Iweb 08 crashes

I have been experiencing crashes, over and over with this software. I've created a Quicktime gallery using the photo gallery template. There are about 250 files there so far. What happens is that I place the movies into the template, save it and upload it to mac.com. Everything works online but then when I go to open the iweb file on my computer, it crashes (it won't open and then gives an error message-unexpectedly closed) .
In order to troubleshoot this I've visit a mac genius at my local store (stumped him), rebuilt permissions, created a new lib file, reinstalled iLife, recreated the entire site adding a few QT files at a time and saving after each to see if it crashes (in order to see if there is a bad movie file) Once it crashes the only way to reopen iWeb is to trash the domain file and start again. This has repeated at least ten times...though the crash seems to not be related to anything specific.
Any ideas? I'm really getting fed up. I can usually solve problems but this one seems really deep. Is there a way to examine the files in the domain package to see what might be corrupted?

Go to Home Folder/Library/Preferences and delete the "com.apple.iWeb.plist" file.
If this doesn't work, delete it again and do a restart of your Mac.
Also, its a good idea to run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions.

I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

    First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Next, in Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

don't know the answer to ur question but the title of your post is iWeb crashes when I try to start it...just letting u know. Hope u find a solution!

  • IWeb crashes every time I try to publish a site

As the title states, iWeb crashes every time I hit the publish button. It worked fine for a long time, but now I am unable to publish anything to mobile me.
    iWeb 09 / 10.6.1 / Mac Mini (Intel Core 2 Duo)

Deleting the plist file worked on that problem. Then I developed the SF Word Processing problem and this fixed that:

What I already tried to fix it: uninstall and reinstall iWeb (from the Leopard-Disk that came with my iMac, then updated to 2.04), repaired permissions, launch iWeb under another User-Account (hasn´t been used under this account before) - didn´t change anything.
iWeb worked fine with Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

The location of these files is on my system the same as on your mac:
But how should I find out, if _CGLayerComposite is part of these ApplicationServices for - as far as I understand- we´re talking of services and not of an application.
I launched console.app to see what´s happenig while iWeb crashes while saving:

  • IWeb crashed. Most recent page (mostly) lost. Suggestions?

Okay, I've searched the forum and am afraid I already know the answer, but I'll post this anyway.
On a month-old iMac (24 inch, 3.06 GHz), I was working on a page yesterday of vacation pictures. I keep pages of pictures of my daughter for out-of-town relatives, creating a new page for each month. I just started the August page and was placing 145 captioned pictures on the page. Midway through, iWeb crashed, and when the app restarted, the August page had been replaced by a generic page with three "Drag Your Photos Here" frames. An hour's worth of work had evaporated. And, no, I had not saved.
So I started again--and this time I saved frequently. I eventually added all 145 pictures and captioned each. I saved and then uploaded to MobileMe. Then I left the computer to accomplish other tasks. When I returned, I saw the message that iWeb had again crashed and when I relaunched it--in spite of my multiple saves--the page was lost and iWeb had reverted to a pre-saved condition with the same generic page described above.
I went to the Domain.sites2 file and reopened it, but my August page was lost.
I searched the discussion threads. I read the iWeb FAQ pages (http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html). I used extensive profanity.
The most frustrating part is that it did correctly upload to MobileMe, so my family has access to these pictures... but I don't. I want to keep adding to the August page.
I understand that I'm probably going to have to recreate the page. *But I don't want to waste 90 minutes or 2 hours of my time just to have the same thing happen a third time*.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

To help you recover for unusual situations in the future you can use Varkgirl's Automator workflow which will compress (zip) and backup the contents of your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Documents folder. You can get if from Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site. Or Click Here to download it directly from her site.
I've created a modified version which does not zip the domain file but copies the entire iWeb folder to the Desktop. You can edit the file with Automator to change the destination of the copied folder to wherever you'd like. You can download it from Toad's Cellar .

  • Iweb crashes when I save

I have just updated some pages on my existing website and successfully published the site. However when I went to save the changes it says 'The document “Domain.sites2” could not be saved.' So I reebooted and tested by making 1 or 2 amendments, select save and now iweb crashes everytime. I have tried swapping the domain.site for an older one in Time Machine but iweb still keeps crashing on save. Help !

Move your domain file to the desktop, launch iWeb, create a new site, add some stuff and see if you can save. If not then delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, and try again.
If you can save the new domain file the first time, delete the iWeb preference file, move your original domain file back to the default location, open it and try again. If still a no go, copy the domain file to the Shared folder, log into another account, open the domain file with iWeb there and see if you can save. If not then a reinstall of iWeb seems warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
If you can save OK in the other account then the problem lies in your primary account. If that's the case it could be a preference file other than iPhoto's. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • IWeb crashes adding photo page

iweb crashes when adding a photopage to an existing site or trying to create a new site. 'iweb quit unexpectedly while using the SFWordProcessing plugin' given in Problem Report. Adding a blank page does not crash the application. Any ideas appreciated. Arnim

    Arnim:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That error message is a result of Snow Safari and iWeb having problems with the Hoefler Text font. See this site for one possible solution: http://iwebfaq.org/e-books/the-million-dollar-trick-or-how-to-fix-iweb-in-10-6-2 /
It may be you're trying to use a theme that uses that font.

    HELP!
    MAcBookPro 15", 2gbrm,10.4.x   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The the following sampling of things that have been suggested in the past. Any one of these things might help, since there are so many reasons why this might be happening.
    1. Delete your iWeb preferences file at
    Users/yourname/library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist
    2. Repair permissions on your startup disk with Disk Utility
    3. Restart your computer.
    Good luck.

  • IWeb crashed - all 'disappeared' and would not load.

iWeb crashed - everything 'disappeared' and would not load. I purchased 09, and have the files for the original iWeb site (which is still active) because I published them to a domain. What is the best/easiest way for me to put all the pages back into iWeb on my laptop so that I can update them. Because iWeb is so easy and I'm stumped when anything starts HTML-ing me!

What is the best/easiest way for me to put all the pages back into iWeb on my laptop so that I can update them
There is no best or easy way to get webpages back into iWeb because you cannot import webpages.
Copy/paste the text and objects from your existing pages is the only way.
But just to be sure, check the domain file in this folder:
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
(where ~ is our Home directory) and see if it still there. Double click the file to open it in iWeb.
If it fails, then you're out of luck.

  • IWeb crashes on startup

    Greetings,
Working on iWeb (version 3.0.2) today when there was a sudden power failure. Now, iWeb crashes on startup and I am not sure how to fix the problem. iWeb gets far enough into the startup to show the "Inspector" pallet before crashing. No other programs seem to have been affected. Have done the following:
Ran Disk Utility several times (kept showing the same errors as "fixed" each time I ran it)
    Restarted iMac (several times)
Tried reloading iWeb from Time Machine... still crashes on startup
Restarted iMac from Snow Leopard disk - ran Disk Utility (twice) - iWeb still refuses to start.
Read in "Apple Discussions" about trashing the plist, restarting, run Disk Utility - tried this but iWeb still crashes when trying to start.
Would appreciate some help or further ideas.
    Thanks

Welcome to the discussions. Try this:
    1. Go to Finder -> HomeFolder -> Library
    2. Move entire folder “Caches” to desktop
    3. Restart iWeb
    4. Delete "Caches" folder on desktop
If no luck with that, try booting in Safe Mode:
_Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?_
...Then boot normally and start iWeb. If still no luck, see the "Domain File Corruption" section here:

  • I can't publish - iWeb crashes every time I try

For the past 3 days, each time I try to publish, iWeb begins republishing all the pages and then just quits. I have been using the program for many months now and everything was fine. I added a lot of new photos. Could that be the problem? As far as I can tell, that is all I did. Any suggestions for getting back to my blog?

I am having the same problem. I have added another page to a site and iweb crashes. I have watched and it crashes at different times during the publish. I have tried to move the page around but nothing works. The last message I got was:

    HELP!!!

  • IWeb crashes when I try to publish link to .pdf or .doc

I have published links to documents (pdf/doc) on my iWeb website several times in the past, using MobileMe. But now iWeb crashes when I try to do this. I'm using the "insert hyperlink" function in the inspector. I have found that I can publish a doc by dragging it onto the page. That doesn't crash the program, and it publishes just fine. But I really need to link to a pdf, and nothing I try is working (can't drag pdfs onto iWeb to make links). I have used only 1GB of my 10GB iWeb account, and my subscription is up-to-date. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If you want to have the PDF viewable as well as downloadable on your page you can do the following:
1 - upload the pdf file to the server.
2 - create a hyperlink to the file on the server.
3 - use the Line to an External Page option in the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink pane.
4 - select or not the option to open the pdf in a new window.
When the link is clicked on the pdf will open in a a new window or not where it can be viewed and downloaded. This way you only have to upload the pdf file once regardless of how many times you reedit the page.
