IWeb '09 "Hit Counter"  Widget

Is the "hit counter" widget supposed to log a "hit" every time someone views/visits an/each individual page of a website, or only once per visit to the site? It appears that every page visited of the site registers a "hit." Is this usual and customary?

Normally I thought a hit counter just measured the amount of visitors to your site as a whole, not just individual pages.

My counting widget has disappeared from the widget list in iWeb. I deleted it from my page. How do I get it back?

Try using the Insert->Button->Hit Counter menu option. If that fails then you might have to reinstall iWeb from the disk it came on. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Reinstall iWeb and apply the latest updaters.

  • Iweb page hit counter

If you are a .mac user you can click on Mac in the top menu bar. It lists Account, Mail, Address Book, My Pages, etc. Under My Pages, it lists hits for my . mac homepage pages and now I notice it will show hits for 5 of my iweb pages, but how can I choose which pages it it will show the hits to? My home page is the only page which has a counter and it is not one of those listed.

Thanks. That was such a simple answer I feel quite silly. I wish I could assign certain pages instead. Oh well. Thanks again.

  • Views Counts on iWeb Hit Counter

Is there any way to view the number of counts for a page using the iWeb-provided hit counter without going to the actual published page and thereby 'hitting' the site? My .mac account site provides a hit count for my iWeb pages but only for the top 5 pages. How can I see the count for all pages? Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions, Tatnall.
No, there isn't currently a way to see the count of any page (without visiting it)outside your top 5 using the .Mac counters.
Many users who need more information have taken to applying other counters to their pages like StatCounter.

  • My hit counter wont republish when I update it in iWeb

my hit counter wont publish when I update my site in iWeb

It's in the footer, correct?  Increase the footer's height with the Inspector/Page/Layout pane, make sure the counter it near the footer/contents interface and republish.  See if that will jump start it.

StatCounter can give you much, much more than just the number of hits.  This tutorial describes how to apply ti to your pages: #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet. You can start the count at any number you'd like and have it ignore your visits. In addition to StatCounter there are many more free counters available.  Just google "hit counter".

  • No Hit Counter with iWeb 08

I just got iWeb 08 and added a new article to my blog. After publishing, I find that all my Hit counters are gone from my iWeb pages (still present on my old "Public Folder" page though).
    What happened?

Judging from a few of the postings here, I'm afraid to ask: Have my Hit counters been reset to zero? That's what they show now. Now, let me confess that when I upgraded to the new iWeb, I redesigned some of the templates. In that process, I temporarily removed the Hit counters that were on the site previously (created with the previous version of iWeb)
Now I place the Hit Counters on the new pages -- all have been reset to Zero. That mean all my hit data is lost? I thought the hit data was somehow stored by the program in a data file, and that the "hit counter" was simply a graphic field that let you vew the Hits. -- david in KC

  • Hit Counter on iWeb 08

After I published my page with iWeb 08 the hit counter disappeared from my site. It is still there in iWeb just not in the published site.
Is there a way to get it to work again? If I delete it and put it back in is there a way to start it at a given number so I don't have to start at zero again?

You might want to see if it is just a problem with Safari caching. Sometimes Safari draws on the cache instead of updating the page correctly. You can fix this in several ways. This is probably the easiest:
    Open Safari
In the 'Safari' menu choose 'empty cache'
Go to your web site and see if the counter appears.

  • The iWeb hit counter on Tue, Oct 10, 2006     9:00 AM  PST

Is everyone else with the iWeb hit counter getting a white question mark in a blue box? My hit counter has been out ever since yesterday afternoon. For a brief time it reappeared and now it is gone again.
    Thank you.
    Lorna in Southern California

The counters are back now, but hits made during the outage don't seem to have counted (there were no cookies from my iWeb pages at that time). There is more on this on another thread.
By the way, Lorna, I didn't answer your last question to me some time ago - my Japanese is far from fluent, but I get by.

  • IWEB HIT COUNTER RESET

Does anyone know how to reset your hit counter?

Since you only publish the StatCounter code to your main page, all you have to do is to find the mainpage.html file (either on your iDisk or to your folder, depending on how you publish). Open this file with some sort of text editor like Microsoft Word....then scroll all the way to the bottom of all the html code. You will see the last two statements on the page </body></html>. Just put your cursor right before the </body></html> and paste your StatCounter code right there. That way you won't have to use iWeb Enhancer to do it for you, and maybe you avoid the conflict with the Apple counter that you are having. Just an idea...

  • Iweb hit counter stats

I know I can get a 3rd party hit counter, but I am curious if I can see how many hits my site has received without visiting the site itself? In the old, old .mac Homepage you could see how many hits yoru site received when you logged into your .mac account on Apple's website. Is there a place to do this with iweb? I don't need any fancy stats. Just curious about hits.

  • IWEb hit counter look alike

I just recently migrated from idisk to a FTP server and am looking for a new hit counter. I've grown accustomed to the look of the hit counter that iWeb provided. Can anyone lead me to a similar looking hit counter that iWeb uses?

Find a free counter that has numerals similar to those in the iWeb conter and add it to your webpage.  Then place a text box over it and add the frame that looks closest to the frame around the iWeb counter.  This demo page has a quick rough example of that concept except the numerals are from my counter: HelperSite2 Page-1

  • How do you track hits on hit counter in iWeb?

I have been creating a personal poetry website on iWeb and I am fairly new to Mac in general.  I found the Hit Counter button and added it to every page on my website.  My question is how do I see how many hits i have?  The hit counter does not show up on my published site.
    http://jennifercramer.site90.com/Jens_Site./Home.html

The hit counter only appears when you publish to MobileMe.
Search the iWeb Help for ftp to learn what else is not supported.
There are lots of alternative counters you can use.
