IWeb '09 weirdness

I'm having two issue with the new iWeb:
1) My pages are utilizing a bold font (usually for just one sentence) but when I publish, all the text is bold. It worked correctly/as it should before in the '06 version previously.
2) I'm getting this odd 'contact' looking icon everywhere that's a link (see image attached) and I can't turn it off; it's not controlled in the View menu. Also, when I hit save... these icons double (see attached image 2), further obscuring the text/links!
image 1: http://i42.tinypic.com/zx3al4.png
image 2: http://i41.tinypic.com/o08mxx.png
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...

Those icons in iWeb indicate that those text boxes will be converted to a png file when published:
Regarding the bold text: what is the font you're using? Can you provide the URL to the site so we can examine first hand?

  • IWeb Publishing weird boxes

When I publish my iweb site, I am getting weird boxes on each page. They do not show up in iWeb, but do show up after published on Firefox, Safari, and IE. I have tried publishing my iweb site with both the built in FTP client and Cyberduck and have the same issue with both. The issue is on all the pages, but pictures mask it on some. Please take a look at my site.

    Any thoughts?

Do a Command A in iWeb to Show All. Drag your objects aside to see what's lying underneath.
Also note that almost all your text has been converted to an image due to adding the drop shadow. This means that the SEO spiders cannot crawl and index this text.
Use web-safe fonts and turn on the Text Imaging Indicator in iWeb preferences.

  • IWeb Creates weird address and folder when uploading site

I am building a site for my company (www.jgpinc.com). I have a couple of questions. First of all, when I upload the site and go to it, it creates a new directory and the address goes from www.jgpinc.com to www.jgpinc.com/www.jgpinc.com/home.html. Why is iWeb creating a new subdirectory called www.jgpinc.com? Secondly, in the header, our company name shows up as JAMes g. palmer appraisals, inc. How do I correct the capitalization problem?
    Thanks!!
    G-

Why is iWeb creating a new subdirectory called www.jgpinc.com?
Because you named your site inside iWeb www.jgpinc.com. Change that to "jgp" or whatever and republish.
Complete iWeb sites always show the site name in the browser address bar. Of course the url you give to people is still just www.domain.com. iWeb's ftp does not have an option to upload incomplete sites. If you want to get rid of the site name, you must manually change the site structure either before or after uploading. If you do that, any RSS subscribe links will not work. Another option is to forward www.domain.com to www.domain.com/sitename, if your host allows that.

  • URL name appears twice after upload???

Hoping someone can help with a small issue using iWeb. Whenever I upload / updated my bands web site using the publish to FTP server within iWeb a weird thing occurs. The URL had the domain name twice as in "thelostwillfollow.com/thelostwillfollow.com/Home.html" instead of "www.thelostwillfollow.com/Home.html". I do have the most current version of iWeb and I'm pretty sure I'm filling out the fields correctly. I've actually tried filling in the fields on the upload screen several ways to see if it corrects the issue and it hasn't.
Now, this can be corrected by using a third party FTP to log in and make some changes to the folders, but I shouldn't have to do this.
Can anyone please assist me with troubleshooting this issue. I have attached two screen shots so you can see whtat I mean and how I have the FTP screen filled out.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.
    Kindest regards,
    -Ken

That's because you named your site the same as your domain.name.  The standard URL format is:
    http://domain_name/site_name/page_name.html
If you don't want the site name to be the same as the domain name change the site name in iWeb.
    To remove the site name from the URL address do the following;
publish your site to a folder on your hard drive.
using a 3rd party FTP client like the free Cyberduck select just the contents of your site folder.
upload those contents to the public_html or root folder of your account on the server.
This will give the following in the URL window for each page of you site:
    http://www.domain_name.com/page_name.html

  • Using iWeb to publish my mobileme photo gallery -really weird bugs help plz

I have a really weird problem and have tried searching the forums already with no luck.
I'm using iWeb09 to put mobileme photo album on my website. When I initially add the widget onto my page, the widgets will show a "preview" of what pictures are in the gallery if you hover your mouse over it. Later during the day, I'm not sure if I did anything to mess it up but that "preview" is no longer there. It's just a black box. It still works however if you click on it because it takes you to the mobile gallery.
The only way for me to fix it was to delete the mobile me album and create a new one. Then re-add the widget onto my iWeb.
This has happened twice to me already and I cannot figure out why it happens. I'm sorry if my description is vague. Please help.

There is no point in re-installing iWeb, because after you have published it really is not an iWeb problem - if there is something not working on uploading the files, then it is really nothing to do with iWeb after html pages have been created.
If you are using Fetch to upload, then you have obviously published your site to a local folder? If so, are the photos there when you look at your local site? If they are there when you publish to a local site, then it is an error in uploading and if photos do not show, it means that some things are not being uploaded to your server correctly.
Have you tried using Cyberduck instead of Fetch? Cyberduck or Transmit are two of the better ftp programmes to try.

  • Flash video weird look on iWeb

It's new , when i open my project iWeb 8 version 2.03 all my Flash movie look Weird. I use "Widjet and Fragment HTML" put the code inside the result very strange? The movie go like "flash faster" on, off on off on off like disco dance light faster. When i go to my web site with a last Safari 3.04 version same think?
Only "Elf" video give me just a half video, but with firefox works very good??
    Michel

    Hi!
I am trying really hard to do what you are trying to get rid of!
I am new to iWeb and know very little about what coding is, but am trying to get this to happen...
    1) have "welcome" page automatically play a very short 2 or 3 second full screen video (heavily compressed I guess?)
    2) As soon as the video ends, the actual, static, welcome screen opens / shows itself.
    That's it!
But I have no idea as to how to make it happen. Can I copy and paste the code you have in your message? I would really, really appreciate any and all help you can offer.
    Thanks!

  • IWeb site in Firefox displays weird!

I've been designing a website for the academy at my church, I've got the site up and running and it looks great on mobile devices and safari.  I went under it in FireFox, and every textbox/shape/item has a shadow around the entire box and completely messes up the look I am going for.  Any suggestions as to how to make it behave in FireFox?
I am using FireFox for Mac, version 9.0.1 and iWeb version 3.0.4.
    Here's the website:
    www.granitechristianacademy.org
    Thanks for your help!

That's been a problem with iWeb and Firefox for a while now with drop shadows and reflections. There's a way to avoid that by following the instructions in this tutorial: 07 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single Image File.
It also reduces the number of files needed to load for the page thus speeding up the loading of the page in browsers.
I noticed that on the Doctrine page all you text has drop shadows.  This converted the text box to an image file and made it unavailable to search engines for ranking and listing your site in searches.
Also each page other than the home page has the graphic file, i.e. News, Academics, etc. is overlapping part of the navbar making the buttons only partically active. Reduce the height of the graphic file so that it doesn't overlap the navbar:

  • Weird access problems to published iWeb Travel Blog (iWeb 08)

I have created a weekly Travel Blog with text pages and Photo pages (now on Wk 6) on MobileMe. The Blog is accessible by password & user name. Since Week 5 some regulars have not been able to access the pictures from the "Our Pix" at the top of the page: they tell me they are repeatedly being asked for password even after they're already on the text pages of the site. I've tried republishing the whole blog again to MobileMe: no luck for the same people. I created a Gallery from iPhoto with a separate passwd & user name: works for some, but not for others.
There seems to be no common denominator in who can and who can't access my pages: from Mac users to PC-users; from newbies to experts on both platforms: there seems to be no rhyme nor reason.
    Any suggestions?

    These Apple docs may help:
_iWeb ’08: Published web pages repeatedly require a password when using Safari_
_MobileMe: Repeatedly prompted for user name and password of locked Gallery albums_
After re-publishing from iWeb, you and your viewers could try clearing the browser's cache and then visiting your site again. In Safari, click on the Safari menu and choose +Empty Cache...+

  • Hyperlink weirdness in iWeb 1.1.2

I'm having a strange issue (well, at least I think it is) and am hoping someone might know what I'm doing wrong or why it won't work.
On my main/home page, my background image is one jpeg consisting of 9 squares of art (3 across x 3 rows). Before, I had the entire background image as a hyperlink and that worked fine but it forced the viewing to only be able to click on one thing. What I wanted to do was make each individual square a link to go to one of the nine other pages. So, I made a box in the SHAPES tool, using no fill and no border and clicked enable as hyperlink and referred to the appropriate iWeb page. Sound good in theory... but when I publish the page, there are no links — none of the 9 boxes acts as a link at all and I can't figure it out!
I initially thought that maybe the links were buried (behind the background jpeg) so I used the FORWARD button to make sure all the clear overlay boxes were on top of the background image and for good measure, I pushed the background image backward. But still no luck! Any thoughts or suggestions?
One unrelated matter, when renaming a page or site in iWeb, when it's published the URL is full of '%20%' everywhere there's a space. Anyone know if this is corrected in iWeb '08 or '09???

Yes, it's corrected. The following is from the iWeb '08 Help viewer:
Browsers convert spaces in page names to “%20.” To avoid these symbols, iWeb places an underscore when the page name or site name includes a space.
You should also avoid non-Roman characters; many get converted to numbers when you publish.

  • IWeb 3.03 and Firefox 4 weird boxes around images

Just built a small site (keepourcityclean (dot) org) but for some reason it looks good on Safari but not on Firefox. There are strange boxes and
lines around images that are obviously indicative of the formatting that iWeb uses, but why doesn't it work across all browsers? Is there a fix?

Not all browsers display a site the same because they implement web standards differently.  Tried to log onto you site but it wouldn't load.  Just kept the loading wheel going and going and going.
However, this tutorial might be of some help: #7 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single JPG Image.  It certainly will help in making sites more compatible with Internet Explorer and older versions of Firefox.
Since the http://keepourcityclean.org/Home.html won't load maybe you could take screenshots of the boxes in Firefox and post them in a reply.

  • Weird iWeb problem with nav buttons....

Hi all. New to this and a complete idiot. The club which I am the Prez of needed a web site, and as no one else volunteered, I ended up doing it. Everything seemed to go fine for a while until I started modifying the original site....then I started getting weird things happening. Many of them I have figured out but the last one is beyond me. The problem is with the text in the nav buttons at the top of the pages. On the first page all the navigational buttons are fine, but on all the other pages the button that takes you back to the home page has text I never put in, and it does not appear in it's entirety. Can anyone provide any help as to how I can fix this. The URL is:
    www.nocasa-ft.com

Indeed, the problem is with the cache. I cleared the cache and all now comes up as it is supposed to. Thanks so much for your suggestion. I was rather disappointed because it seemed the problem was with Safari, and I kind of like that browser. I didn't want to have to use something else.
    Thanks again.

  • IWeb weird publish problem

So I've been using iWeb for about 2 weeks now. I installed in in my G3 iBook (via Pacifist, I know, I know, but I bought it without reading that I needed a G4 or higher.. sigh my poor ol' iBook).. any way - iPhoto and iWeb work Awesome. I photo is much faster and everything seems to work fine.
iWeb is a little slugish but hey, it works.
So when I uploaded my page went all wackey - check it out at

Run your pointer over the links at the top.
I think I just need to re-upload (which will take almost a 30minutes to and hour) but it's kinda crazy.

Looks fine to me. Are you sure you aren't just running into a caching problem? Try clearing your cache and reloading the page.

  • Weird web address for my blog in iweb

I use iWeb to create my website with the .mac subscription. I don't understand how it creates the domain or web address or whatever you wanna call it. This isn't my real web address, but for example my website is http://web.mac.com/jeffbrown27/JB. I added a new blog which I called My Blog as a tab on that site. For some reason it duplicates that name twice in the address. To get to my blog it would be http://web.mac.com/jeffbrown27/JB/MyBlog/MyBlog.html
Am I doing something wrong? Why does it put My_Blog twice in there?

    Hi jbrown,
The first My_Blog is actually a folder. The second My_Blog.html is the main blog page in that folder. All your blog entries will be put in the folder My_Blog.

  • Iweb 2.0.3 website generated not workinf at all for firefox or IE...

I have made a very simple site dropping iphoto pictures, and saved it onto a file. When I call the index.html file from IE (whatever the version) or firefox, no pictures, no navigation, just some text comes. (just Safari on PC works fine). Using the java console, I can see lots of error messages that seem to make this site hangover. The messages are :

the error is located at line 1044 : var urlParts=urlString.match(/^ at this sign.
Same error within navbar.js, error at line 25: text=text.replace(/\ at this sign

(I am giving the lines, because I believe iWeb generates always the same kind of code, and line numbering).

I hace tried with less pictures (I am showing 1000), with no results, so it should not come from the amount of data, more onthe iWeb side.
I have no clue on html code writing, and I am not doing weird things (just showing pictures and using iWeb because the slideshow is nice (Safari). I am a bit puzzled by those errors on a very simple site (does Apple deliver tested software - It was used to, but I already had lots of problems installing the last OSX version, and now the iLife part of it is also behaving like another software/OS provider. I would not like both companies to look laike (that's why I still choose Apple...)
What should I do to make it work ? (please, if you have easy workarounds, not a tricky download of executables to be found in strange places !...) I just want to use iWeb in its simplest form, and I am surprised to be quite alone in this trouble (I have read that Internet Explorer was really bad at understanding iWeb pages, but in this case even Firefox collapses. Unfortunately the webbrowser standard is still IE or firefox (even if I like Safari, I have to comply with what is the most used in this (PC... ;-( ) world.)
Thanks alot if anyone can help, (or should I find iWeb06 : some discussions forums say it is... better than 08... and then where ?) Sorry for being so long, but details may be important)

Hi again (not been very active on the subject for some time).
I have found another thread in here that seems linked to my problem: I ain't got any number, but
you may find it looking at "IE crashing Iweb 08 blocking can be solved using Prototype 1.1.0" by balord.
It tells me : the "faulty" part is located in Iwebsite.js. It is filled by something called Prototype1.0.0
in iWeb 08, and apparently a solution could be to use a Prototype1.1.0, but up to now the description on how to fix it (changing lines within this .js) is not very clear to me. The link in there indicates a .js file, but it is far uncomprehensible, and I don't know which lines to remove, to change,...
I also tried Maestro (mentioned in the thread, but this does nothing at all (nothing !) : it only wipes out comments from the html code, and reduces images size (good enough to speed up loading, but not to clean garbage html, or js. I have found some websites that apprently are exactly the same as mine, but working (one from a model called sam nelemans... ok there should be others, but this one is the plain use of iWeb as I intended to do ... with less nude pictures !) even with IE. I shall be trying to dump her .js file, but I have to know how to do this (maybe using the activity window within Safari, not sure).
Another point : IE5 on Mac is also stuck. and if I removed the Iwebsite.js line in my html code, then even Safari is blocked as is IE. Probably it indicates that this is really the place where the bug (for me this is one) is located.
I'll try to keep you aware of progress if any. No news from Apple side (bug posted). now news, bad news...
