Ive lost iphotots and iweb after hard drive failed help

Hi my hard drive failed yesterday and I took it to the apple store who confirmed it had failed.  They advised I should purchase a new one, provided me the specs and fit it myself.  I've now clearly done that because I'm writing this
However I've reloaded everything back on but i've noticed my iphoto and iweb are missing!!!  I really need these apps, I cant remember how I put them on the machine, be it disc or download but clearly ive paid for these app.
Please please help me I really need these apps as I have current workload dependant on having these apps

iPhoto is included with the iLife apps and can be downloaded from the Mac App store or if your Mac is slightly older and came with an earlier version of OS X then Mt Lion then those apps are on the second system install discs that came with your system (Which I suspect it is an older Mac as iWeb is no longer included in the iLife suit of programs).
So dig out your original system discs and use the one marked Applications to reinstall those apps. Then update them from software update.
If for some reason they won't install on Mt Lion then you will need to wipe the drive, Re-Install the original OS X version and the iLife apps then upgrade back to Mt Lion.
EDIT, NOTE: To the OP and DS store.
iWEB Still works on ML as long as it is updated to the newest version. If the Applications disc is new enough it will even install on Mt Lion.

  • Importing Songs from iPod after hard drive failed

My hard drive failed. Fortunately all of my songs were backed up on my iPod. Got a new computer and can't figure out how to get the songs from my iPod back to my computer. Some songs were purchased from iTunes, some from CDs. I tried the import function and all it does is bring the titles into my library but cannot find them when I try to play them on my computer. The songs are still on my iPod.
iPod 40g and Nano   Windows XP

The transfer of music is designed to be one way by default - from iTunes to iPod, however there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection.
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    PodPlus Windows Only
Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these and pick one you are happy with, they are generally quite straightforward.
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
You may already be using the iPod in manual update mode in which case you can ignore the rest of this post. In manual mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased. However if you are getting a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, click *No*. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list. Change the update setting in Preferences>iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists" Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, on Windows, hold down Shift + Ctrl. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Hard drive failed, help moving old files

My hard drive failed, and i had the Genius Bar replace it.  I bought a sled at BestBuy and can read most of the files/structure.
I am having difficulty moving some database files because I don't have priveledges.  Tried to use old username and password to change the file permissions, but can't.  How can I resolve this issue?

Click on the Finder/Desktop and choose Go > Computer and navigate to your User/Public/DropBox folder.
Drag and drop your files from Music, Pictures, Documents etc., into this folder, the permissions and ownership should change to you.
If not drag to the desktop and perform a users permission reset
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
The iTunes libray file and iPhoto Libray have paths names in them to the old user, so you will need to copy the music out of the old iTunes folder and reimport. Right click on iPhoto Library and "show package contents" to get the Originals folder out and reimport. That should corrrect the pathnames in the db files.
You can also edit the iTunes/db file in TextEdit and Find and Replace All the partial pathnames so you can keep your playlists.

  • How to restore playlists and ratings after hard drive format

Several people have reported problems restoring paylists and ratings after reformating a hard drive. Here is what worked for me and what did not.
I had to reformat my hard drive. Before doing that I exported my playlists from itunes to another hard drive as an xml file. I also copied the folder with all my songs to another drive. (Also of course had it backed up on DVDs.)Then I copied the itunes library files (see url http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732) to anoher drive.
After reformating my hard drive and installing the lastest verion of ITunes, I copied the actual songs back into a subfolder in my music folder. I then told iTunes to import the subfolder with the actual music. That resulted in a restored library that lacked playlists and ratings.
    Don't do this
I purchased Anapod ($30.00) because its web page said (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/):
"Anapod CopyGear is an easy-to-use, compact utility for copying music tracks, playlists, podcasts, photos, and videos from your iPod back to your PC."
Well, I did transfer 104 playlists back to my iTunes library through the Anapod backup function. However, the transfer also put more than 20 gigs of duplicate songs into the library. All of the songs listed in the playlists were duplicated in iTunes. I could find no way in Anapod to simply copy the ratings and the playlists. Anapod documentation was outdated. For example the online help pages said that playlists could not be backed up. This was confusing because I had just done that.
"In a future release we will be adding the ability to backup your iPod playlists. This will allow you to generate backup files of your iPod playlists on the computer. These files will not be usable on your computer though. They can only be used to restore playlists at a later time on your iPod (assuming it still carries all the audio files referred to in that playlist)." This text is from url http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/support/tome/tx2pc.php#5.1.2
I sent requests to Anapod for help today, but they have not been answered yet. Docs truly did not seem to help. Would have been good if there was a pdf file rather than just an online help html file that seemed outdated.
    This worked for me:
I ended up having iTunes wipe out the entire library because of all the dups Anapod made. (Made sure that iTunes only wiped out library and did not delete actual songs from hard drive. Then I had iTunes import my subfolder with songs again. That brought me back to where I was before wasting money and much time on Anapod.
After I had my iTunes library up (without ratings and playlists and after finding Anapod did not meet my needs.
    1. I imported the xml file to which I had exported playlists before reformating hard drive. That gave me the playlists back although an error message said some items not copied because the music tracks listed in playlists were not in my iTunes library. --Possibly I deleted songs after playlists were downloaded some time ago to iPod. Importing the xml file is probably not necessary because of what I did below.
    2. Quit iTunes
    3. Because my song ratings were still missing, I then moved the iTunes library files made by the new version of iTunes into a different folder.
    4. Then I put my old version 4 library files into the place where the library files should be.
    5. Then I crossed my fingers and restarted iTunes. It took awhile to start and said it was updating my library files. Now I have back most or all of my playlists and ratings.
If problems develop, I will probably wipe out iTunes library and use Anapod to move everything from my iPod into a folder and tell iTunes to import that folder. That approach might avoid the dups that Anapod makes when restoring playlists to iTunes.
So my message is keep your actual songs backed up somewhere (such as DVD's and anotehr hard drive) and keep a duplicate copy of your library files somewhere not on your hard drive. With these items you should be able to restore iTunes library to its former status.
Sorry for the length of this message. Hope it helps someone.

    The simple version of above:
iTunes Files to Backup (anytime you make additions or changes to the Music or Library that you want to retain)
    1) All music files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘iTunes Music’ folder)
    2) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    3) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    4) Any XML playlist files created for Playlist retention
    5) The two iTunes.pref files (optional)
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
    6) The XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script (also optional, but recommended):
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”

  • MBP mid-2009 Freezing after Hard Drive upgrade -HELP!

So, my Apple Care just ended and I was almost always at a full 320GB, so I decided to upgrade my hard drive to 1TB.  I purchased a Western Digital TB drive (9.5mm) at a store recommended by an Apple Genius and followed the instruction on youtube exactly, as well as having another visit to the Genius bar, ensuring I grounded myself often throughout the process. My computer is a 15" MBP originally loaded with Snow Leopard, now running OSX Lion.  I did a Time Machine backup prior to everything and also bought an enclosure for my old hard disk to use and it has yet to be wiped, but Disk Utility says that it's corrupt because 1 program's debug log says the number of files changed (after the time machine processing.) I did a Carbon Copy Clone prior to installing the hard drive as well, so when all was done, I was able to start the computer without issue.  (This program is what told me first that I had an issue with that debug log.  I'd tried to delete a huge folder that was taking up nearly 30GB before the clone, it was backed up on time machine and another backup drive.)
However, after Vuze re-opened (which I'd just recently upgraded to Pro) it froze the computer, so I got the rainbow disk and even Force Quit did not work.  Since then, I've had to reboot with the top right button dozens of times.  Mail, Chrome and Vuze have all caused freezing and Command Option Escape does not work at all.  My beloved computer is starting to feel like a big brick.  I uninstalled and re-installed Vuze Plus since, but still have the same issues (trashing the program then re-downloading).  As for Disk Utility, it says the drive is just fine.  There are no software updates needed and that's about as far as I can get before things crash again.
I would really appreciate any assistance that can be provided based on this scenario.  I hope I've provided enough detail, please let me know if more is needed.
    Thank you in advance.

The only thing that I can think of is that your SATA cable may be bad... it's the first thing that I would try replacing. DIsk Utility wouldn't be able to detect a bad SATA cable - you'd just have random freezes and crashes.
I don't know that this is the solution to your problem, but it's the first thing I would attempt. 2009 models are notorious for having bad SATA cables - try PowerbookMedic and order a new one. If it doesn't fix the problem, call back.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • My desktop was stolen and my laptop hard drive failed, now I cannot activate cs5 on a new computer, what are my options?

Someone robbed my apartment and made off with my imac. I filed a report with the police and insurance bought me a new one. Around the same time the laptop I use crashed. I has installed cs5 on both of these computers. I was able to activate cs5 on my new desktop, I'm guessing because I backed up my account on an external hard drive, but since the laptop crashed and was fixed I'm unable to activate cs5 again (the message claims I've activated cs5 on too many computers). The hard drive in the laptop was replaced. How can I reinstall cs5 on my laptop?

You need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues involving inaccessible machines.

  • How do I re-download Contribute 6.5 after hard drive failed?

I upgraded to Contribute 6.5 in June but last week my MacBook Pro hard drive gave out. I'd backed everything up but for some reason my backup drive has all of my Contribute files, but not the program itself. How do I re-download? Thank you.

Sorry I don’t know of any download links for PSE6. It may be worth thinking of upgrading to the latest version PSE13. It now has 64 bit support so you should see improved performance if your new machine has more than 4gb of memory (RAM)
The interface is different to PSE6 although most of the tools you are familiar with will work the same.
Why don’t you download the trial version from the link below and use it free for 30 days. If you are happy with it you can purchase from Adobe or any retailer or on-line store. No further installation is required; you simply enter your serial number to make the trial permanent. It’s a good way of ensuring a successful installation before making a commitment to purchase.

  • Kernel panic and possible bad hard drive?  HELP!!!

I've been running my G4 iMac without any trouble for just shy of 4 years now. On Monday night I clicked on a menu on the Netflix web page and the computer crashed. I later figured out this was a full on kernel panic.
I happened to have Tuesday off so I spent my time backing up as much of my files as I could. While backing up the computer would occasionally have another kernel panic and freeze. Sometimes the screen would look like this (http://www.tallgrassrestoration.com/kernelpanic2.jpg), sometimes it would look like this (http://www.tallgrassrestoration.com/kernelpanic1.jpg). Eventually it just stopped starting up, as of now it just gives me a folding icon with a flashing question mark on it. I got all the files I really need burned onto DVDs, but there are still many files I would rather not lose.
I can boot it up from the OS 10.3 install disk, but the installer software does not recognize the hard drive, i.e. it does not list it as a location to install the operating system. The Disk tools does recognize the hard disk but comes up with a nasty error when I try to 'repair' the volume and will not proceed. The erase option looks like it would work, but I'd rather not go there... yet.
So I believe I have a hard disk issue. Because I don't hear any associated noises I am hoping its not hardware related, but rather a corruption in the sector where the system software is store.
Does anyone have any advice how I can proceed? Is there any way I can just use my wife's iBook and treat the iMac like an external hard drive and remove the last of my files that way? Any way I can repair this problem without wiping out or replacing the hard drive?
    thanks,

A couple of years ago I accidentally bought and installed two incompatible modules. I would get Kernel Panics 3 or 4 times a day. When I removed the factory module these KP dropped to a once every day or so. I would suggest you monitor closely for a while longer until we can be sure that both modules are good.
It's possible it was the RAM seating but I'd be more suspicious than that; you could always try re-installing it.
Most RAM comes with a lifetime warranty so even if it was some time ago it's worth contacting the reseller.
I use a magnetic screwdriver with torx bits too, but did keep it away from all the chips and boards.
Let us know how you get on.
    cheers

  • How to access my website created with iWeb after hard drive replacement

I recently had my hardrive fail and it was replace with a new one. It just happened to be the only computer I used to create and update my website. I lost some photos that are on my website, but there are 1 or 2 photo pages that I can't download them back to my computer from. Is there another way to get them from the .mac server to my computer? I hesitate to create a new iWebsite for fear of losing the one that has the photos I want. Thanks

You should be able to access any of the files on the Idisk.
You will need to construct a new site and in the future you should backup the "domain" file located in your user library/application support/iweb.
If you had that file you would not have lost anything.

  • Mac book and problem after hard drive update!

    Hi
I am new to the forums so please be nice
My friend updated the harddrive on my ibook and i got some discs for Leopard osx so thought I would give it a go, although the discs say imac on them he assured me they would install.
When I try to install it just says it can not be installed on this machine?
Do I have to buy a specific version of leopard?
On the discs it says mac os version 10.5.2, AHT version 3A140?
Thank you any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Everyone,
It is a macbook not ibook, sorry my mistake.
I did not know it would be breaking or violating anything, if so I apologise!!
I will obviously need to buy the software specifically for my macbook is the answer, thank you for all your answers.
If i buy the software do I still have to ask for macbook or is the retail version for any mac machine?
Sorry - I wasn't trying to be harsh. The software on the restore discs is licensed (or should I say licenced) for use on one computer. I think a lot of people might dispose of or sell them after their machines expire or they upgrade to a newer version of OSX.
    This gets really complicated.
There are currently 6 different iterations (all the machines at the same issue date should use the same install version) of the polycarbonate shell MacBook. Each one would require a different set of install discs. Several of these came out before Leopard (10.5) was on the market and the install discs have Tiger (10.4.X). If your machine was of a vintage before Leopard was on the market, you can install using any retail version of Leopard. I have a copy of Leopard with the original 10.5.0 version. The current retail version of Leopard is 10.5.6. This should install on any MacBook which came standard with any version before 10.5.6.
    Are you confused enough now?
If you could identify which iternation of MacBook you have, I think people here could give you a better idea of what your options are for installation of the operating system. You could put your old drive back in, run System Profiler and find out which MacBook version you have. Mine says MacBook 3,1. My guess is that any retail version of Leopard should work since you identified your OS as 10.4.11.

  • Restoring my photos and metadata after hard drive format. yep, I'm THAT guy

    Hi guys,
Unfortunately my 17,000 photo aperture library (master files stored externally to the aperture library - ie referenced) was accidently deleted (long story) in a drive consolidating effort around my house.
The good news is that I was able to recover the images using a file recovery program.
My problem is that the files once recovered have a new filename different from the original (ie instead of IMG_4345 it is J1928731-1323). The metadata for the photo from EXIF is still present and I am able to sort the photos based on photo date time group once re-imported into aperture. Since the filename is not the same as the original, I am unable to reconnect the files to restore the individual metadata changes to each image made in aperture.
I have been able to 'mirror' my original library ie, for each project there are the correct order and number of images in the recovered project folders.
    My question is:
    1. Is there a way to force a file re-connect with an image with a different filename?
    2. Failing Q1, is there a way to select a group of images all with different metadata and paste it to another group of images where the number of images between the two groups is equal? Lift & stamping each individual photo is VERY painful...
    Any help would be fantastic

    Ouch. You have my sympathies!

As far as I remember, File>Manage Referenced Files... will do this if you Alt/Option-click the Reconnect Now button. It's still going to be a mammoth task, but faster than copying all the metadata to new imports...

  • Downloaded program. Hard drive failed and program lost. Any way to retrieve it?

I purchased my iMac in Dec. of '07 and purchased iWork shortly thereafter by download. Unfortunately my hard drive failed and I didn't have a backup so I lost not only my iWork but also my Snow Leopard update. Is there any way to retrieve these (especially iWork) without having to purchase them again? I haven't had any luck getting through to Apple support.

I you purchased iWork "shortly after" your Mac purchase, there was no app store; the only way you could have bought it was as a retail disk or, if there was a trial version on your Mac, you might have purchased a registration number. If the former is the case, you should have the disk; if it's the latter, I'd suggest calling Apple to see if something can be done.
And: your next purchase should be an external hard drive so you can make a backup.
