Itunesprefs.xm.

How can I set the preferences to C:\Music for all users across the enterprise. Right now it seems to point to the default My Documents\my music folder. I can change it with the itunes software, which changes the itunesprefs.xml file but I cannot then take that file and put it on some elses PC.

The Sirius XM Radio App doesn't natively support Airplay, but I found a workaround to get it working. The trick is to start airplaying a song from within the ipod app, then pause your song. Then switch back to the Siruis/XM Radio app and select a station and it should use the airplay session already opened via the ipod app. The only issue I've experienced is periodically the music skips on me when I get too far from my access point. My iphone is on wifi and my appletv is on a wired connection.
Hope this helps! - James

  • How to find out the structure of storing settings in iTunesPrefs.xml?

In iTunes settings are stored in the iTunesPrefs.xml! It is used to store base64.. I need to know what to read and write, you have to know the structure of storage options. Someone have an idea how to do it? The first thing that occurred to me, to trace the call stack, and with IDA to disassemble the right given and look for, but it is a very complex way.

    hi,
Go to transaction ST05,Click activate trace with filter,Give the transactio name as cj31,Go to the transaction and navigate to the place where the particular field is present, then again go to st05 ,Deactivate the trace and display the trace.
Now u can see how the data is fetched ,U can even go to display mode of the same transaction cj33

  • Getting message E:\iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs corrupt or unreadable

I only bought my iPod three weeks ago, and everything had been running smoothly.
But today while putting a playlist together my whole memory (7 gb) was wiped (it was on the manual update setting) and I cannot explain why.
Now I keep getting the message that file or directory E:\iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs is corrupt or unreadable.
When I attach my iPod, it keeps wanting me to register again, which has no effect on the problem at hand. The iPod icon comes up in the source column and my iPod can be updated with what's in my iTunes library and the screen shows that a certain amount of available memory has been used.
However when it is disconnected and I try to use the iPod there are no files on it.

  • File or directory \ipod_control\itunes\itunesprefs is corrupt or unreadable

Every time I connect my ipod (30g video) to my computer it pops up the "ipod setup assistant". Then I get a message on the bottom right of my computer screen that says "file or directory \ipod_control\itunes\itunesprefs is corrupt or unreadable, please run chkdsk. I ran chkdsk and it didn't help. I'm sure this is an easy problem, but I am clueless. Can anyone help?

    Greetings,
What you want to do here is to Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater.
    Restoring: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
    iPod Updater: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
We have been discussing the chkdsk issue since Nov 2004, when it was introduced by some particularly buggy iPod firmware.
For more info visit our thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=179452
and the Apple KB article on the issue: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300554
Feel free to post back should you require further assistance. There is a whole stack of information on the chkdsk issue, but I won't seek to bore you with it here...
I add a note of caution - in that chkdsk issues usually affect Gen4+ iPods, and you have a Gen5. If the Restore does not solve your problems, let us know. I have been consulting on some cases where a hardware fault was to blame, and the user had to get their Pod changed out...
    Kind regards,

  • ITunes 11 deleting my iTunesPrefs.xml file

    Hello,
Ever since the latest upgrade of iTunes, nearly every time I start iTunes, I am prompted with the license agreement we're required to check agreement to at each upgrade. Additionally all of my Preferences have been reset to default.
I discovered that iTunes is deleting my iTunesPrefs.xml file and creating a new one.
I was able to grab an old backup copy of the file and now if I see the license prompt, I click Decline and then copy the preferences file to the iTunes folder in AppData and restart iTunes. This puts a bandaid on the problem, but does not solve it. Copying the file to the directory has become annoying.
Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, any ideas as to what to do to solve it?
    Thanks.

    Hi mynameisnotjoe,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I'd suggest starting with the steps in the "additional troubleshooting" section of this article:

  • I have itunes directory on an external hard drive and want to direct a new installation of itunes on windows 8 to use it. I tried holding down ctrl and clicking itunes and after many tries got it to work one time. When I went back in later it had reverted

I have itunes directory on an external hard drive and want to direct a new installation of itunes on windows 8 to use it. I tried holding down ctrl and clicking itunes and after many tries got it to work one time. When I went back in later it had reverted back to a blank version of itunes and I cant get ctrl to work again. Any other ideas?

This is sometimes caused by a problem with the iTunesPrefs.xml file, normally found at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml. Try dragging this to the desktop and trying again.
Alternatively the problem may be that you have McAfee AV and it is preventing iTunes from updating the same file and thus causing the problem. See Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? for details.

  • Every time I open it it's like the first time

Just moved to  a new system and had to re download itunes. now every time I open it it's like the first time having to  agree to the legal stuff and re adding the tool bars etc. Please help I have a windows 7 64 bit system and my old system was the same so I do not know why I'm having this problem!

McAfee AntiVirus by any chance? See the thread Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml?
Or it could be an issue with the SC Info folder. See TS1277 - iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization for details.

  • Cannot open itunes store

A problem more ppl have to deal with as i can see on this forum, but none of the info i found here helped me so far.
When i try to open the store in Itunes on my PC (Win XP), it tries to load, but stops after a while and leaves me with a blanc screen (well, it's says 'Itunes store' in big, but i geus that's just the background). It doesn't give any errors or what so ever. besides that, my internet connection shuts down when opening Itunes . Well, it is still there, but my browser won't even open a simple website anymore. When Itunes is closed again, browser isn't a problem anymore
My OS is up to date, i'm not using any Norton products (or did so in the past) and didn't had this problem before, only after the last update. Didn't install any significant new software that in any way should or could intervene.
    I already tried the following:
-uninstall and re-install Itunes (latest version)
-Uninstall and re-install all apple-products, including Itunes
-scanned the system on virusses, mallware or any of that stuff, register-errors etc.etc.
    -check/disable firewall (well, firewalls actually)
-check/disable proxy settings (and i don't even use a proxy)
    -deleting the Itunespref-file
that's about all the possible solutions i found that might work, but non of them did.

no problem accesing the store on iphone or ipad using the same network
does anyone has some briljant ideas, cause i'm running out of them!

    ok, i'm stunnend.
apparently there was something that resolved the issue, the store works fine now... have been hacking around on this for days, and now, just at once. only thing i did (and i did that before, naturally, it's one of the first things you trie) is disable my antivirus software. It runs perfectly with antivirus enabled now to....beats me...
    anyway: resolved!

  • ITunes keeps creating a new iTunes Library instead of going to my actual iTunes Library on my external drive.

    My old computer died.
Luckily, my iTunes library is stored on an external drive.
My new machine is Windows 8 and my old machine was Vista, but I don't think that should cause any problem.
When I run iTunes, it comes up like a fresh install on a new machine... every time. By default, it creates an iTunes folder in my local drive and as such, has no music in and is a 100% blank slate.
When I point it to my external drive, and then import the library, it does it. All my music shows up -- after a long time, but it all shows up.
If I shut down iTunes or reboot, everything goes back to zero again.
The most disturbing thing about this is that I can't back up properly, because -- although in Preferences it's pointed at my external drive -- it's backing up my iPhone 5 to the local drive in Windows.
Any idea what's going on here?
I've gone through this process 5 times already and it's always the same.

There are two main components to the iTunes library. The media folder which you can adjust via Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and the database file iTunes Library.itl which is normally found in <User's Music>\iTunes. You can choose or create a new iTunes library by holding down shift as you launch iTunes.
In some cases third party software can interfere with the way iTunes updates its files meaning that either iTunes forgets the previously chosen location, or that the active database is deleted. AVG anti-virus and Sony VIAO Entertainment Platform typically interfere with the database. McAfee has been implicated in the corruption of iTunesPrefs.plist.
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for more details on how you might recover after the library vanishes.
You may get some improvment by hosting your entire library on the external drive not just the media. E.g. Create a library at X:\iTunes where X: is the drive letter, then move the media into X:\iTunes\iTunes Media before adding it to the library. This will make it easier to backup the library to a second drive and move it between computers when the time comes.

  • IE10 Windows7 - iTunes opens maybe 3 times and then it thinks i am a new user.  I ge the license agreement again.  Apple SR Techs cannot figure it out.  Does this have to do with IE10?

Windows 7 - installed IE10.  Now every few times iTunes is opened I get the 'user license' agreement as if i am a new user.  Apple SR techs have been working with me for weeks and have NOT solved this problem.  i have a iPhone 4S, but this happens before I even plug in.  Can you help?  Also, second question:
Also, I have two apple accounts (mistake) and apple says that they cannot delete the invalid one!  When I finally can get on iTunes it asks if I want to merge or replace - I am told to do neither (i am syncing by plugging in the 4S to my computer - i have Outlook).  SO... right now i am unable to sync.  SR Tech says having the 2 accounts is not the problem - actually - 2 techs said it was and 1 says it is not.  SO frustrating!  Is there a way to resolve this?
    Thanks - CJ Texas

McAfee AntiVirus by any chance? See the thread Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml?
Not so sure about the suplemental question, but see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for tips to make sure you don't lose content from the device.

  • Silent install of itunes 10.6.1.7 suite on x86 or x64 issues

I have been following user blog sites that mention using the IS_ASU property set to 1 (instead of the default 0) so it will disable the Accept License Screen on first launch. However when I create the MST file for this it still prompts for the eula. I know the other options such as REGSRCH_DESKTOP_SHORTCUTS, remove about itunes icon are working, so the MST itself is working, just not the auto except eula. The user community doesnt like popups/questions/options/etc so having the eula popup is considered total failure.
    Thanks!

Appears IS_ASU is depreciated? An adminstudio tuner included iTunesPrefs.xml dropped in CommonAppDataFolder = %AppData%\Apple Computer\iTunes\ works AOK.

Okay, so I've tried this, and it didn't work:
    1.C drive/user folder/your username/app data/local/applecomputer folder/(delete cache file here)/then enter itunes folder/(delete itunesprefs here).
    2. C drive/user folder/your username/appdata/roaming/applecomputer/itunes folder(delete itunesprefs here).
I then clicked Ituneson my desktop, accepted the agreements, let it auto configure, said yes to auto arrange folders, all my music was still there. Clicked itunes store and VIOLA!
*BUT THEN I FOUND THIS, AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!*
*None of these solutions works for me. Not sure how many others have the issue I've been having with Win7, but I found that you could fix the connectivity problem like this:*
*Control Panel/Internet Options/Advanced Tab, click "Reset Internet Explorer Settings"*
*When that's done, start iTunes. This seems to be a recurring problem when I switch between networks and VPNs between work and home. Since I can't seem to solve it, I switched to Firefox, but iTunes is sensitive to the IE problem.*
    *THANK YOU solidifier !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

  • Vista..Can't connect to the iTunes store... Could before, but not now...

I recently had a problem with not being able to connect to the iTunes store on Vista. I was able to connect, and then all of a sudden one day it wouldn't connect. When I tried to go to the iTunes store it would give me the box that is the same as the one you see in a web browser when you click on a link to iTunes that says "One moment Please, Connecting to the iTunes store...". Only it was in iTunes and wouldn't go to the store. It just sat there saying "Loading...".
After going to the powers that be at Apple/Support to no avail, I googled it and found this.
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Delete the iTunesPrefs.xml file from C:\Users\+user name+\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes.
    3. Delete the iTunesPrefs.xml file from C:\Users\+user name+\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes.
    4. Launch iTunes & follow the setup prompts
This will make it like it's the first time you have used iTunes and may import duplicates you have in WMP, so unchceck this option when you come to it. You will not lose any of the music in your iTunes library, just the annoying connection problem. I hope this helps someone!!

    Couple of things to try:
Allow itunes and itunes helper in your AV/Security software firewall (not just in the windows firewall)
You diagnostics show that you are using a proxy, can you change this?

  • Why is the latest version of iTunes having difficulty recognising my Apple ID?

This past week, I have been unable to access my iTunes library on my home iMac from my wired Apple TV which was working perfectly well before. No other changes apart from upgrades to Mountain Lion and latest iTunes version as per Software Update. I have now discovered that I cannot sync my iPhone with iTunes and the same thing is happening with my iPod too. There appears to be a problem with iTunes recognising my Apple ID as I am repeatedly being asked to enter my Apple ID but it would not accept my username and password. Interestingly, iTunes, pre-populates the username with my hotmail account (which I rarely use) rather than my me.com address. I have no problem accessing iCloud.
This is incredibly frustrating as I am unable to sync any of my devices with iTunes. iTunes tells me that my home iMac is not an authorised computer and when I do authorise it, it goes through the same loop repeatedly.Tried the usual quitting, restarting, deauthorising then re-authorising my iTunes account, etc.
Anyone has any idea what is happening?

You are not having my exact same problem, but try this:
    1. Browse to "C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming" in Windows Explorer.
    2. Rename the "Apple Computer" folder to "Apple Computer-old".
    3. Start iTunes
    4. Close iTunes
    5. Copy the file "iTunesPrefs.xml" from "C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer-old\iTunes"
    6. Paste the old "iTunesPrefs.xml" into the new "Apple Computer\iTunes" folder iTunes just created (not the one you renamed) under "C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer-old\iTunes"
    7. Overwrite the new iTunesPrefs.xml with your old copy of the file.
If you don't care about losing your iTunes preferences then you can just do step 2. You can always go back and grab things from the old folder later if you realize you wanted to have your EQ settings, individual track gains, etc...
