summary is that after upgrading from a mobile me account to icloud (using a me.com account), I was able to sync everything from Outlook to the customer's iPhone but anything created after that would not sync. I tried creating a contact, calendar item, and other calendar items, none of which showed up either way (outlook to phone and vice versa).
Here are all the details that may be needed to assist with this question (and thank you!)
The account was upgraded from mobileme to iCloud, then outlook was upgraded from 2003 to 2010.
OS is Windows 7 64 bit
Outlook has 2 data files which hold all the contacts/calendars/tasks.
I had to add the me.com email to outlook so that it would perform the initial sync.
After the initial sync, all calendars, contacts, etc were moved to deleted items (which I think may be normal). I just moved them back to one of the pst files.
At this point, creating an item in any calendar, or creating a contact does not result in that contact/calendar entry showing up on the iphone (or vice versa).
Outlook does not show "icloud" calendar, only the calendars I previously created, but the iPhone says "All iCloud Calendars" and they list the calendars that we created in outlook.
Customer says it synced fine when he used mobile me back in the day, and then it stopped so we had to upgrade to iCloud. Any ideas? =/ I spent over an hour trying to figure this one out, even had some brief apple tech help.
Thank you SO much for your help. I'd LOVE to be able to get this fixed, otherwise I need to start looking into alternatives for syncing iphone with outlook 2010
