Even though you're getting a different error message, try heading into the iTunes compatibility tab, as per the following document. (Make sure that none of the boxes in there are checked ... having any box in there checked, not just the compatibility mode box itself, can cause problems.)
iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode
Does that help with the iTunes launch?

Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iPhone forums. When you repost, you'll need to provide more detail about your problem before anyone can offer suggestions.

Interesting. I think an iTunes version 10.5.x ought to be able to launch without having a QuickTime.qts on the system. So the problem report might be lying to us in this instance.
It might be best to swing into general principles mode and try working through the following document:

    Hello sazybaby,
I found a couple of articles that might help with the issue you are experiencing with the iTunes Store.
If you are getting a white screen when accessing the iTunes Store, I recommend reviewing this article:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store

If you are still not able to access the store or are getting a different error than just a white screen, I recommend the following article:

  • Itunes wont load unexpected error (13014)

Hi, I have an issue with itunes not loading. The problem started when I connected my iphone to the USB port then Itunes froze. I had to go onto task manager to end the program...and from then on itunes will not start.
I have restored to an earlier system checkpoint.
I followed the apple tech support for library, preferences file, start-up and services on msconfig etc.
I created a new user acc on my pc and double clicked itunes and hey presto it works.
I have logged off and back to the admin acc. Itunes has worked no probs with my firewall and anti virus. I am in the belief now I will have to completely uninstall / reinstall...any ideas before I do this?
BTW went onto add/remove programs, itunes, change, reinstall damaged etc...still no joy

I am in the belief now I will have to completely uninstall / reinstall...any ideas before I do this?
No, best not. If iTunes had not launched in the new user account, then the uninstall/reinstall would have been one of the first things to try. But the experience in the other user account suggests you've got a different problem than an issue with program files. Instead, I'd start work through the user-specific troubleshooting section of the following document:
iTunes for Windows XP: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues

  • My itunes wont open ! No error message

My itunes wont open ! When I click on the icon nothing opens, not even an error message. Iv tried opening it from Windows Task Manager > Processes > Itunes.exe but nothing seems to work ! Itunes doesnt open when I sync my iphone either ! Please help

    Hi b,
I think I'm having the same problem as Vanessa (and a lot of others from the sound of it). When I click on my iTunes shortcut the hourglass pops up for a second and then nothing happens. I can't access the music store from the net either (I get a message that says "Loading... Please wait" and then nothing happens). I've turned off my firewall (Norton Personal Firewall 2003)and that didn't help. I tried Lorraine's fix with installing the files in Norton one by one and telling them to be permitted and that didn't work. I also tried a stand alone installation of Quicktime and that helped some (the quickTime player window does now pop up for a split second before disappearing when I click Quicktime) but I still can't access the music store. I thought I'd try your suggestion of looking in the task manager for my itunes.exe file but I can't find the task manager. Where is it?
