IWeb 09 + Snow Leopard = Character Spacing / Tracking Disaster!

I have a big problem. Upgraded to Snow Leopard, all went fine... but now much of the text in my iWeb 09 pages are all bunched on top of each other, where they looked fine before. This is primarily a problem with title text, and happens with all new text as well. It seems like at a standard size font, the letters are just a little too close together. But as you increase the size of the font... the letters do not get any more space between them, so the larger titles look like just a pile of letters on top of each other, and are completely and 100% unreadable.
I have tried using the "Character Spacing" slider in Inspector and it literally does nothing, I have tried using the "Loosen Tracking" option in the Format\Font menu and it similarly does nothing at all. I have tried switching fonts and have tried starting new text boxes, and nothing has any effect whatsoever.
I cannot update any of my sites until this gets resolved. Can anybody help?

Try quitting iWeb. deleting the preference file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, restarting your Mac, running Disk Utility to repair permissions and then relaunching the application.

  • Sounds like Snow Leopard is a major disaster

Reading all the reports about SL here on this forum and on other forums I get the idea that most people are having all sorts of problems with it. Overheating CPU's and all other kinds of weird behaviour. I received my SL in the the mail today but have decided to wait with the installation until there's a stable upgrade.
I'd rather keep on running nice and trouble free on Leopard 10.5.8

    I beg to differ.
I never upgraded an OS so fast with so few problems. In fact, the only problem I have is that I can't get a Canon MX860 printer to work over a network yet, it has to be connected via USB (all other printers are ok and work over the network).
The whole procedure took less than an hour per computer (obviously excluding the time necessary to do full backups).
I upgraded from xp to Vista in another life. The "upgrade" took me more than half a day. Many things did not work properly after the upgrade. It took me months to recover thereafter and the whole process was incredibly frustrating, not to mention the cost of changing some components and the inordinate amount of time wasted. I had been unhappy and tired of wasting my time with Windows for a long period and this incident was one of the key elements which prompted me to switch.

  • Snow Leopard Screws Up iWeb Fonts

Immediately after I installed Snow Leopard, I began having font spacing problems in iWeb. There's now a lot of space before each line of text that wasn't there before. Essentially, Snow Leopard is adding a bunch of "leading" to each line. HELP!!!!!

Steve ~ If you're publishing to MobileMe, MobileMe live chat support is now 24/7 — see this announcement. You can also let Apple know via this form:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
Another approach is to join the +Apple Developer Connection+ — the +ADC Online+ category is free, here:
...then you can use this to create a trackable problem report:
...And no, you don't need to be a "developer" to join — just an Apple user who wants to make sure Apple knows there's a bug and have the ability to track its resolution.

  • Trouble with iWeb and Snow Leopard?

I have a iMac (early 2007) Dual Core Intel Based, and have been using iWeb for a couple of years just fine.
Recently (a few months ago) I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and since then my computer freezes etc...
I've been getting the dreaded Grey Screen with the Apple Logo and churning gear at startup and the computer won't get passed that point.
I've tried booting from my Snow Leopard Disk and have run Disk Utility and Repair, and I have no errors.
What's odd is that if I try to open iWeb now and start using it for more then a couple of minutes the computer gets the dreaded spinning rainbow and freezes up, forcing me to shut down often.
Now, I am only able to start my computer early in the morning after it has been turned off at night.
    Any Reccomendations?
    Thanks in Advance...
    BJB

Assuming the actual install of Snow Leopard is OK, you could run Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) to see if there is any unusual activity when your Mac is idling.
If so, you can launch Console.app to see if you can see what it is that's causing it.
I had that problem on an old iMac last night where iWeb was sluggish and the ball was spinning.
It turned out that CrashReporter was hogging the CPU by continuously creating reports for an unidentified app, hidden in the System files, that was trying to launch. After tracking down and extermination it, all became peaceful again.

  • What happens to iweb-built site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3), and subsequently upgrade to 10.6.8 or even 10.7? Will fonts stay the same? Will layout change? Or anything else change? Thanks

What happens to iweb-build site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and subsequently update that to 10.6.8 or even to 10.7? Evidently iweb has been discontinued. I have version 3.0.3 of iweb now but understand that there's been an update for OS 10.6 so same question goes for this update.
Will fonts change? Will layout change? Will widgets still work? Links? Will Google Analytics PlugIn still work?
(Since MobileMe is disappearing, I now save iweb site to local folder on my computer, then upload it to GoDaddy using Cyberduck. I run Google Analytics plug in on folder before its uploaded.)
My computer, MacBook Pro came with iweb, which has been updated to 3.0.3. Since iweb is discontinued, will upgrade of operating system just ignore iweb so that iweb will run the same as before? Or will it wipe it out? Or change how it currently works (questions above).
    Thanks

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • Problems with iWeb 09 on Safari 4.04 on Snow Leopard 10.6.2

My iWeb 09 v. 3.0.1 website comes out funky, with fonts messed up on some pages, missing pictures, etc. Even on Firefox 1.5.0.12 same issues.
Yet, the same site on my old laptop with OSX 10.4.11 and Safari 4.0.3 runs fine. And runs fine on Firefox 1.5.0.12.
Are there known issues with iWeb 09 with Snow Leopard and Safari?
    Frustrating!
    Thanks

So you started from the normal Tiger system and inserted the SL disc, tried to install but it ejected the disc without an automatic restart?
If you do the installation that way, the system update is carried out while the restart is in progress before the internal HD is remounted (which it why it takes a long time to restart).
If that's failed, have you tried inserting the disc, immediately restarting and holding down the C key during startup?
If that boots you to the installer, you will need to ignore the install screen to begin with, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu in the top menu bar and erase Macintosh HD before continuing the installation.
What I'm guessing has happened is that the installation has written the system files to their temporary folder from where they would be used to replace the existing Tiger system during the restart. Something has prevented that replacement from happening, but when you now insert the disc, the presence of the temp files inhibits it from proceeding further.
Erasing the Mac HD will remove all of that and should allow a clean install.
However, it will also wipe everything else, so make sure you have a current backup before proceeding down that route.

  • Lost Links to MobileMe Gallery on iWeb after updating to Snow Leopard

I recently updated my OS to Snow Leopard. I appear to have lost all of my past iWeb links to my MobileMe Galleries. It is so frustrating. This is a lot of work from the past. All of the pictures still appear on Mobile Me Gallery but the iWeb site does not recognize them. The place where the pictures used to be now has a white box with text "Upload album or movie to MobileMe and then select it from this widget's menu." Why! When I try to use the MobileMe Gallery widget like I did in the past, it sees none of my galleries! Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? Thanks.
Here is what the page looks like now. You can see where the galleries used to be. --> http://web.mac.com/georgeparsons/TatnallRunPics/Home.html

Hi I just made one of my few visits to these forums because I had a problem kinda similar to yours. It was sending me nuts. Main indication of the problem was that when I went to add an album widgit it didn't show any of the albums I have in iphoto and no other fiddling back and forth republishing and the like fixed it. This was after working properly earlier in the day. I have just started to build a new website with iweb.
I then updated to the latest version of iweb, that is 3.0.1, and yes you guessed it, now its working fine. So just in case i thought i would mention what worked for me tho i see others with different fixes to the same problem. So this worked on my 2.4 MBP running 10.5.6 and iweb 3.0.1.
    Good luck

  • IWeb '09 / Mobileme Gallery Widget / No Albums or Movies / Snow Leopard

This is my first time trying to use the Mobileme Gallery Widget in iWeb '09 and all I can get it to do is tell me "No Albums or Movies". I have non password / no hidden galleries published via iPhoto '09 and iMovie '09. I even tried publishing via me.com. Nothing. It publishes my site to mobileme just fine I just upgraded to Snow Leopard this afternoon if that makes any difference. I had never tried this feature before today so I can't say if it worked prior to the upgrade or not. I do use a personal domain and iWeb does see this and can publish the site to it but all the site has is my test blank page and an blank mobileme widget in it. Any ideas?

    Old Toad wrote:
I'd say Snow Leopard brought it on.
Thanks. I'll try avoiding those features until there's an update to SL and/or iWeb'09. Happily iWeb09 with SL deals fine with my website in its current rather featureless configuration so I'll keep it simple for now

  • IWEB publishing error on Snow Leopard

Help please. I've been using iWeb for years now - very successfully. Since installing Snow leopard though, I cannot publish web pages with photo's on them - ANY PHOTO. Photo gallery collections etc loads perfectly. The iWEB application just quit on me.

  • Lost pictures in iWeb after migration to Snow Leopard

    Dear Forum,
I recently upgraded my MacBook by inserting 4 GB RAM, a 500 Gb harddisc and a brand new snow leopard. Before I did this, I made a full time machine backup, so I would be able to get back to my initial state asap. This proved to have worked for everything, except for iWeb as I discovered yesterday evening:
All my sites and pages are still there, and even the pages with published videos are still intact, but none of the pictures (and this is infact the main content of my web page) do show...
All pictures are still in my iPhoto library so i did not expect this. Also all pages are now labeled as 'changed' so my next publishing routine would take forever (given the fact that I get all my pictures back) because I publish our Kindergarten pictures since 2005 through this site.
Any suggestions? Where does iWeb store the information about where to find those pictures?
Any help would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!
    Petra

    Dear Old Toad,
I tried the first part of your suggestions, but no luck there. But doing so I suddenly thought of the fact that the situation has one other quite important issue I did not think of before:
My iPhote library and all the pictures used to be on a volume that was once the internal hard drive of my iMac that died two years ago. Since than I used this hard drive as an external drive for my MaBook (keeping the original user/pictures/ structure it always had.
After upgrading my MacBook I finally had enough room to store all material on the internal hard drive.
So I copied the content of my external Picture folder to the Picture folder of my hard drive. I use the same user name and after disconnecting the external drive I renamed the internal hard drive to the same name as the external and before the iMac used to have (iMac HD). After launching iPhoto all pictures where there and could be found in the finder by iPhoto so everything was fine so far. The same thing worked for iTunes. Only iWeb proves to have a problem. Do you still think the last part of your suggestions could work?
I tried reconnecting the original external disc, and if I do that, all pictures are visible as they used to be. The iPhoto library available in the media area is still the one from the internal hard drive though.
So, now you have the whole picture... any suggestions? Would there be a way to kind of import all pictures from the external drive into the iWeb file? I do not understand why some pictures (for the events and the blog pages with a video file on it) are stored within the package and others (all the picture pages) are not...
Thanks for any kind of advice!
    Petra

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • Flash CS4 line spacing in Snow Leopard

I've just switched over to Mac OS 10.6 and found that the line spacing has changed in my files. Basically it seems to have increased the line spacing so the static text fields take up more space. I've updated Flash and I'm now on 10.6.1 but the problem remains. It doesn't do this on 10.5.8 or in InDesign and SL (but it does do a similar thing in Quark 7.5). It doesn't seem to matter what font it is either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hey FlipMacoy,
Don't do that, save your time!
There was a problem with Postscript 1 typefaces and Snow Leopard (not confined to Flash, but also affected other apps including Quark 7), but the new SL update (think it came out last week) has fixed those issues.
You just need to run Software Update and get the latest version of SL, and then everything should go back to normal.
I've only tried two files, but they appear as I would expect them to.
    Good luck.

iWeb is supported in Mountain Lion. That said you need not upgrade to ML to support new iPhone 5. What OS are you using? All you need is iTunes 11.
