ITunes wont start Error report.

A while back, I had to do a system restore. I reinstalled both quicktime and iTunes, but whenever I open iTunes, one of those "iTunes has encountered an error," messages appears. I have tried everything, including reinstalling several times. I have a lot of music I want to be able to play.

i just downloaded itunes 7.3 and itunes wont start any ideas how to fix?

Okay. I'm still wondering about your firewall. A "persistent" iTunes.exe in your processes is most consistent with a firewall blocking iTunes, iTunesHelper and/or QuickTime from accessing the Internet. (Norton Internet Security 2005 is by far the worst offender in this regard, but it can be produced both other firewalls too.)
Head into the Firewalls settings and make sure that iTunes, iTunesHelper, and QuickTime are all being allowed full access to the internet.
If iTunes still doesn't launch after making sure the firewall is correctly adjusted, reboot the PC and try the suggestion from the following document. (It's a much rarer issue, but it can also produce that persistent iTunes.exe symptom in conjunction with an error-message-free iTunes launch failure.)

  • ITunes wont start up

Hi, i had a look on this answer to a topic : itunes wont start :
+The QuickTime problem is most likely causing the iTunes launch problem. So let's try swapping out your QuickTime again taking a few additional explicit precautions.+
    +Head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.+
+Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.+
+1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).+
+2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.+
    +3. Open Program Files.+
+4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.+
    +5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.+
+6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)+
    +7. Restart your computer.+
+Next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.+
+Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.+
+Go into Add/Remove and select itunes. Click "Change" and then click "Repair".+
but when it comes to install/uninstall an error comes out : An error ocured while installation
and i cant get rid of it. Pls help. Any ideas? Thx. J

but when it comes to install/uninstall an error comes out : An error ocured while installation
Let's try getting the program uninstalled by other means then.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now run the utility (“Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up”), select any QuickTime entries in the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, and then click “Remove”.
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer
Does the repair install go through properly now? Or do you get another error message when you try the repair install?

  • Itunes wont start, computer says to download latest version 7.5

iTunes wont start, solution computer gives it to download latest version 7.5. nut when i download it and install 7.5 on my computer, which i have done several times, it doesn't work and says i should download the latest update.....which i already have! is it Vista related, or is relating to version 7.5?....please help me!!

I'll post the same thing I posted in another thread; it might help you. Reinstall itunes again according to my post. Some of the information is irrelevant to your problem, but hey, i'm kinda feeling lazy. You'll get the idea. Here it is.....
"this is just a suggestion. If you reinstall itunes again, make sure you follow the directions in the support section of this site for uninstalling itunes and quicktime. Another thing they don't say in that article that I did when i had to uninstall itunes was to do a search. You know, pressing the start button and then "Search". Make sure when you do, click the search "All files and folders". Then set it to look in "Local Hard Drives (C:)" and type in the "all or part of the file name" itunes. After the search is done you should have a bunch of different itunes components in the results. Btw do the same for quicktime as a search. Make sure to DELETE every itunes and quicktime file there. If some of your music files happened to come up in the search use commone sense. Get rid of every component so itunes and quicktime is completely erased from the system. Make sure that you do this after you've restarted your computer once (according to the uninstallation article). Then just empty your recycle bin, reboot your computer, and finally reinstall itunes. Hopefully that will work to at least get rid of that APP error. Good luck and ask me anything you have some questions!!"
    Hope that works!

Okay. Let's try swapping out that QuickTime one more time, taking a few additional explicit precautions this time.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).

    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Itunes only shows error report when starting up

Ok so I've downloaded some songs and every time that i double click Itunes to start it up this is exactly what pops up:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.

The error report contents includes 2 documents
    C:/DOCUME~1\Janet\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERe592.dir00\iTunes.exe.mdmp
    C:/DOCUME~1\Janet\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERe592.dir00\appcompat.txt
I have a Hp Pavilion Enterainment Notebook PC
Dont have much experience with computers
The problem occured after downloading a Media file from a Youtube to mp2 converter

many thanks for the detailed info, Dakota.
    EventType: InPageError
A rarer one. It tends to be associated with disk/file damage.
The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, does iTunes launch properly afterwards?

  • Itunes Wont Start At All No Error Messages Nothing HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Itunes Wont Work At All No Error Message Comes Up NOTHING ive Uninstalled , Deleted the Files in c Drive and Re Installed it Over and Over Again Quicktime Works Fine But When i Open Quicktime My Itunes is on there :S its very Confusing But i still cant Sync music Onto my Ipod or Buy Any Music Please Help Me!!!!!!!

Does iTunes.exe persist in the task manager or disappear again quickly. This can be a clue to the cause of the problem.
If iTunes persists this points to either firewall blocking or a damaged configuration file.
Try briefly turning off your firewall to see if iTunes will launch. Otherwise the link I will give at the end tells you how to delete the configuration file.
If iTunes doesn't appear or appears briefly and then disappears this may be a digital signing issue, also dealt with in the link.
It is a good idea to scan your PC for viruses and spyware, as malware can cause problems.
Apple article on troubelshooting launch problems:
    XP version
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856
    Vista version
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305491
If the things I suggested above don't wiork, try working through the whole article.
All this is on the assumption that your Quicktime is working normally. I am a bit worried that you have been installing and uninstalling different versions, it just complicates the issue.

  • Itunes wont start

    Hi,
I've recently tried to install itunes 6. During the installation process it looked like everything was going well but at the 'installation successful' screen the windows send error report window appears. I close that window and click finish to complete installation. When i then try and start up itunes the send error window appears again and itunes can not start.
I have tried to start up quicktime on its own as it appears to be the villian. (based on what ive read in other posts) But i get the following message 'the following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation file. c:\windows\system32\quicktime\uninstall.log' so i can't uninstall.
When i try and install a standalone version of quicktime 7.0.2 i get this error - 'a newer version of quicktime is already installed...'
I've tried installing with my firewall disabled. Ive tried editing the registry. Windows install cleanup does not detect the quicktime installation.
    I'm out of ideas. Help!
    Dave.

    hi drooks!
When i try and install a standalone version of quicktime 7.0.2 i get this error - 'a newer version of quicktime is already installed...'
hmmmm. itunes 6.0.x needs at least QT 7.0.3 to run. the 7.0.2 install won't be going through because it seems like there's a corrupted QT 7.0.3 installation gumming up the works for you:
But i get the following message 'the following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation file. c:\windows\system32\quicktime\uninstall.log' so i can't uninstall.
... but this particular QT error message actually tends to respond better to brute force than finesse.
so we won't uninstall the QT first. we'll just try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 install directly "over top" of your existing QT.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.3 to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
will itunes launch properly after that?
    keep us posted.
    love, b

  • Help, iTunes wont start

I was using iTunes this morning and it was working fine. I get back this afternoon and when I click on the iTunes logo in my dock, it jumps one time, the arrow appears under it, then the arrows go away and the icon stops jumping. That's it, no error message, no nothing. I attempted to rectify the situation by uninstalling iTunes, then re-downloading it from Apple and installing it. I installed it ok, went to open it and it did the same thing. I moved my iTunes Library, thinking there might be something wrong in there, and it still wont start up. This is the first problem I have had of any kind since I've had this Powerbook, it'll be a year this October. Can anyone help?
    Powerbook G4, 15in 1.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Try these steps
But I would start with the standalone quicktime install step within the link below, before you try everything else. Make sure to disable antivirus when installing...

  • ITunes wont start the second time

Hi, I posted this problem before but probably because my subject title was a little wide nobody looked at it..
This is my problem, I download iTunes install it everything works fine but after I close itunes or my computer when I want to start iTunes again it wont start???

I have the exact same problem. I use Windows Vista SP1.
iTunes.exe does show up in the task manager, but there is no way I can access it, because it doesn't show up.
I had this problem since I installed the update to iTunes 8. I tried several times to completely uninstall it an reinstall it. Everytime it worked the first time, but failed the second time. Then I uninstalled agan and reinstalled iTunes 7. Same thing, worked first time, failed since then.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is ? There is no error message.
    Thanks in advance!
