it was working a few days ago, then I hd to get rid of a few programs fast, so I went to the Program Files folder and deleted a few of them. All the apple software was deleted from this folder. But I didn't actually go the the control panel and all that.

Hello Jkroll
You may want to try the uninstall below. Keep in mind to follow it in the order below if you want to reduce the amount of times you reboot. Also keep in mind not all programs in this list will be on your computer this is just a list of Apple programs that could be there if so uninstall them.
1. Uninstall the following Apple Software in the following order to help reduce reboots
-Apple Mobile Device Support
-Apple Software Update
-Bonjour
-Windows iPod Updater (Name might be different but look for anything with the word iPod)
-MobileME Control Panel
-Quicktime
-iTunes
*Now reboot the computer
*Now download and install Quicktime by itself the stand alone version. Then download and install iTunes.

  • ITunes wont open - Quicktime issue

Ive tryed to reinstall itunes at least half a dozen times now and nothing will fix this issue. If i try to open itunes, the process (in task manager) starts but gets to about 38000K then nothing, never opens no matter how long i wait. Im unable to end this process either, so it just sits there taking up memory. Following the advice of someone else in another thread i tryed changing the compatability of quicktime and itunes to windows 2000 and this gave me the error message that "quicktime is required to run itunes" despite the fact that i do have it installed. Reinstalling both itunes and quicktime have no effect on the problem, does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello BaconSquishy.
First thing I would do is turn compatibility mode off if you have it on for iTunes and Quicktime. As this will not really fix anything except under rare and special conditions.
Next thing I would do is Basic uninstall in the following order. And installation in the following order. If this does not work proceed to last link below for assistance.
Uninstall the following Apple Applications in the following order.
Launch Control Panel and open Add/Remove Programs or Programs and features if you have Vista.
    -Apple Mobile Device Support
    -Apple Software Update
    -Bonjour
-Windows iPod Updater (Name might be different but look for anything with the word iPod)
    -MobileME Control Panel
    -Quicktime
    -iTunes
    *Now reboot the computer
-Download and install Quicktime Standalone. There will be 2 options. Click the Quicktime Standalone
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
-Download and install iTunes once Quicktime is installed
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
*Launch iTunes. Depending on the speed of your machine. Give it 4 min tops to load. Should not take that long. Pay close attention to fire wall alert messages as they might be looking for approval to launch the App.
*If you still can not launch it check the link below

  • When I try to open iTunes, I receive a QuickTime failed to initialize (error-2096).

When I try to open iTunes, I receive:  "QuickTime failed to initialize (error - 2096).  It also tells me to unistall iTunes and then install iTunes again.  If I uninstall iTunes, will I lose all my songs and videos?

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.

  • I installed itunes and quick time  but when I try to open itunes I get a message that reads "quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096)"

I installed itunes and quick time  but when I try to open itunes I get a message that reads "quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096).  I have removed both itunes and quicktime from my computer and re-installed them and I still get the same message.  What do I do to get itunes to work?

That one is often a compatibility mode problem. Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

  • Unable to open iTunes - Quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096)

I can't open iTunes. An error message pops up that says: "Quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096). Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes multiple times and I still get the same error message. I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime, but that doesn't work either.
    Please help!

    Hello jms1775,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you had a chance to look at this Apple support documented related to this issue? If not, it would be a good place to start.

  • I cant open itunes cause quick time failed to initialize (error - 2096)

i cant open itunes cause quick time failed to initialize (error - 2096)

    hmmmm.
doublechecking something before proceeding ... are any boxes ticked in the Compatibility tab for your QuickTime?
(i've seen that message produced when some of the Display Settings boxes in there are ticked, not just the compatibility mode one.)

  • After iTunes 7.6 update:  QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096

"QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096).
QuickTime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes."
After upgrading to iTunes 7.6 this morning, I get this error when trying to run iTunes or Quicktime. I was using the Apple Updater. I got no errors when running the installer.
I downloaded the 7.6 setup file and attempted to repair the install. I still receive the same error.
There is an article indicating that turning off Compatibility mode would resolve this issue, but Compatibility mode is not turned on for iTues or QuickTime.
The same issue is discussed in the Quicktime forum, here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6400305
I am running on Windows 2003.
Note I had iTunes open earlier today, and it was working fine. It was only when I upgraded to 7.6 (I think I was at 7.4 before. It was definetly 7.something).

Thanks for this discussion and I hope Apple fixes this soon. It took me forever but installing QT 7.2 and installing the less recent itunes update from filehippo finally resolved it for me. Of course the reason it took me forever was that every time I reinstalled itunes, I was using the default setting that was updating QT & Apple also (in hindsight it sounds really dumb, but no one had mentioned that).
This is the first itunes update that has ever gone wrong for me - I've used itunes for 5 yrs (my 1st ipod was a 2nd gen touch wheel). I wonder if some MS developers went to work at Apple to exact revenge...?

  • DOWNLOAD ITUNES 7.6- RESPONSE "QUICKTIME FAILED TO INITIALIZE, ERROR 2096

I just tried to upgrade to I-Tunes 7.6. Installation seemed to work, yet I get a response now (when I try to go into I-Tunes)- "Quicktime failed to initialize (error 2096)- please reinstall I-Tunes", and now I can't access I-Tunes at all. I've been browsing the discussion boards for an answer, but haven't located a good response yet. I have Windows XP on a Dell computer. Any solutions would be appreciated!

Many thanks for your quick reply! However, in browsing through some old discussions (from back in Nov. 2007), I found this response which worked beautifully & I got everything back. Word to the wise...don't upgrade I-Tunes(read below):
+I was having the same problem, i upgraded to the new iTunes & it wouldn't open cause of an error with Quicktime.+
+On another topic thread, Rob Austin suggested to go to this website http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html+
+IT WORKS!!! Just delete Quicktime from your computer & download Quicktime from the link & iTunes will re-open. I got all my songs back, everything was the same, even my playlists.+
    +Thanks Rob!!!+

Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.

Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure.   However, when you re-install Itunes,  right click and run the install as administrator.   For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Y do I get a quicktime failed to initialize error when i try to download itunes?

Why do I get an error message saying quicktime failed to initialize when downloading i-tunes?

Check this Apple document out -> Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Try following the steps in that article, which will have you remove iTunes and the other bundled Apple software. Then download and install iTunes.

  • My itunes wont open! but my quicktime player works fine! help please

my itunes wont opena dn ive been told that if my quick time does not open then people have solutions but what should i do if my quicktime opens fine its just my itunes that wont work??
pleas help me i appreciate it

    hi ho!
well i did what u suggested and the itunes only stayed there for about 10 seconds...
hmmm. i don't really like the sound of that. it's consistent with the malware problem (it seems to be a Qoologic variant) that has been causing "error-less" itunes launch failures for a lot of people since late October.
however, there are at least two other fairly common causes of error-less launch failures (and some rarer ones), so the diagnosis can be a bit tricky. look through the diagnostic procedures and treatment suggestions given in this post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=349706&messageID=1211446
if you do get itunes launching using the MSCONFIG technique, let us know the names of the start-up items you you have to disable. (letter-for-letter-capitalisation-for-capitalisation. include the filename extensions of the start-up items.)

  • Quicktime failed to initialize error -2096 using itunes 8, WinServer2003

Quicktime failed to initialize error -2096
I am getting this when trying to run Itunes 8 on windows 2003 standard
When i click on "QTInfo.exe" it says "Not Installed"
I tried re-installing a few times, all the regular stuff. When I searched help, all I see is a bunch of ninny suggestions like check if it is running in compatibility mode.
    Itunes used to work with:
    Itunes v7.7 + v7.3.1 Quicktime
(I did NOT use the standard itunes 7.7 installer, since it trys to install Quicktime 7.5)
Basically I'm looking for Apple or someone to tell me what are the files causing the problem so I can bypass it.
This is highly aggravating because we have 2 iphones now that are not able to sync because I updated them to v2.1 which doesnt work with v7.7 of itunes.
I do not actually use quicktime, so if there is a way to trick itunes 8 into thinking the latest quicktime is installed, that would be ok with me too.

I am going to try these solutions to see if they help. I need to backup my computer before doing so though, I dont want to lose everything.

  • ITUNES WONT OPEN COMES UP WITH ERROR MESSAGE

ITUNES WONT OPEN COMES UP WITH ERROR MESSAGE (send error report one)

some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • Quicktime fails to initialize message

Every time I try to launch Itunes after reinstalling due to a series of freezes I get"QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096) , it then suggests uninstalling and reinstalling ITunes. I have and get the same message, even though I can launch quicktime seperatly.

    I get"QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096)
2096s can be caused by compatibility mode settings on either iTunes or QuickTime.
First check the compatibility mode settings on your QuickTime (if you've got a *64-bit Windows 7* the QuickTime program files will be down in the *Program files (x86)* directory rather than in Program files):
[Error -2096 message when opening QuickTime for Windows in Compatibility Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1875]
... and if no luck there, check your iTunes compatibility mode tab (make sure none of the boxes are checked in there ... if you've got a *64-bit Windows 7* the relevant iTunes program files for you will again be in Program Files (x86) rather than in Program files):
[iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1489]
Any relief from the 2096s after applying either or both of those measures?
