IWeb '08 gone south

Hi,
I recently transferred all my stuff from an MBP to a new iMac + when I open iWeb I can see the templates I've created but none of my photos are there except in my blog. I created a new page with new photos and they are there. When I go to older pages it says things like:
missing file beBopblue_canvas_bg01.jpg, or
missing file 20046620001C-1.jpg
Anyone else having this problem?
Thanks

I haven't seen this missing file question since all the problems related to updating domain files when iWeb '08 was first introduced.
I take it that you are referring to a previously working domain.sites2 file and you have tried trashing it and the preferences and replacing it with a fresh copy from your old Mac.

My Mail program has gone south on Leopard on my 27-month old Macbook. I can't send, even though the server details are correct. I tried reinstalling the Mail program from the install DVD, but no go; apparently that two-year old Mail is no longer compatible with my up-to-date Leopard. I tried deleting the account (hotmail) from Mail and setting up a different account (Yahoo). After loading all the inbox two things happened: first, I still couldn't send, and second, when I closed the Mail window the whole inbox then disappeared and doesn't come back. Although I couldn't reinstall the Mail program from the install DVD, would it still be possible to reinstall the whole system from that DVD? If I do, will I lose files or will there be another problem since that DVD is now over two years old?
Thanks for any suggestions; they will be much appreciated.
P.S. I've just noticed that now I can't change the desktop picture: I go through the motions in Preferences, but the new picture doesn't appear on the desktop. Is there a systemic problem?

You are waiting for an apology to something that happened over a year ago? Really? This is why there is a manager in the store. You have a problem with an employee you speak to the manager. Just like you did on the phone. You would have gotten your apology in July 2013.
Here is the information about your upgrade fee.
    Upgrade Fee
It is because when you have a problem you (customers) go running to the store and want to take up the time of the reps to fix it. Other carriers have third parties that deal with technical support and those locations are few and far between. VZW provides this directly through their stores. Also, when you subsidize a $650 and pay $200 VZW has to pay $400. Your monthly service fee doesn't begin to scratch the surface of paying that back. Not with all the money that is put into the network and its improvements.
Then over a year later you get someone on the phone who apologized and offered to waive the fee on your phone and you didn't take it? That offer won't come down the pike again.
One thing you should know is that all these employees are people and as such they sometimes come off cross. I doubt that you speak to everyone so sweetly all the time. Cut them a little slack and put this whole thing behind you after 15 months. Either upgrade with VZW or move on.

Are my iWeb files gone? Can I retreive them?
I had serveral files up on the server from as far back as my .mac account. Are they gone?

Nothing which was stored on your iDisk, including websites, Gallery pictures, or any sort of files, exists any more. I'm not sure what you mean by 'are they of use via iWeb proceedure you describe?' but in any event you cannot retrieve any of these files.
If you open iWeb does it open to your website or to a blank site? If the former you can upload this as descibed in my page. If the latter you will have to start over from scratch. If you are in the latter case I would recommend not starting anything with iWeb, but finding another program to make your site - one which is still supported. As I mention in my page, RapidWeaver is worth looking at.

    Hi ...
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
If you are using Safari to view YouTube content, with Safari open, press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari, try a video.
And make sure Allow all other plug-Ins is selected in Safari > Preferences > Security
    As well as Allow Java.

  • IWeb application gone

Recently I upgraded to Leopard, but when I did the iWeb application disappeared from the applications folder. I inserted the Leopard install DVD into the computer and tried to install iWeb from the "Optional Installs" folder. But iWeb was not one of the applications in the optional installs folder. How can I get iWeb back on my mac??
    thanks,
    sci92

You need to install iWeb from the original installation disks that came with your Mac....unless you bought iLife 08 separately, in which case you need to install them from the iLife 08 disk.
Are iPhoto, Garage Band and iMovie gone, too?

  • Iweb site gone forever??

my hard drive was recently replaced, meaning my iweb site files are all gone. my site was up and working fine until i re-created juddheads.com in iweb, hoping that I would be able to copy and paste all of my old blog entries. of course what happened was that it published a blank site. does this mean that all of my information from juddheads.com is gone forever?

Did you bother to take a look at the URL that was mentioned in the OP? If you did you would discover that the published site does not contain any blog posts.
Further comprehension of the original post clearly states:
i re-created juddheads.com in iweb, hoping that I would be able to copy and paste all of my old blog entries. of course what happened was that it published a blank site.
FWIW, reading the post and offering a solution based on the posters situation is helpful, blindly posting a URL for the purpose of compensation that doesn't help the original poster with their clearly-explained situation is unhelpful.

  • IWeb Widgets gone from Published Site Hosted by GoDaddy

I have been using third-party widgets to create components for my iWeb (3.0.4 version) website. They are Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack items. (I copy to iWeb html snippet code windows the code from the Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widget and hit "apply" and they work in TEST mode). I tested everything on my site to a local file prior to publishing the site to the internet. Upon publishing to the internet, none of these Pro-Pack widgets are visible on my site. They all functioned fine when they were in Local file "TEST" mode. They don't even appear as blank boxes or question marks (which has happened when I have incorrect paths). I wonder if it is the pathways to GoDaddy? I have spoken to GoDaddy techs about my dilemma and they only say the path to my webroot is:
    /public_html
This I don’t understand. Don’t I need http://www. ….. and other file references to get to the specific file in my webroot at GoDaddy?
Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widgets I am using:
Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)
    Simple Hover Effect
    Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)
    Photo Slideshow
When I created the Pro-Pack widgets for iWeb I used file links (through GoDaddy hosting) like http://www.wildmonkeysproductioons.com/images/WMP_VIDEO_PHOTOS/....specific photo.jpg
or---inside the cover path [in Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)] or a Youtube link in the video path (example): http://www.youtube.com/embed/LWWLM8QhVaw?rel=0
I also have non-Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack generated widgets like Youtube video widgets that are also missing from the website. I believe the problem is not with my Pro-Pack widgets but with my pathways to GoDaddy.
Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful ideas?
I do not understand website building very well and website code, for sure, I do not know.
    Dan

I took your advice and changed some file and folder names. I then updated my widgets to create continuity of connection with their files and photos in GoDaddy's File Manager. Now the BeyondiWeb widgets [Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)] no longer recognize the path to them. No matter what I use as a path the link is broken.
GoDaddy says the following is the absolute path: /home/username/public_html/
    My user name: wildmonkeys
    Examples of paths are below:
    http://www.wildmonkeysproductions.com/public_html/WMP_Website_Banner_Photos/2013 _MCA_Symposium_GRAND_CANYON_Presentation-26_Dan_small.jpg
    /home/wildmonkeys/public_html/WMP_Website_Banner_Photos/2013_MCA_Symposium_GRAND _CANYON_Presentation-26_Dan_small.jpg
    /public_html/WMP_Website_Banner_Photos/2013_MCA_Symposium_GRAND_CANYON_Presentat ion-26_Dan_small.jpg
An example of a previously successful linked path (prior to file and folder name changes):
    http://www.wildmonkeysproductions.com/WMP Website Banner Photos-small Jpegs NEW/005-RIVER DISCIPLINE-02 Dan*-small

  • Iweb pages gone after reinstall-but websites OK

I had to reinstall the OS fresh and it was backed up. However the only thing I lost was the iweb websites in the program. If I log into .mac account, the websites are still there and I can navigate to them on the web. So they are there and working properly.
Now I need to add some photos to these websites that I don't see in iWeb any longer. How do I do that? Can I export these pages into iweb? Can I download something from my .mac account?
What do I do? My wife is going to kill me!!!! Help. please!!

iWeb stores all of the files, images, movies and text in one package file.
Since you didn't back up the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2 file (a package) your online files can't be edited and you must recreate them.

  • All iWeb files gone

All my files suddenly disappeared. No domains in Applications Support.
No iDisk anywhere. (The site is published with baremetal.com)
I have the files in a folder on my desktop, but HOW do I get them back
    into the iWeb application?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you have backup of the domain file? If not then, as Ethmoid pointed out, you'll have to rebuild from scratch. Paragraph 2.3 on this iWeb FAQ site has some tips that may make that process a little easier: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
In the future consider a backup strategy that will include the domain files. I've created an Automator workflow that will copy the Application Support/iWeb folder to the Documents folder. You can download it from Toad's Cellar. I suggest you consider getting an external FW hard drive so you can backup your boot drive to it on a regular basis.

  • Where has my iWeb site gone?

I had my iWeb site loaded onto my iDisk on my MobileMe account, and when I tried to access it, I was informed that MobileMe has ceased to exist, but that I could transfer all my MM files onto iCloud... I followed the instructions, but can't see my website files anywhere there.
In another (unrelated) problem, I can't find my local version of the iWeb site I had created... Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Do you still have your website available when you launch iWeb?  If so you don't need the published files from your iDisk.  Just publish the site to a folder on your hard drive.
If iWeb doesn't open with your website in it then look in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.  However, with Lion read the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • After an update to Mt.Lion, my iWeb was GONE, leaving me with my website on my host, but all my iWeb information on my computer was totally wiped out. I was able to load iWeb again, but I will have to start all over rebuilding my site...any suggestions?

Has anyone else lost their entire iWeb information after upgrading to MT. Lion? I did manage to upload iWeb again, but it's like I've started all over with no data, so I will have to totally rebuild my site -if I ues iWeb-and upload the entier site again, and I have no guarantees that I won't lose it again.

Did you do a clean install of Mt. Lion, i.e. an erase and install? If you didn't  do a clean instal check inside the User/Library/Applicatrion Support/iWeb folder to see if there's a file there named Domain.sites.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you don't have a backup strategy then this would be a good time to start one.  The simplest to start is to use Time Machine with an external HD that's at least 1.5 times the size of your boot drive.

  • IWeb all gone after "No saving of domain possible"

I created one more page in my existing site. iWeb refused saving saying "Domain could not be saved". I closed the iWeb. After opening, every page of my site is empty. On the iDisk one sees all the stuff, but how get it back?

Great, dear Edmond, because of the fast and - sadly - complete answer. What really would interest me, why APPLE did not change this? So many users complained the same stuff, but nothing! Obviously it is a mistake of the programme, because there is no other reason for this total crash with everything empty.
And the no-import, I really have problems to understand Apple's logic in this case. It is just causing many, many many hours of work to the user, and one never knows, when it happens the next time! Is there not even a possiblity to be safe, when it happens again?? I experienced this right in a moment where we had informed a lot of people to go there and have a look. Now I must set it up again in a hurry, and many people get already frustrated. (Yes, it is still there in the internet, but I detected yesterday first mistakes on one page (missing objects); and the necessary new page cannot be done, before everything works again.)
Thanks, have a nice weekend, Gerd (from Nicaragua)

  • New Hard drive - IWeb site gone

Today I brought home my IMac with it's new hard drive because the old died. I've been restoring from my external and while daunting, it's going okay.
When I click on my IWeb icon in the dock it opens as if I don't have a website already built. My IWeb site is still active, but I don't know how to get it back to IWeb so I can work on it or make changes. The pages are listed on my .Mac account. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if you backed up your iWeb "Domain" file to your external drive? iWeb saves all the information about your sites in a single file called "Domain". This file would have been located on your old hard drive in the Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder pathway. This is the only thing that constitutes a backup of your iWeb work. Without the "Domain" file, then there is no way to get your existing online site back into iWeb for further editing or publishing.
Your only options would be to recreate your site or to somehow link any new site you create in iWeb to the existing site that is online.

  • IWeb is Gone...

I recently downloaded Filezilla in order to upload my website that I created on iWeb using ftp format on iPage.... Unfortunately, now iWeb won't open on my Mac. What happened????? I tried reinstalling it but no luck. Any tips?

There have been numerous posts about Filezilla causing problems.
    Try the following:
    close iWeb.
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If these get your iWeb working again with your domain file I suggest you trash Filezilla and use the free FTP client  Cyberduck.  it has a solid reputation here for stability and ease of use.
