ITunew 5.0 re-syncs everything every time

Hi everyone. This is probably a stupid question but...I've done a search through the forums and haven't seen this listed anywhere. When using iTunes 4.9 this wasn't a problem. Here's the deal:
Usually, I get updated podcasts when opening up iTunes, and then when I plug the iPod in, it updates just those new podcasts and that's it. Takes may 10-15 minutes, tops.
So ... I installed iTunes 5.0 and when I went to do my update, it re-synced everything in my library, which of course is quite time-consuming. "So", I thought. "Maybe it's a new database type and so it needed to calibrate or something". Tried creating new playlists and re-updating and wouldn't you know it? it's now re-syncing everything again. All 2500 songs/podcasts. Frustrating. What do I need to do to make sure just the new items/playlists get synced?

I am having a similar problem and I don't know how to resolve it. I have successfully downloaded all of the new software after three weeks and multiple attempts. My ipod has been updated and is being recognized by itunes. Sounds good so far. I have 3200 songs in my library and can get about 600 transferred at a time before my battery goes dead. It seems like the music is being transferred in alphabetical order. On the itunes screen it shows that the songs being transferred are on the letter "L", but my ipod only has songs starting with "A" and "B".
I don't know why it is showing one way on itunes and another in my ipod. When I recharge my battery and put it on the dock it seems like the transfer to my ipod is starting from the beginning of my library instead of starting out from where it left off. It says that I have transferred over 1000 songs, but they're not on my ipod. I have been working on this for at least 10 hours and seem to be getting nowhere. I have the ipod preferences set on automatic update. Can anyone offer any help?

To prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - hold down the 'option' and the 'command' keys when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - key the keys down until the iPod/iPhone is listed under the Devices list in iTunes - this will prevent a sync from taking place and you will be able to change your settings.

This isn't the actual clip, I fixed it by highlighting and moving everything over but it'd still be a good thing to know for the future. This is essentially the situation i'm talking about. I would never use it for something this simple, but when more complicated editing is being done it isn't so easy to just move all the clips over.

  • HT2688 can i sync my iPod to my home computer through home sharing or do I have to sync it every time to the home computer?

can i sync my iPod to my home computer through home sharing or do I have to sync it every time to the home computer?

There is no such thing  as "home sharing sync".
iOS devices can be synced via the cable or if running iOS5 or later via Wi-Fi.
iPods (nano's, classics) must be synced via the cable.

  • IPod erases everything every time I sync it.....

I've had my iPod for about 3 years now. It's in excellent condition, so maybe I need a new battery or something. But lately every time I plug in my iPod and sync it, it ends up erasing everything,so then I have to reset it every time. By the next day It does the same thing. It's really annoying that it erases everything and having to reset every day. I have no clue what the problem is....

You cant sync with your friends computer and your own at the same time. This prevents you from downloading your friends books/music from your friend so you cant "steal" from Apple.
To work around it just sign into her apple ID on your iPad and download them straight from the iPad instead of syncing it. That will allow you to sync with your own computer without erasing them.

  • IPhone 4s set to manually sync, but every time I try to put a single song on my phone it downloads my entire library. How do I sync individual songs without downloading entire iTunes library?

I recently purged my iPhone 4S of most of its music because I didn't have enough gigabytes of free space to download the latest iOS (my phone was actually completely full). That ticked me off but I didn't have time for a backup. I transferred all purchases to my library and I deleted the music from my phone.
Since then, I've been annoyed that I don't have all my music but I've been enjoying the free space that I have, so I prefer to restore songs from my library individually now, depending what I'm in the mood to hear, and I don't miss having a full phone.
However, whenever I try to manually sync music that was ripped from a CD, music I didn't download from iTunes, but is playable in my iTunes library, iTunes thinks it has to download the entire library, which I don't even have the space for, anyway. However, my iPhone seems fine wirelessly (I have Home Sharing turned on) syncing individual songs which were purchased in the iTunes store.
So whenever I try to sync a single song, or an album perhaps, which was not purchased on iTunes, I get the message "updating files on iphone" and it says it's copying all the thousands of songs in my entire library. But my settings are for manual sync only. I wind up cancelling the sync every time, because I would have to wait for it to finish copying thousands of songs before it got to the one I selected. Why on earth is it doing this?
How do I regain the ability to sync a single song at a time?
    This has been exasperating me.

While your iPhone is synching in iTunes, do the following:
    1.  Click on your iPhone's icon on the left.
    2.  Find and click on the "Tones" tab on the upper right of the iTunes display.
    3.  Choose the synch option you would like.

  • Sync error every time I send an email

    Dear all,
    I'm having the following problem:
Everytime I send an email via outlook 2010 (incl. SP1) the following sync error shows up every time:
    Synchronizer Version 14.0.6109
    Synchronizing Mailbox '...'
Synchronizing local changes in folder 'Drafts'
    Uploading to server '...'
    Synchronization of some deletions failed.
                [0-130]
1 item(s) deleted in online folder
    Done
The email got send out but everytime the sync error shows up after some seconds.
This also happens when I emty the recycle bin; the message is the same but then the folder is 'recycle bin'.
I've tried to connect without cache mode (so directly online) and then it doesn't happen.
Also I've tried removing all the .ost files, creating the whole cache files again but it still happens.
I've to seperate computers and they both have the same error.
My email server setup is Exchange 2010 incl. SP2 with hosting switch.
Does anybody have any suggestion about this matter?
    Kind regards,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
Sync Logs are generated when the item is already moved / deleted or Exchange cannot complete the requests. When Outlook gets any of these two return values from Exchange, it generates a log. These logs are just for informative purposes and can be safely
ignored. These logs are only generated when Outlook is running in the Cached Exchange Mode. In-order to avoid any such logs you can have Outlook running in the Online Mode.
The Exchange team is aware of this issue and are planning to fix in the next version of Exchange.
If needed you can open a Ticket with Exchange Professional Support and we will take a look at the logs.

  • Idownloaded the latest itunes for windows and it just does not sync and every time I connect the iPhone 5 the agreement comes up first.  Help please.

I have had nothing but trouble with syncing my iPhone 5 with iTunes.  I have installed the latest version of each and worked with support but no solution.  Currently when I connect the iPhone the Terms and conditions appear every time, I agree and sometimes there is a sync and sometimes not.  It also tells me I have 5 conflicts but looking at Outlook and the phone there is no conflict. If you tell the system to correct the conflicts it gives a message it cannot access the conflict server.  I am running Windows 7.
    Any help would be appreciated

Make sure you have your data backed up, then reset sync services per the instructions below.
    OS X: Resetting Sync Services
This should take care of the iTunes issue.

  • Sync restarts every time I connect to wifi

every time I come home and my device connects to WiFi, Spotify begins the sync all over again - meaning it starts from 0 tracks synced and attempts to get all 1500 synced. If the app closes, crashes, or I leave home before it finishes I end up not having all my songs.. how can I stop it from beginning the sync from 0??

it happens the same to me, all time, it's really annoying, every time i get home or work it starts all over again and i don't have enough time to wait for it to sync or to be pressing any part of the screen to avoid the phone to go idle, so i leave without syncing and using my data plan, Hate this! x(

  • ITunes 10.6.3.25 is not syncing/freezes every time!

    Tech Stats:
    Windows 7 (32-bit) on a Toshiba Notebook
32GB iPod Touch - purchased in April 2012
    iTunes 10.6.3.25
I'm running iTunes 10.6.3.25 on Windows 7 (32-bit), trying to sync a 32GB iPod Touch. It detects the iPod and 'starts' the sync with the candy cane-striped bar, but then it freezes.
    It generally varies between:
    "Preparing to Sync"
    "Determining tracks to sync"
    "Backup"
    "Checking Downloads"
    "Waiting for sync to start"
"Waiting for changes to be applied"
before it freezes completely and/or won't do ANYTHING. I either have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to stop it (as it comes up 'Not Responding' in Windows Task Manager) or disconnect the iPod from the USB port altogether, whereupon iTunes starts to work again.
There is a VERY RARE occasion when it will start to sync music - 'Syncing music to "My iPod" (Step 5 of 5)', 'Copying 3 of 1233' - then freeze and show "Finishing sync" with the candy cane-striped bar moving for a LONG time, never stopping, and it's only synced a few songs (on one occasion, the max. number of synced songs was 33 out of over 1200). Space and capacity on the iPod is never an issue as I rarely have an iPod (any model) filled to capacity. I still have about 28GB of space left.
A couple of times while the candy cane bar is churning away, I've attempted to eject the iPod. Of course I was asked if I was sure I wanted to and I clicked 'yes', and it came up with a green scrolling bar that said 'Syncing iPod'. It kept scrolling forever with no end in sight. I ended up disconnecting the iPod.
I've tried each of these steps several times:
    Rebooting my laptop.
    Restarting iTunes.
    Resetting my iPod.
    Using different USB ports.
    Using different USB cables.
Re-installing 10.6.3.25 without uninstalling it - Downloading it from Apple and choosing the 'Repair' option.
    Using iTunes in Safe Mode.
Deleting and resetting sync history in iTunes.
    Wi-Fi Sync.
Uninstalling iTunes and going back to an old version (10.5.3.3) - still couldn't sync.
Uninstalling ALL iTunes components as per these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
    Re-installing 10.6.3.25.
My ABSOLUTE LAST, bottom-of-the-barrel option would be restoring my iPod completely. However, I AM apprehensive about doing this.
I've never had trouble with iTunes before. Only recently (10.6.3.25 and the version prior) did I have trouble syncing, where I connected the iPod and it took several clicks of the 'Sync' button before it would finish it completely without freezing or doing it 'piece-by-piece'. My Firewall settings have never had an impact on anything to do with iTunes.
I HAVE noticed, however, that every so often, my Anti-Virus program (McAfee) will come up with a red warning saying that my 'Real Time Scanning' has been turned off and that my computer is at risk. So I turn it back on again, but it doesn't make a difference to anything. Since I was infected with malware late last year, I don't want to risk getting something nasty again.
I DID, however, lose a few playlists from the current iTunes AND my iPod recently and got them back by following the instructions on this site: http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/07/itunes-playlists-disappeared-recover-missing-itun es-playlists/. I got my playlists back but then this whole drama started with not being able to sync at all.
I'm at my wit's end, I can't figure out what's going on and I don't know what to do next.
EVERYTHING else on the iPod is working flawlessly - games, apps, I even kept my iBooks! - but the problem with syncing is BEYOND me. I've been scouring the internet for days trying to find something that'll help me fix this problem but to no avail.
So please, PLEASE help me! I'm begging you, any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

  • Syncing fails every time

    Hello,
I own an iPhone 3 GS since September 2009, which is now running on 3.1.3 and I'm using the newest iTunes version. Since a long time I experience problems with syncing my iPhone with iTunes, mainly with music. Everytime I try to put my music on my iPhone it shows that it has synced 8-9 tracks and then suddenly it stops. My iPhone keeps stuck in the syncing-screen and my PC runs VERY slow. Then when I turn off my pc or remove my iPhone from it, there's stil no music on it.
I've tried to reinstall my iTunes, reset my iPhone, even got a replacement iPhone when my old one was damaged, bought a new USB cable and still it does not work.
I can sync my number 1 by 1, but it should just work as they tell me and I am NOT going to put every single track by hand on my iPhone, which will take me hours.
    What can I do?
    Greetings

Since I updated to OS4, when I sync songs to my iPhone 3GS, all of the sudden it only syncs about half my library. Has anyone found the answer to this ridiculous problem?

  • How do you stop ITunes from syncing automatically every time I attach a device?

I have the option box checked that is supposed to stop devices from syncing automatically, yet ITunes STILL insists on syncing the devices automatically and overwriting gigabytes of data.  I've had to spend hours finding everything again after ITunes has synced when I don't want it to.  Needless to say, this is INCREDIBLY frustrating.

I no longer need an answer to this question. I didn't directly solve the problem but it solved when I was fixing something else.

  • Time Machine backs up everything every time

    Hi
I've just had my hard drive replaced (as part of the Apple recall) and I have just had my external 2TB LaCie hard drive replaced as well due to a fault. I plugged the external hard drive in for the first time yesterday - partitioned it into 3 (one specifically for backups) and did a full backup and now Time Machine backs everything up each hour and takes forever - it's only backing up 4.39GB (it's taken 15 minutes to backup up 754kb). Very frustrating. Any advice would be great.
    cheers

You can import directly to an external drive. Just select the external drive from the import from camera screen. The external drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). You can buy them this way, or you can buy a drive formatted for Windows and reformat it yourself. Let me know if you need instructions.
For existing Events and Projects, you can move them to the external drive following these instructions.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4141
For videos of my children and the family, my practice is to keep everything. I just buy extra external drives to keep it on. It is very important to keep backups of everything that is irreplacable. What I do is create an archive copy of my camcorder files. I back that up rather than backing up the whole event. I import to the iMovie Event from the Archive copy. Once I know the archive copy is good, I reformat the card in my camera and shoot some more.
