  • ITunes wont run due to Data Execution Prevention in Vista. Please help.

After trying to reinstall iTunes because I could not transfer a Word file to iTunes it will not now run.

Can you do the repair for iTunes as well and see whether you are still getting the message.
If that does not work, you have to follow steps below to uninstall and reinstall Itunes & QuickTime.
Step 1: Uninstall iTunes and QuickTime
I would suggest you to completely uninstall iTunes and QuickTime from your computer without leaving any traces of these programs on your computer. Also, uninstall any third party codecs(like K-Lite Codec) installed on your computer using the Programs and Features wizard from the Control Panel.

Note: The link above also have instructions to re-install iTunes and QuickTime. Do not re-install it as of now.
Step 2: Download and install the latest version of iTunes
    www.apple.com/itunes/download
Step 3: Uninstall QuickTime from Programs and Features
Once you install iTunes, by default you'll have QuickTime installed on your computer. You'll have to uninstall QuickTime from Programs and features.
How to uninstall a program in Windows Vista Programs and Features?
Step 4: Download and install the Standalone version of QuickTime

Now check if you’re able to execute iTunes without having any problem.

  • Windows keeps shutting down iTunes because of Data Execution Prevention. is there a DEP version of iTunes?

My iTunes program keeps shutting down shortly after loading.  I get an error from Windows stating that a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Then I get a message that states iTunes was closed because of Data Execution Prevention.  It states to find a version that allows DEP or change your DEP settings.  I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, but still have an issue.  Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can use iTunes?

I am unable to access iTunes.  Receive error regarding data execution prevention.  I've changed the Performance Options to exclude DEP for iTunes and I've tried unloading/reloading.  Still no success.  Suggestions?

Try updating your QuickTime to the most recent version. Does that clear up the DEP errors in iTunes?

  • Updated latest version of itunes onto windows xp.Can't open it.The Data Execution Prevention window comes up.I have followed all the directions of changing the settings.I have updated Quicktime.Still can't open it.

I updated the latest version of itunes onto my pc (windows xp) and all of a sudden I can't open it up.  Everytime I try to open it I get a window that says: "Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows...To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.  Change settings."  I have tried to change the settings.  Uninstalled & reinstalled itunes.  Updated the lates version of quicktime.  Nothing has helped.  If there is anyone who has a suggestion I would appreciate it.  I am at my wits end with this.  Thank you in advance for all your suggestions.

If anyone is looking at this and would like to know what I did to finally get it to work, I did the following:  I right click on the itunes icon on my desktop.......clicked on "run as"........made sure that it ran as administrator.   This finally worked for me.  Hope you all find this info helpful.

  • I cant transfer purchases to a playlist because of data execution prevention the programme closes

I am trying to transfer itune purchases from my library to a new playlist. Every time I click on a track I get an error message "Data Execution Prevention" and the programme closes.

    UPDATE:
I figured out how to find previous purchases (That tutorial is for a mac. I have a pc) Now it only gives me the option to download via iCloud. I do not want to do that because that just another headache waiting to happen.
    UPDATE 2:
My mistake, it doesnt give the option to download via iCLoud. It just says they are already downloaded to my computer, which is BS because it never worked in the first place. So is there any way to tell itunes to "check again" to see if the music in question is, in fact, on my computer?

  • Itunes wont open because of quicktime

ok i downloaded the latest itunes download and restarted my comp now if i try to open the open itunes i get a message stating itunes cannot run because it detects a problem with quicktime and if i click the help button nothing happens
plz help me i have a lot of music saved

Try removing QUicktime and installing the stand alone version. Also check for incompatible software.
    Here is a method
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
    If so uninstall them.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • ITunes 10.5 will not work because of Data Execution Prevention.  Can't update iPh

Somehow, I was finally able to download and reinstall an earlier version of iTunes and at least open it to finish the sync for my iPhone and oPod.
But, in order to update my iPhone software, I had to install the iTunes 10.5 update.  This promptly stopped working because of DEP.
Now, I am back to square one, and will have to completely wipe all Apple files and folders from my computer and reinstall the older version of iTunes again.  BTW, I had better success installing iTunes with Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
WILL THERE EVER BE A VERSION OF ITUNES 10.5 OR LATER THAT WILL ACTUALLY BE COMPATIBLE WITH DEP?

  • ITunes will not open due to Date Execution Prevention

I have tried disabling DEP for itunes but it won't let me!!!

Try updating your QuickTime to the most recent version. Does that clear up the DEP errors in iTunes?

  • Itunes stopped working due to Data Execution Prevention

my problem started... i had manually removed my older version of itunes n installed e updated version. after every thing is done.. i double-clicked on my shortcut of itunes, it came out with "itunes has stopped working, a problem caused to stop e prog to stop working correctly"
and it came out is the DEP caused it.
so after all e guides i've been through.. i thought turning e DEP off would help me turning on my itunes without any disturbance.. but i cant.. cos it says itunes will only working when DEP is enabled.
    can anyone help me?!

OK, many eye-blearying hours of reading up on DEP later and here is what I have managed to find out. Apparently, even Microsoft doesn't know how it works. Depending on which MSDN library article you read, the 32-bit version of Vista either does or does not support hardware DEP. Personally, I'm going to go with does, because this is dependent on whether the processor is NX or XD capable. If your processor IS NX or XD capable, see if you can disable this in the BIOS. That will take care of the hardware flavour.
The software DEP is configureable in many ways (we've already discussed a few), but guess what, YOU CAN TURN IT OFF. Vista does not use ntldr or boot.ini. It uses a registry hive called the Boot Configuration Data to configure the boot environment. This can be manipulated in several ways, the easiest being the BCDEdit function.
*****Before doing this, read lots on what you are about to attempt. You are about to modify your registry. Changes take effect immediately and can have severe consequences. By turning off DEP, you are disabling one of the security features in Windows that helps defeat buffer overrun types of attacks, to name one. Additionally, you may brick your system or render it unbootable. I do not recommend this solution, nor will I accept any responsibility for unforeseen consequences resulting from it. In other words....Your Call.*******
    Open up a command line interface, the syntax is as follows;
    *bcdedit /set [{ID}] nx AlwaysOff*
The optional {ID} is the GUID for the specific Windows boot loader boot entry that you want to configure. If you do not specify an {ID}, the command modifies the current operating system boot entry.
That's it, you're done. DEP is now off. Good Luck.
Personally, I would suggest getting the most up-to-date version of iTunes that you can. It should be DEP compliant.

Did iTunes ever work? Did this horrid message just start suddenly?
top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
    - turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
    - installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    - setting up Norton to allow iTunes
    - scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
    - last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts
