Ive deleted all my movies by mistake, help please?

My movie library was taking way too much space on my hard drive so I bought a couple of 2tb external drives. (X2  to enable me to make a back up copy of everything).
I worked out how to get remote acess to them through itunes, so all seemed good.  Once I had copied all my movie files across I then deleted the files in my itunes library. I didn't realise this would also delete all the files on my external drives as well.
This is a disaster, my library is over 800gb and most of it has been converted from my dvd library a lot of which I dont have anymore.
Is there anyway to retrieve them?

It may be possible to recover some erased ones, but you must quit using the Drive or even iTunes, immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.
Turn off Time Machine & exclude the external drives from Spotlight searches too.

  • Have I deleted all my photos?? Help, please!

I received an email with some jpg attachments that I wanted to save. So, I saved them to my pictures folder and then moved them to iPhoto. Then, once I had them in iPhoto I went back to my pictures folder to delete them from there but I think I accidentally deleted the iPhoto folder too. When I open iPhoto, I can see the list of events and photos - all the file names are there, it knows event names and how many photos are in each event, they all seem to be there under photos, even the folders I've made are there - with the correct names and number of images. BUT.... I can't see them. I go to open each image and I get nothing. I just can't believe that they're all gone, if I can still see their file names??? Oh - and I pulled the iPhoto folder from trash so it's not in there anymore. Can you tell I'm new to all this?

    Cathy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open the iPHoto Library package like this, go the Originals folder and verify that the original image files are still in the various subfolders. Once you do that launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
If that doesn't resurrect the library you'll have to start over with a new library and import the originals folder as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
To help recover from a similar problem in the future, damaged database file, see the tip at the end of my signature.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Latest Adobe Reader update deleted all files from my desktop - help please!

    Dear all!
Yesterday I opened up a .pdf document with Adobe Reader. I clicked the Help | Check for Updates option. The reader informed me that there was an update available. I then disabled my antivirus (as is recommended). I selected the available update by checking the box next to it. I then clicked the Download option.
The update began to download. At that moment I noticed that the .pdf document was still open (i.e. Adobe Reader was still running). Knowing that the installation, when it begins, tends to notify me that it must close Adobe Reader in order for the installation to continue, I decided to close Adobe Reader myself before being prompted to do so. All was fine until that moment, as the update download and install runs in a completely separate process from the Reader, it was not affected.
After I closed the Reader, with the update still running I noticed that all files I had on my desktop were gone. None of the folders were missing, just the single files and most of my shortcuts. I checked to see if the files were just invisible or phisically missing. It was the latter. Windows Explorer showed that all files I had on my desktop were gone (deleted/overwritten I guess). A search of my computer for the file names came up empty, even though I was searching with the "search hidden and system files" options enabled!
I tried a number of deleted file restoration softwares but none have identified the desktop files I was missing.
Be so kind as to spare me from the "did you check the power cord" category of "answers", as I am not a complete idiot. The Acrobat Update, or something associated with it has to be at the root of this problem, as the antivirus software I have installed came up empty when I searched the computer for virurses, worms and the likes...
All help on this matter would be appreciated. Needless to say, most of my current work was stored on the desktop...
I am running WindowsXP sp. 3, Acrobat Reader 9.34
    With regards
    jack_84

Please ignore the previous unrelated reply - I will deal with it separately.
I must first say that this is a very puzzling problem, and that I have never heard of anything like it.  Apart from the missing desktop content, it also puzzles me that you state your Adobe Reader version as 9.34, when the latest Reader version is actually 9.3.2.
Anyway, how to solve it?  Can I assume that you do not have a very recent backup, from where you can simply restore all the lost content?
I do not know if your desktop content is really gone (deleted), or if it is somehow just not visible.  There are a few things we can try, but I strongly suggest that you make a full backup of your system before you try anything!
Since I have never seen this before, I cannot make any definitive recommendations, but just suggest what I would do if that happened on my computer.  Again, not before making a full backup.
    Uninstall Adobe Reader.
System Restore to a time before the problem started.
Check the following registry keys, if they have a value 'NoDesktop', and what it is set to
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer
If you are on XP Pro, you can use gpedit.msc to check these settings (Configuration | Administrative Templates | Desktop ["Hide and disable all items on the desktop"]).

  • Hi guys i can really use some help in my storage it says other takes up 8.4 gigabytes and i deleted all old texts and notes help please !

    THANK YOU

"Other" is not old text and notes. Some "Other" is there for a purpose, but if it gets too big, it probably caused by corrupt data. Doing a restore of your phone is the normal route. Make sure (as I am sure you do regularly anyway)  you backup everything before doing the restore.

i want to get rid of everything in itunes , music, movies etc and start afresh. Ive deleted all old libraries but still there is stuff in iTunes. Please help me start afresh?

Please do not delete any files from the HDD without having a current backup.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say you've "deleted all old libraries." Can you explain that?
If all you are wanting to do is empty the iTunes library of all music, video playlists, etc. the easiest way is to quit iTunes and, in the Finder, go to ~/Music/iTunes and simply move the .itdb, .itl and .xml files to the trash. Launch iTunes again and the library will be empty.
You should be prompted to add content, so you can let iTunes scan the HDD if you like.

    Hello caitmcd,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
You can also update the phone through iTunes directly if you have the latest version of iTunes installed, 11.1.
You can download iTunes 11 here if needed:

Firstly you DO NOT have to do a factory reset / wipe device, it is simply not required to get the space back!!
Mine had 3GB and I just got rid of it all, here is how:
    METHOD ONE:
    Make a backup in iTunes
    open iBackupBot (Google it)
    Go to the relevant backup
Click on Multimedia File Manager and click on the other Multimedia files tab
Sort by filename by clicking the Filename tab
Find MediaDomain/Library/SMS/Attachments and highlight all of them, then press delete.  You can also click to export to a folder of your choice, if you want to save them that is.
    Then go to System Files>MediaDomain>Library>SMS>Attachments
They will be all listed here, highlight them all and press delete
Then just restore that backup using iTunes!
Tadaa! Space recovered, your messages are still there but without the attachments!  METHOD TWO:
Backup your device in iTunes and then to iCloud
Go to Settings>iCloud and toggle Documents & Data to OFF
Then do a 2nd backup to iTunes and iCloud
Then restore the device from iCloud and the message attachments should be gone, turn Documents & Data back on again in the settings
PLEASE NOTE: Method two is a much longer process but some users may feel more comfortable with this method.
P.S You may want to make two backups in case you get any of the above steps wrong, but it is simple to follow the above and not do anything wrong!
P.P.S You could also just go through every single conversation and delete the attachments one by one, but if you have hundreds or thousands of attachments, this will take a VERY LONG TIME!!!

Are the playlists still on the iPod? If so I can probably cook up a script to read them back into iTunes, or you can check the features of the various tools listed at the end of this user tip to see if you can find one that you want to use.

Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Spotlight ▹ Privacy. The list of items excluded from Spotlight indexing is shown (it may be empty.) Click the plus (“+”) icon to add an item to the list. Select your boot volume (under DEVICES) and add it to the list. Then remove it from the list by selecting it and clicking the minus (“-“) icon.
Spotlight will rebuild the index. If you try to do a Spotlight search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, a pulsing dot will appear in the icon. When the dot disappears, the indexing is complete.

  • Urgent Help.... deleted all my movies

It's been one of those days and now tonight I go and delete my complete library
Can anyone help. I have a Intel Mac Mini and a 500GB Iomega Mini Max hard drive.
I had 186 movies on the hard drive in .avi format and somehow I have managed to select and delete them all and empty the trash.
I haven't touched the Mac (except to write this)..... but can I recover the files??
    Merry Xmas

There is no inherent 'undelete' in MacOS, so unfortunately file recovery relies on 3rd-party solutions. The best of these I know of (and use by choice) is Prosoft's Data Rescue II (http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php). Unfortunately, at $99 it is not inexpensive, but if you don't keep a backup for easy recovery, then you may find this software more useful than just this occasion!
You can download a trial of the software for no cost, and see if it finds and lists all your files. Due to limitations in the trial version, it's not possible to use it for anything but cursory recovery, but at least it'll tell you whether your movies are intact.

  • My ipod deleted all my movies and music

ok i was syncing my itouch and it came up with this message that it couldnt find the itouch so i unplugged it and hooked it back up. when i went to the summary page on itunes, it shows that all my songs and movies were deleted and was replaced with the orange section (other). now i have no room to put movies but only songs. do i have to restore my ipod to get my space back or do i have to just deal with it. also if i have to restore my ipod will i have to pay for it since my itouch is a 1st gen.

my problem is similar to this but my ipod touch was not hooked up to a computer, i did not sync it, it just randomly deleted all my music and videos. All my apps and pictures are still on it. When it is hooked up to itunes, the capacity bar full with my "music", but it lists it as other. This has happened once before, and i would really appreciate if this problem could be resolved.

  • IPad Air keeps deleting ALL my movies! 2nd time now.

Hi, I bought a new iPad Air last month, gave my old one to my kid. Never had any issues with it. With this new air, however, several times now it has deleted ALL of my movies! I just spend a few hours loading it up, took it on a trip, played one or two on the airplane. Then, at the hotel I opened it up to see the "you have no video content" message! This is the second time now. Do I have a faulty iPad?
When I connected it to iTunes, all the videos were still listen as "on" the iPad. But the Available Space was 101GB, and when I clicked on a movie in iTunes, all I got was an exclamation mark. What the ****. This is the second time now, and I'm getting mad and ready to throw it out. After the first time, I reformatted the iPad (restore?) from scratch, and that was only a week ago.
The movies are all basic mp4 or m4v movies i ripped myself or downloaded, nothing from the store. I played many of them fine on older iPads.

I'm not certain I know what the issue is, but I would start by excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time anti-virus scanning activity.
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - you may well have .tmp files in your iTunes folder that represent your recent lost libraries. Perhaps you can restore one of them. You can also take a manual backup of the iTunes Library.itl file, assuming iTunes can close without dumping it.

Well seeing that it was on a fat32 drive you can get any number of data recovery software, such as Getdataback ( what I used to use )
