IWeb 08 and Static Pages

I just purchased a new iMac and am trying to learn how to use iWeb 08. I used Adobe Page Mill 3.0 in my old iMac for 8 years, so this is different. I built almost 400 web pages with Page Mill and most are static and don't need regular updating. I only need to change about 20 pages on a regular basis. How do I update some pages with iWeb 08 while leaving other pages built with Page Mill alone? I am used to uploading with Fetch in the old iMac, so I'm using a new version of Fetch with the new iMac.

Would you explain? iWeb places new files in a site folder and also publishes a separate index.html file. What do you mean by "Whether you would include any of the index.html files created by iweb depends on the structure of where you are putting the iweb files?"
If you are adding iWeb-created pages to a pre-existing site someplace, it will presumably already have an index.html file. In that case you will probably want to discard the ones produced by iWeb, since they are designed for situations where iWeb is producing an independent, self-contained site. These index.htmls do not have any content, but simply redirect to the topmost page of the iweb site, e.g. Home.html.

Flash and static pages

Hello all. I am new to posting so please be nice. I am
building a flash site and would like a page or something on how-to
link my flash.swf file to a page outside of the flash file (.fla) .
Let me explain a bit more... I would like a way for my wife to be
able to use Dreamweaver or something and edit a .html file that the
flash links to that would then show the page. So, basically when yo
goto the website it would show the smal flash at the beginning and
some flash page links but the actual content is really just a
static .html file. Make sense? Can someone please point me to a
how-to page or something?

Look in your Flash Help for "getURL".
Basically, attach the code to a button in your FLA that, when
pressed, opens a new page. Your SWF resides in an HTML page as it
is... this will open a new one. If the new page needs to link back
to the SWF, it links back to the HTML page that holds it. Is this
what you mean?

Slideshow won't play on iweb and make page disappear

Hello. I have been jacking with this program for a month now with some success and some failure. Today I was revisited by something I thought I resolved: My webpage disappeared from my album page that contains all the links to my pages. It is gone from both my computer version and of course the published version. It shows in the sidebar in iweb, but not on the page?

I had deleted this missing page before and stated over and it seem to work, but after my last edit, it was gone again.
I have been trying to publish an iphoto slideshow that I had exported as a movie for weeks. My mac people can see it, my PC family members cannot! I' tried to make it small for the web, changed the filename to mp4 from mpv4, but PC people still could not see it. So I tried to put the slideshow movie in as a huge .mpeg and it disappeared. ( I had made an avi file but it looked horrible so used the equally as large but better ,mpeg)
I am getting the idea that it can only be done with imovie! Is than an authoritative step by step on iphoto 08,quicktime pro, and Iweb so I can put all these things together?

You can't burn a video dvd using just PSE. Adobe wants you to use Premiere Elements to create the final video disc. If you have PRE, use that. If not, just output the slideshow as a WMV file and use whatever burning software you have, even Windows DVD maker, to create the actual video disc.
The only kind of video disc PSE can make is the hateful VCD format, which is always terrible in quality and not well supported anymore. It was a good idea back when DVD burners were very expensive, but it's archaic now.

My web page, created on iWeb and up and running since 2011, is no longer on iWeb. Where did it go?

I created a webpage on iWeb in 2011. It's on line. It has worked great. Tonight I wanted to do some editing, which I do about monthly, I opened iWeb and my page is gone. Where did it go?

You need to find your iWeb data storage.
Everything to do with iWeb is stored under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
It is your domain.sites file that you need to find, as this is where all your data is stored. Find that file and double click it and iWeb will open it and you have your site.
If you can't find the file, either do a spotlight search or use the App find any file.

Serving static pages from a web application

          My weblogic environment is a a front end proxy server (httpclusterservlet or apache) for
          session failover and static page serving, and a weblogic server. I have built my application as a
          web application creating a .WAR file which is deployed on the weblogic server (and defined in the
          weblogic.properties file). The problem is static pages in the web app cannot be found (because
          they are jar'ed up in the .WAR file). Am I missing something here? Has anyone encounter a similar
          problem?

Just in-case anyone els runs into this, I figured it out... I was working from my hotel and apperantly the fire wall was not allowing anything to uplaod, but I wasn't getting an error message from iweb, it would say that everything was published succesfully even though it wasn't. Once I went home and used my connection eveything worked fine.

I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching). Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

Deleted pages in iWeb and on hosting site but still appear in navbar?

I've deleted a couple of pages in a site built in iWeb and also deleted the files and html of those pages where my site is hosted (Earthlink). However, I'm still seeing the names of those pages in the navbar — NOT in iWeb, but when i actually access the site. The pages themselves are not there anymore, but their names remain in the navbar (and click through to an error msg).
This makes me think I haven't uploaded all the necessary changes. Where does the code for the navbar reside? I reloaded the home file+html (among other pages) but not the index.

If you are using the iWeb default navigation, try publishing to a local folder and upload the feed.xml with your FTP application.

Aperture created homepages and iWeb created web pages

Is there a way around the fact that Aperture created pages go into a "homepage.mac.com" directory when iWeb goes to "web.mac.com" directory??
The problem is to get all my creations (from Aperture and/or iWeb) into the same folder = much easier to give one type of address to my friends and family!
Precisely, can I change iWeb-like web sites into Aperture-like web sites ?

i have both and i don't know if you can or can't, i was thinking about just making the aperture album and copying the layout if need in iweb and linking to the aperture site. I have yet to make a site in aperture though, i will keep a look out for any info

Search static pages AND database tables

Hi,
I'm working on a project in which I have static content
pages, plus I'm creating a set of dynamic pages that display jobs
and events listings etc. The dynamic pages are going to run off an
access database.
I'm need to create a search facility on the site. At present
I'm planning to use a drop down box (or radio buttons ?) to allow
the user to select which part of the site to search (main site,
jobs or events), the selection will determine which search page the
form query is passed to (site text search or database query search
page).
Am I approaching this correctly.
Can anyone comment on possibly a better or alternative way of
providing such a search option ? (searching both static pages and
database tables)

IWeb 08: Static horizontal menu with background image

Hi
I want to make a static horizonal menu bar. I want to have a 800px x 40px black bar that has a background image from the same size. The reason of a background image is because I want a logo to be in that menu. I have searched in google for samples but I haven´t been able to find one that is simple and that I can incorporate the logo in the background. Can somebody tell me a link to a place to get this or tell me a code ? I don´t know html thou

Don't really understand exactly what you are asking here? Why do you need any code to create a menu bar? You can do this very easily in iWeb.
To create a menu bar:
1. Open your page in iWeb and then open the Inspector and go to Page and click on 'Hide from menu' and 'Don't include in menu and this will turn off the iWeb built in template navigation menu.
2. To create your own menu bar, simply use either a text box or a shape and make it 800px by 40px and then place it on your page where you want your nav menu to be and type in your links and then hyperlink them to your pages by opening the Inspector and opening Hyperlink - 2nd from the end and then highlighting the text and linking to relevant pages and then setting the colours via the format link.
Don't quite understand why you want a background image in a nav menu? It will be very hard to get anything of those sizings and people do not usually have a background image in a nav menu - normally a colour. A nav menu is not the place for background images or logos - it is too small and all this should be in your header section instead.
If you want more help, then please be precise about what you are asking.

I am having a similar problem to the one described by this post here:

However, his resolution of changing web.config under wwwroot did not fix my issue.
Here is the situation on a recently upgraded SP2010.
1) Create a document library. Set the document template to "basic page"
2) give a user full control on the document library.
3) Go, under that users credentials, to the document library and create a new document.
4) Name the document whatever and hit create
5) a page is displayed which says the following: "Web Part Error:
A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. You don't have Add and Customize Pages permissions required to perform this action."
6) Become confused as giving someone "full control" on the library should obviously inherit the permissions to when they create a document and try and edit it.
If i give the user "full control" on the entire site (site actions -> site permissions), then the document pops open an editor which would allow you to add content to the basic page. Obviously, i do not want to give users full control to the
entire site :)
Giving the user "Add and Customize Pages" permissions on the entire SITE allows them to edit get the popup to edit the file, but this is not desireable either since then they could "Add, change, or delete HTML pages or Web Part pages,
and edit the Web site using a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible editor.". I do not want them to edit any web pages, i just want them to edit a particular lists webpage!
Things i have tried:
- Set the permissions on the "MSContentEditor" webpart to have the user have full control of the web part.
- set the permissions on ALL the web parts to have the user have full control (permissions on the web parts list)
- Edited web.config to add a line to mark "contentEditorWebPart" as safe, and then restarted IIS.
- Recreated test lists and was able to duplicate the behaviour
So I am wondering, is this a sharepoint bug or what? Should a web part not inherit the permissions of the list it is working in? if not, what are the exact items i need to set permissions on to get this webpart to display correctly?
Setting global site permissions is not an option.
Another workaround is to make a "wiki page library" which allows you to copy and paste text into a static page, and also edit that text. I can move all the content over to a "wiki page library", and thats what i probably will end up doing
in the end, but its annoying because there is alot of content to move, and it all has to be done by hand as you cannot upload documents to a wiki afaik. Also the wiki uses a different editor, its inline instead of a popup in IE which is probably why it is
working.
This may not be a bug and could be a simple permissions problem or something else, but i have been looking at this for hours and it doesnt make any sense to me.

Yes, you must have “Add and Customize Pages” permission
from site level to perform this action, the permission is not in list permission level.
You can add a new permission level which only includes “Add and Customize Pages” permission, and then create new SharePoint group with this permission
level.
Add the users into the SharePoint group and these users will get the “Add and Customize Pages” permission
from site level.(site permissions)
Additionally to add/edit page, the users also need the permission level “Contributor” in list permission level.
(you should know when you grant the full control to the users in list permission level, the users won’t get the permission from site level)

Can't get Movie Exported in Quicktime format to work in iWeb and Website

Help!! I just completed a movie in iMovie and exported it in Quicktime Format. It loads into iWeb seamlessly, and I can view it in iweb, but once I save the files to a folder and then the folder to my host (Godaddy, for what it is worth) I get the Blue Quicktime Q with the question mark in the middle. I have downloadd the movie in different sizes, from as much as 19 Mb down to 4.5 Mb and it is all the same. It is for a real estate listing I have. For what it is worth. I created my first website in iweb 1.0 and imovie 06 (http:www.1055Prince.info) and it works great. I created my second website with iweb 2.0 and imovie 08 (http:www.1045Prince.info) and it will not work. I like the design of the 2.0 template better, but I like the fact that the 1.0 template is working flawlessly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

iWeb writes very clever page code and your page had a very common error.
http://www.1045prince.info/VideoTour_files/VideoTour.js is a file created by iWeb that points to your QuickTime file.
If you use the Finder to edit the name prior to Publishing in iWeb things will be just fine and the link will work as designed. Do not edit any file name before uploading to your server and make sure your files use "Web safe" naming schemes (no spaces, punctuation or illegal characters) and the proper file extension.
