ITunesHelper Login Item

So, because I have a problem with having unnecessary things running on my computer, I first unchecked the Hide button to see what might happen after logging in... nothing. So, I deleted it from the login items and looked to see what happened.... nothing. After going into iTunes, of course the helper and search functions under iTunes Help didn't work. I almost figured this would happen. So, I tried to add it back, but could only get the iTunes app in there. So, I went through the Resources folder and found the iTunesHelper app and dragged it into my login items and everything worked fine again.
My question is, why does my computer need iTunesHelper to be able to access any help function in Finder, iTunes, or generally Mac OS X?

As far as I can tell iTuneshelper affects plugin devices. That is; I removed it from the login section of my account and when I plug my iphone into the computer it will not open iTunes. If I run ituneshelper after I have closed iTunes and then plug in my phone it will open and sync with iTunes.

  • ITunesHelper Login Item - Yellow Exclamation Mark

    Hey people!
I was checking my login items and saw that next to the iTunesHelper there was a yellow exclamation mark... It said that "this item could not be found"... I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion and it is a bit slow.. You think this could be a contributing factor?

    It's old. Remove it.
If you go into you iTunes settings, the checkbox to have it open iTunes when you attach a phone or ipad is what causes it to be placed in the login items.
    Not likely.

  • Ituneshelper keeps appearing on login items

I keep unchecking ituneshelper in my users and groups, login items, but for some reason it keeps reapperaing and I don't know why. I don't want it to keep appearing on my login items.

I see, OK try making the change and then restarting in Safe Mode. This will clear some caches, it is possible one if corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode hold down the Shift Key when you hear the startup tone until a progress bar appears and let the machine boot. Then restart normally and test. If that does not take care of it look in the apps preferences and see if there is anything about launching on startup. If there is nothing there look for the app on the Dock and right click and ensure it's not set to launch on start up. Finally if that does not do it you may need to remove teh apps Plist file as it may be corrupt.

  • Help!!! I deleted "ituneshelper" on SystemPrefs/Accounts/login items

    Hello Apple Discussions Community.
I deleted from Login Items, located in Accounts on System Preferences, the "iTunesHelper" item.
I would like to retrieve this link again, but it is a part of the iTunes Package, therefore, it is not possible to add it using the "+" button.
I would like to know if there is a command on Terminal or other way to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jose Blanco.

Hello. I know this procedure, another thing was missing, that it's necessary to drag the icon to the LoginItems window to add it. I discovered it after following your suggestion.
    Thanks!!!

  • Do I need "iTunesHelper" as a Login Item?

I'm running Lion on a new 15" MBP.  I'm trying to have as few Login Items as possible, and wonder what iTunes Helper actually does, and do I need it as a Login Item?
    Thanks in advance ...

Well, I'm tweaking OS X Lion too, and i dont have an iPad, iPhone or anything like that,
and will only run as few unused services / daemons running as needed, less of a security risk,
so i'm not sure how comfortable you are with doing things like this, but I removed iTunes.helper
from the OS completely, as well as AppleSpell.service. its ok if you now what you're doing.
disabling it from is ok, until you start iTunes, then it runs forever. This is an problem with modern OS's nowadays.

  • Login items not saved

I haven't read about this one yet so I thought I should at least mention it. Since my upgrade to 10.9 the login items for my (admin) user account are not being saved. After a reboot the list is empty again. I have re-entered them several times but that just seems a bit pointless now   Also repaired permissions on the OS X drive, just for good measure but to no avail. Login items are Mail, Messages and just one third party app: Google Chrome.
So.... Bug or something else I should try?

This happened to me from an out-the-box mac without any 3rd party software installed which makes me think this is a mavericks issue as opposed to anything else installed after.
Im not trying to be a dick BTW.

  • Blue Screen; Login Items

Excuse me if this posted twice by accident -  I was interrupted by an Apple temp out of order message...
My g5 iMac stalls at the blue screen upon startup. This machine was purchased new in 2005. It has a 500 GB HD. I've searched thru other posts and have tried many suggestions. It does run fine in Safe Mode. I have tried Guest Login, which has never been used, but that did the same thing. Could somebody take a look at my Login Items to see if any look suspicious, or at least tell me which ones I can delete?

Have you booted from your install disc and run Apple Hardware Test?  Have you run
    Disk Utility?
       1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
       3. Click the First Aid tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

  • In regards to Users & Groups, & Login items- in System Prefs...

  • Wanted/unwanted login items

A strange problem has popped up on my machine recently... iTunes launches on login even though it's not on my list of login items in my account prefs pane. And iCal won't login when I add it to the list. In fact it disappears from the list after every restart. I've repaired permissions, etc and used maintenance programs to clean up and optimize my system but still the same...
could it be a plist problem with the login items?
iMac 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Any thoughts on the material below would be appreciated.
    My login items now show:
    LCCDaemon
    Skype
    iTunesHelper
    WashingMachineHelper
Would any of these interfere with TimeMachine?
I'm not sure where the TimeMachine application is started. Where is it?
TimeMachine appears to have been running since July 12, 2009, which is probably when I installed Leopard. (Though I wonder, with Leopard being up to 10.5.8.) There are backups at various intervals since then. I didn't notice any lack of backups with Backup Engine 3 being installed.
This is the first time, however, that I've wanted to retrieve a file. And I can't find the backup. Sigh.

  • Startup/Login Items

Okay I have a very quick question about my startup/login items (whatever they are called). Under Accounts in system preferences I notice I have three items in the login items. They are Microsoft AU Daemon (I use Office 04), iTunesHelper, and AdobeResourceSynchroni (I have the Design Premium Suite). I want to know what these do and if its safe to get rid of them. If it is how would I do it.

    Microsoft AU Daemon
This checks for updates to Microsoft Office.
    iTunesHelper
This tool automatically launches iTunes when an iPod is connected, and performs some other functions.
    AdobeResourceSynchroni
This checks for updates to installed Adobe software.

  • Mystery Login Items - apple-scc

In Sys Prefs, User and Groups, Login Items Tab, there are a few apps that I expect, e.g. iTunesHelper.
But there are two oddballs: both have names starting with apple-scc, then numerals, e.g. apple-scc- 12345678-12456. Both have a yellow triangle with exclamation mark beside them. Neither are enabled.
    What are they?

Do you have FaceTime video and audio set as login items?

If you do not lock that folder immediately after deleting all the contents, it will simply populate again (Resume - a "feature" in Lion). You do that by doing a Get Info (highlight folder and press Command + I keys), unlock the lock at the bottom, enter your admin password, then check the box to lock the folder. lock the lock and you're done.
Yes, that is correct. The alternative is to quit all applications prior to logging out. Lion will then have a chance to remove the saved states.

    And, for the OP:
It has also been a regular feature of Mac OS to automatically open any window that was open at shutdown. To avoit that behavior, simply close any Finder windows and  properly quit applications by closing their window and using Command + Q (or File >Quit).
This was true only for the Finder. Prior to Lion, no other apps would launch unless they were included in the Login Items for the account. And the OS would not restore windows for other apps.
A very small number of apps (TextWrangler is an example) implemented this capability prior to Lion. They could restore previously opened windows. But that is an application feature, and can be controlled by the application's preferences. Lion implements it at the system level, and users have virtually no control on a per application basis.

Make sure you close iTunes before shutdown.  And you're quite welcome.

    Hi r,
It sounds like you're running Lion?
Have you tried running Verify and/or Repair Disk?
Have you tried running Repair Permissions?
Do you have at least 15% free space available on your HD?

  • Cannot delete login item "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator"

We migrated a server (ldap and file serving) to some new machines, which have new names.  We've got all of the login and file sharing functionality working on the new machines, but wherever we have a mount of a share in the Login Items for a user, we can't get the old machine out of the Login Items.  It's not fatal, but it does make login take a lot longer because it has to fail first.
We can mount the share from the new server, and save THAT in a NEW Login Item just fine -- it's just that when you click on the old defunct one the minus sign is greyed out, and the mouseover says "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator."  There is a yellow triangle next to the item in the list.  Went into the user's ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist and it's not in the file.  The /Library/Preferences don't have anything that looks like a plist of the right name.
Where do I find it and how do I get rid of it?

In response to ManishBhatt94's post today, I may have some information that may be useful to you. I called Microsoft's 800-642-7676 and spoke with a technical representative with questions pertaining to my particular issue. I also have friend that has the
same issue with her computer running windows 8. A representative from my ISP told me how to go into 1)Tools, 2)Internet Options, 3)Connections, 4)LAN settings and uncheck the proxy settings box. However after restarting or shutting down my computer it reappears.
It will also reappears while I play games on Facebook not allowing me continue until I go back into the proxy settings in LAN and uncheck the box AGAIN and AGAIN. A local owner of a computer repair shop told my friend that it was a virus. After speaking with
Microsoft today I was told the same thing/it was more than likely a virus on my personal PC at home. As most people likely do,  I use wireless internet in my home on the affected computer. Solution; as suggested by Microsoft rep was to have the virus
professionally removed either by someone or to use their remote service for a fee of $149 which comes with several guarantees and does not require you to re-install software or documents. I hope that my response was of some help to you. I also kept trying
to fix this problem but wasted a lot of time. He also suggested to Google the proxy problem to see if ANYONE has any alternatives to fixing this problem!
