Any ideas on how I can get itunes to open up after installing new versions of it and quicktime?

    hi keymobfan!
I think I have seen your replies on other threads. Thanks for trying to help. Is there any way to get a group answer to these questions instead of each one of us with an individual thread?
fair question. for some problems (like chkdsk) a consolidated thread approach is helpful (although Da Gopha would be the best authority on whether or not that's the case). but in practice (with the launch errors) it's best to treat the different cases individually and in independent threads.
there are several different reasons. here are a few of the main ones.
    (1) there are two major classes of "launch failure" problems: ones where you get an error message and ones where you don't. sensible everyday-folks typically use the same language to describe the problems, and often don't provide details which would let you work out which class of problems are in play. So, since the treatments for different error messages differ, and also differ from the treatments for the error-less ones, we usually have to check at least once to work out what's going on.
    (2) even if we work out that it's (say) an errorless launch failures, there are (currently) three main causes of errorless launch failures. the treatments for each of those three (not to mention the rarer possibilities) are radically different, and some of them are fairly involved. so we typically need to do some diagnostic work to work out what is going on in each case.
    (3) sometimes it takes a while (several posts back and forth) to work out what's going on. and more often than not (in multiperson threads) where people are all saying they have the same problem, there turns out to be different problems in play ... and the diagnosis and treatment work for one person ends up being irrelevant (and occasionally inadvisable) for other people in the thread. and every single one of those "irrelevant" posts generates an email notification to the other people in the thread. so people end up accidentally spamming each other in those big consolidated threads.
    (4) even when it is clear that there is more than one different problem going on in a thread, you'll still get people leaping into the thread to say "i've got the same problem!" and nothing more (generating another email notification), and with no clear indication (or no indication whatsoever) as to what problem they might have, or at what stage of the diagnosis/troubleshooting process they might be at. so if we were going to deal with them in that thread, we would have to start the diagnostic procedure (generating more email notifications) ...
    (5) typically at this stage of proceedings, people start posting in the big threads saying that they can't follow what is going on, because navigation is difficult (generating a new email notification). there's a tendency also for new posters who aren't familiar with the way the reply controls work (and can't really be blamed for that) to post in inappropriate places in "sub-strands" in the threads, making navigation even more difficult.
    (6) if you're one of the "advice providers" unfortunate enough to have a good reputation in the forums, and you're spending a lot of time in a particular huge and unweildy thread trying to fix some problems, and people notice that you're posting a lot in there, they have a tendency to threadjack in there in order to try to get your attention, no matter what problem they may happen to have (generating more email notifications) ...
    (7) launch problems evolve over time for us, so the fact that a treatment protocol worked and was appropriate for some people at the beginning of a thread is no guarantee that it will help people posting in later. (the NIS 2005 and Ipod Service Errors are two classic examples of that that i can recall.) so it's helpful to let some possible treatments die, so you're not having to say, "no, you should actually do this nowadays" all the time.
and so on, and so on, and so forth ... i could go on, but i'm just getting depressed even thinking about this at the moment. (which is a bad thing. i don't want to have to change my Zoloft dosage again. the transitional effects compromise my ability to give advice.)
so, do a search on "post new topic" constrained by the alias "b noir" and you'll see (probably) dozens of "start your own thread please" posts in recent weeks. on due consideration, i decided it was the better way to approach these problems.

  • ITUNES WONT OPEN OR REINSTALL!!  PLEASE HELP!!

Everytime I try to open my itunes I get a pop-up saying
"QuickTime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.1.3 or later.
    Please reinstall iTunes."
This message also appears whenever I try to update my itunes or reinstall it. Can someone please help me??

Go here. Da Gopha, "iTfW: stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes", 09:51am Apr 5, 2005 CDT and do a stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes. That might help. Sometimes extra hidden files can muck up an installation.

Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.

  • Itunes wont open-reinstall doesnt solve

itunes wont open and when i try it says it cant open b/c some of its required files are missing and to reinstall itunes. so i went to this website and d/l it again and clicked repair. that didnt work. then i tried uninstalling/deleting everything and re-installing it and both when i tried repairing and re-installing altogether, a message came up having to do with quicktime..it read something like : quicktime error: -3
    HELP!

For the QT error -3, I'd try the standalone QT install first.
top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
    - turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
    - installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    - setting up Norton to allow iTunes
    - scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
    - last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts

Post back with any questions or your solution.

  • TS1717 my itunes wont open , any advice to get it to open ? ive already tried deleting it and reinstalling but nothing seems to work.

my itunes wont open, please help. ive already tried deleting it and reinstalling it but nothing seems to work.

Yes there is.  You apparently have Hardware damage inside the iPhone from dropping it.  You would need to take it into an Apple Store and Pay for an exchange unit, which Apple will do; Apple's Warranty does NOT include replacement for "accidental damage", so the Exchange is not free.

  • Itunes wont open, tried copy .dll files and safe mode, reinstall it many many times. it just wont work.

got the lastest windows 8.1 and the itunes update recently.
itunes wont open after install of the new version.
tried many ways mentioned on the internet and the apple support communities.
still it doesnt in the "open-mood "

Same problem here.  I have Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and iTunes 11.1.5.5 and I cannot open iTunes.  I do not know of anyone who can.  This is a widely known problem by users but Apple has yet to acknowledge this issue.  There is no known solution.

  • Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure.   However, when you re-install Itunes,  right click and run the install as administrator.   For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Itunes Wont Open!!!Error -50

My Itunes wont open ever since i upgraded to 6.0.before that everything worked fine.ive tried many of the techniques and none have worked.plz help me!!!

hmmm. okay, if you're currently just getting the "itunes has encountered an error ..." let's try the following technique.
    preliminaries
download and save a fresh copy of the itunes 6.0.1.3 installer to your hard drive. (eventually we're going to run the install from there rather than online.)
    iTunes 6.0.1.3 Installer
switch off any antivirus and antispyware applications prior to any uninstalls, installs or repair installs.
    uninstall
use the complete uninstall instructions given in the following document to remove your existing itunes and quicktime:
Troubleshooting iTunes, iPod Software, and QuickTime installation on Windows
... and if you run into problems on the uninstall, try using the Installer Cleanup utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
    reboot after uninstalling.
    reinstall
remember to switch off your antivirus and antispyware.
reinstall itunes using the 6.0.1.3 installer you downloaded previously.
if you get the "itunes has encountered a problem ..." error message again after that install, first check to see if your Quicktime will launch. if you get an error message when you try to launch quicktime, try using the following technique:
iTunes 6 for Windows unexpectedly quits when opened

You did not indicate the name(s) of the automatic Software Update. Was it just an iTunes update?
Run the Repair Permissions (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) then Restart your computer. Relaunch iTunes.
If iTunes fails to open, disconnect any Firewire/USB peripherals (except Mouse) and reinstall that same version from the Apple Downloads Website, then repeat the above Repair and Restart.
