Iview integrating Excel and BEx Tools

Hi,
I'm looking to use Excel functionality in an IView firstly through a Transactional iView and then a URL IView pointing to the BEx BI7.0 executables as a file refrence (BEx Web Application Designer in the Portal Content Studio as a URL iView pointing to a file location eg. file://C:/Program%20Files/SAP/FrontEnd/Bw/wdbpwpub.exe)
The excel part of a transaction in a transactional ivew doesnt appear and I cant get the URL Iview to view BEx Web App Deisgner in an iview.
Any help with be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Alan.

Hi,
That is incorrect. You have to enter BI user name and password. To avoid this popup, make sure user mapping is done for the BI system (with BI user name and password). You can also check these links for details.

  • Integrated Excel and VB Macros...Problems

    Hi,
We are running MAP transactions (RETAIL) that use integrated Excel for planning purposes. Once we open the transaction we have access to an excel application where we maintain data.
The problem is that we are trying to use some complex VB macros to validate online entries, but we are facing problems if we call the Excel from SAP (The file runnning on its own works fine):
    - The events WORKBOOK.OPEN or AUTOOPEN do not seem to run. I need to run a macro when the workbook is started form SAP;
    - I've been getting runtime erros and some are related to this: ACTIVECELL = nothing (?).
    Have you found similar problems?
Where can I find VB programing guidelines for Integrated Excel in SAP.
    Thanks
    Leonardo De Araujo

    Hi Tarun,
you are in the wrong forum. You are using the R/3 based Retail solution, this is based on the CO Planningprocessor Excel integration, it is not based on SEM or
BW-BPS. So you can not find the BPS predefined VBA macro exits.
In the R/3 solution there exist no predefined VBA macro exits. But you can add your code more or less at the same 'events':
    - the backend triggers the SAP makros via Sub R3MacrosExecute() at each PAI, PBO cycle
    - Sub R3PutValuesEnd() is called when the system has filled Excel with data at the end of the PBO cycle; here you can do adjustments and add your macros
    - Sub R3GetRangesSingle is called at the beginning of the PAI cycle to the read the data from Excel and to do the transfer to the backend
    - active cell problem: SAP makros to not set a selection explicitly, you can do this in your makro, e.g. the first data cell or first input ready cell
To implement a kind of 'validation' I suggest to trigger the check via Excel button; the problem is you can not control the PBO, PAI cycle from Excel, i.e. you can send error pop-up in Excel but you can not stop the PAI cycle. So you can not implement a real error handling.

  • How to use SOA Suite in conjunction with SOA Analysis and Design Tools

    Hi everybody,
I am a novice in this field and I need some help regarding integrating analysis and design tools with SOA Suite.
We used to analyze and design with Oracle Designer and use its powerful form generator to develop a system. It almost covered all the software lifecycle and kept the traceability between anlaysis, design and implementation.
I have studied about the SOA concepts and read some papaer about SOA Suite. I have also installed the SOA demo based on SOA Suite and I found it absolutely amazing, but my problem is that It seems oracle does not have any tools for SOA Analysis and Design. am I right? if so, How can we analyze and design a system based on SOA concepts and implement it using soa suite in such a way that keeps traceability? What tools is used for this purpose?
It seems that IBM have some tools like Rational Software Architect and Rational Suite which enable people to design and analyze based on SOA concepts and then generates some pieces of code (like oracle designer in old days) but is it possible to design in these tools and then generating codes for SOA Suite ? (for example generating a bpel file from a design model)
As I told before I am a novice in this field and I would be so grateful if other users can share their expriences regarding this matter.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Navid

  • Reporting tools for the Business user - Crystal reports or BEx tools ?

    Hi,
We have recently implemented BI/BO infrastructure. Scope of the inital implementation was an executive dashboard based off COPA data. We have used Xelcisus for dashboard and BEx tools for query design etc.
We would like to set up some of our key business users (analysts in respective functions) to be able to write their own queries off this COPA cube. The discussion point is whether to roll out Crystal reports for business users or have them trained on BEx tools i.e BEx query designer/analyzer.
Any inputs to my question "Crystal Reports or BEx tools for the Business users - pros and cons", is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Girish

Our user currently do not have anything.  It's fresh implementation. We would like to get the business users involved. The question is - what's the best start for a business user - Crystal Reports or Bex ?

  • Edit .app file in excel and then open it in client tool?

    Dear Gurus,
I am very new to HFM and would like to know what practice a HFM consultant will use in editing the metadata.
My boss recommend me to edit metadata( .app file) in excel and save it into a format that can be read and opened by client tool.
However, I find no way to achieve this.
How can i edit metadata in excel and then open it in HFM client tool?

    Good morning,
I think the best way to do it it's working with macros. You can work with an Excel file and then, convert it to the .txt format by using macros. A .txt is more suitable to be later worked as .app.
However, you can also do it by using Copy/Paste.
    1. Open the .app in a Note Pad, so you can work with .txt file.
    2. Copy the .txt data in the Excel file.
    3. Then, it's just working with Data > Text to Columns to format the file. Then, you can work in Excel.
Then, you will have to put the Excel file in a .txt, so you will have to follow the data files requirements. You still can do this manually, but you will have to pay attention to the format (FILE_FORMAT=11.1.2, !VERSION=11.1.3609, !CUSTOM_ORDER=Custom1;Custom2;Custom3;Custom4, !APPLICATION_SETTINGS, !CURRENCIES, etc., as it is the Admin Guide). It will also depend on the HFM version you're working with, specially when working with customs.
I received a good document about a couple of months ago that can be helpful, so if you send me an email address, I'll forward it.

  • Download functionality in EXCEL and PDF format to the  Webdynpro iView

    Hi Expert,
I am using NW 7.0 ehp1 sp3. I developed some Webdynpro RFC model application for the product catalog of the material related data.
Now my requirement is to provide the download functionality in EXCEL and PDF format to all of these Webdynpro (java) iView.
How we can achieve this requirement? In which part of the webdynpro application we have to write the code?
Someone can help me very clearly in steps to achieve this?
    Thanks,
    Kundan

    Hi,
I don't think it is possible to redirect the html stream of the Web Dynpro iView to a PDF / Excel document, since it essentially would mean you have to call the Web Dynpro application again, maintaining the state and context of the iview itself
However, using (for instance) the JExcelApi (Excel) or iText (PDF) you could create documents using the data displayed in your Web Dynpro iView, which has the added benefit you could design and layout your PDF / Excel documents in a more suitable layout for printing (most WD applications look horrible when printed)
    Cheers,
    Robin

  • Monitoring and Alerting tools for Business Object Data Integrator

    Hi,
We have Business Objects DI installed in AIX 5.3 environment. Please advise any type of monitoring and alerting tools for DI.
Monitor tools to monitor Job servers(like job service and web services running properly) and also to monitor long running extraction jobs and alerting the same. Thanks.
    Thanks.
    Raj.

    Hi Thomas
Though both the tools objectives are for Data integration, the purpose for both tools are different.
SAP BODS/ BOBJ Data Integrator is an ETL tool which involves combining data residing in different sources and providing users with a unified view of the data
SAP PI is a Middleware/EAI tool which have a mechanism/technology that connects different parts of an application or a series of applications
    SAP BOBJ Data Integrator
    Bulk Data Integration
    Extraction Transformation and Loading
Deals of huge volume of data
    SAP PI
It is process based integration of application data
It is a middle ware which integrates various project applications into a common programming package that can be operate/access as a single application
SAP NetWeaver PI is SAP’s implementation of Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) middleware and facilitates the integration of business processes that span different departments, organizations, or companies.
SAP PI uses SAP NetWeaver Application Server and message servers where in fail over cases the messages can be resent again.
The below differences will gives you more clarity
Verdict is we can use both the tools for data transfer/migration and for choosing the tool depends upon the business requirement
Please reply back if you need more information.

    Hi Sharma,
I was finally able to resolve this Issue
    Here is what I did,
    1) Installed the Following Front End Patches.
       a) For 3.x = bw350gui710_4-10004473.exe
       b) For 7.0 = bi710sp07p_701-10004472.exe
    2) We are using Office 2003 so had to Install the following Office Patch
        office2003-KB907417-FullFile-ENU.exe
This Fixed our issues and Bex ( Both Versions ) are working fine.
If you don't want to Install Front End SAP Patches then start with the Office Patch. On your Desktop follow the steps below.
    1) START -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs.
2 ) Click on Show Patches Option on top of the window.
    3) Find Office and ensure that above mentioned Patch is present. ( Check Microsoft Site with KB907417 ) for more details
    Hope this helps

  • What is difference between bex analyser and bex browser

what is difference between bex analyser and bex browser . please explain what are use of both and what we do in both.

    hi
    Bex Browser
The Business Explorer Browser (BEx Browser) makes it possible for you to access all document types of the Business Information Warehouse that are assigned to your role or that you have stored in your favorites. You can select and open documents assigned to you in the BEx Browser or store and manage new documents in the BEx Browser.
Document types that you can work with in the BEx Browser are:
    · BW workbooks
    · Documents that are stored in the Business Document Service (BDS)
    · Links (references to file system, shortcuts)
    · Links to internet sites (URLs)
    · SAP transaction calls.
    · Web applications and Web templates
    · Crystal Reports
    Bex Analyser
The Business Explorer Analyzer (BEx Analyzer) is the analysis and reporting tool of the Business Explorer that is embedded in Microsoft Excel.
    Features
You can call up the BEx Query Designer in the BEx Analyzer, in order to define queries. Subsequently, you can analyze the selected InfoProvider data by navigation to the query created in the Query Designer and create different query views of the data. You can add the different query views for a query or for different queries to a work book and save them there. You can save the workbook in your favorites or in your role on the BW Server. You can also save the workbook locally on your computer.
Beyond that, you can precalculate the workbook and distribute it by e-mail to recipeients or you can export it to the Enterprise Portal and make it accessible to other employees in the company.
You can start queries in a standard view (with a Standard Web Template set up in Customizing) in the Web browser and forward the URL or continue to navigate on the Web. Similarly, you can export the Web query to MS Excel 2000.
Overview of the Functional Area of the BEx Analyzer:
    ·        BEx toolbar
You access the functions of the BEx Analyzer from the BEx toolbar, which takes you to the BEx Open dialog box where you can open existing queries, or to the BEx Query Designer where you can create new queries or change existing queries.
    ·        Evaluating Query Data
The BEx Analyzer offers convenient functions for evaluating and presenting InfoProvider data interactively. In the BEx Analyzer, you can add queries to workbooks, navigate within them and refresh the data. You can also process the queries further in Microsoft Excel or display them in the Web browser in a default view.
Navigation of a query allows you, for example, to filter characteristics on a single value, drilldown on all values for a characteristic, regroup characteristics and key figures in the rows and columns of the results area, or hide key figures. Navigation results in different views of the InfoProvider data. In addition, a range of further functions is available which allow you to edit a query interactively (for example, sorting, cumulated output, among others). In addition, you can use the editing functions in Microsoft Excel in order to set up individual format templates, to print results areas, or to create graphics.
    ·        Queries in Workbooks
Queries are inserted into workbooks so you can display them. When you insert a query, a link is made between the cell areas of the worksheet and the data of the InfoProvider upon which the query is based. A link therefore exists between the Business Explorer and the Business Information Warehouse Server (BW Server).
When inserting a query into the workbook, a VBA routine is automatically generated in the workbook. You can also connect the Business Explorer with your own VBA programs (Visual Basic for Applications).
You can create workbook templates, into which you can insert your queries. Workbook templates can contain pre-determined items for the area of the query, formatting settings, logos, VBA macros, and so on.
    ·        Precalculating workbooks
You can precalculate and distribute workbooks with the BEx Broadcaster, which is a Web application you get to form the BEx toolbar. The system generates MS Excel workbooks with historical data. You determine the time for precalculation yourself: You can have workbooks precalculated at a predefined time or they can be precalculated whenever data in the underlying InfoProvider changes. You can have the precalculated workbooks sent by e-mail or you can export them into the Enterprise Portal, where you can make them available to employees within your company.
    Activities
To start the BEx Analyzer, choose Start ® Programs ® SAP Front-end Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Business Explorer Analyzer.
You can also access the BEx Analyzer via SAP Easy Access ® SAP Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Menu ® Business Explorer ® Analyzer or in the Business Explorer Browser using the Business Explorer Analyzer symbol in the menu bar.
Hope this will solve your issu

  • Low-Cost data migration and ETL tools

Hi, Im building a database for my company. We are a rather small size book company with a lot of references and still growing.
We have a Mysql database here and are trying to find some good tools to use it at its best. Basically we are just starting up the database after dealing with Excel: we had a size problemu2026 So im trying to find a program that will allow us to do two different things: the migration of our data from the old system to the new one and a specialized software to perform ETL (Extract, transform and load) on our database.
About the price of the tools, if we were one year ago, the accounting department would have been pretty relaxed about this. But today, we have some budget restrictions and therefore need a low cost tool. So could you give me some advice on a good data migration and etl tool for a low cost?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Some companies have budget problems and are having to reduce their cost of operation.
Have you ever heard of open source tools? They can do the job easily and less expensive than proprietary solutions that cost a lot of money.
You can have a look at a good ETL open source program called Talend Open Studio: it is user-friendly but also has advanced features intended for technical users (java debugger, code injectionu2026). It can perform data migration and ETL as you wrote in your first post.
The website is [here|http://www.talend.com/solutions-data-integration/data-migration.php] to download the open source program. They have a forum and documentation you can read. Tell us what you think about the software.

  • Strange Behaviour-- Ep and BEX

    Hello ALl,
I am facing a very strange issue. Our organisation uses bex as a reporting tool for various departments.
We have developed some bex reports and have successfully integraded with EP 5.0 SP4.
The problem now is that one of the users wanted a name change on one of the iviews (BEX report), we( as a developement team ) did the change and imported the iview once again in the portal.
Now the user who wanted the name to be changed is unable to view the changed name, every other user can see the changed name.We even cleared the cache of that particular users IE,but still he was unable to see the changes.
We have the same role assigned to all the users.
Can any one suggest as to why this is happening?
One of the probable reason could be cache related but the client cache has already been cleared, had it been an issue of server cache then all the other users would have been affected, but this is either not the case.
Would appreciate a quicker response, since the issue is getting on our nerves.
    Thanks and Regards
    Pradeep Bhojak

    hello Frank,
To answer first, the user uses the same setting as the one used by all the other users. So no question of language settings being a problem or a hindrance.
    Toanswer second:
we created a query in bex.
created a template fro the same in Web Application Designer.
published the same template as an iview file.
Imported the iview file in the portal (EP 5.0 SP4)
Then assigned the iview to page and the page to a workset and then workset to a role.
let me know where we are doing the wron step, if at all we are?

    Hi GS,
1)There are cases where eCATT will support certain applications like web-based application and hence we use QTP which support this application.
To put it short,eCATT works excellent with SAP application and if you need to interface applications outside SAP,you can use QTP.
2)You have to enable setting for the third-party tool.Reach out to your basis team member.
Once setting is made, you should be able to see the QTP tool and you can use the same for recording.
For more information, please refer SAP portal.

  • JAVA and BEx

We still use BEx 3.x . We think to switch using BEx 7.0. If we like to run BEx 7.0 with Excel, do we need the Java-Stack??
    Thank YOU!!! ;o)

    Deepu,
We are just beginning a 3.5 to 7.0 upgrade project and I too thought I understood the documentation to say that BI java was required to use the 7.0 Bex tools, so I find your response very interesting.
So you are actually using the BEx 7.0 query designer and Excel without the java stack? That makes a huge difference in what we thought we would be able to do, as current plans are NOT to include BI java, as we are under a tight timeframe, and are working under the assumption that we would need to do a unicode conversion as a prereq to installing BI java.
I am also very curious as to whether you found it necessary to upgrade hardware, CPU or more importantly, memory.  One of our Basis guys is telling us we would need lots of memory to run BI Java, perhaps double or even triple what we currently have.  This seems out of line with other SAP projections that we would need approximately 25% more server memory.  So any info you can provide to clarify  the BEx - BI Java issue, or Memory - BI Java issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Difference between bexbrowser and Bex analyzer

    Hi,
can any body tell me  what is the difference between bex browser and bex analyzer  and how end users will access the reports and how they access SAP.

    Hi
    *BEx Web Analyzer *
The BEx Web Analyzer is a standalone, convenient Web application for data analysis that you can call using a URL or as an iView in the portal.
The Web Analyzer allows you to execute ad hoc analyses on the Web: When you have selected a data provider (query, query view, InfoProvider, external data source), the data is displayed in a table with a navigation pane. You can navigate to the data and use other Web Analyzer functions available in the application toolbar. For example, you can change the type of data display, use the information broadcasting functions to broadcast your analyses to others, and create printable versions of your analyses.
In the Web Analyzer, you can save the data view generated from navigation and analysis as a query view by choosing Save View in the context menu, and you can save the ad hoc analysis by choosing Save As. When the query view is saved, only the data view is saved; when the ad hoc analysis is saved, the entire Web application is saved, including the properties of Web items and the layout of the data.
