ITunesU usage report - unknown users account

I just got my first usage report and noticed these unfamiliar accounts. Can someone describe what these accounts are?

I'd have to see your transfer script to verify it, but it looks like you're using generic values for some of the values you're passing to Apple in your identity token.

  • Unknown user account

I have Windows7 RC on my system, earlier i had windows xp SP2. Recently i noticed an unknown user account (S-1-5-21-XXXXX......) in the security tab of few of the folders/files. But this user does not show up in the local user group in the control panel. Any idea what this account is and how to remove it?

I know this thread is 4 years old, but there doesnt seem to be a better one so I'll respond here.
This is actually pretty easy to fix (really! like 30 sec).
Right click on the root drive
    go to security
    click advanced
tick @"replace all child..." at the bottom and then
change the owner at the top (even if you have the right owner for this object)
pick a new owner (eg your admin)
now back at the advanced security settings screen tick "replace owner on subcontainers"
make sure youve got the right level of access (eg full control)
    click apply
    wait. :)

  • Unknown User account appears on login page

    Hi,
Recently on my Login Page an unknown user has appeared on my computer. When I go to administer accounts the unknown user does not appear.
It has it's own avatar too...a human shadow with outer space in back of it.
I recently set up a myspace.com account, but that should not have done it.
I cannot get this thing off my computer and I fear I am being hacked.
Can anyone help me get rid of this thing and/or explain to me what it is?
    Thanks, RWard

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
I went to the link you noted but was unable to find 'security' in the linkTrue, all it says there is
The root user should only be used for specific administration or monitoring tasks. After completing a task as the root user, log out of Mac OS X and log back in using a normal or administrator user account.
Disable root access if you do not use it often. However, if anyone does manage to hack into your machine, he can do more damage if there is an enabled root account (he still has to guess the password of course). If root is disabled, that's another barrier.

  • Accessing an Unknown User account

Sorry if this is covered I could only find how to get rid on them and I need to access them not get rid of them.
I had a system crash with a blue screen. When it came back there was only a temp profile loading. In System Properties
under the tab Advanced button User Profiles
I have two Unknown Users listed with sizes listed. There is no folder for them under Users nor a listing in the system management in control panel. I cannot find these anywhere I could access them to pull files.
After some time I switched her  to a local profile because of size limitations on the server and letting the profile rebuilt from the server copy I found that a large chunk of profile went missing. I believe it is in one of these two "Account Unknown"
users that show in the accounts list where you set to local accounts.
Problem I have is I don't have a profile folder to pull from. Yet I see this large profile listed.
My question is there any way I can get into that profile to retrieve those missing files? I have been reading posts about this for days and they are all what are these profiles and how do I make them go away. Well I need into them.
    Hope you can help,
    thank you,
    Ric

I have tried a data recovery software. I have Data Rescue. It finds all sorts of deleted files. the problems are I have no idea if they are from the missing profile. reason being the profile was not deleted be someone it was dumped after a system crash and
was gone from the user folder after a reboot from a bluescreen. Now you can see them here and I really need to access them in the profile's structure as it was on the system IE the desktop and DOCUMENT folders and so on.
Now does someone know how to do that? I have a  screen shot but I have to wait to show it. well the profile the unknown is listed as 2.3GB.
Also if the fix need to run in other OS I can make it work I'm good a few different ones.
Thank you anyone that can help.

  • How can I view and manage disk usage from all user accounts at once?

I need to clean up the internal drive on my 2009 MBP.  We have 6 accounts on that machine.  Rather than go into each account separately and do some house cleaning, is there some kind of Admin option to view and clean up files for all accounts from one central location?
    Thanks very much,
    Bo

I guess I am trying to find out if there are any admin tools available for "regular" OS X.  Not OS X server.
    Thanks

  • Can you set disk usage limits for user accounts?

i work in the media department at my college and were trying to set up disk limits for our classes. we have powermacs with 6 class login accounts. we want to limit each account to occupy up to 20gbs of disk space. can this be done? i should add too that we are on a budget.

A UNIX quota system is included with OS X. I have never fooled with it but perhaps this will help:

  • Where is the xls iTunesU usage reports?

After the introduction of reports in the Public Site Manager I stopped reseaving my wonderful xls sheets full of stats for the -dz site
I have a complete automatic workflow set up to analyze and show all the statistics, is this now totally obsulete and useless?
Downloading raw reports ONE DAY AT A TIME! is such a time huge waste of time compared to adding ONE xls sheet per month.
I really hope there is a way to bring the xls back!!?

I hope this is already discussed before,so I want to share the link with you :- https://discussions.apple.com/message/17729561#17729561

  • Application Usage Report not working

I'm using ARD 3.1 to help manage 190 10.4.8 clients.
I have the data settings for all my client computers set to collect application usage data and user accounting data. I have not set them to upload the data to an ARD server. I assume that this means the usage data will be stored on each client and when I request an application usage report from a client it will be available to upload.
When I request the application usage report the task fails with the message "Couldn't collect report data".
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

I believe that, if you you disable uploading, it automatically disables the automatic report data generation on the clients... but I may be wrong. In order to track application usage and user accounting, I you might need to enable the automatic uploading.
The other thing to try would be to check the "Rebuild data for report" checkbox when running a report. This is the "hint" to the client that it needs to send data to the admin.

  • RAR 5.3 - Action Usage Reports

    Hello,
In regards to the Action Usage reports in RAR 5.3 (one for users and the other for roles/profiles):
    1) Does this report pull information on dialog and non-dialog users?
    2) Is there any further documentation on these reports? The user guide doesn't elaborate much...
    Thanks!
    Jes

    Thank you for your response.
We have actually just begun testing this particular report to review/verify results. One issue we're seeing however is that this Action Usage report for users is only returning results by system, not by client. What I mean by that is this: we have several sandbox clients connected to RAR 5.3 (an SB 120 and and SB 500 - so two clients from the same system, along with various other clients from other systems). When we run the Action Usage report specifically for SB 120, we are getting action usage for SB 120 and SB 500, even though we did not include SB 500 in the parameters. The same results show up when running this report in SB 500.
So what we are seeing is that this report is lumping all transactions from a system together instead of separating them out by client. I am unable to find any detailed documentation on this so could anyone explain to me if this is possibly a bug or am I missing something?
    Thanks!

  • Unknown User after reinstall

I recently archived and installed OSX Leopard and pulled my accounts and apps back in. Now I notice there is an "Unknown" user account on the system and I can't delete it when running as admin. I am thinking of nuking and paving the hard drive with a clean install of Leopard and then use migration assistant to migrate just the apps.
If I understand correctly, I need to create a new admin account, a new limited account (if desired) and migrate the apps over to the new OS. This get rid of any suspicious accounts; am I correct?

..."Frankly, I don't think any Finder version has been very good at manipulating or displaying permissions info."...
Permissions are another facet, but distinct from owner and group. Apart from the fact that the "Enclosed Items" aspect could be problematic, and the same bad terminology "(unknown)" was used, I find it hard to find fault with earlier "Get Info" versions when it came to basic owner / group settings on individual items. It was possible to change owner or group by choosing from a list any that were configured on the system (the list contained them all), or configure the "Finder" so that you could manually type a numerical value for those that weren't. With respect to owner / group settings for an individual item, I can't think of anything that you could do from the command line that you couldn't do from "Get Info".
Compare this to Leopard's where the list doesn't even include all users / groups (eg. try to manually set a system file to "root:wheel" from Leopard's "Get Info"), and as far as I know, there is no way to input values manually. Plus the almost complete inability to change the "group" at all.
In previous OS X versions, the "solution" to the questions posed in this thread would likely have been a simple case of telling the poster to "use Get Info, authenticating if necessary, to change the owner and group from '(unknown)' to something else".
Leopard's implementation is inadequate, not by any unreasonably high standards that I might have, but even in comparison to the capabilities of Apple's own previous versions. It can't be viewed as anything other than a functional downgrade which users have arbitrarily been subjected to.

Using service account then i will get the soluction or what?
pls help me out it is urgent based.
    Regards
    Thanks!

    Hi Ychinnari,
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, as
Vaishu00547 mentioned that the issue can be caused by the Execution Account you have configured in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager is not correct, Please update the Username and Password and restart the reporting services.
Please also find more details information about when to use the execution account, if possible, please also not specify this account:
This account is used under special circumstances when other sources of credentials are not available:
When the report server connects to a data source that does not require credentials. Examples of data sources that might not require credentials include XML documents and some client-side database applications.
When the report server connects to another server to retrieve external image files or other resources that are referenced in a report.
    Execution Account (SSRS Native Mode)
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • 'Unknown user' problem in Guest account

    Hello.
Remember the unknown user problem in the Finder that plagued everyone that upgraded from Tiger? Thanks to someone on these boards' AppleScript, I managed to fix that for my account eventually and get it changed to staff for every file and folder.
However, I just checked out my Guest account in Leopard, and when I do a Get Info on the home folder, the public folder and the sites folder, the unknown user still appears.
What do I need to do to fix this?
Would reinstalling Leopard sort it out by the way? I don't want to do it because it would create countless hassles, but is there a way of reinstalling Leopard that lets me keep my own home folder and applications while killing all the permissions problems?

Does it properly refuse authentication ? Or does the login page stop appearing or something ?
There was a bug with the webauth dying under heavy load, regardless of number of identical accounts used.
One good way for you to check would be, when problem occurs, to create a second backup guest user and see if that would start working. If it doesn't, the account is not the problem.
I'm not aware of any maximum of usage of the same account.
Which 4.2 exactly are you running ?

  • User Usage Report

I want to generate a report on the usage of users account within our database. Do you know of any simple software/ procedure that enables me to create a list of data containing the last logins or the complete login history of all logins.
    I am using oracle 8.

    Sicco,
There is a whole host of ways to track usage from using the database log files to writing your own tracking mechanism. You need to determine what level of tracking you want and what performance penalty your willing to accept. Writing tracking information does impact performance. Check out your database reference manuals for logging options to see what information you can easily capture.
