IWeb 07 to IWeb 08

Hello together!
Thanks to Santa Claus I got a new Problem.
Here it is: I programmed a 250MB large Website on my PB G4 with IWeb 07.
Now as Santa brough me this new IMac, Im going to use this machine to administrate my website.
I moved the sertain Domain file as recomended but it wont work.
The IMac runs IWeb 08. The Website Pages in the sidebar are all red and if Im trying to syncronize it it stopes after an quarter without a reason.
Now I deleted the site at the mac server and tried it all new, but it is the same problem.
So is it a problem between the two versions of IWeb or is it "just" my Internet Provider?
Greetings and thanks to all of you.
You´ve been such great help for me in the past.
bye bye

well,
I really dont know what I just did. But the problem is solved.
I just tried do upload the site the hundertandwhatever time,
nothing difrent, all settings the same way .... and it just worked.
Surprise!
Sorry to bother you. Byebye

I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

    First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Next, in Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb - Moving iweb site from one mac to another mac.

    Hi,
I am using iWeb 08 and would like to move the iWeb site that was created on one mac to another mac to continue editing on the other mac. Any one now how to do this.
    Thanks
    tsofa

    Hi Tsofa,
You need to locate and copy the Domain.site2 file which iWeb creates.
By default this is usually located in User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
You can copy this to any location on the other mac. As long as you use this file to start iWeb, it will recognise it as your default.
If you want to create a new one, but still keep the old, just rename the file and start iWeb, which will generate a new Domain.sites2 file

  • How can I get my published files in a folder back to Iweb? Iweb files deltd

I have accidentally deleted the original files in Iweb for a site I have created and ftp up to a host, so they don't even exist in the domain.sites folder location it seems now and they were never uploaded to .mac.
I have published them to a folder on desktop and was wondering if anyone knows how I can get those files back into Iweb for editing?
    HELP PLS!!

    Stelle:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Go to Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site and download her Automator application for backing up your Domain.sites file on a daily basis. That can prevent this situation in the future. Run it after any changes have been made with iWeb.

  • IWeb vs. iweb -- case sensitive?

Hello, when I try to link to my site with the address http://web.mac.com/myname/iweb (with a small w), it wont work. If I use http://web.mac.com/myname/iWeb (with a capital W) it's fine. Why is it case sensitive? Am I doing something wrong?
    G4 imac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Certain OS's, including the one used to host .mac web pages at Apple, use case sensitive file systems. They have always been that way.

  • Error when Publishing iWeb Site (iWeb 1.1.2)

I am consistently unable to publish my website. The following is the most recent error:
An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site/Worcester, MAfiles/_MG0611.jpg”.
Before this one, it was a different jpg image that caused the publish to fail. I feel like three pictures have made the publish fail. I have done nothing different, I just try to keep publishing.
These are the most recent changes that might have effected something:
    1. I upgraded to Leopard.
    2. I edited three pages, removed one page, and added two additional pages.
    3. I did not finish publishing after these changes because I had to board a plane.
    4. I uploaded pictures to my computer, and then ran out of space.
    5. I had troubles, but with Apple Discussion help (thank you) I was able to install my external hard drive, utilize Time Machine, and free up space on my hard drive. (I now have 21G on my internal drive available)
    6. I moved iTunes music folder to external
    7. I added more photos to iphoto, and added another page.
I have tried to publish several times unsuccessfully. Twice, my network went down. The other times, I get a file error (always a different file). And these were pages I did not even touch.
My entire website is now "red", meaning it needs to be published.
    HELP!!!! I am sooo distressed.

  • IWeb: Using iWeb

Where do you get iWeb from?
    How much does it cost?
Is it suitable for first time web site creation?
    Many thanks Graham

I believe it's suitable, but it depends what you expect from it.
Easiest to use with a .mac account, but it's not a necessity.

  • Using iWeb Switch, iWeb quits with error page

I am having a couple of problems with iWeb Switch.
Often when I open a local web, I get two webs opened. I use command W on the undesired one and then resave.
    This doesn't always work.
I also notice that iWeb suddenly quits with a large page of codes that ask me to relaunce or quit iWeb.
None of these problems cause me to lose work or stop me from using iWeb but is annoying.
    Thanks for any help.

If you're referring to the code that Cyclosaurus provided:
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
and you created the application according to the instructions in my post only you will know where the applicaion would be.  If you downloaded my version of it, iWeb Switch Domain, just search for it on your hard drive.

  • How do I edit site created by iWeb on iWeb - oddly no option seems to exist

A year ago, I created a website with iWeb - saved it to a folder and uploaded it to our corporate server. I believe at some time in the past, I was able to quickly edit the package and rehost. Now I am unable to "find" the folder from iWeb. I placed the folder package in the Sites folder but there seems to be no option to load and edit the package from the iWeb menu - it keeps asking me to select templates and start from scratch.
I created the site in Tiger and am now running Leopard. Due to complications during the Leopard install, I had to replace my hard drive, but I was able to slowly migrate everything (?) back to the Leopard install. As I said previously, I have the website folder package and can open and verify that the contents are intact - I simply cannot find a way to get it into iWeb to edit it.
    PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

I placed the folder package in the Sites folder but there seems to be no option to load and edit the package from the iWeb menu
Clearly you know very little about this application.
Due to complications during the Leopard install, I had to replace my hard drive
You're the only person I've ever heard of in the history of computers that claims to have ruined a hard drive with software. Clearly, you know little of operating systems as well.
I have the website folder package and can open and verify that the contents are intact - I simply cannot find a way to get it into iWeb to edit it.
This statement, again, clearly indicates the desire to import published html back into the iWeb application. This is the "root" of your post and Kirk spoke to it directly.
Your intentions here are clear to most of us; you really don't want to solve your problems--you would rather disrupt this forum. I myself answered your Leopard issue weeks and weeks ago, yet you continue to bash Apple with most of your posts.
They don't respond to you in the Leopard forums anymore. I suggest the good people here stop responding to you as well.

  • Opening old website pages(made with iweb) in iweb?

I created a website and I am having problems opening the website i created with Iweb because I guess it believes the site is deleted, is there anyway to open the files again and drag them back into iweb, thank you for your replies
    ~Andrew~

    Andrew,
    Welcome to the discussions!
Did you successfully publish your site? (Can you view it from a web browser?)
Look in this path on your hard drive and find your Domain file. Double-click on this file to make sure that your site is not there. Assuming that it isn't, how did you conclude your work in iWeb after building the site? You would've been prompted to Save/Publish your work when closing the iWeb window.
Published pages cannot be imported into the application; the only access to work created in iWeb is through the Domain File.
After double-clicking on the Domain, if your site does not come up, I'd be interested in knowing how you can visit the site without it having been saved in the Domain file.

  • Not seeing new title tags, iWeb SEO, iWeb 09

I have been working with iWeb SEO tool to write title tags for a site created in iWeb 09. After publishing to folder, I proceed to write title tags and save each new tag. When I publish I continue to see the old title tags. I have tried ftp for upload as well. Dates on my files and folders indicate the upload is complete, and I have tested with changes to content. Everything seems to work except overwriting the original title tags. I believe I set the original tag using a Google tool. Any thoughts?

I have published this site three ways, one using SEO Publish which uploads from folder (home/My Web Sites/site folder) to ISP, two using Fetch to upload from folder to ISP, and third, Apply All in SEO tool (which I wonder if it loads to domain.sites2 since I do not tell it where to go) and then publishing using iWeb ftp. I wait a day between uploads just to be certain of things, as well as check the my ISP folder for the date/time of my last upload. Each of the three ways is successfully up loading files and folders, yet none succeeds in writing the new title tags. I am quite perplexed by this. I thought title tags were embedded on each page they are assigned too (would be in Dreamweaver), but it acts as if I have a title tag somewhere else which is showing up identically on every page of my site, over riding my new title tags. Any insights? Thank you for your reply.

  • Older IWEB into IWEB 09

Hey my Mac died that I designed my site on using an older version of IWEB. Not all of the files were able to be recovered. I need to update my site. Can I redesign just the page I need to update in the new version and publish it to my site, despite that I built the site on an older version? Or will I have to recreate my whole site? Thanks!

I think you will have to re-build your whole site in iWeb 09 or whatever you now have - if you have more than just one page, then you have your navigation links to worry about that won't work like this.
No way around it but to re-build the whole site again.

  • Is maverick support iWeb and iWeb icons?

I created a web site in iWeb - some time ago - had a problem and was ar that time instructed by a Apple tech to pull the "opening web page app" out of iWeb and place it in the folder of the site - 5 years later I installed Maverick - and now I cannot find that "page app" (sorry don't know the correct title) I do automatically backup to my external hard drive - but before I try to search it- I wanted to know if Maverick will support the necessary "page app" so I can get back into the iWeb files to update the web site - the thought of telling my client that I can't update or change her web site is enough to give me the shakes - Anyone out there have an answer for me PLEASSSSSE?!!!  thanks for any and all help Barb

Have no idea what the "opening web page app" is.  Do you have the iWeb application in your Applications folder?  If it's iWeb 2 it won't be compatible with Mavericks.  Only iWeb 3 is.
The file you need to have to edit a website is the file named Domain.sites (Web 2) or Domain.sites2 (iWeb 3) that is located in your Home/Library/Applications Support/iWeb folder.  That folder is invisible in Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks. Check in that folder now to see if it's there.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Optionsmenu to bring the this window:
If you find the library there and have iWeb 3 continue with:
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
If the domain file is not in your current library: do you use Time Machine to backup your Mac?  If you do there's a way to recover that file from the invisible folder in the backup.  Let us know if you are using Time Machine or another form of backup.  In either case you will have to recover that file.
Suggestion:  since iWeb has been discontinued for 2 years now it would be prudent for you to switch to a currently supported application that has more advanced features to rebuild the site so you can go forward from here.  One application that many are moving to is EverWeb which is very iWeb like in it's appearance and operation, i.e. drag and drop, etc. There's a demo version you can try for 30 days to see if it will meet your needs.

  • Aperture - iWeb - MobileMe...  WORKFLOWS WANTED!

I come seeking advice, and hoping this online essay will spark some discussion on the much-needed integration of Apple-apps online photo sharing and display capabilities -- and I promise to keep the rants to a minimum...
    *What I'm trying to do:*
Create a series of Aperture-published (or at least Aperture-based, since that's where my pictures reside) photo pages, pages on which visitors can...
    1) Quickly peruse the thumbs (with column&row arrangement, sizing, and framing options all determined by me), while also reading some descriptive text I've provided re the overall event being showcased;
    2) View individual shots at a modest but adjustable display size in Slideshow mode (with transition options I've set), and simultaneously see the associated Caption, Date and whatever other Aperture-stored metadata I've chosen to be displayed for that set of images; and then, if they so desire...
    3) Download selected images at their original, FULL-pixel dimensions (assuming I've set the page to allow that).
    4) PLUS, I want to have each of these individual pages indexed on an iWeb "Album Page", which allows for the contents of each individual photo page to be mouse-skimmed before actually clicking and going to that page.
    *An Impossible Dream?*
Not really. Everything I've just described is relatively easy to do -- but only in bits and pieces, it appears -- using Aperture, Aperture-published MobileMe Albums (aka Galleries) and Aperture-published Web Pages, iWeb '09, iWeb's Media Browser, and a MobileMe account. So now I find myself playing Dr. Frankenstein (that's "Fronkensteen"), and trying to stitch together a new form of photographic life online.
In other words, I'm just trying to create the kind of truly functional and flexible photo pages which SHOULD be a no-brainer by now, since all the features I'm imagining already exist! (Then again, I shouldn't ask for too much -- I mean it's not like Aperture, iWeb, and the MobileMe service are all from the same company, right?)
    *In OTHER other words...*
I want to publish Gallery-esque pages from Aperture, but ones which automatically include and display whatever combination of Caption, Title, Date, or any other Metadata I select. And ones which can be INDIVIDUALLY indexed on an iWeb Album Page, as opposed to simply dragging in iWeb's MobileMe widget (which so far as I can tell just gives you a single link to ALL your Galleries in one quick but inelegant whack).
    OR...
I want to publish Aperture Web Pages, but ones which aren't given a ludicrous "homepage.mac" URL (cripes, how old is THAT code?), and which can be easily seen by iWeb once published, so they can then be dragged into iWeb Album pages for convenient indexing and one-stop skimability by the user. (Also, pages for which Aperture has some sort of "Settings / Visit Page / Announce Site" pull-down button as it does for every MobileMe Gallery -- that's just being consistent.)
    OR...
I want iWeb's Media Browser to let me select and drag into iWeb the contents of specific Aperture Projects and/or Albums, but with all Caption, Date, and other metadata for the selected images included, AND (if I so choose) at their FULL resolution -- rather than only at their currently-designated Preview size, which is now the case.
    *Whichever way you describe it...*
I'm not really asking for anything all that new, just for some long-overdue integration between the already-existing photo-publishing abilities of Aperture, iWeb, and MobileMe. But before I start submitting more pages of "isn't this obvious?" input to their respective Feedback sites, I'd love to get anyone's thoughts, reactions, or best of all, suggestions as to how to at least partially achieve, the kind of Aperture-based photo publishing & sharing sites I'm still hoping to create.
Many thanks (if only for reading this far!),
    John Bertram
    Toronto

Many thanks to both David and Bob for the above posts -- it's just nice to know I'm not alone in this frustration.
Sometimes I desperately wish Apple would appoint a CAO (Cross-Application Ombudsman), a "Minister for Inter-Application Affairs", someone whose only job was to track the functions and features in different Apple apps, to correlate that understanding with relevant user input from a dedicated AppleWorkflows Feedback page, and whose mandate was to then:
    a) make sure that the interface of each app behaved in a consistent and predictable manner (so that, for example, Option-clicking a disclosure triangle in a Viewer window list of video filters in FinalCut had the same functionality as Option-clicking a disclosure triangle in a Finder window list of folders and sub-folders -- which it currently DOES NOT);
    and
    b) - most importantly - make sure the individual apps talked to each fluently and interacted in logical, productive ways (the subject of this thread being a prime example of where that's NOT happening).
This person would have the authority to force the programmers working on different apps to actually talk to each other BEFORE new versions get released; to imagine intelligent, creative ways in which the different apps should interact-- and then require the programmers to implement those scenarios. Essentially, the CAO's only reason for coming to work each day would be to oversee the conception, development and implementation of cross-app workflows which benefit and free up (rather than block and frustrate) the multi-Apple-apps user.
The key is that this person (or persons) would have to be given some real power -- not just to recommend, but in many cases to actually require. (For instance, this person would long ago have required the Aperture team to release a free update which no longer published anything to a "homepage.mac" URL. All together now: "Duh".)
And, as mentioned above, they would have their own separate and well-publicized AppleWorkflows Feedback Page (plus a dedicated public discussion forum as well?), to which users would be actively encouraged to submit their ideas on Inter-App problems and possibilities.
Call me crazy -- but that's my dream, and I ain't givin' it up.
