IWEB '08 Problems

Ever since I downloaded iWeb 08 I've experienced all kinds of glitches. All the links on all my pages reset to go to the HOME page. I spent hours resetting them all. Now I'm working on the photos themselves and can't get the shadows to stay any more. All the files on my iWeb are correct in appearance, but they show up differently on a web page. Why?
What's going on and how do I correct this? Kathy

I'm having the same issue with the links disappearing. It's ANNOYING and really stupid. Apple needs to fix this ASAP!!

  • Iweb/itunes problem - host parameter is null

i use iweb to publish and host our website. everything works fine, except... i have never been able to successfully publish a podcast to itunes through iweb. the error message in itunes is that the host parameter is null. i'm really scratching my head on this, because why would iweb offer an application that does not sync up with itunes automatically? please help!

The feed appears to be OK: it references a media file:
    http://www.undergroundfellowship.info/undergroundfellowship/Media/uftv.intro.m4v
However making this URL into a link in an html page and then downloading from the the link produces not the m4v file but an html file called uftv.intro.m4v.html which references the media file:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"

    </frameset>
    <!-- pageok -->

I don't know how this is happening, or how this page is being generated, but it's what is causing the problem.

  • Iweb formating problem with photo album

    Hi,
Im quite new to iweb but was developing a simple website to advertise a friends photography business.
I've made three pages, one of which is photo gallery using iweb's photo album page structure which seems to work fine apart from one problem.
I adapted one of the themes to have a simple gradient colour fill for the page background and a single colour for the browser background. The problem occurs when i want to view a larger image of the one of the photos - the colour gradient does not extent upwards into the header area and down into the footer area.
Please see http://www.swanmoreweddingcars.com/test/MartinKingPhotography.co.uk/Gallery/Page s/Album_Two.html and click on a photo to enlarge. This problem does not appear when in iweb, only after I've published it to a folder.
If any one has any suggestions about what is going wrong please let me know, as i think i've tried everything.
    Many thanks

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I've tried playing around with all of those settings but with no luck. It appears exactly how i want it to look in iWeb but as soon as i publish it to a folder to upload it to my web server the problem arises.

  • IWeb link problems

Hello and thank you to anyone who is taking the time to read this and attempts to help me correct my problem.
Recently, my dad enlisted me to assist him in creating a website for his company. With iWeb, I was able to make a decent rough draft and then began expanding on it. In the original draft (I had about five different pages, and used the navigation link that iweb uses to travel from page to page) everything worked fine. However, when I began expanding upon the site and adding my own links (pictures that you could click upon to travel to other pages and larger images) some of them work, while others don't. I have tried replacing the pictures and redoing the links, but only one thing has somewhat worked.
I put the setting so the layout would be shown, and then some gray lines appeared (don't know what else to call them) and it seemed if I placed my pictures inside these lines, then the links would suddenly work.
However, in some cases the pictures are in these lines and yet some still do not work. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
The link to the website is
    www.rcqc.com
An example of the "line" phenomena is on the Custom Carpentry page, found by clicking these links: "Photo Gallery" then "Custom Carpentry"
On this page, the top picture do not seem to work, yet the bottom four do--the bottom six are within the "gray lines."

your first three image is inside nav_layer, you need to move them out of nav_layer.
simple thing to do is to start the page over, leave nav bar enabled and enable view layout; these let you see where everything is.

  • IWeb basic problems? Issue with galleries

    Hi,
A while ago I posted a question about a photo gallery I was trying to display, which went something like:
    "Hello,
Just finished putting together a website for my brother but having issues with the gallery. I have a portfolio page for his photos. When I'm in iweb the photo album covers scroll nicely between images and link straight to the photo gallery page. But when I put it online I click and nothing happens, as you can see here:
    http://www.guycollier.com/guycollier/EdmundCollier_Theatre_Photography_My_Portfolio/Edmund_Collier_Theatre_Photography_MyPortfolio.html
Does anyone know why? This is driving me crazy. I have deleated and uploaded the sight several times from iWeb and also Filezilla and Cyberduck but have the same issues. Please help!
ps. also if anyone knows how to set the title of the page in the browser then that would be great too!"
I have finally got the time to get back to it and have been trying various options suggested by users, including deleating and rebuilding the gallery, but it still doesn't work either online or on a local hosting. It was suggested that I might have some basic iWeb problems. Any idea what these maybe and how they might be resolved?
    Thanks
    Guy

Thanks for the suggestion. I rebuilt it and without making any changes to the layout it seemed to work ok. However, when I have made some minor changes (putting a frame around the images, changing the layout slightly, removing the navigation menus) it no longer works. Any idea? Might I be deleting something by accident?

  • Multipul iweb sites   problem with own domain name

    hello all
i have currently 2 iweb sites (my own personal one with my own personal domain) and another site which has a podcast for my self and flat mates
    the problem comes in this.
if i want to subscribe the podcast to itunes it trys to send it as www.garethmob.co.uk/flat6_band ect where the actuall band website does not sit on my own personal website
is there any way i can fix this by having the origional web.me.com/garethmob ect for one of the websites and the garethmob.co.uk for the other?
both are on my mobile me account
thanks for any help in advance
    Gareth

If you have more than on site on your iDisk and go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites, you will see that you have two website folders but only one index.html file.
If the domain name www.garethmob.co.uk (Site 1) is directed at that index.html file then that's the one that must exist in the Web/Sites folder.
When you upload another site (Site 2), its index.html file overwrites the existing one and the URL is then directed to the wrong site.
When you upload changes to the site with the MobileMe URL (Site 2), you must then upload a copy of the index.html file for the other site (Site 1) after doing this.
You can do this by publishing your Site 1 to a local folder and then put the index.html file inside a folder and trash the rest.
After you have uploaded changes to Site 2, go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and upload a copy of the index.html file for Site 1 by drag and drop.

  • IMovie to iWeb viewing problems

Thanks to earlier posts I have now been able to upload a movie onto my MobileMe website, I’ve done this by opening it in iMovie and going to Share, Media Brower, Mobile and Publish, then doing the approprite thing in the iWeb Inspector. I have not added a download option.
I can now open this myself, although both it and music files initially take some time to download. However, my fan club have had mixed experiences.
Most Mac users have no trouble, but one with an iMac (not sure which OS) gets sound but no vision.
Some PC users are OK, especially if they have QuickTime, but others have merely reported that they cannot get the video to play. Some of these can play audio tracks.
Two PC users have had serious problems. One said that his computer started to download; this was taking a long time and he had no way of stopping it. Also, the music tracks had no play bar.
I have been told about Vimeo and I may try that if all else fails. And I appreciate that some PC users are dinsoaurs, as one reply put it!
Any help and advice would be appreciated.

The problem is that iOS devices like the iPhone don't support it.
Using YouTube or Vimeo overcomes this problem. I prefer Vimeo and you can upgrade to a Pro account to get rid of the logo , advertising etc....

  • IWeb, mobileme, problems

I tried to upload some photos to my iWeb site last night and a message comes up and says to sign in to Mobileme, however, when I try that another message says Mobileme has been disabled.  I have moved to iCloud, but I am not sure how to apply that to my iWeb account.
    suggestions?

Now that MobileMe has shut down you will need to find a 3rd party web host to upload your website to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • IWeb/iPhoto problems

I must have something set wrong...
First of all when I open iPhoto all I see is the events. The items like Last Roll, Last 12 months ect. are not along the left side of the window.
But here is there main problem. When I publish to iWeb it publishes fine. When it is finished "Pending" is gone from all of the photos, but I cannot get back to all of my events. It just stays on the published page. At the top where the All Event button should be it has the subscription link.
The only way I have been able to get back to all of my events is to rebuild the library with iPhoto Library Manager.

Thanks for the help... It was a little more involved than that, but those were the initial steps.
When I deleted the pref file and restarted iPhoto it would create a new default library that had nothing in it. I ended up making a copy of the rebuilt library just in case and renaming the rebuilt on to iPhoto Library. Now I see all the items on the side.
I still don't know if I will have problems after publishing to iWeb. I guess I will see the next time I do it.

  • IWeb Leopard problems

does anyone know how to fix this?
I installed Leopard today then opened up my iWeb and a very old website appreared dont know where that came from. It is not the one i publish to .mac site nor was it the site i was working on just before i updated to Leopard. I have however saved my website folder to a file but cannot work out how to import it to iWeb
    Any ideas?

Alright, so I've published my site to a folder - in my Media folder, which contains my mo3 podcasts and quicktime movie files, there are -'s in between words when the original files contain none. This isn't a Filezilla or any other 3rd FTP program problem, it seems to be coming from iWeb.
Funny thing is, it's not affecting every one of the podcast or QT movies pages. When I click on a podcast the link that is provided has added the ( " ) code %22 in place of ( " ) from the title of the podcast. I use quotes on other pages the exact same way and when you clock on that page, it works fine. I feel like I may just have to rebuild the pages again, and that - I'm not looking forward too. It feels like an iWeb bugout to me.

  • IWeb headings problems

Whenever someone opens my website (iWeb) they see the page headings at the top of each page. However, the first time anyone logs onto the website the headings on the Cover page do not function properly.
When the mouse cursor is dragged across the headings they shimmer, shake, and some are unusable. However, if someone tries to do this after accessing another page, the problem no longer happens. It happens ONLY on the Cover page.
How can this be remedied? I am paying for this service and people visiting my website are discouraged from exploring when they cannot use their mouse as needed to click on the page headings.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you
    Mark

Are you referring to the navigation menu and, if so, what template are you using and what is your URL?

  • IWeb/.Mac problems with Updating

I have two new problems that just began.
#1 I can't publish/update my work in iWeb anymore. I get a "Publish Error" that stops me from updating anything. It doesn't matter if it's a blog, podcast, or comma on the homepage... nothing will upload anymore.
#2 Other users can't visit my site anymore because a password protection has suddenly appeared. I don't have a password set to my site and have never done that, so I don't know how it was put onto my three sites. I've checked the password section of the Inspector as well as the .Mac system preference. There is no password set.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I updated this morning and have been unable to publish at all. I did a "publish all" and which it did fine and then the background publishing notice came up and it appeared to have worked fine up until the end. Completely unsuccessful. During the course of trying this three times, I came up with at least three different error messages, ranging from the a "network error, check your Internet connection," which is working fine, to unable to publish. I repaired permissions and even deleted the plist (preferences). I hope Apple can remedy this.Very disappointing.

  • A New iWeb 08 Problem

Alright, so here we are in iWeb '08.
Things happened, things have been fixed... but one problem remains:
On the top of the page it lists: Blog Summary Widget Blog Summary Widget
    on the bottom...
    # Exception: ReferenceError
    # Message : Can't find variable: BlogSummaryShared
    # File : BlogSummary.js, Line:55
    # Exception: TypeError
    # Message : Undefined value
    # File : BlogSummary.js, Line:200
    # Exception: ReferenceError
    # Message : Can't find variable: BlogSummaryShared
    # File : BlogSummary.js, Line:55
    # Exception: TypeError
    # Message : Undefined value
    # File : BlogSummary.js, Line:200
I can't for the life of me figure out what this means, I've gone through the code and everything seems to be pointing in the right direction. Has anyone else seen this? The weird part is that everything is actually working fine (the summary is correct, the dates, the links).

    Hello elh72,
    elh72 wrote:
i.e. image shadowing, mirroring etc., but when I implement these features, things load slooooow.
iWeb features like shadow and reflection do not alter the object they are applied to (Don't make them bigger in file size).
It's a piece of code telling the browser to show these features.
    class tinyText reflection
    class tinyText shadow
This process is done on your computer after the browser received this instruction.
Not all browsers are equal in performance.
Or sometimes it even can be that one or more background processes on the computer start draining resources just when you wanted to see that web page. (ex sync or backup over internet)
When we talk about loading an iWeb web page there are 3 things to keep in mind:
    - internet download speed : how big in size are all objects in the page ?
    - how well does the browser read and understand the code ?
    - how many additional supporting applications have to run in the background to handle specific content ?
As Roddy pointed out : a clean welcome page with one or more small (file size) graphics will benefit most from optimisation.
But : The more content (the bigger file size) to download, the less you'll benefit from code optimisation.
    So, test and adapt.
And keep in mind that unless you know what computer / internet speed / browser all your visitors use ... you'll have to make a guess. If don't like guessing, try Google Analytics (it's free) to find out all about your visitor capabilities.
IE still has a big world wide share but maybe 80% of your visitors don't use it...
    Kind regards,
    Leo

  • IWeb Saving problems

I really hope that this makes sense. Using iWeb '06.
Two problems here: I moved my iWeb files around to consolidate and discard duplicate files between my Mac's HD, duplicate files on the desktop and an external drive. I just did an update to my site and to my horror, it "couldn't save media files" - and showed a long list of files. I went and found them from the new location on my HD and re-dropped the movie and picture files in. Then, when I tried to save, it listed three new but non-specific files ("movie" "dropped pict image"). I checked the pages and all pictures are visible. Then when I tried to save again, almost the entire previous list of "Missing" files (most of which were visible anyway) came up again as being unable to be saved.
Then, when saving, it didn't know where iWeb was...
"The location of the document iWeb cannot be determined. You can specify where to save it."
So it called itself "Domain" and it saved itself to the Desktop. Then it told me that it would be replaced...fine. The thing is, it has never done this before. I looked in the Library folder/Application support/iWeb, and there is a Domain file in there too, and it opens the same iWeb as the one on the desktop.
I have no idea why this is happening. Something has gone screwy - obviously it did not like having its files moved around, but I have replaced those files from the same ones in the new location.
I have not tried to publish my site (assuming that I even can) as it's after 3 AM and i have been trying to fix this for hours. My website looks fine - I shudder to think of how it will look after publishing, but I want to make sure that everything is where it should be before publishing.
Thanks for any advice. I thought I'd check here before calling Apple as they keep telling me to check the website anyway!

The sites extension doesn't always show, if you hilight the domain file and go to finder get info then it should say what the extension is. The domain file is where iweb saves all the files so as long as you have that you should be OK. It isn't a good idea to move or re-move files unless you know what they do.

  • Iweb newsletter problem

    Hai Apple
I have a problem with iweb in publishing HTML news letter
the problem is i can publish and view in mac mail, but in outlook windows the image not shown and my css was error
    please help.thank u

I guess you are using the method shown at the bottom of this page...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Email-Marketing/EBlast.html
    Note the warning.
You really need to use a tried and tested template for this type of thing or an application like SerialMailer or MailShoot.
The alternative is to send out a text email and link to a webpage...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWebMusicWebsite/Monthly-News.html
... or use one of these methods to show the news letter in an iFrame so that you only have to update the frame content and not the whole page...

  • Possible solution to some iWeb 09 problems

Like others here, I've had a very frustrating time with iWeb 09 since installing it. I was unable to publish my old site and got errors. What has worked for me after trying other things was creating a new site in 09, then duplicating each page of the old site and then dragging the DUPLICATE page copies into the new site. Also, try to have a backup copy of your site if possible. I totally lost my old site at one point, but I luckily had a backup copy using MultiSite. Hope this helps

I'll echo that I had some luck with this approach as well. I say some b/c some of the movie pages were inconsistent.
What I found that worked best for me was to delete every reference to the old site off idisk and then re-publish my existing domain (i.e not the new experiment site I had created). This published once with no problem. Then, I goofed up and renamed it as I was checking iweb out and then, ugh, the thing wanted to re-publish. Since then, I have literally had 3 trials x 4 hours each trying to upload and then I get an error message at the very end of the 4 hours. But deleting the old info off idisk was the only thing to help me get it published at X + 48 hours.
