IWeb '08 Site - Published to MobileMe Account - Not Viewable by Others

I'm new to iWeb. I created a simple site with a few pages, and then "Published All" to MobileMe. When I view the site, it looks fine. When others try, they get the "Are you looking for something on MobileMe?" page. I have looked at the "site inspector" to be sure that the site is not "private".
I've been reading and reading and can't find a solution. Is there a trick to this?

I got to your site using both of those addresses.
People are probably missing a dash or missing the correct capitalizations. If any of those capitalized letters are typed in lowercase you get that "looking for something" page.
If you want people to be able to type in a simple web address to get to your site, you probably need to acquire a simpler domain name ( from Go Daddy for instance) and then point it to your mobile me account.
I have two domain names registered: www.phelpssculpture.com & www.phelpsculpture.com ( one has two s's and one has only one) these are registered with Go Daddy and point to my mobileme website:
http://web.me.com/phelpssculpture/Site/home.html
So on a business card I can put the simpler PhelpsSculpture.com and people reach my site by typing that into there web browser. The capitalization doesn't seem to matter on the GoDaddy shortened address, but it does seem to matter if you miss capitalize the mobileme address.
Hope this helps,
David

  • Google Analytics for iweb 09 site published to MobileMe

At one point I was able to add Google Analytics to my iweb site that's on Mobile Me. That lasted 2 days, till I republished it. I redid it twice, I thought the same way. The last time was yesterday after changing to new iweb 09 software. I published site to local disk (idisk), then went to Automator and added the Google Analytics code (UA-xxxxxxx-x) again and unchecked "Old Style Analytics Code". I saved as a new "Google Analytics plugin". Then I selected website folder on idisk through Finder. Then control-clicked (to run Google Analytics workflow) and chose the "Google Analytics plugin" from menu. After this, I went back to my site in iweb and clicked on "Publish". I assumed that it published the site in idisk, where I had added Google Analytics. But it's been over 24 hours and no results in Google Analytics.
Through Safari, I went to home page of site, then clicked View, then page source and I don't see the Google Analytics code (UA-xxxxxxx-x) shown so it didn't seem to work. I just don't know where I made a mistake. I don't think its because I changed to iweb 09 because I re-did it the same way in iweb 08 (but did not uncheck the "Old Style Analytics Code") and it didn't work then either. Can't figure out how I got it to work for two days when I first tried it.
    Please help. Anyone?

It is now easier than ever. You don't need an outside application, or an automator action at all. I used to use Transmit to upload my site, since I first had to export it to a folder, then run the automator action. I again spent some time looking for how to do it for iWeb 09 and found the easiest (and therefore overlooked) way:
    1. in iWeb, create an HTML snippet
    2. Copy the Google Analytics code and paste into the snippet.
    3. Make the box as small as it can go (although this does not really matter since nothing will display on your site)
    4. Copy this snippet and go on each page on your site and paste it.
    5. Publish your site.
    6. It will take a little bit of time for it to show up on the Google Analyics page, so set it up, then walk aawy for a little bit.
This worked for me right away, and I no longer have to export to a folder and use an action of any kind.

  • Publish separate sites to one MobileMe account?

I manage several sites from my laptop, which runs iWeb '08. I have just started using iWeb '09 on my desktop at work, and absolutely love it - not to mention that my work computer doesn't freeze up whenever I try to work on complicated sites. I would like to publish the sites I'm working on at work to my MobileMe account, which my other iWeb '08 sites are published on. If the sites have different names, will that be a problem? Or if I publish will it only put up the sites from my work computer and delete everything else? This is terribly confusing. I would like to keep everything up until replacement sites are made, and this would solve my problem so immensely! Any input you have would be huge!

Perhaps I was not clear in my first post...
I have one MobileMe (.mac) account, which I currently have five sites hosted on. These sites were built in iWeb '08. I have had no problems with hosting multiple sites on MobileMe, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say that this is not possible.
I have built a sixth site in iWeb '09 on a different computer than my other five sites are built/stored on. I would like to publish this site to my MobileMe account as well - just add it to the roster, if you like. It has a different name than my other sites, so presumably if I sign into my MobileMe account on that computer, it would publish the site alongside the others, correct? I just don't want to publish this new site and for some reason have it delete the other five sites already being hosted.

  • IWeb 09 Multiple sites with multiple MobileMe accounts

Hi guys, one more for you,
i have my MobileMe account and my website, i also create to more small sites just for testing purpose, i want to know if i can have multiple websites on iWeb and each one with their own MobileMe account.
    (e.g)
    -- site1 ( [email protected])
    -- site2 ( [email protected])
    -- site3 ( [email protected])
i have only One Mac computer and i have to work on 3 different sites with only this computer.
Help please... I am new to Mac world ( but i love it )

Do you really have 3 separate users or just want to publish 3 separate sites? If it's the latter then you can do all of them with just one MMe account. In your domain file with three sites the top size will be the "alpha" site in that if you enter the minimum URL, http://web.me.com/YourMMe_AccountName/, the top site will come up. To go to the other two sites you'll need to add the site name on the end of the URL above, i.e. http://web.me.com/YourMMe_Account_Name/Site_1name/.
In this economy if you can do what you want with one account that's saving some $$$$.

  • How to transfer an iWeb site from one MobileMe account to another.

I am creating an iWeb site for a friend. I am doing this using my mac and my MobileMe account. I understand that the iWeb site assets are all stored in my MobileMe iDisk. I want to take the finished site and transfer it to my friends computer and his MobileMe iDisk so he can manage it from there. How do I do this.

If you have your friends MobileMe login details, then you can publish the site to his MMe account directly from your Mac. Go to System Preferences and log out of your MMe account and then into his and then go back to iWeb and then publish the site directly to his MMe account.
As far as giving him the ability to manage the sites, just give him the relevant domain file for the site. Go to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and find the domain file and then you can e-mail it to his Mac and he can then put the domain file in the same place on his Mac.
Whatever you do, don't publish the site to your desktop - you won't be able to do anything with it. It is the domain file that you need if your friend wants to manage and alter the site in any way.

  • Transferring iweb site from 1 mobileme account to another

i need to transfer my iweb site from one mobile me account to another, but i dont want to buy it in HOPES that i can do it. I want to make sure i actually can.
    anybody have experience in this?

Everything you made in iWeb is stored in a file on your hard disk.
You can find this file in it's default location.
../Yourusername/Library/Application Support/iWeb, the name of the file is Domain.sites2
You can freely copy/move this file to an other computer or an other user on the same computer with the other MobileMe account.
If you want to keep everything "as is" on your computer in iWeb and only want to change the MobileMe account: open System Preferences / tab MobileMe / 'log out' and 'log in' with the other account.
    Kind regards,

  • Publish to MobileMe did not

I selected the images, defined the layout and format of the web page and selected the Publish to MobileMe button.
Aperture went through the motions of creating the images and web pages and then stopped - no upload to the iDisk carried out.
So I did the Export Web page process and copied the created web pages and Images to iDisk - Sites folder using Finder.
There might actually be a benefit in doing this process this way as I now have the Web structure to copy to CD etc for non web based distribution.

MMe doesn't exist.  You can still publish a blog created with iWeb to an FTP server BUT you can't have visitors add comments to the blog.  That feature was tied to the MMe servers and is no longer available.
A comment feature can be added to an iWeb site by using a 3rd party commenting service like Disqus: Disqus Comment in a Scrolling iFrame. The link takes you to an example of adding Disqus to a website.
With iWeb 2 you'll have to publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and upload the site folder and its external index.html file to the server with a 3rd party FTP client like Transmit, xCyberduck or YummyLite.
Be aware that iWeb 2 is not compatibnle with Mt. Lion so if you intend to upgrate to Mt. Lion sometime in the future you'll need to upgrade to iWeb 3 thru the purchase of an iLife 09 or 11 disk from a 3rd party vendor like Amazon.com or eBay. com.

  • How come you can't add comments to blog that you create in IWeb unless you have a mobileme account when you can no longer get an account.

I have a site that i'm working on for class and i need to be able to have people comment on my blogs and stiff and they can't because im using FTP because I don't have a mobileme account.  WIll this be changing soon that you can all comments to your site using IWeb.

You need to use a commenting system like Disqus or Intense Debate...

the new appletv is not supposed to show up in itunes, as it connects via HomeSharing.

  • Can use iweb and publish sites without a mobileme account?

I have a old imac and it died and I lost all of my websites and Im afraid that I cant republish the websites without a mobile me account… anyone know what I can do ?

When you 'lost your websites' do you mean you lost the 'Domain' file in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder? iWeb keeps all its information there and if you do not have it you will have to recreate your site from scratch. If this is the case I would most strongly advise not using iWeb - it's not been sold or supported for some time now, and indeed v2 ('08) does not work with Mavericks: v3 may stop working on a future update. There are many other programs for making websites - Everweb is popular and is designed to be very like iWeb, with more facilities.
If you do have the Domain file then you can publish to any website hosting service as outlined by Old Toad. There is a more detailed description of the process for the two different versions here:
    http://wilmut.uk/missing2
However if you are going to use iWeb remember that as I said a future system upgrade may very well break it; and you would find it very difficult to update the site by editing the published pages in the absence of being able to use iWeb and the Domain file.

  • How can I publish separate sites to individual MobileMe accounts?

Running iWeb 08 which my husband and I have used to create our own websites. I have my own Mobile Me account and he has his own Mobile Me account. At the moment when either of us update our website we can only publish them both so on my Mobile Me account I have the links and info for his website and vice versa on his Mobile Me account.
Is there a way that I can we can publish only our own websites to our own Mobile Me accounts?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The easiest way I can see is to each of you have your own account on the Mac. That way each can publish to their own MMe account. Copy the domain.sites2 file to each account. Open the file and delete the site that is not for that particular MMe account. Do the same in each Mac account.

  • IWeb won't publish to Mobileme

I am running the latest iWeb 2.0.4 and iWeb will not publish, I get a message that it will not connect every time. My internet is fine, any idea what I can do to get this working.

Although the fix in the thread I'm linking you to is for an email issue it did help one user with a publishing problem. See my post in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7803559#7803559

  • IWeb - Single Site Publishing

I have 4 websites saved in iWeb, I think I'm running iWeb 08.
When I want to publish a site to a local folder it always re-publishes all the sites instead of just the 1 I'm working on.
Is there a way of backing up a site and then re-opening it in iWeb at a later stage or is there simply a way of just publishing 1 of the sites at 1 time??
    Any help, thaks?

Another option on managing the multiple sites as individual domain files is to use iWebSites. I use iWebSites to manage over 75 individual sites. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • HTML Signature that is not viewable by other recipients

I have a signature that I use for my company. It is a png file that is about 7k. Some recipients see the signature logo at the bottom of the emails and some do not. What do I need to do so that all email recipients see the logo?

    You sure can!
    Here's a tutorial I used to do this: http://allforces.com/2006/04/14/css-signatures/
Basically, you create an HTML signature using CSS. The trick is to put the image online, and point to it in you HTML file. For example, the picture I use in my signature is actually stored on my googlepages site. I found the URL of the file, then used that in my HTML file. When others open the email, the image displayed is from googlepages, not anything that was attached to the email. The downside is that if someone uses a program like Mail, if they look at the email when they are offline, the image won't display.
The tutorial shows you how to replace a signature file created by Mail with one of your creation - a bit convoluted, but it worked.
Lastly, I haven't asked others what they see from their various email providers. Gmail will pull it up with no pictures and give users the option to either display pictures or not. Outlook shows it fine... not sure about anything other than that.
Let me know if you want an example file you could work with if you are unfamiliar with HTML and CSS. I was clueless but found my way using the site above and the various HTML/CSS tutorials available online.
    Thanks for reading my novel.

  • Acrobat Video Not Viewable By Others

I have downloaded the Acrobat 9 Pro demo to test out the
video options. When I embed a flash video as a url and then attach
the acrobat document to an email, I can view the video after
clicking on it but others in my office cannot. I have put the flv
on an intranet webserver and then an internet webserver. The two
other users see the video control with the button but it cannot be
clicked to start. The flv is only 900kb. The other users have
Acrobat 7. Is this a limitation of the demo version or do they need
    Acrobat version 8 and above?
Btw - the other users can see the same flv when it is
embedded as a file but the email becomes too big and the video
still didn't play - they could just see the poster image and hear
    the audio.
