  • Itunes wont open need help backing up music on external hard drive

My itunes wont open after upgraded to 8 , ive uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and quicktime and still wont work. i found a topic to possibly help me but i dont know how to tranfer my music to an external disk drive without being able to open itunes. i am getting so frustrated. please help

A usb hard drive that Windows sees doesn't need software for a simple back up.
Format the hard drive Disk Management, if it doesn't come already formatted, and then drag and drop the iTunes folder and whatever other data you want to back up to it.
What you're describing doesn't sound like something iTunes did. If you're having general install troubles you have another problem with your system and it's time for a little troubleshooting to find out what's really going on.

  • ITunes wont open after upgrade to iTunes 9

I upgraded to iTunes 9 unaware that apparently it doesn't work with 10.4.11 and now itunes won't even open, instead I get an "requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later" message and when I click the OK button iTunes still doesn't open. I can't upgrade to QT 7.5.5, as far as I know it is for intel Macs only and apparently so is iTunes 9. I can uninstall iTunes 9 and reinstall itunes 8.2, but since I can't open iTunes and backup the music to a disc, I'm not sure if or how I would replace the music in the reinstalled iTunes, will the music folder be effected and if it is, can I simply copy the music folder to the desktop and then drag and drop it into the iTunes application folder after the reinstall? If not, what would be the best procedure?

Don't touch your iTunes Music folder. All your iTunes data is stored there completely separate from your iTunes application. You can delete or reinstall your iTunes Application without affecting your data. However, you should be able to use iTunes 9.
iTunes 9 requires OS X 10.4.11 or later and a Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 processor.
It also needs QuickTime 7.6 or later. You can download it here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Note that there are separate versions for Leopard and Tiger. Pick the right one.

  • Itunes wont open- need help!

Whenever i try to open my itunes it says "itunes has encountered an error and needs to close." Ive tried repairing itunes, reinstalling itunes, uninstalling quicktime and installing the standalone version, and then installn ewido anti-mallware and trying to remove some of those inected files. Nothing has worked and ive read through some of the post at i cant find anything else. Please leave me some suggestions! thanks
    adam

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevents it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistance the next time you run it and you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes wont open, needs newer version of quicktime, but newest is installed

I installed IMesh a while back and as soon as I did my Itunes refused to open. Everytime I try to open it, it says "Quicktime version 7.1 is installed, Itunes requires Quicktime 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall Itunes". So then I tried numerous times to reinstall Itunes, uninstall it and then reinstall it, used the installer cleanup thing, and even tried to install Quicktime and Itunes separately - I feel like it's still malfunctioning because of Imesh, even though I deleted iMesh entirely. Please help! I'm absolutely desperate.

okay. let's try swapping out your QuickTime one more time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Itunes wont open after update for itunes and ipod

alright, so i have no clue what im doing. ive been going through this board looking for different solutions to my problem but nothing seems to be working and im running out of options.
i was having troubles with itunes before, so i unistalled itunes and quicktime and reinstalled it, and i was still experiencing the same problems with having the program open. i uninstalled and reinstalled once more and then i got it to open and when i tried to update my ipod, it said i needed the new updater software, so i downloaded that. after all of that, my itunes won't open again and i dont know what to do anymore. i just want my stuff to work and nothing i seem to do helps with the problem.
any ideas on what to do to get both itunes and my ipod to work again?

  • Itunes wont open. lost connection to itunes on my itouch as well.

is this a known problem? but no one seems to have given any helpful answer to this problem. its been 2days & i still cant access itunes in my laptop or my itouch.

    Hello Chascott2012
Your best bet is to have access to the old computer to transfer the music to your new computer, the article below will assist with that.

  • ITunes wont open after re-instaling win xp..

i just re-installed xp and itunes wont open now, shows this--iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.
i tried removing quicktime and itunes and tried re-installing too...but wont help...
i downloaded the old ver 9.2.1.5 but it still wont work....
    Pls help....
AppName: itunes.exe           AppVer: 9.2.1.5           ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0           Offset: 6975515c

I have wasted hours on this for the past few days, and this is what finally worked. I uninstalled both itunes and quicktime. I then reintalled itunes and quicktime, then uninstalled quicktime only. I then reinstalled quicktime standalone. For some reason it now works. I have no idea why this worked, but there had to be something strange going on with quicktime. I would try this before I got into the system and started deleting files, and turning things off. At one point I couldn't even restart my computer.....so don't go there. I am not happy that Apple does not come forward with more help, this is a real mess.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
