Itunes wont install update recent upgrade

Hi there.
Upon purchasing my ipod photo, I installed itunes from the CD. Then upgraded to version 6.0.1.3. For many months the itunes ran smoothly, and trouble free.
Yesterday I downloaded 6.0.4.2. Virus scanned the .exe file and installed the update. Errors were recreated during the installation, resulting in the standard windows error occurring before installation was complete.
Therefore I unstalled the update, and restalled update again - still no good.
I assumpted the update was corrupted upon download, so i re-downloaded the file again, and install the file, with the same problem occurring again.
I have also tried installed the older version 6.0.1.3. Installation now fails with the old version which use to work beforehand.
Upon installing the orginal CD software, the error still occurs.
I have unstalled, both quicktime, and the ipod with itunes in an attempted to solve this problem. I'm stoked.
Please help. Remember I'm running XP64 pro.

hmmmm. that's not the classic error message i expect in this context. but we'd better still check on the x64/Windows-Update-KB908531/QT issue. for some more information on troubleshooting that one see the following thread:

  • Itunes wont install update to 7.4.3

    hello
I am a vista user and i recently tried to install the update for itunes to 7.4.3, my girlfriend got the new ipod nano and she uses my computer to get her music. when i tried to install though it got through close to the very end and then an error message pops up and tells me
    {an error occured while attempting to create the directory: C:/Users/User/AppData}
it then gives me an option to "retry" or "cancel". retry does nothing the message just continually pops up and when cancelled the install stops and undoes all file writing.
the problem has become even more extensive since in my naivete i uninstalled itunes and quicktime altogether and attempted to reinstall instead of just updating (quiktime has the same error) and with my luck the still dont install and now i dont have itunes and cannot put music onto my iPod.
the only thing i can think is the fact that the directory it is attempting to create is a hidden folder that already exists so it shouldnt be trying to create it... does anyone have a solution or has had the same problem with the new itunes update?

How did you solve this error??
    i have the same problem

  • Itunes wont install/update

I have tried three times to update itunes to the lates version, all three times it crashes my computer.
So I deleted itunes and tried to insatll it from scratch, again it crashed my computer.
I downloads just fine, then gets to install and just sits there, while that is happening I lose
the control of my mouse, it wont move and the left and right click wont work.
I am using windows XP service back 3, this is the first time this has happened while I tried to update.
I use AVG anti-virus so i tured its active protection off, but still nothing.
I'm not sure what else to try.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

itunes wont install, runtime error R6034 also 'apple mobile device' wont start! help!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

HELP!! Itunes wont install on Windows 7.  I get an error msg. there is a problem with this windows installer package. A program required to install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor. WHAT NOW?

Ok, Below is what worked for me somewhat.
Okay ... try downloading and saving a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe to your PC from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now download a trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.php
Open the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR, and try to run the standalone install of Apple Application Support from the AppleApplicationSupport.msi you find in there.
It works now BUT there are still problems.  It is not allowing or recognizing my Cd/DVD player and i CANT burn.  Looking still for this fix.

  • Itunes wont install on my laptop?

itunes wont install on my windows 7 (64 bit) laptop i have tried about a 100 times and not working

That's a rarer variation on this sort of problem.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

reboot your computer. open your task manager to the processes tab. now try to launch itunes again.
b if you see an itunes.exe appear there, and persist in your task manager, try

Which particular .msi file (or files) does the message (or messages) go on to say cannot be found? (Several different .msi files might be mentioned in this context: itunes.msi, bonjour.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, etc.)
