A couple questions first
(1) What version of iTunes or Quicktime were you installing over?
(2) If you go to C:\Program Files\Quicktime and right click on qttask.exe. Go to the version tab. What version does it say that it is?
(3) Go to Windows Start menu -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Quicktime. And tell me what version of Quicktime it says there.
(4) Did the installer ask you to reboot and you didn't?
The fix for this is to uninstall Quicktime and rerun the iTunes installer. Instructions for that is here:

You connect your iPhone to iTunes through the Sync Process...

  • Tried to update now wont wont even come on

Ok so last night I tried to update to OS4 or whatever and now my iphone wont even come on. I think I'm stuck in DFU mode and when I plug it into my computer it says this phone must be restored to be recognized. I restore it and then some error message comes up and the phone will not restore. Then I tried downloading an earlier firmware and the same thing happens. What the heck do i do to get my freaking phone to work?

What happens when you connect it to your computer and try to use iTunes to restore it?

  • ITUNES WONT OPEN COMES UP WITH ERROR MESSAGE

ITUNES WONT OPEN COMES UP WITH ERROR MESSAGE (send error report one)

some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • Itunes wont even open. Double click = hour glass spin then nothing..

I'm having a problem with itunes8. When I doubleclick on the desktop icon, or access itunes from any shortcut or the direct EXE the mouse cursor turns into the hourglas for about 3-5 seconds, goes back to normal cursor, then nothing happens. itunes wont even pop up. I get no error messages, and I DONT get the BSOD like most are reporting problems getting. I get NOTHING at all.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled with the newer updated itunes8 installer and that still will not work. I also had itunes 7.7 downloaded from the other week before 8 was released, it does the same thing. It wont run either..
I was on the line with tech support last night (iphone tech, not itunes tech; they were closed) and we tried removing ALL startup items, installing, ect and it still did not work.
Does anyone have any idea whats up?

    Yes, I've tried that guide..
I spent 3 hours with tech support over the last few days and they have no idea what it could be
    I've also:
disabled firewalls completely PLUS adding all Apple applications to exception list just in case
done COMPLETE uninstall of ALL apple products plus used microsoft install cleaner then reinstalling
tried booting up with NO startup items whatsoever and no services except microsoft services
Installed quick time separately first, then itunes
    tried installing itunes 7.7
I thought MAYBE it was because I'm running a custom version of XP (Bariski edition) so I installed itunes 8 on my other computer which is running the plain old XP SP2 from MS and it actually did the exact same thing. It "pretended" (as i like to say) to load itunes then never popped up.

Let's first try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • After Downloading 10.4..my itunes wont even open on my computer..anyone know the solution to this?

After downloading 10.4 my itunes wont even open on my computer..we have tried different things to see if it will open, downloaded it again..and still it wont open.

try running as administrator -- a temp solution for me anyway.  Waiting for apple to fix whatever this is.   At least one other poster here had same problem and "solution" worked for him as well.

Try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

  • I have a white screen and i tried rebooting the ipod touch by holding the home and sleep button simoltaneously but it still jus tappears white. i also attempted to connect my ipod to itunes but my itunes wont even recognize my ipod touch 4g

i have a white screen and i tried rebooting the ipod touch by holding the home and sleep button simoltaneously but it still jus tappears white. i also attempted to connect my ipod to itunes but my itunes wont even recognize my ipod touch 4g. What should I do now?

Just let the battery drain until the screen shuts off. When you charge it back up it should boot up normally.

  • Itunes wont even start up

I finally fixed the installer error for itunes 5.1 and now it wont even start up can anybody help me out!!!!

Looks like I might have found the solution on a youtube comment:
    R.O:
"Plug into you laptop first, whichever set up you use that has iTunes, i know it won't read it, don't even open iTunes as of yet. Do the typical reboot "Menu +Center button at the same time" and hold it, DONT LET IT GO like we were told, when the apple pops up.. KEEP HOLDING IT it will make a new ding sound I've never heard before. and since its hooked to you laptop already an error message pops up and says apple will need to download something to repair your iPod. I when u see that that when i let reboot buttons go. hit ok on the laptop something downloads for like 20 seconds then the iTunes icon hops around when you open it it has a screen with an iPod classic on it and says "Software version blah blah, iTunes will check for an update on such n such date" AND FINALLY there's a "Restore" button. click that and you will be back to square one with your iPod. Renaming , adding all the music on it, but it will work again, finally. "
I had to do it twice, because my mac froze the first time, but its recognized it now and is downloading the software as we speak...
Now I've clicked the restore button and it's restoring... I'll post again if its a success, otherwise assume failure.

  • HT1212 kids locked iphone and cant figure out password and im not able to reset phone... top button broken and itunes wont even connect to phone because its locked..... what do i do???

How to reset iphone thats locked and top button broken that itunes wont reset because i cant unlock phone??

you make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store and pay them to get your phone serviced. Then you can restore the replacement phone from your backup.

  • ITunes error-wont even come up

When i click on the iTunes shortcut, an error occurs saying "This action is only for valid products that are currently installed." Before that, i had downloaded version 7.6.2 and bought about 15 songs. After i bought them, i closed iTunes out. Oops! I forgot to transfer them to my iPod (nano, first generation). So i tried to pull iTunes back up, and the error occured. So i tried to download 7.6.2 again and i got 2 options, Repair and remove. I clicked repair to repair damaged or missing files. After that was done, the same problem came up. Should i delete iTunes and start over?

Try and use Microsoft's Cleanup Utility and then reinstall Quicktime/iTunes:

Make sure it's a new and fresh download from:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
