IWeb 08 and photo pages!!!!?

when updating my old domain file to the new format, i seemed to have lost all the photos on my old photo pages and the formatting is not correct. I thought what the ****, need to refresh the site so decided to create new photo pages etc, using the new index page as well.
So completed the new pages, saved the domain, published to .mac. site look fine!!!!! Closed iWeb, then opened it again and low and behold, lost the photos and the formating gone.
Anyone know of a fix?
Regards
Mark

I had a problem with photos missing from Photo pages. I just talked to Apple support and we were able to fix the problem for my domain!
The Apple support person said that some domain files are not being properly updated to 2.0. In those cases, peoples are experiencing missing pictures and text as navigation on photo pages.
One indicator if your domain was properly updated to 2.0 is to look at the filename in User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/. In my case the file was Domain.sites and not Domain.sites2 so the initial conversion did not complete properly.
The solution was to replace incorrectly updated Domain.sites file above with the original backup that I made before installing iWeb 2.0. (NOTE - The readme clearly states to backup this file before installing and luckily I did.)
After copying the file to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb, make sure that iWeb is closed (not running). I then double clicked the Domain.sites folder and patiently wait for the Progress bar to complete. (Thank you to another poster on another thread for this suggestion.) You will not receive any success message other than the file will be renamed Domain.Sites2.
After multiple saves and publishes, it appears that everyone now works correctly. The Apple support person was very interested in user feedback and wants more people to report issues via phone. He took my original domain file (via his iDisc account) so he could submit it to engineering for them to study. It sounds like they could still use a few more examples of Domains that fail the initial upgrade to 2.0.
Hope this helps.

  • IWeb and photo corrections and importing photos

Yeah, another iWeb problem. I both love and hate the application. I hadn't had this problem before now. I imported many, many photos into albums (via Aperture...) before noticing that the photos in download mode on my website were showing up at half the pixel size that the originals were. The photo download option is checked as 'original' so that's not it. I did a little checking and couldn't figure out why iWeb is importing these photos from Aperture at half size... So, I did an end run around it and dragged and dropped directly from the folder to iWeb. Great, right? Nope... started noticing that the photos that I am dragging in are not holding their corrections (mainly brightness/contrast) that I had applied in Photoshop. They show up fine in the folder, they look fine as I am dragging them, but when I release in the iWeb folder/page they lose their corrections? HUH?!?
No matter what I do (dragging them from the folder or from the desktop is the same...) they lose the corrections in iWeb... They still hold their corrections if I drag them from the Aperture sidebar in iWeb, but then they are half sized...
And no, the optimize images on import button is NOT checked, thought for sure that that would be the problem. Any thoughts, ideas on either problem, the size issues or the corrections... What determines the size that iWeb chooses for display? I notice that there are three listings when I upload them in FileZilla...
And on a side note, the preview images in the main album page show low res images... What controls the resolution for them and could this be somehow related?
I also tried to export a photo from Aperture which shows the correct resolution of 1280 X 1280 to the Desktop and got a correct 1280 X 1280 image. Dragged it into iWeb and it kept the corrections as well, but when published, the website displays a half size image with a 640 X 640 download size... Sigh...

Did you reboot?  That often clears out caches and corrects errant behavior in apps. That and deleting the preference file. Either that or offering the right sacrifice to the computer gods.

  • Iweb missing photo pages that exist on my .mac page...  can I get em back?

recently upgraded to iWeb 09.... I published a photo page from iPhoto, and all went well - however, now I'm ready to publish another new one, and I notice that what exists on the .mac site has about 5 more entries than my local set as seen in iWeb ... I'm afraid if I publish again, those 5 will disappear forever... how can I get those entries back into iWeb on my mac? is there a way to make the .mac content sync with my macbook?
    thanks!
    HELP!

I'm just unclear on how my local copy of the website on my macbook is different from the one on .Mac - and how to sync them back up.
You can't sync them back up. There is a iWeb project file named "Domain" on your mac that has the info for your iWeb project. Then there is the published files that are on .mac for your published site. There is no way to convert your published site files back into an iWeb project file. You have to rebuild your lost pages in iWeb. Hopefully you are now clear about the difference between iWeb project file and iWeb published files in that you can not turn iWeb published files into an iWeb project file.

  • Album and Photo Pages Paint In/Refresh Slowly

It seems about 60 days or so ago, everything worked fine. When displaying a picture page or one linked through albums, the screen view painted in very quickly. Now it hesitates on showing the album view and really takes a long time for the picture pages. Slow as it...paint in one picture border, then another, then another, then start filling the border with a picture or two, then another and so on. This all occurs when viewed using Safari, which one would expect to be synced pretty efficiently with iWeb. Try the same using Firefox and everything works the way it used to in Safari. I know it's not my Internet connection and speed. I'm on DSL 6 and do not see the slow down anywhere else. I'm thinking it may be the way that iWeb handles the number of images I've posted...but it shouldn't if Firefox doesn't have the issues. Have a look for yourself and tell me what you see and think: http://www.shutterartphotography.com/MHS/HOME/HOME.html

I found Safari 3.0.4 quicker on the entry page and only slightly slower on the photo pages. I've got a very fast cable connection but did see a hesitation on the entry page in loading. In the photo pages Safari would load the frames slightly before adding the photos. FF2 was a bit fasters.

  • Enhancement Please! iWeb and Photo resizing

    Hey all
I take loads of photos @ 7Megapixels which results in large file sizes. Fantastic when I want to blow them up. But to drop publish them onto iWeb it copys the graphic/photo rather than asking if you wish to resize or lower the quailty. As we know the same image will look great with a much higher compression rate when viewed.
any views on this as I think it would be a great enhacement!
    Cheers
    Carl

In which templates and in what situations are you seeing this happen? I certainly don't experience the same thing. For example, I have four photo pages on a site on which I've been playing around with iWeb [link to the photo 'menu' page here: <http://web.mac.com/curlytool/iWeb/iWebTryout/Photos.html>].
Comparing file sizes between originals and published versions for one of these pages I see that the largest of my originals is 1.4 MB @ 1,464 x 1,054 pixels. This has been converted to PNG and reduced to 180 KB @ 700 x 120 for use in the page header, and (still as a JPG this time) to 156 KB @ 800 x 576 for display when its thumbnail is clicked and in the slideshow. This applies both when I publish to .Mac and to a local folder.
Resizing of this nature is standard in my experience with iWeb. With photo albums in particular, images are changed to a maximum height of 800 pixels to suit the requirements of the new slideshow. I have to say, however, that my experience is limited to the Modern template. Perhaps the situation is different with others.

  • IWeb 09 major bug - losing site - believe it's photo albums and photo pages

I have repeatedly lost my site now 3 times since upgrading.
The problem appears to be when editing photo album pages with a few photo albums on them and then rearranging those albums and pages between sites.
I can't be more specific at this stage, as it's happening relatively randomly, but am curious if others have discovered similar problems.
FWIW I am recovering by using time machine and backups.

I too had major problems with iWeb '09. I was unable even to publish to a local folder without getting an error message "Unknown error" (really, really helpful). I published a site created and maintained by iWeb '08 four times to separate local folders within an hour, not changing the site at all during that period. Only about 90% of the contents were published. Typically what was missing was some photo albums and blogs, although not always the same photo albums.
After some careful poking about in my MobileMe-published site I noticed that some particular pages were not publishing to a local folder. Upon investigation I discovered that some of the photo albums, whilst appearing in the sidebar in iWeb '09, did not appear on the main albums page. It seems that, for whatever reason, iWeb '09 had lost the links to these. I deleted the pages from the sidebar and then turned my attention to Blogs. This was the other area where I noticed that publishing seemed to have a problem.
One of the problems seemed to be that there was a link to a, by now, 'lost' photo album. Editing the link and then re-publishing to a local folder at last cured the problem. I have yet to publish to MobileMe, but at last things are looking good in the 'test' phase.
It seems that, unless your iWeb '08-created site was relatively simple, some editing HAS to be done in iWeb '09 before publishing. I hope that this answers more questions than it poses!

  • How to use photos from a *shared iphoto library* in iWeb's Photos page

I have a large library of pictures in iPhoto. I am sharing it with my wife's Mac on our LAN. She would like to use many of these photos on my Mac in an iWeb page. We're both using 10.4.10 with G5s.
When we try to drag them over from my shared iPhoto library, we get the following error:
"Some items can't be used because you don't have enough access privileges or because they contain no content or they are corrupted.
    unable to add object
    unable to add object"
Sometimes it imports only the name of the picture to the iWeb page.
Is there a way around this? I tried messing with the Get Info "Permissions" section of my iPhoto folder. But nothing seemed to change.

    iPhoto can not merge libraries
And you must NEVER Import an iPhoto library - it does not work and creates a massive mess
To merge libraries you must either use Aperture (being phased out this year) or the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -
Or continue to have two libraries and switch between them

  • Slideshow won't play on iweb and make page disappear

Hello. I have been jacking with this program for a month now with some success and some failure. Today I was revisited by something I thought I resolved: My webpage disappeared from my album page that contains all the links to my pages. It is gone from both my computer version and of course the published version. It shows in the sidebar in iweb, but not on the page?
    http://web.me.com/tedcarlos/FamilyTrips_and_visits/Family_Trips_and_visits/Family_Trips_andvisits.html
I had deleted this missing page before and stated over and it seem to work, but after my last edit, it was gone again.
I have been trying to publish an iphoto slideshow that I had exported as a movie for weeks. My mac people can see it, my PC family members cannot! I' tried to make it small for the web, changed the filename to mp4 from mpv4, but PC people still could not see it. So I tried to put the slideshow movie in as a huge .mpeg and it disappeared. ( I had made an avi file but it looked horrible so used the equally as large but better ,mpeg)
I am getting the idea that it can only be done with imovie! Is than an authoritative step by step on iphoto 08,quicktime pro, and Iweb so I can put all these things together?

You can't burn a video dvd using just PSE. Adobe wants you to use Premiere Elements to create the final video disc. If you have PRE, use that. If not, just output the slideshow as a WMV file and use whatever burning software you have, even Windows DVD maker, to create the actual video disc.
The only kind of video disc PSE can make is the hateful VCD format, which is always terrible in quality and not well supported anymore. It was a good idea back when DVD burners were very expensive, but it's archaic now.

  • IWeb and Photo Album/Slideshows

My apologies if this topic has been done before. But I didn't find anything specific to answer my question here on the board.
For starters, I'm new to iWeb. Actually, aside from a .MAC account I'm new to web design period. I was wondering if someone could walk me through the process of adding a slideshow or photo album to my yet to be published iWeb site.

  • IWeb Photo Pages vs. MobileMe Gallery

I post a personal blog with quite a few pictures. Does anyone know the advantages to using an iWeb Albums/Photo pages versus using the widget to link to MobileMe galleries?

You should look at the user experience. iWeb albums are attractive and easy for the user to use. Widgets can be useful for a quick way to link to an external gallery but as a user I would find it a less attractive option than the iWeb albums. Would you, if you were a stranger visiting the site, find one or the other option more or less attractive?
The greatest advantage with any web page element is where the user finds something enticing, and therefore wanting to return to the site. You optimize with that as your first thought and then design accordingly.

  • Trying to figure how photos "travel" from iPhoto to my iWeb photo pages

    Greetings,
I have I believe gotten t understand just about all I need for now about building web sites with iWeb and its templates (for now). Works well. I am publishing to my .Mac account (for now).
Now, I want to fully understand how photos albums/pages are kept up/coordinated, on my computer, on .Mac Gallery and on the actual .Web site (on .Mac)
Here what I have done so far in regard to posting and upkeeping photos (works well!):
Selected pics from iPhoto >>> Made albums on my MBP
    Published Albums on Web Gallery
    Built website with iWeb
Built photo pages/my album page (indexing)
Inserted my Web Gallery albums into my website
Published the whole thing on .Mac.
    My questions:
*1. Somewhere in Tutorials, it says that: "with .Mac Web Gallery, you can get the shots you wish you had by allowing friends to contribute photos (from their browsers, email). And, whenever new photos are added, they are automatically sinced to your iPhoto08 library".* I am assuming same should/would happen when my iWeb site viewers upload theirs pics (which I am encouraging!) to my Web galleries via my iWeb site. I do not see that happen however. Web gallery gets of course updated by such uploads, +but NOT iPhoto library.+
    2. Some other iWeb Tutorial states *"If you are a .Mac member, you can publish photos/movies from iPhoto and iMovie directly to your Web Gallery. When a Gallery photo album is updated, your website is updated automatically with the new content."*. In the case of my site viewers' uploads to my gallery, works OK, but +my site's pages do not show the new photos.+. Any way to better coordinate my .Mac Web galleries with my (also) .Mac Web Pages?
I hope this is clear enough. I have LOOKED for some more info/tutorial about iWeb/Web Galleries/Viewer photo uploads from my Web site, but have not founded anything specific.
    Thanks for any advice!
    - Roger Y

_*Thanks a lot, Wyodor for your detailed reply.*_
It just happens that I have gotten quite fond of the way iLife as a suite - along with its online (.Mac in my case) components) seem to keep a good, purposeful flow of things going.
So, indeed, as I am currently looking at the stuff on my .Mac site, Web GAllery and My Pages respective materials are not actually linked in terms, especially, of allowing Web Gallery albums' updates to "flow" into My Pages areas.
Too bad in a way! Unless I decide to use the Widget feature in iWeb to link my website photo pages specifically to Web Gallery albums - as suggested by Roddy. Currently I use iWeb template system - with Photo Pages and MyAlbums index.
    You stated:
+"Your iWeb page shows the tiny player with your dotMac Webgallery.+
+Click on the tiny player, and the full Web gallery opens."+
    Where is that button actually?
"Your iPhoto library will be update updated vice versa."
I'll have to check that out then!
    Thanks again!

  • My web page, created on iWeb and up and running since 2011, is no longer on iWeb. Where did it go?

I created a webpage on iWeb in 2011. It's on line. It has worked great. Tonight I wanted to do some editing, which I do about monthly, I opened iWeb and my page is gone. Where did it go?

You need to find your iWeb data storage.
Everything to do with iWeb is stored under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
It is your domain.sites file that you need to find, as this is where all your data is stored.  Find that file and double click it and iWeb will open it and you have your site.
If you can't find the file, either do a spotlight search or use the App find any file.

  • Changing image size on a photo page

Is there any way to increase the size (in detail or slideshow view) of images on an iWeb "photos" page?
I've made several "photos" pages in iWeb by dragging images from aperture or iPhoto into iWeb, but the pictures always end up almost uselessly small/low-resolution on the resulting web page (even after clicking on a thumbnail or opening the slideshow). I mean: a 10 megapixel image ends up filling about 1/4 of a typical web browser screen. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    -Mike

For Album and photo pages the default large viewing size is 800 x 600 pixels. On some computers they are displayed smaller. There are a number of topics on this subject and there may be a connection to the graphic card being used. Not sure though. The workaround for this is to use a different type of presentation which will let you set the display size of the image.
One such presentation is via Jalbum which has over 100 skins/themes to choose from. This demo page has a couple of examples: Jalbum Examples.

  • Changing thumbnail image orientations in photo page

    Hello Guys!
I have created a new photo page in iweb09 and tried dragging some images from the image folder on my system. The Problem is i have few portrait oriented images but all of them display as landscape in the thumbnail gallery. The flip option in the inspector does not solve the problem too.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do those photos display correctly if dragged from your HD into a Safari window? If not use Xee to losslessly rotate the photos and then add to iWeb's photo page. See if that won't produce correct thumbnails.
Or import those photo into iPhoto which will create a rotated modified version and thumbnail and add that to iWeb via the Media Browser.

  • ?? appear on My Album/Photo Pages

I have 2 ?? appear on my Album and photo pages. When I visit the published site, they aren't there, but show up when I view online. I've tried for a week to figure out the glitch, but haven't found it. What am I missing? It's at: http://www.ohlsenclayworks.com/Index/Gallery/Gallery.html

Are you publishing to .Mac or to a non .Mac server? It may be a Unicode issue if it's a non .Mac server. I don't know enough about that particular issue but a search of this forum for unicode may get you to some topics where it's discussed.
It appears to be some character that's been added that is not supported. Maybe some character in a text box that you didn't know you created and appears invisible in iWeb. It appears in the code as: class="bumper">.
Do a select all in iWeb for the page and see if there are any items in the vicinity of where those characters are displayed online.
