  • Itunes starts but fails to open due to audio configuration problem

    Hi
I have been running itunes 7.1 quite successfully until today. Running on windows xp/toshiba laptop.
Problem occurs when i select itunes on desktop, itunes appears on task bar below, after a number of seconds the following error message appears "itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration", once I click ok on this message itunes terminates.
No changes have been made to my audio configuration (to the best of my knowledge), i can run Windows Media Player and that works fine, so too real player.
I reinstalled itunes, but this did not resolve the problem. I also ran itunes from another logon on my laptop and that presented the same error. I checked all my audio settings in the control panel and also ran the diagnostics on each device and all appears to be fine.
Has anybody faced the same issue, and could anybody advise on any diagnistic tool that could assist in pinpointing the configuration problem?.
    Thanks

    Hi
Got it resolved, thanks for the prompt responses all!.
Resolved by removal current version of Quicktime thru the control panel (add/remove programs), and then reinstalled from the website.

Since iTunes uses QuickTime to play audio/video content in iTunes, that error message most likely indicates that there's a problem with Quicktime installation.

that's typically caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)

I thought you get quicktime installed when you install itunes . I have it in my program files

Oops, nevemind, I got it working again. I had installed a crappy codec pack that was obviously interfering with iTunes. I uninstalled the codec pack and, TAADAH!!, it worked.

  • ITunes wont open due to locked file.

I downloaded iTunes, but I get a message saying "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I uninstalled and reinstalled in several times now but I get the same message. I checked to see if the files were locked but I can find nothing about anything being locked. How can I fix this? (I have windows 7)

OK - I did some googling and somehow managed to fix it.
A lot of suggestions mention finding the iTunes Library.itl file and making sure that "read only" is unchecked, but I'd already done that and it still didn't work. So I then did this:
    1. Right-click the iTunes Library.itl file and select Properties.
    2. Select the Security tab
    3. In the “Group or user names” box select “Users”
    4. In “Permissions for Users” box select “Allow” all the way down the list.
    5. Click OK.
When I tried opening iTunes after that, it said that the iTunes Library.itdb was locked, so I did the same thing for those files. And now iTunes is working again.
    Whew! Hope that helps.

Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.

Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure.   However, when you re-install Itunes,  right click and run the install as administrator.   For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
