Ive been trying for days

hi guys.
im a complete beginer at java and only have any experience in html and basic. ive got a problem which is really winding me up. i have tried using three or four different programs but none of them work. i have used the command javac First on this code:
public class First
public static void main (String[] args)
System.out.println ("This is my first Java Program!!!");
it works fine and makes a file called First.class
i then try the command java First and it gives me this error.
Exception in thread "main" java.land.NoClassDefFoundError: First
every one is just telling me that ive cased it wrong but its definately right. when i said that people stoped replying. pleease help!!!

Here's what happens, unfortunately, that isn't well documented:
By default, java will assume that your current directory is part of the class path (it automaticallly looks in the current directory for your class files).
But then you read somewhere that you can set your classpath environment variable, so that you don't have to specify the classpath all of the time. So you do this, and all of a sudden, java doesn't check the current directory anymore. It looks only in the classpath as you've specified it.
The typical solution is to put '.' as part of your classpath environment variable.
