Itunes wont update to latest version - Comes up with "unknown component" error message! any ideas how to fix?

Itunes wont sync with iPhone 4 as saying needs a newer version of iTunes, But iTunes wont update
Is bringing up an error message
Could not open Key
Unknown components
Any ideas of a fix?
