IWeb '09 / Mobileme Gallery Widget / No Albums or Movies / Snow Leopard

This is my first time trying to use the Mobileme Gallery Widget in iWeb '09 and all I can get it to do is tell me "No Albums or Movies". I have non password / no hidden galleries published via iPhoto '09 and iMovie '09. I even tried publishing via me.com. Nothing. It publishes my site to mobileme just fine I just upgraded to Snow Leopard this afternoon if that makes any difference. I had never tried this feature before today so I can't say if it worked prior to the upgrade or not. I do use a personal domain and iWeb does see this and can publish the site to it but all the site has is my test blank page and an blank mobileme widget in it. Any ideas?

Thanks. I'll try avoiding those features until there's an update to SL and/or iWeb'09. Happily iWeb09 with SL deals fine with my website in its current rather featureless configuration so I'll keep it simple for now

  • MobileMe Gallery Widgets - 3 Curious Questions

Have created and published an iWeb site which basically consists of one page, onto which I’ve positioned six MobileMe Gallery widgets. In the window for each of those widgets I’ve selected a particular MobileMe Gallery published from Aperture, each of which already has one particular image designated as its Key Photo.
So now what’s left -- and what I’ve searched extensively but still can’t figure out -- is:
    1) How do I turn OFF the automatic “slideshow preview” going on inside each of those six Gallery Widgets, and make it so they each display only the Key Photo for that Gallery (at least until the user mouses over a particular widget, activating the scrub/scan feature to manually preview all the images contained in that Gallery)?
    2) How do I set each widget window to “fit” all the preview thumbs inside its dimensions, rather than arbitrarily hacking off the tops and bottoms of all the vertically-oriented images, which for many shots just looks arbitrary, amateurish, and really ugly?
    3) What is the current status of that ridiculous bug which didn’t allow the Gallery Widget to display a Gallery which had been published using the “Hide album on my Gallery home page” option? I do ultimately need to have that option checked, but have left it unchecked for now just to make sure the iWeb site containing the widgets would actually publish.
So -- have the iWeb people and the MobileMe people FINALLY got this bug fixed, or do I still need to hold off activating that “Hide album...” option, and just let my professional Galleries be all mixed together with my personal ones? (Which again just looks arbitrary and amateurish, and encourages one to check out third-party solutions -- at least until such time as the different programming groups at Apple decide to actually talk to each other, and make programs which can interact in truly fluid, intuitive, and meaningful ways.)
My 2¢ -- on top of 3 questions. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

#1 - are you referring to the "skimming" of photos as you move the cursor over the gallery? That's javascript controlled I believe and would require knowledge of javascript and widgets. You might ask Cyclosaurer as he's the resident expert on javascript and widgets.
No, no, no -- I'm fine with the skimming, in fact I like that feature. I'm talking about the fact that EACH of the six different MobileMe Gallery widgets, from the moment I dragged each one onto the iWeb page I was creating and selected which already-published Gallery it should link to, began showing each of the different images contained in that Gallery/Album, changing to the next one every second or two. This happened completely on its own, I did not (at least not intentionally) select or activate anything, and it happens in ALL the widget windows, even though the mouse is not skimming over ANY of them.
It continues (again, in every widget window, and completely on its own) when I save the page, it continues when I publish the page, it continues when I visit the page online. The only thing which does stop it -- temporarily -- is when I do mouse over a particular widget window and manually skim. But the moment I stop skimming, this "automatic slideshow preview" (I don't know what else to call it) kicks back in.
Is this normal? Or is this some weird aberration peculiar to my system?
The added annoyance is that when you click on one of the widgets, instead of going to that Gallery in its full album view, it goes to a single frame view of whichever image happened to be being displayed at the time you clicked, requiring the user to then click on the "Back to Album" button in the upper left to get their bearings. Which again makes me wonder -- is this normal?
#2 - Again, you're referring to the skimming, right? Since it's a square shape the photos would have to be square to be able to be scaled exactly. Since it's only a "skim" of what's inside being perfectly scaled isn't that necessary.
It certainly wouldn't be as annoying if I could switch off this "automatic slideshow preview" behaviour as described above. (Though even for the skim function, I still think it would make sense to have the option to have the images auto scale to fit completely within the widget window -- which is not square, by the way -- or at least on my system appears to only be sizeable as a horizontal rectangle, to a maximum size of 320x260 pixels. This orientation works fine for previewing horizontally-oriented images, but looks butt-ugly when completely decapitating various groups of people in vertically-aligned shots, of which I happen to have many.)
In any case, if an auto-scale option to fit all image preview thumbs within the widget window (even for mere skimming) is something I need to add to my Feature Request list, that's fine. It's this bizarre, completely on its own "automatic slideshow preview" behaviour I'm still trying to understand.
#3 - it still exists. If you don't want it to be displayed in your overall MMe gallery with the rest of the individual galleries Apple isn't letting it be published alone.
Just to make sure we're talking about the same bug, in an ideal world I DON'T want these particular Gallery/Albums to be displayed as part of my overall MMe Gallery page, but I DO want them to be the designated content of the MMe Gallery WIDGETS which I'm including on the specific iWeb page in question. And if this bug still has not been fixed, then it appears I and many others are still S.O.L. for what should be a simple and obvious bit of formatting.
Send your 2¢ worth to apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html. We're just users like yourself and can't do anything about it.
Rest assured I will. What's one more page after the hundreds I've already sent them?
I'm just a bit stunned that this particular bug hasn't been dealt with already. And it only reinforces my firm belief (see the thread at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1996786&tstart=0)
that Apple desperately needs an Inter-App Czar, someone with the carte-blanche power to literally FORCE different programming teams to make all Apple apps not only play nicely together, but to play intelligently and intuitively and creatively together!

  • MobileMe Gallery Widget

I have uploaded photos and a movie into my mobileMe Gallery and can open them there.
In iweb I've selected the MobileMe Gallery widget but cannot see any photos or the movie in the widget menu to select and place into the page - any help please?

I think that's just the way it works — it's only meant to be a thumbnail. Besides, the miniature slideshow images in the thumbnail would probably appear very pixelated if enlarged too much. This _video tutorial_ also shows only a limited re-sizing capability.
If you want to actually embed an album into a page, see _this article_. Note: In their code, change the "mac.com" to "me.com". And click on the "comments" link in that article for more info.

  • MobileMe Gallery widget empty

I dragged the MobileMe Gallery widget onto a page and it has the popup asking you to choose which galley (I only have one published). However, it gives me no options: it says: "No albums or Movies."
    Any ideas?

That's right. In order to put a gallery into iWeb it must be open to the public. HOWEVER, you could embed a password protected gallery into an iWeb page like done in this demo page: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies.

  • MobileMe Gallery Widget Broke, MobileMe Support says to call Applecare

This one has me, and mobileme, stumped. The resulting pick list in the Mobileme Gallery widget has now become unsynced with the actual mobileme galleries online. So while I can update existing widgets on this page, I can't add a new one. A work around was found (see the last Red Phase gallery, which was put on the page in a conventional way - but lacks the features of the widget of course. Mobileme Chat referred me to Applecare Phone Support, which of course does not work in the middle of the Himalayas. Anyone know the underpinnings of that widget? Thx!

This is a problem that been going on for a while (since Snow Leopard I believe). I've not found a solution other than what you've done, link a photo to the MMe gallery page. You can link the photo to the individual photo page of the gallery rather than the thumbnail page. That would give you the same appearance as the widgets give you, i.e. use this link: http://gallery.me.com/studiosphoenix#100173/Altf4_Red01&bgcolor=black
By the way, the album covers gallery's link is broken. The only area of the image that works as a link are the two words Album Cover. Clicking anywhere else gives no results.

  • Undefined MobileMe Gallery Widget

When I add a gallery to my iWeb using the Gallery Widget it doesn't load the gallery. Annoyingly is simply adds a black box saying 'undefined'. The function was working ok last time I did this so no idea why it is not working now. Anyone got any ideas?? Big thanks PW

Are you able to see iPhoto and it's albums in the Media Browser in iWeb? If you have published MMe galleries in iPhoto you should be able to see something like the following:

  • IWeb and MobileMe Gallery

I am trying to upload pictures from the MobileMe Gallery.  I have albums published but when I move the MobileMe widget to the web page I am creating it reads "No albums or movies". Please help.

I've jumpstarted the MMe widget with the following 2 fixes before:
    Try this:
    quit iWeb
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.
Ahother method that worked one time was:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
HOWEVER, a way to embed your MMe gallery and not worry about fixes is to go online and get the URL of your MMe gallery and plug it into the following code in an HTML snippet:
    <script src="http://gallery.mac.com/g/flash/photowidget_iefix.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    writeObj("http://gallery.me.com/MobileMeName/XXXXXX", 226, 199);
    </script>
Thanks to Wyodor for the code.

  • I can't get MobileMe Gallery to stop trying to move pictures from it to Aperture. I never posted pictures to MobileMe Gallery. HELP

    MobileMe has been discontinued
Aperture will move albums you have published to Mobile Me Gallery into the Albums section of your library to preserve them.
If I chose OK it will say aperture is moving mobile me gallery and it takes forever but I've never posted pictures to that gallery.
    HELP

If you migrated from MobileMe to iCloud your Addressbook will now be synced with iCloud and not with MobileMe.
Make sure, the AppleID you are using with iCloud is the same you when upgrading from MobileMe to iCloud. Your iCloud account has to be enabled in the Addressbook and your contacts should appear in the iCloud accounts section.
To sync your Contacts, they have to be enabled in the iCloud preferences, like this:
But please, take your iCloud- Addressbook question to the "iCloud On my Mac" forum:  https://discussions.apple.com/community/icloud/icloud_on_my_mac
There you will find the better experts for syncing between Mac and iPhone.

  • MobileMe and RSS screen saver missing in Snow Leopard!

In Leopard, in Desktop & Screen Saver, under Pictures, There is a screen saver called MobileMe and RSS, which allowed you to subscribe to picture RSS feeds and would display them as a slideshow when the screen saver activated.
I found that screen saver option is no longer available in Snow Leopard. I thought I would just go to a Leopard machine and copy the screen saver file to Snow Leopard, but its not in the screen saver folder (Drive -> System -> Library -> Screen Savers).
Why did apple remove this functionality? Is there anyway to get it back?

Sorry, I get it now. My issue was similar but not the same as yours. I have never subscribed to picture-only RSS feeds so I guess I can't address your issue. As I said, I was trying to have other peoples' MM galleries show up in the list of screen savers, which I was finally able to do using my instructions (you don't need to belong to MobileMe to do this by the way, all you need is the username of a friend who does subscribe and has set up a MM gallery - for example, my username is "rbarline" in case you want to check out my "public slide show" gallery as a screen saver ... :~)
Now I am curious about picture-only RSS feeds and would like to try one as a screen saver. Can you send me a feed URL to try? Maybe there is a way after all?

  • Lost widgets after clean install of Snow Leopard

Does anyone know how I can restore my widgets (& the info on them, mostly sticky notes)? I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and I was able to pretty much restore everything manually from TIme Machine. I did go into "Users/Library/Widgets" and restore that, but it seems not to have worked, all I get are the 4 default widgtets.
Any ideas? Other than that the install went well.
    Thanks

Weird ... still no widgets, even after restoring those files ... sorry ...
I had about 10-12 sticky notes with semi-important info on them and it would be nice, but not critical, to have them back. I should have done a screen shot and saved that! I'm wondering if I must first create new, blank stickies first ... which would then take the info?? Seems odd, but who knows.
If you have another idea, that would be great.
Thanks for hangin' in there with me...

  • IWeb vs MobileMe gallery

    Greetings,
I am a pretty green user of iWeb. I used to post family pictures using the old .mac software, which was effective but clunky. I am now reposting material on MobileMe and I really really like how this works, and the syncing with iPhoto albums. Another great feature is the display on the internet, which optimizes the pictures, but offers a "Download" button if users want a full resolution copy of a pictures. HOWEVER, posting iPhoto albums on iWeb does not seem to offer this same function, or does it? If so, I can not find it. The albums are posted easily, and display nicely, but there is no "Download" option. Anyone out there can set me straight on this?
    Many thanks
    Dave B

That's correct. If you use the Photos page in iWeb and drag the photos into it you can set it up so visitors can download and set the file size for the download. You can also set it up so visitors can add comments to the photos.
You just create a photo page and drag the iPhoto album you want from the Media Browser into the photo area on the page like this

  • Sort MobileMe Gallery and Facebook Albums

How can I sort MobileMe and Facebook albums by date (or manually)?

    Hi Mark.
I had the same issue and, through trial and error, think I may have found the solution - at least for MobileMe (I haven't used the Facebook publishing yet).
If you log in to your MobileMe photo gallery web app at http://www.me.com/ then you get a list of your albums down the left side. You can drag each album up and down the list to order them.
(not sure if the next step is actually required or if you just need to wait a bit...)
Next, open up your iPhoto app and let it sync the new MobileMe album order.
Finally, go to your gallery page on the web at http://gallery.me.com/your_username and hopefully you should see the albums appear in the order you set.
If they still appear in the wrong order, try refreshing the gallery page, clearing your browser cache etc...
    Hope this works for you.
    C.

  • Iweb Photo Album vs MobileMe Gallery or...

... should I look for flickr or something?
Hi guys new mac user in every sense...the wife got her Macbook on December and I couldn't resist and got my mine three days ago.
Guys...I'm creating a website with iweb and although right now does not have a lot of pics, I know it will...so please guys:
    1. If I want the visitors to have a fast access (loading) to the albums...which is the best option? iweb Photo Album or the MobileMe Gallery widget?
I know that at the end all the pics will be loaded on/from the MobileMe server, but just wanted to check if one have proved being faster than the other.
    2. The other thing I was concern about was of course space..that's why I though about putting all the pics on flickr, photobucket...and then embed an album on iWeb...can I do that?
thanks guys and please if this has already been discussed please post a link...I did the search and nothing came up.

hey guys...I found this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10742043&#10742043 Aztian said that his photos load faster using iWeb Photo Albums...it would be nice to have more info...thanks!
