ITunes10 64bit Bug: Library Sharing not working

Ever since I upgraded Library sharing stopped working (it last worked in Version 8).
I think the problem is with itunes 64bit. I just uninstalled all Apple Stuff (including Bonjour, Quicktime and Updater) and reinstalled, but still use the same Library.
Sharing from the Notebook (32bit Win7) to AppleRemote (Ipad) or the PC (64bit Win7) works.
But sharing from the MainPC (64bit Win7) on the remote network doesn't work.
I double-checked the Windows Firewall (itunes + bonjour are coming thru)?
Has anybody got more tips for me?
Cheers
Leonard

Once again updating and hoping (praying) somebody will get this:
I still cannot get Library Sharing to work, and I think it is a bug with Windows7 64 Bit Version:
1) Uninstall
I have uninstalled everything as per Knowledge Base http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
I even removed all regstry-entries pointing to Apple software (mainly under HKLM and HKLU). I removed all "Apple Computers" Folders in USER\AppData
2) Re-Install
Reboot & Clean reinstall
New empty itunes library (Removed old itunes Folder in MyMusic)
Imported one CD
3) Sharing
Turned on sharing in the settings.
Started up another PC: nothing:
Started up Apple Remote (2.0.1 - 229) on iPad (iOs 4.2.1): Entered correct four digit code in Itunes
A greyed-out Itunes symbol without a name appears (normally reading "BlaBlas Library")
4) Sharing Part 2
Using the other Computer (Notebook W32bit)
using sharing feature in the other direction (Notebook -> Windows 7 64Bit PC) works
Apple Remote to this PC also works.
5) Sharing Part 3
Created an entire Blank new User with a new empty Itunes Library. Imported one CD: Same Problem.
Conclusion: Bonjour or some other component of ITunes sharing is broken. What should I do. Can I leave a bug report somewhere?
Please help me!

  • Library sharing not working from all accounts

I am using iTunes Library sharing from my iMac to enable access to mucis & movies on ios devices on my local network.  From my login on the iMac this works fine and the shared library appears on the "more" menu in the music app on my ipad whenever itunes is open on the iMac.
I have made the same set up on my daughters login on the same iMac but her shared library will not show up on any devices on the network.  Her shared library is however visible in iTunes when I log into my account on the same iMac via fast user switching.  Other functionality of itunes from her login seems fine & it can airplay to my ATV without problem.
There is no difference in the set up of iTunes between her login and mine:  neither have home sharing enabled, and both have 'share my library on my local network/entire library' selected in itunes prefence.
I have tried with home sharing enabled and this made no difference.
I can only guess that there is a preference pane or similar in her login that is corrupted.  Any ideas welcome.
    Thanks

  • ITunes 10.6.3 home sharing not working properly

iTunes 10.6.3 home sharing not working properly.  I can access with my three ATV2's watch a movie later that same day it tries to access and ATV2 just keeps trying and never gets through to the library.  If I restart iTunes its fine then later can't access.  I am running iTunes 10.6.3 on a i7 Mac Mini with 10.7.4.  Sole job is to be iTunes server and an occasional HTPC with remote buddy running.  I disabled remote buddy ajax remote feature, and file sharing is on so I can load new tracks form other macs Thats it, a vanilla install with all updates.. No problem prior but not sure if problem free period was with 10.6 earler versions or 10.5 versions.  I update as warnings to do so come up.  The remote app has same problem accessing the Home Share.  I disabled home sharing on my iPhone and set to access the old method with 4 digit code and sees all the time and will play to my express base stations so seems to be home sharing issue because iPhone apps with home sharing on and ATV2s have issue accessing.
I'm never home but when I am I use this equipment loads and this weekend not reliable at all.  I have firewall disabled, and setup is as before and is working fine.  I am using Mini by ethernet and using AEBS 1st generation gigabit as router only wired to cable modem and whole house ethernet attached, latest version AEBS gigabit as a wireless bridge and 2 prior version 11n expresses and a 11g express, all expresses are set to wireless off and are connected to ethernet and then to a stereo in 3 different rooms.
I can't be only one.  Considering downgrading to last version of 10.5 but not sure how to do this.
How many of you are having trouble?
    Any resolutions?
    How to report to Apple?
How to downgrade safely? Or is it 10.7.4?

I ran into the specific problem in another thread.  There are more than 100 connections from the apple TV's to iTunes.  You can do a netstat -a (windows or Mac), and verify the problem.  iTunes is smart enough to stop allowing more than 100 connections but stupid to allow the ATV to create so many connections.
Now for what you really want!  Set all of your ATVs to wifi only.  Even setting the iTunes host to wifi might help also.  I think that wifi is more unreliable, and forces connections to drop, keeping the count under 100.
I also turned off ip v6.  That could help you also.  I originally had problems on a Mac mini, and built a windows 7 box to try to fix the problem.  The wifi trick worked on both platforms.  Several of us have bug reports into apple.  I have a wired house also, and am very angry to NEED to use slow wifi to overcome this problem.  The ATV gen 3 has been able to keep up with 1080p over wifi, so it doesn't hurt too much.  What really hurts is spending over 40 hours troubleshooting this bug.

  • Does Home Sharing not work through a network extender?

Home sharing seems to cut out whenever I get into range of my network extender (Airport Express).
Here's my setup, it's pretty standard: Cable modem wired to Airport Extreme router, which is connected wirelessly to the MBP with my iTunes hard drive. All of this is in my living room.
I use the Airport Express to extend my network into the bedrooms.
Whenever I'm home sharing from my iTunes library on my iPhone, if I walk to my bedroom, it cuts out. It usually crashes the iPod app. If it doesn't completely crash it, I can get it to restart buffering if I walk back to the living room.
Does Home Sharing not work with wireless extenders? Do I have to change something in the set up?

However, when a device goes from being attached to one wireless device to another, there is often an interruption as the device must change the radio connection to the network. There is a brief period of no connectivity (a second or two)
Try starting the share while in your bedroom instead of the living room. I'll bet it works.
Makes sense - so it's a bug in the iPhone OS, that it's unable to recover from temporary interruptions to wifi connection?
However, I'm not so sure. Starting the share in the bedroom works as you suggest (since 4.3.2 - didn't under 4.3.1) - but as soon as you go back to the living room and the iPhone connects to a different base station the music stops playing. Note also that the shared library itself ceases to work. So for example you can't be in one room (on the extender) and add the shared library (without actually playing anything yet) then move to another room (on the base station) and play a track from the shared library. It just plays dead and you have to explicitly reload the shared library to get anything to play.
So is it maybe a bug also with iTunes that it can't keep up with a shared library client moving from one wifi station to another?
How do you report these things to the people that matter by the way?

    Hi,
It might be the graphic driver not compitable with the graphic device.  Has there been a change to the graphic driver?
One thing you can try is to uninstall graphic driver and download the latest from Windows Update (if you haven't tried this).  Here are the possible steps:
    1.  Go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Device Manager,  uninstall the graphic card driver by right clicking and select "uninstall".  Make sure the option "Delete the driver software for this device" is selected.
    2.  Reboot the system.
    3.  Go to Control Panel->System and Security->Windows Update, click on "Optional updates" and find the driver for g210 and do the update.

home sharing not working  in version 10.3.6

Home sharing is only supported on version of iTunes that run on OS X 10.5 or later. You could go to the app store and purchase the Mountain Lion update for $19.99, then update iTunes and then it should be easy to set up.

  • ITunes 10.5.1 Home Sharing not working (Windows 7 64 Bit)

Looks like this is being reported by a fair few people on the forums - so just wanted to add my voice.  Since iTunes 10.5 (same in  iTunes 10.5.1) on Windows 7 64 Bit home sharing has stopped working. I have all firewalls disabled on my Windows machine, have tried all the normal suggestions of signing out and back into home sharing on all devices etc.  iTunes Windows library does not show to other devices on the network including iPad, iPhone and Apple TV (all running latest firmware as of 19/11/2011).  Not looking for any responses here from the community, as the problem clearly lies with iTunes on Windows.  Apple please fix!
In the meantime the only way I can use my Apple TV is to sync purchases down to the iPad and then Airplay them to the Apple TV.  Very annoying.  Maybe time to look for an alternative for movie and TV downloads as Apple TV is pointless without it being able to connect to my Windows iTunes library and downloads..

I am having the exact same issue - Homesharing just cuts out - particularly with my Apple TV2.  All updates have been applied all around.  I know it is not the router because I can still access the Apple Store, NEtflicks, and other web-based services.  It is just the Homesharing that gets dropped.
As others have mentioned, closing iTunes and restarting it again helps temporarily.  Really seems to be an iTunes issue.

  • Home sharing not working after update to iTunes 12.1

recenty updated iTunes to 12.1.0.71 64 bit for windows 8.1, and home sharing no longer works with my apple tvs. i have an apple tv 2 with software 7.0.3(6917) and an apple tv 3 aalso on 7.0.3(6917). I have tried the usual troubleshooting. Restoring, restarting, reinstalling itunes, made sure all the neccessary ports are open both on my router and firewall. Still not working. I would appreciate any help.

I have similar issue and already opened another thread for it...no reply so far. So I'll give it a try in here.
    I'm using a Mac Mini (Mid 2010) with 4GB RAM, Yosemite 10.10.2.
The Mac is connected by cable to a Gbit Ethernet network switch.
I hope the following drawing helps to understand the network environment:
    Mac <--> Switch_1 <--> Switch_2 <--> Fire TV
             Switch_1 <--> WLAN Router AVM Fritz!Box 7270 <--> 30MBit Internet connection
The Mac and the Fire TV (running AirPlay server App) are both connected by Ethernet cable, but to different switches.
No WLAN enabled on Fire TV.
The WLAN router is the DHCP server.
For sure the remote App is running on an iPad (2) which is using WLAN.
All network addresses are in same network and were provided by same DHCP server (running on WLAN router).
All my music and internet radio is coming from the Mac.
I use remote app (latest version from Appstore) on the iPad to connect to iTunes 12.0.1.26 running on my Mac.
In iTunes I selected the Fire TV as AirPlay receiver.
Fire TV is playing all music through my AV receiver.
This is working perfectly fine except one issue which exists since update to Yosemite 10.10.0.
It remained same with Yosemite 10.10.1 and 10.10.2.
My problem is that I need to enable WLAN (wireless) on my Mac since update to Yosemite.
When I disable WLAN remote app does not find my media library anymore and iTunes is unable to connect to the Fire TV.
When I re-enable WLAN, everything is working fine again.
Remember, all devices except the iPad are on a cabled 1Gbit Ethernet.
Before updating to Yosemite I did not need WLAN.
Any idea what's causing this? IP traffic routing issue?
Usually, when I disable WLAN on the Mac, it continues to run for 1 or 2 days where the iPad has no problem to find and connect to the media library.
After a while. running with WLAN disabled, my iPad is not able to "see" the iTunes media library asking me to enable home sharing.
When I check on my Mac, home sharing is enabled.
I then disable and re-enabled home sharing in iTunes and after doing so my iPads is able to "see" the iTunes media library but it cannot connect to it.
I checked routing and arp tables on the Mac but everything looked fine, routing through the Ethernet interface.
I used "fing" on the iPad to see which devices are online and "fing" on my iPad was only aware of the Mac Ethernet interface. No entry for the disabled Mac WLAN interface.
I checked on the WLAN router and ensured that both Mac interfaces have unique host names (aliases) on the router.
To be sure everything is refreshed I rebooted the router.
No change, my iPad was able to find the iTunes media library through home sharing but was unable to connect to that media library.
So I enabled WLAN on the Mac and immediately my iPad could connect to the iTunes media library.
    Weird...
Only mitigation I found so far is to re-enable the WLAN on the Mac.
So I assume something is broken in Yosemite / iTunes 12 home sharing.

  • Why does Home Sharing not work on iTunes 10.5.3 between a Windows PC and MacBook Pro?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop which is my older laptop, consisting of all my music, apps and so on. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro (latest version) and would like to use Home Sharing to browse my music libraries and so on on there. However, I find that I am unable to do this, after several methods I have attempted in order to resolve this issue.
The Home Sharing on the left column does not appear at all.
I have upgraded iTunes on both laptops to the latest version yesterday, which I assume is iTunes version 10.5.3.
I have turned off Home Sharing, and turned it on a few times.
I use the same Apple ID to log in to Home Sharing.
I named both playlists/music libraries to the same name - not sure if this is a way to 'fix' the problem but I saw it in a thread.
I tried all the above methods, but to no avail. Home Sharing still does not work - in fact, it does not even appear on the left column; it disappears as soon as I turn on Home Sharing.
    Help is very muchly appreciated.
    Thank you very much!

First, each Library should have a unique name, not the same name.
Now, I wrote an extensive how-to in another thread that explains Home Sharing, Library Sharing, how to turn them on and identify them and so on. See if it helps you with your problem.

  • Library sharing only works on wifi

    Hi,
Please help. I am running an iMac with OS 10.6.8 and a Samsung netbook NC10 running Windows XP. Both machines are in the same LAN, with a router of Sitecom to connect them and create internet availabilty.
When I run the Airport Express on the iMac the netbook itunes can see the itunes library of the iMac. When I just have the ethernet running, the library is not visible. What is blocking the sharing opportunity of the library of the iMac?
I would like to have only one library I actively use and update and play music on the netbook in the living room, connected to the amplifier.
    Thanks!

Have you enabled your phone to use Cellular Data for iTunes Match?  If not it will only work on WiFi.
The other possibility that I read is that there is a weird glitch in Apple's Terms and Service which changed recently.  Apparently until you accept the new T&C the iTunes Match will skip on cellular.  Annoyingly it seams the only way to get the new T&Cs to show for you to accept them is to go buy a new song.

  • Screen Sharing not working on server

One of the (remote) servers I manage no longer allows me to share it's screen. The error I get says that screen sharing is disabled.
I attempted to fix it using kickstart, and while kickstart reported no errors, I'm still unable to share the screen.
For reference, this is the kickstart command I used:
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -activate -configure -access -on -users admin -privs -all -restart -agent -menu
I've also noticed that there are extra interfaces enabled, that are definitely not there on my other servers. Not sure if it's related, but I thought it was worth pointing out.
    Any ideas?

My Mini is running server headless and it works fine for Remote Desktop.  Are you using ARD or standard Screen Sharing from OSX?  Or a VNC client?
    Take a look at:
    http://technotes.twosmallcoins.com/?p=279
For some notes on how to start the VNC server from the SSH command line.
But, screen sharing should work for you.

  • Itunes Sharing not working over wireless

I have three PC's both running the latest version of ITunes.
Desktop 1 is running Windows XP and connects directly into the Action Tec Router via a wired connection.
Laptop 1 is running Windows 7 and connects to the Action Tec router via a wireless connection.
Laptop 2 is running Windows Vista and connects to the Action Tec router via a wireless connection.
All PC's can connect on the Internet.  The wireless connection uses WPA/PSK.  Any firewalls are disabled.
Desktop 1 can see the Library of both Laptop 1 and Laptop 2.  From Desktop 1, When I click the library of laptop 1 Itunes says "laptop1 library is not responding".
Laptop 1 and Laptop 2 do not see the library of either Desktop 1 or the other Laptop.
If I move Laptop 1 from a wireless connection to a wired connection, the sharing works fine.
Anyone know why the wireless is causing Itunes sharing to not work?
    Thanks, Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So this morning I was playing the Windows 7 laptop and decided to delete my windows wireless profile on the laptop called home and my existing home SSID on the Verizon router.  I created a new SSID called boo with no security.  I connected to that SSID and Itunes sharing worked between the desktop and laptop.  I then added WPA2/PSK to the boo SSID and sharing still worked.  Finally I went back to my original SSID called home and WPA2/PSK, recreated the home profile and Itunes sharing worked again.
I then went to the Windows Vista Laptop and without making any changes to it, Itunes sharing worked.
So in the end it seems deleting the current SSID configuration and rebuilding it on the verizon router cured the problem (for now).

  • ITunes sharing not working at all

I have been trying to set up a LAN so that I can play music from the computer upstairs via my laptop downstairs. At the moment the 2 machines are connected directly with an ethernet cable, so it's not a router problem (every thread I find on this topic blames this on routers).
My laptop is a MacBook running OSX 10.4.11, using the latest version of iTunes (8-something), and the computer is a PPC G3 running OSX 10.4.11, also on the latest version of iTunes (it updated this morning). The laptop can see the library on the computer, but not load it (error 3259) and keeps telling me to check firewall / ports. The firewalls on BOTH computers have been disabled, and the ports have been checked & are correct (3689). The G3 does not even show the iTunes library from the laptop in iTunes though!
I have tried scrapping the iTunes preferences files on both machines & restarting iTunes. They both seem to be able to find each other / open files through the 'network' feature in finder (although I had problems with that earlier), but iTunes sharing is not working at all.
What can I do? Some threads suggest problems with Bonjour or QuickTime, but I don't know if these are relevant at all. As others have commented: lots of threads on the net about this but no answers!

turns out you need to be sure the computers are connected before starting iTunes on either one for this to work.
I just got this working - through the router as well - with no problems at all following this method.
It doesn't mention this at all in apple's instructions.
