You will only lose data that you did not sync to your computer, or data you did not back up to iCloud. If you have synced or used iCloud then the data is stored for you.

Turn your phone off: When you get to that itunes plug in sign, press and hold the power and home button until your screen goes black, and release those buttons when it goes black. ( make sure your phone is not plugged in your pc yet).
Now your phone is off.
Next do this: Press and hold power+home button for exactly 10 seconds, after 10 seconds pass, release the power button but keep holding your home button for exactly 13 seconds.
Now plug in your usb cord to your pc and then to iphone, and open up itunes. Itunes should say that there is a device in recovery mod discovered , and simply press RESTORE. Your iphone will restore and you'll be able to use your phone.

Hi, I have just tried to update the iPhone software and it appears to be updating but the screen on my phone has had the same picture of the apple and its at the same spot of loading (about 3 quarters) for the last HOUR!! help!
oh and the device is not being recognised by itunes now either.

I did an update on my ipad and now I have to restore it but it says I will lose everything How can I get my pictures on there before I restore my ipad to factory settings?
They will be gone from the iphone, but you should be syning all contacts to your computer regularly and should be importing all pics to your computer regularly, particularly before any update.

Yes, that is exactly what it means.
The right way to do it is to first rebuild your library on the new computer, and then sync the iPod.
You can rebuild your library by copying the library from the old computer or from your backup.
If neither of those options is available, you can extract the songs from the iPod, although the process is a bit hairy. See this guide for the procedure, written by Forum member Steve/turingtest2. -
Tried to update my ipad mini and its now stuck in restore mode
My ipad mini was due for update and after it was downloaded on my Mac, it sent the ipad mini into restore mode. I cannot get it out of restore mode. Even tried the turn it off, then hold down home button while plugging it in thing over and over. Nothing. Someone help please.
Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

I just tried to update my iphone 4 to the 5.01. It said that my phone backed up and started update. i went on a run and came back and my phone is now stuck in recovery mode. I have just tried to update my ipod touch and the update failed but it has locked my ipod. All I get is a picture of the itunes logo and the usb lead. I am unable to get the ipod to move and I don't know what to do. I think I should be recompenced by Apple if I have to pay to get it fixed!
The logo is saying connect it to your computer with iTunes installed on the computer. I assume when yo do this that the iPod is not seen in iTunes. to make iTunes appear try:
- Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Place the iPod in recovery mode. See:
