Iweb '08 and FTP client

Bear with me I am new to some of this...I have iweb '08, can I use a FTP client to publish? I read in one place you can only do this with iweb '09, is that the case? Thanks

Bonjour
_iWeb '08_ : you can publish
▸ to MobileMe
▸ to a folder (then you can use a FTP client to publish to your FTP server)
_iWeb '09_ (& '11) : you can publish
▸ to MobileMe
▸ to a folder (then you can use a FTP client to publish to your FTP server)
▸ directly to your FTP server

Same for all ftp servers i'm trying to access (even with ftp-server of my provider just next hop from router). Also i tried different ftp clients. Tracert doesn't indicate any troubles on the way.
But most interesting that after several tries it's connecting successfully. And after 10-20 tries i could even upload/download file to server. So it does not completely blocked somewhere, it works but very not stable.
I tried same client with Linksys WAG54GS (DSL modem) just to check could it be problem with my laptop and it works very good, no problems at all.
Looks like my WRT54G2 doesn't work very well with ftp. May be NAT problem or something else? Any ideas how this could be fixed?
    Many thanks in advance,
    mitko

Well, try to reflash the firmware for the router and forward the port 21 on the router for ip address of computer on which you are trying to access the FTP.

  • IWeb, Finder and FTP Uploads...

    Hey folks...
I was wondering if anyone was aware of an app that integrates FTP uploading capabilities straight into Finder - as opposed to use a third party FTP application to upload files.
I would like to use iWeb to publish websites to my website's FTP account - via FTP, by using Finder (But, obviously Finder is only read-only FTP access).
Does an application like this exist?

I don't know if this solves your problem, but I connect to an FTP server through Safari and it mounts on my dekstop - thus Finder. If I type the line below in Safari (substituting my information where it says "username, password, and FTP host), then the FTP volume will mount on my desktop (after a few seconds), and appear in the Finder. Depending upon on your privileges you should be able to drag files in and out of the window (or the volume in the finder).
The line looks like this (type in the URL of Safari):
    ftp://username:password@hostname
Again, not sure if this is what you want.

  • Index problems with iweb 09 and ftp uploads

    Hi,
after several issues with the site i eventually re-built and published with iweb 09's built in ftp.
The problem i have is that the published site goes in a folder called Site on my server but the index page that redirects to the welcome.html file doesn't direct it to inside the site folder. This means when i navigate to the site it comes up as welcome.html not found on this server.
I've resorted to filezilla again as when i publish to a local folder and upload it works ok.
I still want to resolve this as the iweb ftp will publish just the canges so is loads quicker.
I imagine the only way to resolve this is to change the settings in the iweb site settings page.
does anyone know if i need to tell iweb a different path other than the server url.
    EG; my url is www.thepaddyproject.co.uk
iweb put the site on the server ok (www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site
the index page needs to redirect to www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site/Welcome.html
    any help appreciated

  • Help with iWeb 09 and ftp publishing please?

I'm using iWeb09 and when I publish my website via ftp, the address it publishes to is my web address, followed by / and the name I gave the website on iWeb.  So its not showing on my actual website.  When I go to visit the website via the successfully published screen, the message I get is the requested url is not found on this server.  Any help please?

Make sure you entered the correct URL in the Publishing Settings page and that you have left the Directory/Path field blank as shown on the first example on this page...

  • Windows 8.1 and FTP problems

    Hello,
I am having problems with Windows 8.1 and FTP clients.
I am using Syncback (just takes forever)  and Filezilla 3.7.3 Portable, the last one gives after some time the following error "The maximum number of clients (10) for this user are already connected".
Setting the maximum number of clients on the server form 10 to 15 has no noticeable result.
When using the same network, computer and software, but now Windows 8 (different partition on the same computer), the FTP job just runs fine with no problems.
Should Windows 8.1 have special settings to be able to use FTP?
    Thanks, Wouter

    Please try these steps:
Reducing simultaneous connections for incorrectly configured servers
    https://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Using#Reducing_simultaneous_connections_for_incorrectly_configured_servers
Make sure that you close connection as soon as you are done with them, as some ftp clients will generally leave their connection open unless told otherwise. Additionally, some clients such as Filezilla will allow multiple connections for any new activity,
which uses up connections quickly. While this does make for faster transfers.
I use mostly Cute FTP and I have been sometimes doing it to just close ftp software (Alt+F4) and not closing connection; but the point is that when you have been connected then you must close connection properly as well.

  • Uploading iWeb site to personal domain via FTP client (NOT .MAC)

    Hello,
I want to upload my iweb created website to my personal domain, in other words I do not want my domain to point to my .mac address.
I am downloading Cyberduck as my FTP client. Will I just send my whole "site" folder to my public folder at my personal domain? Will it be in the right order? How will I update each day? (Can I set up iWeb so that when I click "publish" it will update my personal domain?)
I was planning on using some wordpress plugins to modify my site. Will this work? I am totally lost, I had no idea I needed so much background info to blog outside of .mac! I guess I just want to design with iweb, and be able to use all the tools of my AN Hosting and wordpress.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Will I just send my whole "site" folder to my public folder at my personal domain?
You send the folder created by iWeb which has the same name as you gave your site inside the iWeb app, plus the index.html file which iWeb created alongside that folder.
How will I update each day?
By publishing again to a folder and uploading again via ftp.
(Can I set up iWeb so that when I click "publish" it will update my personal domain?)
No. If iWeb could do that you would not need an ftp program to start with.
I was planning on using some wordpress plugins to modify my site.
No idea, but generally speaking modifying iWeb to add stuff requires manual editing of the html after publishing and redoing it every time you republish.

  • FTP Client via iWeb

Can I use my iWeb site for a FTP Client?
I just downloaded Classic FTP for Mac and it's requesting that I designate a 'site'. I'm inexperienced in this area so not sure what I'm supposed to do.
Any guidance would be extremely appreciated.
    Barry

Publish your iWeb site to a local folder and designate that as the site.

  • IWeb's built in ftp client won't upload new files

iWeb's built in ftp client is mad at me, refusing to upload new files. No doubt because last Sunday I asked GoDaddy to change my domain name (same site, name changed). They did. Immediately nothing would upload. GoDaddy said "Well some FTPs are picky." Problems continued so I said OK, please change the domain name back to its previous name, and all would be put right again. I thought.
No so. iWeb's ftp client seems still offended for having been disturbed. I make a change. Save. Click Publish Site Changes. Get the window saying Content Rights. Click Continue. The blue line scrolls nicely, "Publishing will continue in the background" shows, then **"Your site has been published"**...
...but no changes or files have been uploaded. The old page is the same.
Looks like I permanently po'd iWeb’s ftp. Should I give up and rebuild my site in a new folder? Try Fetch?
I shouldn't have done that stupid thing last Sunday. Live and learn.
    Help?

The root folder on the server is the top level one that you upload your files to.
You publish your website files to a local folder on your Mac. This produces an index.html file and a folder with the same name as your site in iWeb.
An FTP application transfers the files on your Mac to the root folder on the server using File Transfer Protocol.
Unlike Cyberduck, most shareware FTP applications will show both the files on your Mac and those on the server in the same window so its just a question of browsing to the folder containing your website files on your Mac and dragging them across to the icon of the root folder on your server. The application will take care of the rest.
The process really is just about as simple as dragging files from one folder on your Mac to another as long as you have the FTP application set up correctly.

  • IWeb integrated ftp won't connect. Settings confirmed via standard ftp client

I am nable to ftp via the iWeb integrated ftp interface. I have tested the settings via a standard ftp client without issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks! Joe

iWeb is kind of unusual in that it publishes a folder containing the website files and an external index.html that opens the home page. There's also a copy of this index.html file inside the folder.
This arrangement is to suit publishing to the Apple server - MobileMe - and is kind of illogical when publishing else where.
Uploading using the iWeb built in FTP means that the URL has the folder name in the path...
    http://www.domain-name.com/Site-Name/Page-Name.html
To avoid this, the site needs to be published to a local folder using the second method on the page I referred to above and the files inside the folder uploaded to the root on the server....

  • Using FTP clients to publish to iWeb

    I understand fully that:
    http://web.mac.com/YourMemberName/iWeb/SiteName
is the url for my iWeb site.
My question is how does that translate into the typical required login information of ordinary FTP clients such as Cyberduck?
I have tried many combinations of server names, user names, paths, passwords and NOTHING will get me logged into my iWeb site with an FTP client.
The "Publish" button in iWeb works fine, but for various reasons, I would like to access the site with an ordinary FTP client.
Thanks in advance for any help with this. I am a newbie to Mac and OS X, but have 20 years of serious experience with the MS juggernaut
    windowsrefugee

Like Tom mentioned, your iWeb site actually resides on your iDisk...and transfers to and from your iDisk are accomplished through the webDAV protocol instead of FTP. Goliath is a webDAV client. You can also accomplish an "upload" to your iDisk just by mounting your iDisk to your desktop (Apple-Shift-i) and then dragging and dropping whatever you want to transfer. Windows also supports webDAV, so the dragging and dropping transfers will work there, too, after you mount your iDisk as a network drive.
In terms of the URLs to use, the basic URL for your iDisk is as follows:
    http://idisk.mac.com/username
This and any other iDisk URL should prompt for your .Mac username and password.
You can also specify exactly which folder you want to access by appending the appropriate foldername to the end of the basic URL.
As far as how all this fits with iWeb, consider the following example...
    http://web.mac.com/username is quasi-equivalent to http://idisk.mac.com/username/Web/Sites/index.html
...Except that it would prompt you for your .Mac username and password. This would be an interesting and alternative way to password protect your site if you wanted to do it with your .Mac user/pass.

Check if any of the below have an older version by contacting the author for your 10.4.11:
    http://www.rbrowser.com/
    http://rsug.itd.umich.edu/software/fugu
    http://cyberduck.io/
    http://panic.com/transmit/
    http://fetchsoftworks.com/
Or use Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal to do command line FTP:
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-use-ftp-from-terminal-to-transfer-m ac-files.navId-400509.html
Upgrading to 10.6.8 should still give you mostly the same compatibility as 10.4.11. Upgrading to 10.7 and above won't.

  • FTP client is not working in active mode

    Hi,
I have a ftp issue trying to download iweb files.
My provider enabled me a ftp access.
I tried to connect to it with transmit or rbrowser ftp client (passive mode disabled). The connection works well but i can not retrieve the list of files.
However using my PC and filezilla ftp client in active mode, the connection did work properly.
Any idea to help make this connection work on my mac ?
    Thanks

    Perhaps this will help...
    http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
"The main problem with active mode FTP actually falls on the client side. The FTP client doesn't make the actual connection to the data port of the server--it simply tells the server what port it is listening on and the server connects back to the specified port on the client. From the client side firewall this appears to be an outside system initiating a connection to an internal client--something that is usually blocked."

  • ILife 08 to 09 iWeb question (and a question about DW while I'm here)

I was thinking of upgrading to iLife 09 for just a couple of reasons:
    (1) The iPhoto face recognition feature looks cool and I want to try it. I have tens of thousands of photos of friends from nearly 30 years in my iPhoto and it might be fun.
    (2) I basically like iWeb 08, but hate the way it deals with multiple sites. I always have to publish everything, but in iWeb 09 it looks like I can single out just a single site for publishing, even via FTP. is that right?
Recently I also acquired Dreamweaver because of some work I'm doing for a company. But I find I can't even do basic simple things, like drag around text or insert a web widget (some HTML in a box) to move around and position - like I can do in iWeb.
Are things like that possible in Dreamweaver?
I can't even figure out how to add new text somewhere on a blank page in Dreamweaver. And everything I create looks boxy, plain and clunky. I am obviously not a web designer - I am a web application programmer.
With Dreamweaver I feel like I stepped into some 20th century web authoring tool. With iWeb everything I create looks nice even though I have no artistic talent myself.
    doug

I don't mind publishing to a folder and uploading using my FTP client, but it seems I have to publish ALL the sites each time to the folder and then just upload the one site's folder I was editing. So it takes a long time each time I publish to the folder. There is no way around that, is there?
About my DW question, it was "in comparison to iWeb". If I asked in a Dreamweaver forum if DW could do this thing that iWeb could do, somebody would probably say, "Why don;t you ask your question on an iWeb forum?"
    Thanks,
doug@hoping this discussion doesn't digress into whether I should post my question here or not
