Itunes wont detect IOS 5 software update for ipad 2
Hey all,
I am trying to update my ipad to the new IOS 5 software update. However - after i have synced my update and click 'check for update' it states 'This version of the iPad software (4.3.5) is the current version.'
It seems that my itunes does not recognise the new update on the server.
Ipad 2 - 16 gb
mac book air - all to date running on latest operating system
Now downloading it. SHame i wasn't more patient LOL. Although it is rather slow now. Getting around 200 /300Kbps but i can live with that. Thanks JYJr, PogoPossum

IOS 5 update for iPad 2 not working?? HELP!
I have been attempting to do the iOS 5 update for my iPad 2 for the past couple of weeks. Every single time I try and update it, it will be almost complete and then say network connection error. I thought maybe my internet was not working properly but have tried at a few other places with a different wi-fi conncection. I even did it at someones house where they succesfully updated their iPhone. Am i doing something wrong, or is there something wrong with my iPad?? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
iOS 5 is not worth the headaches you're going to get with your iPhone and/or your iPad. It is a terribly "buggy" opearting system right now. It causes all sorts of problems with your devices. I'm sure Apple is aware of the problems, and will release a "release" to correct their previous "release". I'm thinking of going back to iOS 4. My phone was faster, apps didn't crash, don't care about being able to edit pictures in the camera, since I have tons of photo apps that have better editing options than the iPhone camera. The reminders pulldown is pretty much useless, and I forget it's even there.

Try and force your iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times. -
IOS 5 update for iPad 2 but locks up performing a backup
ITunes updated fine, downloaded iOS 5 software ready for update.
Already backed up iPad, all 27gb of files and apps.
Tried running update, but get as far as backup ticker and it appears to lock up.
Let it run for 2 hours tonight, but ticker didn't move more than 1cm.
The iPad displays Sync.
I'm stuck now. I have no error message, so I don't know where to turn to.
I've trawled the web & forums, but I can't find anyone with an identical problem.
All help greatly appreciated.I've got the same problem!! I'm using iTunes 10.5 which loaded great, and I connected my iPhone 4, and it told me to update to iOS 5, which I did. It downloaded the iOS and told me not to cancel it and it can take up to an hour so don't worry... well its been 3 hours now as of this post where I am at is as follows:
1. At the top it says "Downloading one item" iPhone Software Update (processing file)
2. My iPhone 4 shows it as "sync in progress"
3. There is a popup that says Backing up iPhone, and the progress bar is just barely green, about 1 cm also
4. I have a dual core computer and both of the cores are maxed out at 100%, however the HDD light doesn't flash
I don't want to cancel it, but I have a feeling that it's frozen and there isn't going to be a fix! I'm going to let it run for the rest of the night...but after reading some other peoples problems i'm not holding my breath for resolution tomorrow morning! -
I have the latest software 7.0.4, when is a new update going to come out? My iPad Air keeps crashing and I did all the resets, resets from computer etc, I even had it swapped out at a store and same thing it's constantly crashing. I don't even have much on on iPad. I heard many iPad Airs are doing the same thing, what gives?I had the same problem. In the end I downloaded it manually. Here's the steps assuming you are on a Mac and have an iPad Air (Wifi). If not you can find other restore links here.
In the terminal (it kept failing to download in Safari):

Once the file has downloaded, move it to ~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates/
Quit and relaunch iTunes.
Should now work for you. -
PLEASE suggest what I shall do with my IPad like, shall I dowgrade my IPad so it works properly? or try to find a iOS 6 or 7 upgrade from a different website
The apple approved updates for an iPad 1 max out at 5.1.1. If you find a way to put iOS6 or 7 on there you'll be jailbraking it, which means Apple washes their hands of your device.
unfortunately, software moves faster than hardware. You will likely find, if you manage to hack your device and put 6 or 7 on it that you'll end up with a non functioning brick. Apple doesn't put iOS6 on the iPad one because the one simply lacks the power to run the newer operating system. -
How to cancel the ios air update for iPad 2?
I started to update my iPad 2 over the air from ios 5.1 but I forget to make a backup “my iPad was jail broken”.
After the bar loaded I realized that I forget to take a backup so I tried to cancel but unfortunately the “connect to iTunes screen” appears but I don’t want to continue I want to cancel to take a backup, and then I could complete or reinstall the update again

Worst ios 6 update for Ipad or iphone for Indian Users.
I am highly disappointed by the Apple IOS 6 update. We cannot use maps as the directions are not available for us. I am sure the sale of Iphone or Ipad will hit very badly in India if the maps are not updated to be used for Indian user. The maps are only user friendly for US, Europe or some Asian countries. I can gaurantee that the amount of Iphones bought in India is very huge and I am sure Apple would not like to loose it to Samsung.

The problem is that im getting an error saying time out!!! and when i start downloading again it starts from zero!!
Their alternative option is for you to bring it into the store
You could google and look for some download helpers (presuming they still exist, haven't used them in years) but they're freeware or adware that caches your download to help you recover from timeouts.
the timeout is possibly caused by your ISP, if they regularly cycle routers or the such it 'burps' your connection causeing it to cut out.
You might try taking your laptop to your local library which may have wifi. Or, as the others have suggested, a friend's house with cable internet. -

I am not able to use previous apps on my iPod touch 2nd generation or even install new apps cause of this issue. I find it very messed up that Apple is inputting these restrictions, because they want people to buy the latest versions of their gadgets. Not everyone finds it necessary to buy every new version of every technology or even have the money to do so. It is just really disappointing...
There is nothing unusual about this at all.
As with any tv, computer, dvd player, car,etc the older hardware is simply not capable of running the latest software.
This is normal.
