some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • My itunes wont open on my windows vista!

i have a windows vista with avg security and my itunes wont open. ive tried everything i can think of.

    Awesomeness!
Search your hard drive for a file containing ITL in it. That is the file extension for the itunes database file. You might need to set Win Explorer options to show NOT hide file extensions.
Once you are sure you know where that file is, press AND HOLD the shift key while starting itunes. Keep holding the shift key until you see a question about choosing or creating a library. Choose the ITL file you found during your search.

  • Itunes Wont Open!!!Error -50

My Itunes wont open ever since i upgraded to 6.0.before that everything worked fine.ive tried many of the techniques and none have worked.plz help me!!!

hmmm. okay, if you're currently just getting the "itunes has encountered an error ..." let's try the following technique.
    preliminaries
download and save a fresh copy of the itunes 6.0.1.3 installer to your hard drive. (eventually we're going to run the install from there rather than online.)
    iTunes 6.0.1.3 Installer
switch off any antivirus and antispyware applications prior to any uninstalls, installs or repair installs.
    uninstall
use the complete uninstall instructions given in the following document to remove your existing itunes and quicktime:
Troubleshooting iTunes, iPod Software, and QuickTime installation on Windows
... and if you run into problems on the uninstall, try using the Installer Cleanup utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
    reboot after uninstalling.
    reinstall
remember to switch off your antivirus and antispyware.
reinstall itunes using the 6.0.1.3 installer you downloaded previously.
if you get the "itunes has encountered a problem ..." error message again after that install, first check to see if your Quicktime will launch. if you get an error message when you try to launch quicktime, try using the following technique:
iTunes 6 for Windows unexpectedly quits when opened
keep us posted on your progress.

I can't seem to get iTunes to open on a computer after my father synced his iPad.  I deleted and reinstalled, and tried opening in safe mode.  Nothing is opening...it doesnt even show it in the Task Manager.  Anyone who can help?

  • The New 10.2 iTunes Wont Open In My Windows Vista?

I used to have the iTunes 10.0 i think of what ever was the old version before the 10.2 came out. It said to download the new version and i did. and now when i try to open it, it says "This shortcut has been moved or changed" and i keep uninstalling it and everything and install it back and it still says the same thing. Any help?
    Thank you!

Okay ... so it looks like some permissions are stuffed up around your program files area.
Now you've got the folder open, can you check something further for me please? Try right-clicking on the itunes.exe and selecting "run as administrator". Does it launch when you do that?
(Trying to work out here if it's a problem with your Windows user account's permissions that is causing the messages, or if some different set of permissions has turned to custard for us.)

  • Itunes wont open.. "send error report to microsoft"

Whenever i try to open my Itunes, a message asking me to send an error report to Microsoft appears. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both itunes and quicktime many different times and nothing is working. I have tried recreating the preference files or whatever, and also recreating the music library files that are potentially corrupt. please help me someone!!
    gateway   Windows XP

I have the same problem too. I use Win2k3 on my Compaq Presario 2500 laptop. I have been noticing this problem since the day i decided to upgrade from iTunes 6.0.2.x to higher. As of now it seems to me that it is the problem with QuickTime. Worse part is afte uninstalling the iTunes I can not find QuickTime in add/remove program group.
Earlier for this reason alone I did reinstall everything, formatting the disk. Yesterday I just tried upgrading to latest version. Unlucky me stuck with the same problem again. Never expected something like this from Apple at least. Now I should row for clean install once again.
Tried to rolling back to earlier version of iTunes but quicktime seems to be the problem.

  • ITunes wont open because of runtime error? please help

Whenever I try to open my itunes the window pops up but then is followed by a message saying:
    "Runtime Error!
This application has reguested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."
    Please help guys

Some users here have reported that one cause of the Runtime error is the Apple Software Update, so you might try removing that and see if that fixes the problem. Removing the Software Update shouldn't affect iTunes itself (though as with any software maintenance operation, it would be wise to make a backup of your purchased tracks before you try it), you just won't get automatic update checking.
    Hope this helps.

  • I upgraded itunes so I could link my i5 now itunes wont open i have windows 7

Do you get an error message when you try to open iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • Itunes wont open after updating. windows 7 ultimate

    Hi,
I have been using itunes for perfectly fine then when i updated it, it stopped working. The update required a restart but i elected to manually restart, but i believe i forgot to and tried to open itunes and i got an error saying "iTunes has stopped working: check online for solutions or close program." I restarted my computer but it still doesnt work. ive already tried numerous things like a fresh install (uninstalled every apple program basically). any suggestions?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

Hey badgebadge! I am having the EXACT same problem... My iTunes opens, then tries to "Create Artwork Thumbnails" then bugs out. I'm running Windows Vista, and up to this point have had NO problems with iTunes. The problem details match yours exactly... have you found a solution? I'm going to try the uninstall of quicktime and see what happens. I'll let you know if it helps! (And I have already tried deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb file... no dice.)
UPDATE: I looked at your problem signature a little closer, and there were a few minor differences.. here is mine:

  • Itunes wont Open with Vista Service pack 2

My itunes stopped working a while ago and so i decided to delete it, i then reformatted my laptop and reinstalled vista back to the way it was when i first got my laptop and by wonders itunes worked. However since i have completed the updates that windows has given me, including service pack 2 it has stopped working again due to date execution prevention. does anyone know how i can solve this issue

This is a worldwide issue with several audio drivers after a recent Windows update.  Microsoft's website shows a disclaimer saying that it is not responsible and that we should approach the Original Equipment Manufacturer about the problem.  Obviously, our OEM is HP who, to date, have neither communicated a fix to their customers, nor have they issued a recall.  <text deleted>
Please see the other thread in this forum entitled:  HP Quicktouch On Screen Display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.
