Itunes wont start after upgrading for iPhone

has anyone had this problem after upgrading itunes? I downloaded the new software and it appears to install fine (I even restarted my laptop) but when I click on itunes or quicktime, nothing happens. I've checked the processes list to see if its running and it shows that applemobiledevice.exe, ipodservice.exe, launchapplication.exe ituneshelper.exe are running. can anyone help? I'd really like to sync my calendar and contacts.
thanks

Hi chrisr2sf;
Since this is the iPhone forum where you posted you might have more response if you post over in the iTunes for Windows forum instead.

I tried downgrading to 5.01 and the same probume happens. i re installed 6.0 7 times and the same probume happens. So i currently have 6.0 installed. Again iTunes dosent even open up. Any ideas on getting it to work anyone?
    Thanks in advanced

EDIT:my PC crashed during instlliation if this could effect anything.

    hi y'all!
first try a careful QT 7.0.3 reinstall. see:

but if no joy with that, try the following more rigorous technique:

  • I Tunes for WIndows wont start after upgrade to 8.0.1

I recently upgraded to iTunes 8.0.1.11. After upgrade, if for some reason I need to reboot my computer iTunes will not start. It took forever to finally figure out what it was. I couldn't sync my iPod, could not get on to iTunes , etc. I finally had to try to uninstall Bonjour to make it come up. The problem is that I can never fully uninstall Bonjour. It says I do not have sufficient privileges. It will be ok until I have to reboot again or turn off my computer. I then have to try to uninstall bonjour to make it come up again. Is there a fix for this bug so I don't have to go through the same procedure every time I reboot?

As far as the sufficient privileges go.
You may wish to temporarily disable User Access Control (UAC)
This should then give you permission to complete the uninstall process like you have been doing. Also ensure you are an Administrator user on the account. That right away will cause the message to appear if you are not.
You want to ensure this gets turned back on if you do not have adequate security protection such as
    -Firewall Software
    -Anti Virus Software
    -Spyware/Adaware Software
To Turn UAC off in the easiest way possible
    -Launch Control Panel
    -Launch User Accounts
In this Window you will see an option called "Turn User Access Control ON/OFF" Click on this. A simple pop up window will appear. If it has a check mark in the box. Un-check it. Reboot. UAC is now off.
Windows security will notify you of this. Feel free to ignore it while you try to uninstall again. Repeat the steps above to turn it back on when you are ready.
By any chance have you tried a Basic Uninstall of Apple Software? and then Run the iTunes Setup file in Administrator Mode?

  • ITunes wont open after upgrade to iTunes 9

I upgraded to iTunes 9 unaware that apparently it doesn't work with 10.4.11 and now itunes won't even open, instead I get an "requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later" message and when I click the OK button iTunes still doesn't open. I can't upgrade to QT 7.5.5, as far as I know it is for intel Macs only and apparently so is iTunes 9. I can uninstall iTunes 9 and reinstall itunes 8.2, but since I can't open iTunes and backup the music to a disc, I'm not sure if or how I would replace the music in the reinstalled iTunes, will the music folder be effected and if it is, can I simply copy the music folder to the desktop and then drag and drop it into the iTunes application folder after the reinstall? If not, what would be the best procedure?

Don't touch your iTunes Music folder. All your iTunes data is stored there completely separate from your iTunes application. You can delete or reinstall your iTunes Application without affecting your data. However, you should be able to use iTunes 9.
iTunes 9 requires OS X 10.4.11 or later and a Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 processor.
It also needs QuickTime 7.6 or later. You can download it here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Note that there are separate versions for Leopard and Tiger. Pick the right one.

Installed the upgrade for iTunes and now it wont open at all. Clicked on the icon, clicked long on the icon and chose open, and lastly tried to open from applications but I get nothing. Not even an error message. Just a blink of the screen. Please help! I have a iMac version 10.6.8

  • ITunes never starts after upgrade to 7.1.1.5

I let the apple updater upgrade my iTunes to a newer version of '7' to hopefully fix a few lingering bugs. After doing so, everything seemed to work fine. Songs and playlists were present and my iPods were synced.
After rebooting a few days later (windows XP, latest service pack/patches), iTunes will not start. When I select the shortcut or the program from 'all programs', it gives me the hourglass for a couple of seconds and does nothing afterward. No errors in the event log, no popup windows addressing an error situation. It just doesn't start. Quicktime player (7.1.5) works fine. This happens after a clean powerup, before any other apps are started.
Any ideas? I hate to think that I have to uninstall and reinstall again. I did many times after 7.x was released (including one full refresh of the XP opsys after corruption from the first release of 7). After the initial upgrade, I thought that the bugs in 7 were finally ironed out for me.

Most likely, this will fix your issue:
    1: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
Also clean up your temp files:
(Empty your Temp directory and restart)
    2: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
If you get an error when uninstalling quicktime, go through article 1, then run the Microsoft Cleanup Utility to remove quicktime afterwards:

  • HELP! ITunes wont open after Upgrade.

I upgraded the new version of ITunes our of stupidity and it ruined my life. Itunes now wont open. I have tried removing it and re-downloading. I have restarted it and tried everything possible that the support screens say. PLEASE HELP!

Well I don't know what "tried everything possible" means!
top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
    - turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
    - installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    - setting up Norton to allow iTunes
    - scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
    - last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Post back with any questions or your solution.

  • Itunes wont open after upgrading

I upgraded to the newest version of itunes and now when i try to open it it pops up and says:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvience
After that it asks if you want to see what the error report contains and when i click that it says:
The fowoling files will be included in this error report:
    C:\DOCUME~1\Rich\LOCALS~1\Temp\38de_appcompat.txt
    Can anyone help?
I am running Windows XP SP2 if that helps

you run no antivirus at all?
thats a dangerous game of russian roullette. you probably have malware, spyware, adware blocking you from opening iTunes. This is not uncommon and there is a variant of malware attacking Windows computers that is making this errorless launch of iTunes.
The number one rule of owning a Windows PC that accesses the internet is to have programs that will scan and remove malware, viruses, and spyware. You MUST run these scans AT least twice a week.
Go download these free programs and clean your PC, then your iTunes should open.
    1. EWIDO-a free malware scanner and remover tool
    2. LavaSoft's AdAware-will scan and remove syware, adware
    3. AVG Free-will scan and remove viruses
    4. SpyBot S&D-will also remove spyware
IF your computer is heavily infested, as I suspect yours is, your computer will take HOURS to do this, but its worth it. Also, you may want to go to TrendMicro's website and use their HouseCall scanner. It will scan and remove stuff of your PC via the internet.
You may have to boot into SafeMode and use these programs.
Good Luck and report back once your scans have completed.
PS. It is important to run more than one AntiSpyWare program because each program will catch what another program misses. Spyware will slow your system down tremendously. I suggest a spyware scan several times a week

  • HELP Itunes wont launch after upgrading

I downloaded the latest Itunes, and then tried to launch it.
I keep getting the following message
"error getting file security :\C\program files\get last error 5
I have even tried to remove I tunes through the add & remove section in the control panel, but this also does not allow me to do this and i get the same message.
    Can someone help ???

I just bought a new iPod Nano and installed iTunes 7.02 sucessfully and it wont launch at all...it simply sits there.
    some preliminary questions.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
also, reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • Itunes wont open after update for itunes and ipod

alright, so i have no clue what im doing. ive been going through this board looking for different solutions to my problem but nothing seems to be working and im running out of options.
i was having troubles with itunes before, so i unistalled itunes and quicktime and reinstalled it, and i was still experiencing the same problems with having the program open. i uninstalled and reinstalled once more and then i got it to open and when i tried to update my ipod, it said i needed the new updater software, so i downloaded that. after all of that, my itunes won't open again and i dont know what to do anymore. i just want my stuff to work and nothing i seem to do helps with the problem.
any ideas on what to do to get both itunes and my ipod to work again?

Perhaps this Apple KnowledgeBase article will help:

    Good luck.

  • Itunes wont start after updating on Windows

Ive updated to the most recent version of Itunes and now the program will not start. It immediately says Itunes has stopped working without even opening the program. Ive tried every single fix listed by apple on this website. Nothing has worked. I dont plan on buying anymore music through Itunes if apple cant even get the program to run properly

See HT203206: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Itunes wont start after installation

    i keep getting
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
have reinstalled software several time but no luck.
    HELP!!!

    I was having that problem.
Try opening Quicktime and playing something and see if that works. My guess is that it won't.
For some odd reason, quicktime didn't install correctly BUT the stupid Itunes install doesn't tell you that. It SAYS that it installs correctly and then just craps out and fails when you try to start it. At least that's what was happening to me.
