Itunnorm flag not read by iTunes

Hi everybody!
I have got my media on an XP NAS (NTFS via SMB). I both access the media from a Mac (10.5.6, iTunes 8.0.2.20) and a PC client (XP SP3, iTunes 8.0.2.20). I would like to manually enter volume adjustment on one computer and have the tag read out by iTunes on the other machine. Part one of that is simple
I have turned on sound check on both systems. Reading the tags written on the PC by mp3gain, iTunes does save the itunnorm flag into the file on the server. But when importing them on the Mac, the flag isn’t evaluated. I also tried the other way (editing on the Mac) with the same result. Both Mac and PC have write access to the NAS, by the way.
Sorry if I did use the wrong keywords, but searching the forum (and the web) didn’t lead to clarification for me. So any help would be greatly appreciated
Best,
Andreas

as of last night ive been having the same issue. any help yet?

  • My PC is not reading my itunes music files, all I get is '!'

Hi, my computer recently crashed and I had to recovery the HDD and lose all my materials, but I still had all my itunes media on a separate drive. Anyway, I redownloaded itunes and now I added a folder of over 4800 songs, all either individual mp3 files or albums in folders. Now that all the albums are up (I lost a lot of the album covers too) I am having trouble playing music on itunes.
Whenever I click on most songs, I get a '!' saying that I have to now search for the file because it cannot be found. I have to search for EVERY song before it can find it. I have over 4800 songs, so I can't realistically search for EVERY ONE. Under 'Preferences' I went into "Advanced" and chose the folder where my songs would be read from. Yet still I have this problem. Funny thing is that it doesn't do it for EVERY song, but I would say about 90% of them. Why is my itunes not reading my files? I have the latest version of itunes on my PC and there is no problem with any of my mp3 files as they are all well and play fine on my ipod. The strange thing here is that all of my movies play just fine, I have 34 digital copy movies on my itunes. I have Windows 7.
Please help, this is a really annoying thing to deal with!

Since you mention PC, I'm guessing that you are referring to a Windows machine. If so, then see this support document.  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

  • IPod is not read by itunes/computer

I own a 5gb 1st gen Ipod which is no longer connecting to the computer. It isnt read as a drive, and Itunes 5.0 isn't recognizing (it wasnt recognized by the prevous version either). I've tried menu/play holding to reset, that doesnt effect anything, i tried the holding menu/play then previous/next which supposedly should work, but the firewire icon does not show up. help plz.
EDIT: (half to get a post on here but...) To clarify im running OS 10.3.9, and the ipod isnt being recognized by a) the finder b) disk utility c) itunes d) any of the ipod updaters. also, i tried to just listen to the music that was on there, and it died in 15 minutes. i've also went into that ipod menu where u run all the integrity checks and stuff and it all passes. HELP

I’m having the same problem. My ipod no longer worked with my G4 right after I upgraded to itunes 4.9. I tried everything you tried with the same results. On a whim I plugged in my ipod to my wife’s ibook and to my surprise it worked. I’ve been using her ibook with my ipod ever since. I was hopeing when a new version of itunes came out the problem would be fixed, but my G4 still won’t work with my ipod. I am at a loss to what is causing this. If you figure it out please post it. Thanks, Glenn

  • CD drive disappearing/not reading after iTunes 7 installed.

    anyone else had this pickle?
After I installed iTunes on this pc (P4 2.6Ghz with SiS 650 chipset) the DVD drive suddenly comes up in device manager as "not working properly" with one of those yellow exclamation points on it...no biggie: we banned the stupid kids from using their ipods on this computer.
now the kids have their own pc...a fair bit older. after i installed itunes on it the CD drive is still active in device manager, but every CD inserted comes up as blank. (ie....the drive no longer bothers reading the disc)
forgive me for being the slightest bit cranky at the windows implementation of itunes, but does anyone have some sort of insight regarding this matter?

I am having the same problem. On IBM T43 laptop.
After the upgrade to 7.2.0.35 my CD drive will read discs and I can even see it when I use file->import; but then I have to import each track individually.
I also don't get "Play using iTunes" in the autorun window after inserting a CD that I used to get.
Doesn't matter whether I put in an audio or movie CD/DVD only windows media options are shown to me.
This is very annoying especially since one of my recent purchases has 45 tracks on it.

when I connected it to itunes...it gave the message, itunes can not read data from this iphone, restore it to factory settings. It also said while restoring ypu will lose all media data but you can restore the contacts.
I restored the factory settings....the phone was on recovery mode...it was verified by itunes and all that..but in the end it again said that iphone has some problem and can not function right now.
after that when ever i connect it with itunes, it gives the message, it can not activate the iphone further, try again later or contact customer service.

let em elaborate more, the unit is less than 5months old, i bought it just for music, i use to have a lot of cds, well it does not read anynore in my computer nor the itunes programe, i reset it, i put it to disk mode, i down loaded the newest itunes program, i want to know how to fix this as i paid apple good money for a product that died after 5months, for real.
this is bad business and i need some help

Does the iPod work okay otherwise apart from not being able to connect with and communicate with iTunes?
Have you tried connecting the iPod to another PC or Mac running iTunes to see if it is properly recognized there?
Is iTunes up to date on your PC?  Does it appear in Device Manager when you plug it in? To access Device Manager, click start, right->click on Computer (or My Computer in Windows XP) and choose Manage.  When the window opens, select Device Manager in the left hand pane if necessary.
Any unknown devices listed or does the iPod appear anywhere under USB Host Controllers?

  • ITunes not reading ID3 tags correctly

I have an album of mp3s, all correctly ID3 tagged (WinAMP and Windows Media Player read them fine), and when I try to add it into my iTunes library, it only add it as the filename. It does not read the artist, album, or track name from the tag.
It is strange that it is able to read some of the id3 tags but not all.
    iTunes 6.0.4   Windows XP Pro

Something else on your system is probably changing the tag outside of itunes. For instance, WMP is set to get album info from the internet.
iTunes isn't constantly scanning your library for any little tag change (a good thing, otherwise it would use 100% CPU all the time). When you go to play it or get Info, it DOES read the tag info.
Then again, I might not understand your itunes preferences settings. I have mine set for itunes not to organize my files and not add them to the itunes library.

  • Itunes not reading id3 tags

For some reason, many of my songs that I imported using previous versions of itunes *specifically version 10.5* no longer are reading the ID3 tags correctly and now come up as unknown artists, unknown albums.  Is there anyway to fix this without doing each song individually as they show up correctly in Windows Media Player.  There were no issues on the original computer, however I transferred everything to my new computer and formatted the original one.

Leo: Yes, when I first imported my library, I found this case on several files.
In every instance, the ID3 tag itself was corrupted. What I later discovered was as follows:
-Corrupt ID3 tags are pretty commonplace
-Winamp is very lenient in its tag reading capabilities
    -iTunes is not so lenient
There's a few ways to try to fix these files (since it is a problem with the file, technically).
-You can try to correct the tag using a good tagging program. I found Tag&Rename was capable of fixing most tags.
-You can erase the tag and retag the file entirely. TidyMP3 will remove the tag. Tag&Rename has nice Amazon.com lookup features for retagging whole albums at once (with art!).
But it is the tag at fault. Winamp is just incredibly forgiving, more so than any other program. And as such, it's not a good basis on which to judge the correctness of the file's tag.

  • Help required please. "Itunes can not read the contents of my iphone"

    Greetings all,
I know this question has been asked before and I apologize for asking again but all the solutions provided don't seam to work for me, can anyone help me please.
I am receving the message: "Itunes can not read the contents of the iPhone. Go to the summary tab In iPhone Preferences and click restore torestore this Iphone to factory settings".
Now a little about my iphone, Itunes and my laptop and what steps i havealready tried.
I have an iPhone 4 running software 5.0
    My itunes version is 10.5.0.142
I know these are not the most up to date versions but I have had this issue for almost 3 months now and updating the software back then was the first step I tried. I don’t believe updating to the latest will fix this issue as updating the last two times did nothing.
Every so often after starting Itunes, The program will stop responding and will require the three finger death kill (CTRL, ALT, DELETE) to open task manager to end the task of Itunes. Once it shuts down, I restart the iTunes and it runs smoothly, apart from not reading my iPhone.
When I run a diagnostic in itunes under the help tab, I get these fail messages:
Network Connectivity test: Secure link to Itunes store fail
Device connectivity test: Under support services: Itunes helper is not running. And under ports: No iPod, iPhone or iPad found.
Device Sync test: No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found.
*See below for full diagnostic report*
I have restored back to factory settings twice.
I have shut down and restarted both my iPhone and laptop.
I am running Windows 7 32-bit on my laptop.
I am using ZoneAlarm as my fire wall, and have been disabling it when syncing my iPhone to prevent other error messages.
The iPhone is plugged into a genuine Iphone USB cable and is plugged into a USB port not a USB hub on my laptop, I have tried plugging it into all 4 USB ports and this issue still persist. The Cable is less then 5 months old, is not frayed or damaged in any way, have also borrowed 2 other cables from friends and still the same issue.
The iPhone does not even come up in windows explorer as a digital camera.
    The iPhone is NOT jailbroken
I do not live close to a so called genius bar, however I have made the journey to them on 3 separate occasions last year when I first received my iPhone for a different issue, the so called genius's could not fix the problem so they just gave me a new (refurbished) iPhone, which did not extend my warranty. I will not be taking the iPhone back to them as I believe they can not resolve many issues, this is why I am reaching out to the power of the people in the wider apple community.
I have read in other forums about ifunbox and other programs for jail broken iPhones to isolate folders “iTunesDB” and "iTunesCDB" and delete them. If this is the issue is there a way to access these files through windows explorer as my iphone is not jailbroken.
I hope I have provided enough information and someone can help me fix this issue. If I have left anything out, please let me know. I thank everyone in advance for your patience and support.
    Thanks

  • IPod Touch 4th gen not recognized in iTunes, read below...

So I plug my iPod touch 4th gen into my Windows 8 laptop and I get the little Windows 8 has recognized that a USB device has been plugged in jingle.  But the iPod does not charge, is not recognized by iTunes, and is not recognized by File Explorer.  So all I really get is the jingle.  How do I fix this?  I just downloaded the latest iTunes (11.1.1).  Thanks for your help!

I was having the same problem,  finally figured it out.  I am a W8 user.  Went to control panel, device  manager, and expanded portable devices. I happened to have my iPhone  plugged in to a USB port, and it showed up.  Clicked on the iPhone,  clicked on the driver tab, and updated the driver.  Now it connects to  iTunes.

So  apparently the driver in my iPhone 4 was the problem.  The TS1538  article did not address this issue.  I still think it has something to  do with the iTunes 11.1.1.11 update, because my phone and my wife's  iPhone 4s worked before the update and didn't after the update.  My  guess is this is the problem many are having right now.
