IWeb 09 and my website?

I recently installed Leopard and ilife 09, which included iWeb 09.
I have always backed up my site when making any changes to it using iWeb expander. The back ups are saved to my external HD. I just opened iWeb to make new changes and an older saved version of my site is present, from 1 year ago. My actual published site is still current without issues. I went back to look at some of the other versions of my back ups and they are all the same! Before updating to Leopard I backed up everything and have looked at that version of my site and it too is the older version???? *** ????

Ok, so I have fixed everything. Moved the good back up version to Mac HD/user/user name/lib/app support/iweb/domain.site2.
Seems to be working! After I opened iWeb, I saved it and the file noted above updated. I then moved all other backed up versions to the trash, still works. Not sure how this all happened?
Now I need to learn how to back up the site without iWeb expander !

  • HT4686 How can I publish my website developed using iWeb and have all functions of the blog page work as it did with MobileMe?

I have developed a website using iWeb and it includes a blog page selected from stock pages in iWeb.  I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching).  Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

You need the 'Domain' file in which iWeb keeps its data. This lives by default in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb. You need to locate it on the old machine and copy it to the same position in the new machine. Note that it is the Library folder in your Home folder, not the one at root level.
This folder is hidden on Lion and above; to access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice. In Mavericks you can make it permanently visible - open your Home Folder the from the Finder's View menu, choose show View Options and check Show User Library.

There is no license required for iWeb.  Just do a Wyodor suggested and you'll be ready to go. If you're running Lion however, consider the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

The other thing they don't tell you is that Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac, and I am considering uninstalling it for that reason - do I get my money back?!

You stated; "Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac"
    That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

My website created with Iweb and hosted on mobileMe is not uploading well on all computers. What could be the problem ?

I got a chance to look at it on a PC.  Totally hosed up. It loads incorrectly then parts of it go blank.
I have a site that is based very much on one of the built-in templates and it works fine on the same PC.  It contains only text boxes, image placeholders, and images with "picture frame" borders.  Nothing fancy, no overlays, no extra code or anything. I haven't looked much at the other templates so I don't know if yours is mostly a template or how much you may have modified one or what tricks you may have done to get the look you wanted.  Whatever it is, IE does not like it.  Unfortunately, you can't really ignore them as was suggested; they make up a large part of your audience.

Hi, can you tell me how to create website on iweb and make it public, and tell me how to put a password on it, thanks.

    Find a webhosting company :

They will provide the instructions how to password protect a directory (=folder)?
Until you find one, you can practice on your own computer :

i made a free website using iweb and my host is dropbox but it is not showing in every search engine,i have to use a proxy for my site to pop up

Possibly because dropbox is not really a proper webhost - it might be better if you went and signed up for proper web hosting from somewhere like http://www.godaddy.com or http://www.hostexcellence.com.
Have you told Google that you site exists?  If not, then you need to do so - http://www.google.com/addurl.

  • IPhone and my website made with iWeb

    Sorry for the long title.
I am a full time presbyterian pastor who also has a home-based business on the side. Anyway this is a question for those who use iWeb and for those who may have an iPhone. I have made a website using iWeb (06) for this business (I am not trying to promote it here but just want my question) and when I check the main page via FF for Mac and/or the older version of IE for Mac it looks OK.
However, after dong a few changes when I look at the site with my iPhone the banners that I have on that page run up over my texts. I know that the iPhone is compressing the images, etc but I don't know how to fix the website so it looks normal (even though I may not be myself)whether one is using a computer or the iPhone. Anyway my url is www.pure-es.com Ifor anyone willing to check it out (via iPhone if possible as well as with your computer). Sorry if this is the wrong forum, to put this in.

I found out that all I had to do was move my text and re-do the of my table, etc. It not looks OK again in the iPhone and browsers for the computer.

  • IWeb says I'm not logged into iWeb and can't upload my website

Has anyone else had this problem? I recently reinstalled iWeb, and it says I'm logged out of MobileMe. When I click to login, my computer says I'm logged in to MobileMe, but iWeb still says I'm not. Any suggestions?

*(i do not have mobile me under the apple menu-maybe cuz of 10.4.11 so I went to sys pref>.mac>account and removed my password and user name and replaced it with a bogus one)*
Correct. MobileMe was still .Mac when 10.4 was released.
_Go to the Finder and go to Go > Utilities > Keychain Access
*(same here do not have keychain access under finder but found it under application>utilities>keychain access--- )*
Correct. It won't be under Finder. Rather when you are in the Finder (says Finder next to the Apple) you will see a "Go" menu. This has Utilities as a choice within it.
__Delete the MobileMe keychain (it has a little blue / white cloud next to it) and close the window
*( there were no mobile me or .mac keychain whatsoever-- hence nothing to delete)*
This is unusual. Sign in to the .Mac Pref Pane with your correct .Mac name / password. Then open Keychain access. You should have a entry here with the little blue .Mac globe. Delete it.
Then return to the .Mac Pref Pane and sign out.
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer:
    Your User > Library > Caches > com.apple.iWeb
In your case remove the entire "Caches" folder from this location. It will be re-generated upon restart.
Your User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWeb (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
    Now remove the plist.
Once the computer is restarted Go to Apple Menu > MobileMe and sign back in to your account.
    Now do this.
If the same issue happens in iWeb at this point try the following:
_Go to your iWeb domain in Your User > Library > Application Support > iWeb.
_Duplicate your Domain by clicking on it and going to File > Duplicate.
_Right click / ctrl + click on the domain file (not the Domain Copy) and choose "Show Package Contents"
_Remove the file inside called something like "com.apple.Your .Mac Username.plist"
_Close the window and attempt to publish again.

  • IWeb and multiple users

So i'm trying to see how i can set up a website in iweb and edit that website from multiple computers and it stay up-to-date. is there a way to do this?

thanks, that does help a bit, i think i can figure that out. my next question is what happens to my existing iweb sites if i try to open a different DOMAIN file from a different source?
ie: i have like over 20 iWeb sites in my iWeb 2.0 that are in a DOMAIN file stored in the default location. if i go to open (by double clicking) a DOMAIN file from an iDisk for instance to edit it and it opens iWeb, what will happen with my other sites? and will this set that iDisk DOMAIN file location as my default?

  • Problems with iWeb and mobile me

    Ciao everyone,
I've been having a ridiculous amount of problems with my mobile me account and my iweb. 2 weeks ago I was fine with my iweb and mobile me but all of a sudden my iweb would say it publish but it really doesn't publish. The I went to the mac store a couple of times and thought I would get answers but I didnt get any answer even though I had a couple of one to one visits with a couple of stores in NYC. So when i publish it it shows that it published in my www.me.com/idisk/iweb folder but then it doesn't show in my website. Then one guy told me that I should just recreate a new site but copy and past all the old information to the new one. Now it won't publish at all because I guess its a lot of information to publish at once. I get an error message saying error iweb was not able to publish please try again later. Any help?

    Hey you guys,
Thanks for the help, but I did try to publish all to my iweb and it didn't work. I do try to view my published website through the file/visit published site and for some reason only my intro page is there then when i go into the main page i get an error page. I also did go to my finder/Go/idisk/myidisk/iweb/site/iweb and saw my websites folder. Everything seems to be in it. I tried to take a screen shot of what is in my folder but I can't post pictures. In my folder I have a folder for gallery, index.html, site, shites.rss, and my website folder usvisualswebsite
Any other suggestions? This is really frustrating. I also created another test site with nothing in it and published it and it says it finishes publishing but the blank test page isn't there.
